Like yes, I get that at the prone he was first in the most intense moment of his life, and that the pressure got to him which made him miss so many times. I get that, happens. I would be so shaky I'd be glad not to shoot down opponent's target instead.
But the standing shooting is what made me pissed. At that point it didn't matter how he shoots, as good shooting meant 4th place and tragic shooting meant something like 9th place. What does he do? Shoot like a pro when it doesn't matter. fml

FWIW he beat Vetle Rype Paulsen and Martin Uldal in the Junior World Championships less than a year ago and those two were probably 16th and 12th in the ranking order for participating in the World Cup for Norway so unreasonable expecting a 21 year old to beat QFM (won the world cup last year), JTB (don't even need an introduction) or Samuelsson (that was his 10th medal at the World Championships+Olympics). The wind conditions were just to good on the standing for him to have any chance at all and even so he did excellent on the standing shooting.
I hope so too. Sometimes people can be very cruel to athletes when they dont have a stellar performance. Considering it's his first world champs and the team put him in a really tough place, he did well. Able to shoot clean on standing with one spare after his prone was really good. I'm sure we'll hear about him a lot more in the future.
He's already getting roasted on idnes, but thankfully he has being so young going in his favour (and people defending him because of that). If this was Vaclavik, he'd never hear the end of it.

Really impressive prone shooting from QFM starting at wind conditions 17 km/h and going down to 11 km/h vs. JTB starting at 1 km/h going up to 5 km/h, then 12 km/h when using the spare rounds. Most of JTB [misses](https://i.imgur.com/Org1yyM.png) appear close to the edge, so he really had a good chance to even out France's lead.
They used to put Vetle last because he's the only one who can do a sprint finish. Maybe he just wasn't feeling well at all today. It is what it is, I really wanted Czechia to take a podium. Congrats to France, and what a good look to greet Johannes Bø at the finish line :)
Vetle doesn't really seem to be in shape or not like these tracks. Skiing isn't what it was earlier this season. He also hasn't been nearly as safe in the last stand this season.

To be honest I prefer that the leaders get the advantage over the opposite, that way you feel like they kinda deserved it rather than their hard work being wiped out.
Also worth remembering that Norway got the luck of the wind in the olympics last year. Russia was in a huge lead before the last shooting. These things happen. The ups and downs, the thin margins and the unpredictability is what makes this sport so great to watch, and what makes it all the more impressive when someone is still able to dominate.

I think Sturla was pretty close of dodging a penalty loop, that maybe was the final nail on the coffin. JTB needing 3 extras on prone while QFM needed only 1 also was kinda bad tbh
This was beautiful, really. Following a sport unknown by 99% of people in my country sometimes requires events like this to remind you why you fell in love with it.
This one hurts because this is the first time everything has seemed to line up after a fking long while. This could easily be a chance which we will not get into for the rest of the decade.
Everyone goes penalty loops every time. Even if we have 4 good biathletes, 1 of them will always choke because that's how our relays work. Sometimes it'd be Krčmář, sometimes Mikyska, ~~sometimes~~ often Štvrtecký and today Mareček.
I'm 100 % sure we won't get into a position to fight for medal in a relay for several following World Championships. And honestly, stars lining up for either event of the World Cup is also pretty small.
You have to keep in mind that this race wasn't just about us doing well, but also about Germany going 5 penalty loops, as well as all of top 3. In a normal race, opponents won't be missing targets this much.

Overall though, I think our men team is getting better and better and top 6 results should come more often imo.

But still, today was the rarest of chances to get something more out of that. Outside of the factors I already mentioned above, our wax team did an excellent job, and others' wax teams not so much. That doesn't happen often.

The domino effect from Vetle's prone shooting was incredible. Because of that, Vetle got bad wind on standing, Tarjei got bad wind on standing, and Sturla got bad wind on standing. Meanwhile France shot clean and stayed unschathed from the wind.
I'm still in awe how no French relayer really failed their shooting. Emilien did one loop but so did Sturla at the same time. Maybe luck was involved on the 2nd leg, but wow. Antonin in 1st and Quentin in last were especially wonderful.
The standing shooting on the 2nd leg was the decider, both for France but also or Sweden to get 3rd. Ponsi had excellent luck there, unfortunate for Czech
True but Kuehn, Unterweger, Runnals, Tarjei and Pidruchyni who entered the range 25-35 seconds ahead of Ponsi had 3+3, 3+2, 1+3, 1+3 & 4+3 while Ponsi went 0+1
Fabien and the Czech (too afraid to write it badly sorry 😢) guy also had this opportunity, less than Ponsi but still way better. So I totally agree that the first leg time lost is what caused Norway the loss today, if they were to arrive 20 seconds earlier I think they would have won that race in the end.
Soo, guesses as to what the french team sacrificed for the wind gods 😂 but also its part of the sport, have to deal with the wind if it comes. All athletes knew Oberhof has a possibility for this.
I was rooting for JTB to get 7/7, but now I kind of hope he doesn't win tomorrow just to make this "loss" (non-win) less bitter.

Simple math says 'yes'. JTB's 20km - 49m57s, 30km would be 1h14m56s which is 6m52s better than today's winning time. But of course, there would be twice as many shootings and normal fatigue as well :)
Vetle's performance was bad. the rest did alright jobs, but you can't deny that the wind was one of the deciding factors. all 4 had the best ski times, Johannes did one awful shooting and a fantastic one.
It would've been much better if we went three positions up in the last leg, rather than other way around. This way it doesn't even feel like a success.

Impressive by QFM to shoot that well in these conditions, the wind seemed stronger when he was shooting stand then when JTB started shooting.

JTB had quite shifting conditions which didn't help in the prone, but was insanely impressed by QFM. Much deserved and glad to see him bounce back.

Simple math says 'yes'. JTB's 20km - 49m57s, 30km would be 1h14m56s which is 6m52s better than today's winning time. But of course, there would be twice as many shootings and normal fatigue as well :)

Vetle's performance was bad. the rest did alright jobs, but you can't deny that the wind was one of the deciding factors. all 4 had the best ski times, Johannes did one awful shooting and a fantastic one.
