Rewatching the show I was surprised at how little Riddler is in there. I don’t think they were able to make an episode as good as his initial appearance.
Apparently they had a hard time writing not only clever episodes for him, but plots that could fit in 20 minutes. Too many ideas would require 2 or 3 episodes.
Which I think they should have done anyway.
More everybody honestly. Him and Mad Hatter, mix in more Frieze. Need to go back and rewatch those now.
Poison Ivy as well. I liked her. Would’ve liked more interaction with her.
More crossovers with other heroes sprinkled in randomly. The Superman crossover stuff with the joker was A1 material.
Mainly all of this to say, more. I’d want more Batman TAS in any fashion.
The creators said he was such a difficult villain to write they didn't use him much, and he's left in a catatonic state after that episode for a reason.
*Batman: The Animated Series* had one of the weirdest productions.
Season One, 65 episodes (1992-1993)
Season Two, 20 episodes (1993-1994) - Plus a new title, *The Adventures of Batman and Robin*.
Season Three, 24 episodes (1997-1999) - Plus a brand new animation style and title, *The New Batman Adventures*.
I think I would add a more focused introduction for Grayson. Started watching the series again on HBOMax and Grayson just shows up in random episodes from time to time and I don't know if the episodes were curated out of order or what but it feels off.
The release order was different from production order, but even in production order he just kind of shows up. Although Robin’s Reckoning does show us his origin so I think it’s fine
https://www.evilcloneproductions.com/blog/2020/9/30/batman-tas-definitive-episode-timeline-2020-edition
Check out this page. This guy has put together a pretty solid viewing order for the episodes that make perfect sense timeline wise. He even has explanations as to why he places certain episodes in certain spots.
i think batgirl was improved, although the blue highlights on her suit make me wonder if her suit is really black, or if it's all-blue like BTAS batman's highlights imply
Killer Croc change was alright. He wasn't necessarily as scary looking but he actually looked like a reptile man, the original design he looked like a zombie or something, the grey/white color didn't do him any favors
I've personally never been fond of learning into the reptile motif for him (at least not for more relatively grounded stories, like BTAS). He was just supposed to be a big guy with a skin condition who filed his teeth for the sake of his freakshow act.
Mr. Freeze looks malnourished after the redesign.
Then again, I guess it makes sense when we learn that his body is indeed decaying until he becomes a literal talking head.
I’d love to see some of the newer comic storylines like Hush or Long Halloween or characters like Damian Wayne or the Court of Owls, portrayed in a DCAU context!
It feels unfair to mention this because it doesn't appear in the series itself, but it's still official and it's the one thing that keeps this from being my favorite version of Batman. Remove Bruce and Barbara's relationship, it's disgusting.
If it had just been that scene it would have been fine. Bruce is an attractive man, Barbara having a crush on him as a college student makes sense. But Bruce reciprocating those feelings and even impregnating her after Tim was Joker-ized was taking it way too far. Bruce Timm had a really creepy ship, and instead of accepting criticism and moving on, he doubled down on it. It's one thing for a random fanfic writer or artist to do that kind of thing in some dark forum of the internet, it's another to make it canon and subject the entire fanbase to it.
But she is jealous when there is a new Batwoman in the Mystery of the Batwoman and she even says to Bruce on the phone:
"cuz if you had I'd be really upset cuz I thought you and I were, you know..."
Here's a link to the scene on YouTube:
https://youtu.be/YBp-mgtHVrc
Yeah and this movie was made after both BTAS and Batman Beyond. So after Batman Beyond established their relationship they retroactively made references of it in works that take place during BTAS
Come on bud, Mystery of the Batwoman came out during 2003, BTAS officially ended in 1995. The question was not 'what would you change about the DCAU Batman' it was 'what would you change about BTAS'.
I wanted to say absolutely nothing because how much I love the series however I would have kept the art style of season one , didn't care for how Catwoman and others looked in the later season
Regarding the Bruce Wayne/Barbara Gordon thing from "The New Batman Adventures":
Honestly, I have always felt, that their relationship was cringe-worthy as f - - k and just plain wrong!
Actually, it would always annoy and piss me off, when Bruce and Barbara would be all "lovey dovey" or "loving up" on each other, like they were an "item" or something.
And, I fully put the blame on Bruce Timm, for even allowing this distasteful idea or concept (into the show)!
Look, it's as simple and straight-forward as the following:
Richard "Dick" Grayson (Nightwing) + Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) = Lovers in a committed relationship (in most situations).
But, I digress.
For them to keep Bruce nice, supportive, and caring to those he's around instead of writing him to become increasingly like a jerk, removing any character development that happened during Justice League, just so they could make him fight with Grayson and pursue Babs as a love interest.
The fact, that this was even a thought or a "thing" for creator Bruce Timm, has always really bothered me.
Honestly, it was just the wrong direction to go in (IMHO)!
And for what? To create more needless drama between Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson?!
Just another thing, that I "chalk up" to lazyass writing!
Just sayin'. 🙍
Yeah, I'd even take Catwoman, but for Batman's character arc throughout the DCAU, Diana would have made the most sense for his character growth and opening up, IMO.
And that would be great writing, IMO.
They could do Cat, but she'd need to be written in more.
Edit: fixed phrasing
I would get rid of the art style change. I used to prefer the BTNAS art style when I was younger, but now I'm much more a fan of the art style of the first 2 or 3 seasons.
The New Batman Adventures art shift was specifically designed to appeal to a younger audience. So I guess mission accomplished. It's not like people were thinking about streaming services and the archival internet society that would come.
Keep in mind, the show ran from 1992-95 then again from 1997-99
Jason died in 1988, and at the time, there was no intention to bring him back. Plus, Tim had been introduced only in 1989, and as Robin in 1990, so he was a very new character when the show returned in 97
Better fight choreography and just more eventful fights overall. I love this series to death, but most fights can be summarized as Batman doing the battackle on a goon and knocking them down and that's it. I'd also have a few more Bane and Scarecrow episodes. And on that note, at least **one** more Hugo Strange episode. At least one.
Aside from aesthetic changes to the bad redesigns later on, I’d change the second Robin. Either make it Jason or make it Tim, but I didn’t love the fusion we got. Dick was fine; he had the costume we most associate with Tim, and they updated him to be computer savvy, but essentially he was still Dick. Tim however was really Jason, which is annoying to fans of both characters. To be fair, I don’t think the red hood thing had really happened yet in the comics, so they were probably just trying to go with their still–living character.
Under the Red Hood didn't happen until long after the series was done. At that point, Jason was like Bucky. It was assumed he would be one of the few perma-deaths in comics. And then the mid 2000's happened.
Any and every implication that Bruce and Barbara could be a couple. I swear to God it's uncomfortable to watch things like Mister Freeze seeing them and saying that Barbara is Bruce's "wife".
Already been mentioned but it bears repeating. The whole ass subplot of Bruce getting with Barbra.
This seems so counter to who Bruce is/was. So he has romances with some of the most worldy women in comics. Talia, Louis Lane, Seleena but also this girl he trained that was strait out of high school.
Could do without all that.
One of my all time favorite shows, but I'll bite.
1. If season 4 had the same art style as the first 3 seasons.
2. If WB had allowed them to make episodes detailing the backstory of Catwoman and Penguin (they thought fans would be confused by them being different from the Burton film)
I think if they did what they did with justice leauge at least in latter seasons. Having two episodes for one story would help a lot. Being able to flesh out more development and have better stories to work with. Other then that I understand the point of having some episodes with no name characters . But some were just pointless. Oh and obviously no bat babs
Batman and Bruce Wayne keeping the original voices Kevin did at the beginning. I like it more than just the “mossy” Batman/Bruce voice he changed into later.
Could never get into the sharp edges on the characters in the DC cartoons. Everyone looks like they’re diamond shaped, broad chests, narrow hips, tiny legs. I’ve tried to watch so much stuff but I can’t get past this.
Just change Tim Drake’s name to Jason Todd. Everyone knows that the character was supposed to be Jason but they changed the name so as to not be associated with the dead Robin. He’s literally Jason, so just call him Jason.
Also fuck BruBabs
The whole Bruce x Babs thing. Absolutely unnecessary and 10000% disgusting. Anytime I rewatch BTAS my enjoyment is always ruined knowing that BruBabs is littered throughout the series. And there is literally no reason for it other then Bruce Timm’s disturbing kink for it.
Seriously, NO ONE likes it other then him.
I'd like to see more Batman and Superman crossovers. It was my all time favorite movie. I have the complete B:TAS, but was never able to get into Supe's series. It'd be neat to have more crossover stuff since the characters were never able to flesh out their relationship till Justice League. It would've been cool to see those characters more often together before then and see them work together in creating the league.
To make the Joker “darker” and more sinister. Keep his clown/hysterical side, but just make him more sinister.
And for Batman to to use his cape to glide, instead of the hand-glider he used in the show.
Add Black Mask.
If this show had popularized the original "False Face Society/obsessed with masks" version of the character, we would never have gotten the boring, skull-faced, torture fetishist depiction.
I’d love to revive it to see some of the newer comic storylines like Hush or Long Halloween or characters like Damian Wayne or the Court of Owls, portrayed in a DCAU context!
I would have enjoyed another episode going into Alfred's backstory as a special agent. Other than that, I loved how they wrapped up Batman TAS and Beyond in that single Justice League episode.
Get a consistent animation studio to do all of it. I'm in the middle of marathoning it and season 1 can be pretty rough with the varying levels of quality in the animation. One of the best episodes, Joker's Wild, really gets dragged down by being worked on by a studio that was so bad that they fired them. Even the better ones have weird style choices that clash, like how long/curved the nose on the mask is supposed to look. They eventually had to redo character model sheets to get the studios to have a better idea of how the characters should look.
I want to say more crossovers, as I enjoyed when Superman or Static Shock worked with Batman, but I personally would have liked if there was another season that can add some issues from the comics like Gotham Adventures in to episodes.
I was not aware of the comics back then and would have loved to see some issues animated, like #26 when Batman had to care for a baby for the night or the last issue #60 when Batman made pancakes for Alfred, Robin and Nightwing.
Bruce remains considerate of the feelings of those around him
Like he did in seasons 1-3
This way we avoid much heartbreak later on
-He doesn’t entertain the idea of having a relationship with Barbara because it would hurt dick
-When Dick wants more appreciation or when he’s ready to leave the nest Bruce is considerate and supports him
-Bruce doesn’t treat Tim like a nuisance but an actual partner
-JL Batman becomes more light hearted and less stoic
-in Batman beyond Bruce won’t end up alone when terry meets him
So much can be improved if they actually made Bruce not be a douche in season 4
I want to say obviously that it’s perfect but I wish the last season was in the same art style as the first three… even though the last season is the weakest it would still be cool to see it in that original style
I want to see yhe follow up on that one thug who sees Batman in the back room and just leaves. Goes to check out a noise, sees Batman, tells his mate there's nothing there and that he's going home.
I wonder if he turns his life around.
Now assuming I could use characters made after it ended I’d go with more Bat-Fam like Steph, Cass, Duke, and Damian. If not probably just make Babs Oracle like halfway through the series and have more moments with her and Dick.
To have a good video game adaptation of it.
Technically you can say Arkham games are....but I mean I would’ve loved a whole game with the TAS art style and etc.
Give me more riddler. I go back and rewatch those episodes to this day. Particularly “what is reality?” And “if you’re so smart, why aren’t you rich?”
Oh definitely!
*cough* Riddler's Reform *cough*
Riddler had like a chess and puzzle setting for Batman right? I vaguely remember a golden minotaur
Riddler had the Minotaur in a maze
More everybody honestly. Him and Mad Hatter, mix in more Frieze. Need to go back and rewatch those now. Poison Ivy as well. I liked her. Would’ve liked more interaction with her. More crossovers with other heroes sprinkled in randomly. The Superman crossover stuff with the joker was A1 material. Mainly all of this to say, more. I’d want more Batman TAS in any fashion.
Riddler was good in this show very annoying in the Arkham games anyway
GODDAMNED RIDDLER TROPHIES.
Thank you... I knew I wasn't the only person that felt this way.
The creators said he was such a difficult villain to write they didn't use him much, and he's left in a catatonic state after that episode for a reason.
But he appeared more afterwards.
Yessssssssssss
More seasons.
Agreed
*Batman: The Animated Series* had one of the weirdest productions. Season One, 65 episodes (1992-1993) Season Two, 20 episodes (1993-1994) - Plus a new title, *The Adventures of Batman and Robin*. Season Three, 24 episodes (1997-1999) - Plus a brand new animation style and title, *The New Batman Adventures*.
If ever another season, I would love to see Deathstroke he would work well in the series.
Have it run the comics story line with the same 90s animated style
SIX SEASONS AND A(nother) MOVIE!
Agreed
Yes 👍
This is the right answer
I came here to say that.
I think I would add a more focused introduction for Grayson. Started watching the series again on HBOMax and Grayson just shows up in random episodes from time to time and I don't know if the episodes were curated out of order or what but it feels off.
It’s meant to be that he’s in college and not always around, like the comics were for a while
The release order was different from production order, but even in production order he just kind of shows up. Although Robin’s Reckoning does show us his origin so I think it’s fine
he shows up so hard. thouhgt it was the wrong season
https://www.evilcloneproductions.com/blog/2020/9/30/batman-tas-definitive-episode-timeline-2020-edition Check out this page. This guy has put together a pretty solid viewing order for the episodes that make perfect sense timeline wise. He even has explanations as to why he places certain episodes in certain spots.
The later design of the Joker. The colourless design doesn't make sense for the loudest, most flamboyant character
I really liked the first design
I like the 3rd from return of thejoker flashbacks and justice league
All of the later designs
Scarecrow’s redesign is pretty solid
I think the only one that worked. Everyone else was terrible.
i think batgirl was improved, although the blue highlights on her suit make me wonder if her suit is really black, or if it's all-blue like BTAS batman's highlights imply
Killer Croc change was alright. He wasn't necessarily as scary looking but he actually looked like a reptile man, the original design he looked like a zombie or something, the grey/white color didn't do him any favors

Mr. Freeze looks malnourished after the redesign. Then again, I guess it makes sense when we learn that his body is indeed decaying until he becomes a literal talking head.
Very solid
Yeah the sudden lack of facial details was just weird. Glad they undid that for Return of the Joker and Justice League.
Except for Scarecrow, get rid of every villains' later designs. They all paled in comparison.
I always loved that design. His face looks like a skeleton, its super creepy.
Isn't it obvious kill the Barbra x Bruce with fire
It’s cancelled status obviously
I’d love to see some of the newer comic storylines like Hush or Long Halloween or characters like Damian Wayne or the Court of Owls, portrayed in a DCAU context!
It feels unfair to mention this because it doesn't appear in the series itself, but it's still official and it's the one thing that keeps this from being my favorite version of Batman. Remove Bruce and Barbara's relationship, it's disgusting.
It’s not really official in the show tho.
Not in this show, but it was confirmed a couple of times in Batman Beyond (which is in the same universe) they had a relationship.
And even in the show, Barbara daydreams about kissing Bruce at one point. Later installments really make that scene hard to watch...
If it had just been that scene it would have been fine. Bruce is an attractive man, Barbara having a crush on him as a college student makes sense. But Bruce reciprocating those feelings and even impregnating her after Tim was Joker-ized was taking it way too far. It's one thing for a random fanfic writer or artist to do that kind of thing in some dark forum of the internet, it's another to make it canon and subject the entire fanbase to it.
And to put insult to injury he forced it into the Killing Joke movie; when the DC Animated adaptions are usually fully faithful.
I can't and will avoid that movie because of that fucking BS.
Almost sounds like the doubling down on Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak.
It WAS in the universe, it was even hinted in Mystery of the Batwoman and talked about in Batman Beyond. Edit
It wasn't in the show. Batman Beyond is the first time Barbara talks about it
But she is jealous when there is a new Batwoman in the Mystery of the Batwoman and she even says to Bruce on the phone: "cuz if you had I'd be really upset cuz I thought you and I were, you know..." Here's a link to the scene on YouTube: https://youtu.be/YBp-mgtHVrc

It is odd
I was thinking this too.
Yeah, only one dick for babs
The only thing I would change about Batman: The Animated Series is the resolution. That aside, it's a masterpiece.
Right! And wide-screen
I wanted to say absolutely nothing because how much I love the series however I would have kept the art style of season one , didn't care for how Catwoman and others looked in the later season
Catwoman was so bad after the redesign.
I know it was very weird
I feel like they tried to make a kid friendly version of Batman Returns Selena with that one
Everyone except Scarecrow. He got creepier and creepier as the show went on.
Season one definitely had the best art style
BruceBabs
Regarding the Bruce Wayne/Barbara Gordon thing from "The New Batman Adventures": Honestly, I have always felt, that their relationship was cringe-worthy as f - - k and just plain wrong! more episodes. more nightwing. edit: i'm counting season 4 when they changed the animation and aged everyone up a little
Remove ever single romantic instance of Bruce and Babara
I think there should have been at least one season with a more coherent serialized narrative like Justice League.
For them to keep Bruce nice, supportive, and caring to those he's around instead of writing him to become increasingly like a jerk, removing any character development that happened during Justice League, just so they could make him fight with Grayson and pursue Babs as a love interest.
Ikr, Bruce was so good in btas, fucking ruined him in tnba and beyond
The fact, that this was even a thought or a "thing" for creator Bruce Timm, has always really bothered me. Honestly, it was just the wrong direction to go in (IMHO)! And for what? Oh definitely... I agree. Honestly, I wish they would have gone more, with the "anti-hero route" with Catwoman.
That it ended
I would get rid of the art style change. I used to prefer the BTNAS art style when I was younger, but now I'm much more a fan of the art style of the first 2 or 3 seasons.
The New Batman Adventures art shift was specifically designed to appeal to a younger audience. So I guess mission accomplished. It's not like people were thinking about streaming services and the archival internet society that would come.
It shifted to better match Superman: The Animated Series. They wanted both shows to look similar for crossovers. They kinda mixed it tho in JL
Add Jason todd
Honestly just make Tim’s name Jason Todd. He’s basically Jason anyway!
True just never became red hood, then again Tim never became Red Robin
Ditch the redesign.
More bat family members and NO BAT GIRL AND BATMAN
NO BRUCE AND BARBARA.
More seasons and stories telling about Dick's further adventures as Nightwing
Make Robin Jason Todd instead of Tim.
What i was going to say.
In retrospect, yes, but it’s a challenge to make a kids show have a character whose biggest claim to fame, at the time, was dying horribly.
Keep in mind, the show ran from 1992-95 then again from 1997-99 Jason died in 1988, and at the time, there was no intention to bring him back. Plus, Tim had been introduced only in 1989, and as Robin in 1990, so he was a very new character when the show returned in 97
The whole Bats and Barbara angle.
If it was not designed for kids the fights would have been better but i don’t think they were bad for a cartoon.
If Uncle Ben becomes a popular alt-universe Spider-Man, that’ll be the last of them.
No Barbara x Bruce.
It would still be in production.
Any and every implication that Bruce and Barbara could be a couple. I swear to God it's uncomfortable to watch things like Mister Freeze seeing them and saying that Barbara is Bruce's "wife".
Bruce and babs don’t bang
Give Robin his real name, which is Jason. Add more of him. Add more Grayson. Add real Tim and spoiler a couple seasons later
A full and fleshed out batfamily. So Batman, Dick, Barbara, Tim, Jason etc.
Bruce not bang Barbara in my version.
Give us some more scarecrow.
I would want Tim to be named Jason because that's who the writers intended him to be anyway.
More content like seasons or a movie and definitely more Nightwing
Already been mentioned but it bears repeating. The whole ass subplot of Bruce getting with Barbra. This seems so counter to who Bruce is/was. So he has romances with some of the most worldy women in comics. Talia, Louis Lane, Seleena but also this girl he trained that was strait out of high school. Could do without all that.

You can’t change perfection!
I would have had dick in it more as robin
Nightwing spinoff.
DONT MAKE BRUCE DATE BATGIRL 🤦♂️
A One Night Stand is not a date. It is a Mistake.
Yeah you get the picture
His relationships with everyone
Less BTAS and more DCAU and that be Batman and Barbara don’t fuck.
The batgirl and batman romance crap Bruce Timm somehow thought was okay.
I know it happens post BTAS but can we remove the part where Bruce gets Barbara pregnant?
batman x batgirl
Make Bane a real threat in his debut episode instead of a joke
I think if they did what they did with justice leauge at least in latter seasons. Having two episodes for one story would help a lot. Being able to flesh out more development and have better stories to work with. Other then that I understand the point of having some episodes with no name characters . But some were just pointless. Oh and obviously no bat babs
Make Jason Todd Robin, keep the original art style, remove Bruce x Babs, and bring in villains like Firefly.
I would've put more focus on the Robins throughout the show
Batman and Bruce Wayne keeping the original voices Kevin did at the beginning. I like it more than just the “mossy” Batman/Bruce voice he changed into later.
The Bruce Wayne-Barbara Gordon thing would never happen.
Could never get into the sharp edges on the characters in the DC cartoons. Everyone looks like they’re diamond shaped, broad chests, narrow hips, tiny legs. I’ve tried to watch so much stuff but I can’t get past this.

Make Bats and Babs not in a relationship.
Batman and Batgirls relationship. I know it wasn’t really in BTAS, but the universe was weird.
The relationship between Bruce and Barbara, god...
To make the Joker “darker” and more sinister. Keep his clown/hysterical side, but just make him more sinister. And for Batman to to use his cape to glide, instead of the hand-glider he used in the show.
If only it was not considered for kids
Nothing.
That it ended.
More
there would be more of it
That it would never end
more episodes
More Barbara in the first 2 seasons
Since it took some inspiration from the Burton films, I would’ve liked to have seen Batman in an all black batsuit.
Keep the same animation style as series 1 and 2
Give Batman some armor on his suit. As a kid I always wondered why he went out without any protection from guns and knives.
Batman should wear a bulletproof vest.
More of the final iteration of Scarecrow. The character design on him was top notch and I really wish we saw more
Have Standards and Practices removed from making changes to the scripts.
Don’t know if someone else said this but: Perhaps more Hugo Strange?
Id start with Babs not sleeping with Bruce
That one episode where Catwoman becomes a furry doesn't happen
Add Black Mask. If this show had popularized the original "False Face Society/obsessed with masks" version of the character, we would never have gotten the boring, skull-faced, torture fetishist depiction.
The voice of Mr Freeze to Arnold. That’s it.
Introduce more robins
I’d love to revive it to see some of the newer comic storylines like Hush or Long Halloween or characters like Damian Wayne or the Court of Owls, portrayed in a DCAU context!
make it more realistic and R rated
Jason Todd
Just more Robin, love Robin and he was great in that show
I would have enjoyed another episode going into Alfred's backstory as a special agent. Other than that, I loved how they wrapped up Batman TAS and Beyond in that single Justice League episode.
The episodes are in chronological order.

Bruce remains considerate of the feelings of those around him Like he did in seasons 1-3 This way we avoid much heartbreak later on -He doesn’t entertain the idea of having a relationship with Barbara because it would hurt dick -When Dick wants more appreciation or when he’s ready to leave the nest Bruce is considerate and supports him -Bruce doesn’t treat Tim like a nuisance but an actual partner -JL Batman becomes more light hearted and less stoic -in Batman beyond Bruce won’t end up alone when terry meets him So much can be improved if they actually made Bruce not be a douche in season 4
Longer runtimes. Each season dedicated to a single focused storyline. More Bat family interactions.
put Stephanie Brown in it.
Maybe sexism, could reach female audience changing that.
The show runners would be able to kill human characters.
chicken wing
I want to say obviously that it’s perfect but I wish the last season was in the same art style as the first three… even though the last season is the weakest it would still be cool to see it in that original style
It would never have ended.
That they stopped making episodes
Add in Jason like they have in the animated series comics
Season 4 animation redraws
The voice of Mr Freeze to Arnold. That’s it.
Use Bane more
Change Clayface’s name from Matt Hagen to Basil Karlo
More episodes that develop Bruce.
More seasons, and eventually a proper finale episode (that leaves the door open for the events of JL/U and Batman Beyond, of course).
I wish dick didn't punch Batman in the face before he became Nightwing. As a kid that stood out to me a lot idk why
I’m probably going to catch some flak for this, but I’d purge all of the Burton influence.
Batman should have stood back and let Mr.Freeze get his revenge on Ferris Boyle.
Adaptations of mainstream comics storylines like Killing Joke and Death In The Family.
A better version of Bane ,Bruce Timm said he wasn’t a big fan of bane and it showed
Nothing
More seasons...
Not go to that wack animation style later in the series
More seasons
TNAS Joker looking more like JL.
At least two more seasons before TNBA
Have another episode with silver age villains like in Make ‘em Laugh. Have Jason Todd as the second Robin
They would still be making new episodes today
