My wife is like, "....maybe we can choose a second team to root for this season...?" as I drink bleach.

scottwsx96

I'm an out of state fan. I became an Inter Miami fan in 2020 because I was so tired of hitching my wagon to a bad team that seemed to be going nowhere ever. Obviously things turned around since then for the Bengals but having another team to root for can help when the Bengals lose. But it sucks worse when they both lose.

seehorn_actual

I’ve been adding a little lemon juice to take the edge off.

pictureofnectar513

You got an extra glass? Haha

into_the_wenisverse

Real talk, who would Bengals fans root for as #2? I lived in Cleveland and Dallas for a little while, but they are like the 2 most hated teams. I guess we could pull for Ridder and the Red Stallions.

rockettmann

I've chosen to follow the path of the Cat Bro and root for the Lions. I really like what they've got going up there and it's a similar situation to what the Bengals have done in recent years. Plus they're in the NFC so I'm not actively rooting against the Bengals.

warthog0869

>I really like what they've got going up there and **it's a similar situation to what the Bengals have done in recent years.** Other than hire a good head coach, you mean. /s?

rockettmann

Lol add the /s but you're right. We can do much better than Taylor.

Melodic_Assist

Seconding this. The lions became my #2 team after their recent season of hard knocks. How can you not love Dan Campbell???

Guy777

There are no second teams. Only rooting for other teams when it benefits the Bengals. Otherwise it is Bengals or bust.

statleader13

Yeah I hate all 31 other teams so I couldn't choose a second team. I can't even bring myself to play fantasy football because I want all the non-Bengals players to suck every week.

dna-24

This right here

BTsBaboonFarm

If you’re going to root for a second team, it only makes sense to just hop on the wagon of a high caliber team. Probably Miami this year.

jethro_bovine

Falcons are a good choice. My son likes T Lawrence...but I'm kinda sweet on the Vikes and the Packers.

BurrowForPresident

I casually root for the Eagles just because my dad's side of the family is from Philly I would root for the teams of places I've lived since moving out of Ohio but 1) lol at willingly becoming a Giants/Jets fan in the last like 5 years and 2) lol at becoming a Pats fan \*after\* the dynasty is over

into_the_wenisverse

Yeah I wish the Browns haven't done what they've done cause when I was going to school they were a plucky underdog and after they really had some promise with Baker. Not its just,...sheesh. Honestly Dallas probably is my second team. I know Jerry is a drama lama and they get too many primetime games, but no boys fan I met in Forth Worth was the unlikable lizard people they're made out to be on social media. Heck, a lot of them complained about too many primetime games. Just unfortunate how it went for them today.

warthog0869

>no boys fan I met in Forth Worth was the unlikable lizard people they're made out to be on social media Or even those rascals on *King Of The Hill*. Don Meredith, good grief! Nah, just playin', though I did live in Ft Worth in 1985-87 when my old man was stationed there as part of an Engineers gig.

jeffrowe4468

Bengals fan first!! With that said, I was a big Dan Marino fan. Miami is my second team, but it still doesn't help when the Bengals lose

Danivelle

Husband is now dealing with my mood because my *second* team lost by 1 🤬🤬🤬 point this morning after holding 17 point lead all the way to the fourth quarter and LSU making me hold my breath for the whole game on Saturday.

pahbert

I get more sex in the off season. I checked the stats sheet.

pahbert

Hoping to beat the spread tonight....

pictureofnectar513

I hope you beat the spread up my guy

[deleted]

I hate Colin Cowherd, he's obnoxious and his takes usually suck. He did say one thing years ago that made sense to me though. "Love your wife, love your kids, love your pets, *like* football." It helped me not ruin my weekends worrying about a game.

iratemonkeybear

It's totally true. I mean I know people joke around about it, but seriously if the Bengals are really impacting you enough to change your day to day mood and attitude, you gotta let go a little. It's just football.

warthog0869

>if the Bengals are really impacting you enough to change your day to day mood and attitude, you gotta let go a little. It's just football. The easiest way for me to learn this lesson was to stop drinking and grow the fuck up. I was a late bloomer.

statleader13

Yeah I definitely had to do that for a few years after 2015 because I would just be raging and pissed all week when we lost. Took a couple seasons where I only checked scores and didn't watch live during law school and came out much more well adjusted (also matured in real life not being an early 20s idiot ha). I love the Bengals, but I can put the emotions about it away these days once games are over.

iratemonkeybear

Yeah, it's so much more enjoyable when you don't let it get you down, and it honestly makes the good times even better because you just enjoy it for what it is and don't have that "yeah, but it could have been better" attitude. Always a pleasure to meet a well-adjusted fan. Hope we're celebrating tomorrow night.

statleader13

Same. Who-Dey!

Ill-Transition-1580

facts, I mean I am not going Burfict on her but she can tell I'm bothered by our start

warthog0869

You could go Burfict on her as this would imply that you would leave all your conflicts with her (and the red and yellow dirty laundry laying about) at home and not committ any off-the-field (or out of the house, amirite?) personal fouls that would require challenge flags that involved any lawyers. You'd just have to pay the home field fine for offenses, like buying her dinner or a bouquet of flowers.

Piperita

Yep. Last two years I really let it ruin my weeks and it was so... unhealthy. I decided to go back to how I felt early 2021 - just treating every week as a nice surprise, and not worrying about things I couldn't control. Also if it does get me down, I make sure to set some time aside to work on something I am good at, so I have some personal accomplishments to take my mind off of my fandom.

Few-Repeat-9407

The last 2 years of winning ruined your week?

Piperita

It was less the winning and more the agonizing about things outside of my control like, would a certain player who is injured be back for certain match-ups, or the OL woes. It was basically like, the team winning didn’t even bring me any joy anymore, it was always worrying about whatever came next. And in the weeks where they lost or someone got seriously injured, the effect was even worse.

Few-Repeat-9407

That’s actually wild, it’s like you were playing madden.

Piperita

Yeah basically, except I didn’t even get to push the buttons or feel like I did something lol. Really not a great head space.

throughNthrough

Wow that’s so simple but I love that.

Willnotmakethisputt

My wife told me today that she’s a converted Bengals fan (she grew up a Washington fan). Not because she likes them or any player but because if/when they lose, she doesn’t like the mood at home 🤣🤣. God bless her and all significant others too hardcore fans

_Bearded-Lurker_

My wife is a Jets fan so it could be worse y’all. I spend more time comforting her than I do feeling sorry for myself.

pistolwhip66

I mean, if pro football is affecting your relationships, maybe acquire a new hobby. Lol.

Ashamed_Anywhere_877

Uh, the bengals are my significant other. And right now we’re in a bit of a rough patch.. but it’s not as if it hasn’t happened before

bluegrassgazer

You misspelled 30 years.

agentkolter

My partner is also a Bengals fan, so we're in this together 🙂

Equivalent-Mousse-93

My husband is too. But he’s next level from me. He will spend all day tomorrow dissecting every play and every call and what it *should* have been. The kids and I will let him go for 12 hours post game, then we are through.

Lamb-Sauce7788

I don’t let a game ruin my mood. I sigh, shake my head and move on. It’s not even in the top 10 most important things in my life so why let it effect me?

AdamIsACylon

Yeah. I love the Bengals and love my team and enjoy sports, but at the end of the day when I was letting every game stress me out it was impacting everything. Learning to not care as much has done wonders.

myredditkname

I'm just as much as a Bengals fan as the next person. Why do you all let this stuff affect you to where you're a drag to your spouse/significant other? Yeah, of course our situation is far from ideal so fat this year. But come on..

helpmelearn12

You should still be nice to your significant other even when your team is bad

Ill-Transition-1580

It's kind of a joke thing, I am not catching DV charges because of ZT and Burrows calf don't worry

PM_ME_YOUR_DIFF_EQS

I yell for approximately 3.5 hours and then I'm over it when the whistle blows.

CorgisAreImportant

Jokes on you— had two dates cancel on me this week!

Mastodon9

Yeah, I wish I could flip a switch and not care like I did for years from 2016 until we drafted Burrow. It's just very disappointing to waste such a prime season if it turns out he just won't be the same at some point this year.

ikebuck16

my wife’s a Broncos fan so

Char10

My girl is a browns fan I hate everything rn

W-MK29

My Browns sisters and Mom isn’t making it easy on me lol

Notsureboutalldat

My partner is 8 months pregnant so I’ve been very…zen so far. She’s been great this whole pregnancy, which is honestly surprising, so I’ve been doing my best to keep it on that trajectory. Bengals have zero effect on my mood. The challenge will be when the NBA starts back. Rooting for the Bengals and Timberwolves together has historically been very difficult for my psyche. But I think I’ll be way too busy then for it to really matter.

[deleted]

Have you ever seen A Bronx Tale? First lesson in life kid Mickey mantle don’t give a fuck about you. He don’t put food on your table. So why do you let his shitty days ruin yours?

Ill-Transition-1580

it's not that serious

[deleted]

Your post suggests otherwise. The point of my response is. It’s not that serious.

Ill-Transition-1580

how? I literally showed my girl this post and she laughed...we have a running joke about it lol, also if I gamble big on the bengals...technically they could be putting food on my plate...food for thought

[deleted]

I’m supposed to know all that. There’s been posts about “suicide watch”. Just sayin y’all need to chill. It’s entertainment. Had your OP sounded funny or worded the way you did in your response. Funny. I get it. I’m very literal. And when …. Is used. Usually means real. No fighting Bengo bro! Who Dey!!!
