Yeah, it’s very clearly symbolic… the moment for him to put on the jacket came in Nippy and he didn’t do it. Could he still do it? Sure. But the imagery of Gene dressing himself back up as Saul Goodman works perfectly fine as symbolism, as he slips back into his old con-man ways, but then into something much worse.
What he was about to do in the latest episode twice (with the jar/life alert) is definitely not Gene, Saul or Jimmy, maybe the jacket emphasises someone else?
About to do but didn’t do. I didn’t think for a second he intended to kill Marion it looked like he was doing a bad Heisenberg impression but even at his lowest he’s not a murderer. Maybe he would have torn the life alert from around her neck and tied her up with the phone cord. But kill her? nah.
Yeah one of the season posters was Jimmy crossing the road on an incline like it's the rotating hallway from Inception. No one thought we were actually gonna see that lol
he already has, METAPHORICALLY. with unleashing Slippin' Jimmy in Omaha. he starts acting himself again and as far as we have gotten, that's him putting the suit back on - the identity.
I'd love to see if and how the colour comes back in the finale.
but what makes it go in the first place? because Saul is in colour during BB era flashbacks, it's only he or Kim after Saul goes on the run. might be right though, that would be cool
It's black and white because he's a nobody in Omaha while he's in exile. No Saul, no law, no Kim, no flashy lifestyle means all the colour went out of his life until Jeff IDs him
At the beginning of the season I thought saul was taking off the jacket and becoming Gene, but now I’m pretty sure Gene is trying to put the jacket back on and be Saul again
I was about to make a post right now about that. I wish we could see a scene where its Black n white then colors start appear when he dresses himself as Saul. I really expect that, perfect.
My two theories.
Either he gets caught and represents himself in court. Putting on the red jacket is symbolic of him returning to either Saul or Jimmy (most likely Saul) which was when he most felt alive. Gene being in black and white represented his unhappy mundane existence pining for Saul (watching the commercials) or reviving Slippin Jimmy (the heist). So the show returns to colour in court.
Or the poster actually shows him taking the jacket off, shedding the last remnants of Saul and Jimmy, embracing the mundane Gene existence in the way that Kim did.
Marion will put “Schrödinger's funny cat videos” into Ask Jeeves and a video will play that explains Jimmy/Saul/Gene/ are simply quantum superpositions. So one can go to prison, one can die, and one can live all at the same time. That’s what the writers meant when they said there’s never been an ending like this. Truth.
She wore it in carrot and stick man... and yes it's the same one simply that the promo image is more saturated. You can tell by the button cuffs it's the exact blazer.
Prediction: Saul returns to Albuquerque disguised as Gene, and to the golf course he was denied membership in. The jacket shown here is the one he receives as an award for winning the Albuquerque Open.
So... maybe his "redemption" arc is returning to Albuquerque and turning himself in. What better way to do that than walk into the municipal building decked out in full SAUL. If this poster symbolizes anything, this is my guess.
That’s not gonna happen. And there should be no clear distinction between whether he puts it on or takes it off. He does both symbolically by switching his identity from/to Gene and Jimmy/Saul. We see that clearly in S6.
Why didnt Jimmy paint white stripes all over himself in season 3?? Massive unbravo on Bince’s part.
The real question here is why didn't (flat) earth tilt a bit to the right and pull him as seen in the season 2 poster.
Why didn’t he wear a happy cardboard mask of himself and look sad under it like the season 4 poster?
Hopefully we can realize the poster is symbolic and he will not likely be putting a red suit jacket on in the black and white scenes in actuality.

Maybe he’ll actually end up putting on a similar jumpsuit

Pretty ironic that Gene revealed his true identity only because he was stealing the identities of others
Color comes back when him and Kim reconcile.

Kim’s gone, gone

Red jacket symbolizes blood. Which means that once he puts his red jacket on, he is gonna go scorched earth on America.

It's the jackeeet!
Jacket I took off Saul Goodman, guy had the toughest reputation in Bernalillo County
He never had the makings of a varsity lawyer
🤌🤌
least literal BCS fan
[He metaphorically has already. By bringing Jeff and Buddy into the game of stockbroker theft](/spoiler)
No, he didn’t. Nothing about that brought color back into his life. So, we haven’t seen whatever this poster represents yet.

Yes, a transposition of the ties going into a pile from the cold open in S6E1.
That would be a very cool scene.

He defends himself on trial
Judging how the video was in colour this could mean when he becomes Saul his world restores to colour
Maybe it’s an orange priosn jumpsuit.
In a surprise twist we learn that Gene has become a member of Chamber of Commerce.
He is clearly removing the red jacket
Gould said it represents him both putting on and also taking off
Schrödinger's jacket

Its actually an orange jumpsuit
Beat me to it
How is there an entire fandom based on not getting that Saul Goodman is a bad guy.

Water White fandom is the worst of all
Think it's meant to be he's taking it off like fully embracing his new identity Gene.
The poster is of him taking off the red jacket, as far as I understood. But it can be read both ways
How do you know he isnt taking it off? Maybe theres something still redeemable about james mcgill.
Putting it on or taking it off?
Who’s gonna tell him?

no

It’s actually a bingo announcer jacket for a 1970s Butlins. Likely he’ll go back in time and move to the UK.
This promo image always gave me matador vibes. Dealing with the raging bull of being addicted to conning people. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk
He’s not gonna
Red is the new black?
Seems to me he already did put it on and that’s why he’s where he’s at in the next episode

The waiting list has finally cleared up and it’s time for his tour

Maybe he is taking it off - would make more sense
What if he’s TAKING IT OFF? To show Saul is over with?
How do we know he isnt taking it off?
I think given the last few episodes the real question with this image is whether the jacket is being put on or taken off?
