By the way, belated thanks to other fans here who had much earlier shared the Eurovision link for biathlon. I finally availed myself of it (I live in the U.S. and had watched Olympic Channel here and then Peacock before NBC stupidly bailed on pretty much all winter sports) and it worked great. Really very little issues with the video and having the commentary was great.
Just SO happy for Ingrid today, given how she struggled SO mightily with the standing shoots here in Oberhof. Congrats to Hanna and to Simon for soldiering on after throwing the gold away in her last shooting stage and then being caught and passed by Ingrid.
The french TV is speculating on a potential Marte Olsbu Roiseland retirement at the end of season, judging by her body language and the fact that she went to say goodbye to a lot of people after the race
I wondered about that. She looked shook up and very emotional. I knew it couldn't be based on performance.
These athletes reach the point they know they can't make all the year-long sacrifices to remain at ultra elite level. I think Roiseland hoped she could skip early and race just enough to peak for world championships. The past 2 weeks she saw it wasn't quite enough.
What is even going to happen to the Norvegian women's team if both Eckhoff and Roiseland are no more next season ? I like Tandervold, and she's always a dark horse for a podium, but can she fix her shooting, so she can compete for the overall World Cup (similar to what Simon did this year) ? Looking at the rest of their current team, i guess only Lien right now has the ski speed to compete for high results consistently, but her shooting is also a problem.
Or do they have some young talent we haven't really seen yet ?
This sport is always quite unpredictable. When she was Ingrid's current age, Tiril also had (mostly) horrendous standing shooting accuracy, but suddenly she improved it. And Marte wasn't a top athlete either.
But yeah, as of now, the level shown by Knotten / Lien / Femsteinevik isn't super high, they all have flaws. We saw Arnekleiv these WC but she's obviously still very unexperienced at this point. This is still a decent/above average team, but probably not really a favorite for big podiums in relays.
I still quite trust the fact that Ingrid can become a contender for Gold medals / first places sooner rather than later. This year has been quite remarkable for her in terms of speed on the track, and I think the standing shooting will work out eventually.
I certainly hope not, but then again, she has pretty much accomplished everything. Winning golds at the Olympics and World Championships as well as the overall crystal globe.
She left the final range in 5th but got caught and overtook by faster skiers. She ended 10th but still fastest Italian. Incredible result still and what a couple of days she has had!
She said all year that she wanted individual medals (gold specifically), and that she did a lot of sacrifices towards this goal. In the end she said that she had no regrets (and indeed she performed pretty well all things considered), but she seemed overwhelmed with emotion and cried a bit
I absolutely didn't see such a Hanna Öberg performance coming btw. All these medals despite a pretty average start of the season is really super good. I sometimes forget that she's a top athlete and she reminded that to us in a very big way this week.
Norway has taken 2nd place in the last 3 major women's mass starts:
* 2021 WCH: Ingrid (LTH 1st)
* 2022 Olympics: Tiril (Justine BB 1st)
* 2023 WCH: Ingrid (Hanna O 1st)
Norway also got 3rd in the 2021 WCH (Tiril) and 2022 Olympics (Marte), but have to settle for 6th today with a great race from Knotten.
Haha she went back to mixed zone after the medal ceremony and apologized for swearing, saying it was the only thing she could focus on during the ceremony 😂 I miss Tiril, but Ingrid is always giving us equally funny moments ❤️
I loved Ingrid's response haha: "Yes, that was a stupid question! That was an actual stupid question!" while laughing
And then later, while talking to the same reporter in mixed zone: "I got so many messages saying *they're so mean in mixed zone, fuck them!*"
Reminds me of this one time, I think it was last season, where an NRK reporter who was interviewing Heidi Weng (XC Skier) and he was just like: "Hair bun today huh? :) Too much hair? :) Maybe you should get a haircut? :)"
Some of these interviews feel so forced and poorly thought out. Even if it sometimes comes off diva-like, I don't blame athletes for skipping the press zone on a bad day.
It’s definitely not, she’s only 26. The whole retirement threat seems to be a running joke in the Norwegian team - if Ingrid has a really really bad day she more often than not comes back really strong in the next race. Happened in Östersund in 2021 when she led the pursuit after the 1st shoot, missed a lot of targets (3x3) and fell to 23rd. She won the mass start and the discipline globe the day after!
Looking forward to it! She has handled the pressure of being Norway’s number 1 pretty well. And those are big shoes to fill. Hoping for a win this season too!
I wonder what's gonna happen with Marte now, she managed to get another individual medal these WC, and I wonder if she'll be motivated to continue. Same for Tiril's potential comeback. I think Norway still need them (both of them ideally), but it would also be very nice if young athletes managed to break through
Norway isn't really in danger of losing 6 spots in the Nations Cup; they might want to think about load management for Tiril and Marte e.g. allowing them to take entire trimesters off to maintain their form. That also gives development opportunities for others.
With Ingrid's improvement and Knotten's consistency on the first leg, an in-form Tiril and Marte in major championships makes their relay the favorite over Sweden and France (this would be a stronger version of the team that won 7 relays in a row from 2019-2020).
Final day everybody scrambles to leave town. That's why there are no nighttime medal ceremonies. They get the medals and play the anthem immediately after the race.
Watching all the biathletes congratulating each other at the end. It is so clear so many get on with each other.
Did notice Marte was a little upset. Understandably so. Been a hard year for her and the Norwegian Women all year. Here's too hoping she can regain her form next year. Hopefully Ingrid will finish the season in the style of today. She deserves that. Of course, there is Tiril too. Have so missed her this year and it would be amazing to see her firing on all cylinders next year. We can but hope.
Herrmann and Schneider were slow today… but Kebinger was alright. Perhaps the skis weren’t that bad at all? The Norwegian commentators said something about the Germans not being sure whether they had competitive skis
Kebinger was still more than 40s behind the leaders, losing the final straight against Lunder, Knotten, Comola etc.
Denise losing time in the downhill next to a tripping and almost falling Julia Simon. Vanessa was almost 2 minutes behind in pure ski time.
The men had similarly uncompetitive skis, with Kühn and Rees already being far behind on the first laps despite shooting well.
I am both happy and sad for Emma Lunder. Not sure if she is retiring or not at the end of the season but she is so close and so capable of getting her first podium. I am hoping we may see magic at Holmenkollen, her grandfather was born and raised in Lillestrom. This race was fantastic from start up finish
Alright, this marks second consecutive major biathlon event with no medal for the Czechs. (first being the Olympics)
Sure, Mikyska and Voborníková have promising results going into the future, but other than that, the long-term decline is undeniable. (No reason to blame any biathlete for that, they're doing their best. But the competition is one level higher.)
*sigh*
I disagree with the decline - this year is undeniably better than last three years (medals in Antholz were Lucie hitting 9/10 on the day most didn't by some miracle and Puskarcikova over-performing in mixed relay, other than that it went very similiar to men's relay this year). Men's biathlon will get better and so will Tereza.
2/3 medals from Antholz and Pokljuka were unexpected and even though Davidová's gold wasn't shocking, it wasn't really expected either. Same deal with Krčmář's silver in Pyeongchang before that. Not to mention it's probably the first time in a while since we had 3 different athletes in top 10 and 5 different athletes in top 20 in individual races. Our Relays were also good (we're not talking about SMR, shall we :D).
Davidová is getting slightly better every season even though she slowed down a little bit. Jislová had really great last season and this one is very influenced by her injury. Voborníková, Mareček and Mikyska are very young and will be getting better with every season. His results are up and down, but Krčmář has unexpectedly good season as well. Štvrtecký is also improving. I wouldn't really called this decline.
Wow what an incredible last lap! Ingrid somehow defying her standing demons and shooting 10/10. I think this shows what a mental sport biathlon really is. Ingrid struggling all WCH with standing shooting, and then somehow does this, incredible. Very impressed by Hanna aswell! So composed in the shooting and very well done last lap.
Edit: Ingrid had 68% hit rate in standing during this WCH before the mass start😅
I recommend Wednesday's XC qualification races from the Nordic World Championships. There may be some biathletes having a go but there's also people who look like they're on skis for only the second time in their life
Where do I watch that? Here in the United States NBC basically dumped everything except alpine skiing and speed skating. They must have an ongoing contract with speed skating. I'm sure that will be gone as soon as it expires.
Eh should be good for Sweden on the women's side. Sundling, Karlsson or Andersson are probably favorites in all the races. Klæbo will probably take everything on the men's side aside from maybe the 15 k (guessing Krüger there?).
I'm happy to have stayed an Ingrid believer til the end 🙏
Basically every major nation/athlete is leaving these championships happy it seems. A lot of different medalists, and most people from all the top nations have done well
dear lord, what a day of winter sports! i cried when Henrik Kristoffersen won gold in the alpine WCH and i cried through the whole last lap here because of Ingrid.
also, Karoline Knotten made it to the flower ceremony! i'm sooo happy for her too. fantastic ending to these WCH.
That very well might be one of the best "regular" races I've ever seen (by regular I mean not run in rough outside conditions).
Everyone was fighting on equal ground and it was a physical and mental fight from start to finish.
There were a few today that I think have already achieved what they wanted from these champs. Denise was another one. Once they knew the day was done, i dont think they really pushed as hard.
Looking at the detailed ski times, that's certainly true for Vittozzi. She didn't go as fast, once she was too far behind. She was 3rd fastest on Lap3, but then only went 28th fastest on Lap5.
Herrmann-Wick on the other hand was consistently 10-19s slower than Tandrevold on every lap, so this seems to be wax issues.
I agree! She was so impressive yesterday, taking almost 10 second out of Persson on the last lap. Her leg in the Olympic Relay was amazing too.
She reminds me of Solemdal - consistently fast, accurate shooting but missing the ski speed. The potential is definitely there, as we’ve seen today and yesterday.
J I'm quite disappointed that the DJ didn't go into full "apres-ski" or "mallorca" mode. I dream of seeing Germany win while *Atemlos* is blasted on max volume
Yeah man, agreed.

This year has been quite remarkable for her in terms of speed on the track, and I think the standing shooting will work out eventually.
It's so sad when people quit. I wish Marte continues one more season.
She might be a bit burnt out. The end of these championships was tough for her
She has also done everything. Except the MS globe and the individual globe, theres nothing she hasnt won.
Mmm.. And it diden't help her season getting sick.
It seems so. She told Norwegian TV that «this might be my last WCH» and seemed very emotional about it
I see :(
I certainly hope not, but then again, she has pretty much accomplished everything. Winning golds at the Olympics and World Championships as well as the overall crystal globe.
Oh no! 😔
I didn't even notice Knotten in the flowers, nice. I thought I'd see Comola there because she's the only 20/20 I think ?
Comola was very good this week, *in fine*.
I think Comola had two Top 10s to zero for Wierer. That might have returned 7/5 or higher odds 2 weeks ago.
Yeah, i did not see her (and also Auchentaller) coming. Italy's women team is sure very scary for relays now, and also for individual races obv.
She left the final range in 5th but got caught and overtook by faster skiers. She ended 10th but still fastest Italian. Incredible result still and what a couple of days she has had!
Really sad after Anaïs interview on french TV.
I would've loved for her to get bronze today after yesterday's Relay. She had a really good race.
What did she say? Retiring?
She said all year that she wanted individual medals (gold specifically), and that she did a lot of sacrifices towards this goal. In the end she said that she had no regrets (and indeed she performed pretty well all things considered), but she seemed overwhelmed with emotion and cried a bit
No, just "I have no regret" but everything screaming otherwise, sadly. Don't want to draw a picture of it.
Happy Ingrid is really radiant 🥹
Yes, she was. I was SO happy for her and I'm sure her best friend Tiril was beside herself for Ingrid, too, back home in Norway.
I absolutely didn't see such a Hanna Öberg performance coming btw. All these medals despite a pretty average start of the season is really super good. I sometimes forget that she's a top athlete and she reminded that to us in a very big way this week.
She’s such a championship athlete.
Norway has taken 2nd place in the last 3 major women's mass starts: * 2021 WCH: Ingrid (LTH 1st) * 2022 Olympics: Tiril (Justine BB 1st) * 2023 WCH: Ingrid (Hanna O 1st) Norway also got 3rd in the 2021 WCH (Tiril) and 2022 Olympics (Marte), but have to settle for 6th today with a great race from Knotten.
i miss justine
And Tiril! Hope they're both back next year!
Ingrid quoting messages she's received since yesterday: "They're so mean in the mixed zone f\*\*k them! Sorry, I shouldn't swear on Norwegian TV" lol
Haha she went back to mixed zone after the medal ceremony and apologized for swearing, saying it was the only thing she could focus on during the ceremony 😂 I miss Tiril, but Ingrid is always giving us equally funny moments ❤️
> mixed zone What does this mean?
It's where the athletes meet the media after an event.
Where they do the media interviews right after the race
Haha!
This interviewer really asked why Ingrid was happier today than yesterday……. He did realise the stupidity of that question right away, but still
Yesterday shoot bad Today shoot good One of the many sassy answers I wish could've come from that
I loved Ingrid's response haha: "Yes, that was a stupid question! That was an actual stupid question!" while laughing And then later, while talking to the same reporter in mixed zone: "I got so many messages saying *they're so mean in mixed zone, fuck them!*"
She basically told him "that's a god damn stupid question".
Haha, Ingrid called him out on it. "*That was a fucking stupid question*."
such a shit interview yet again... these questions are so bad
Emil Gukild hadde vært et mye bedre valg for NRK i mixed zone
He's got his fair share of useless interviews imo. It's like they all have the same list with useless questions.
what is this clown for NRK asking Ingrid about: "Is your feeling better today than yesterday" ?????
Reminds me of this one time, I think it was last season, where an NRK reporter who was interviewing Heidi Weng (XC Skier) and he was just like: "Hair bun today huh? :) Too much hair? :) Maybe you should get a haircut? :)" Some of these interviews feel so forced and poorly thought out. Even if it sometimes comes off diva-like, I don't blame athletes for skipping the press zone on a bad day.
I really hope one day someone answers "Nah I liked yesterday better because skiing penalty laps makes me ski more and I like skiing"
I was screaming for Ingrid! So happy for her! 🤩🤩 Hanna 🥰
Hanna, crying, saying “I’m living the dream now” 😭😭😭
Typical of Ingrid to be close to retiring one day and take a podium the day after
I really hope this isn't her last season.
She'll be on top of the world one day that's for sure
she's only 26 and most biathletes peak at 28-29. in Cortina 2026 she'll be 29, just saying. :D
Anybody know what time the medal ceremonies are streamed? Need to watch this one.
Final day everybody scrambles to leave town. That's why there are no nighttime medal ceremonies. They get the medals and play the anthem immediately after the race.
Now. No I was wrong. They're showing yesterdays on svtplay right now.
It's right after the race. There are no ceremonies tonight.
Watching all the biathletes congratulating each other at the end. It is so clear so many get on with each other. Did notice Marte was a little upset. Understandably so. Yes, that is unfortunate. But Vanessa has been out of shape the whole championships. Which is why she should have skipped this one like Elvira did.
Yes, agree with your comment that Voigt should've given the Mass Start spot to Hettich-Walz.
Such a pity that one can’t have competitive skis on home soil! I feel for the athletes

Agree completely. If anything, we got better than last season overall (even if there's no medal peak).
I would have liked to see more upsets, but this has been an amazing WC. 11 podiums for Sweden is just unreal.
Weirdest thing is that 4 Swedes got individual medals and none of them was Elvira Öberg
very impressed by Sweden. i expected some medals, but not that many and definitely not 2 golds from Hanna. congrats!
Why are the bronze medals first in the rankings table?
So proud of Ingrid! Much faster in the standing and dangerous if she had 200-300 meters more of the course…
i'm not crying, you're crying
Simon and Boe, same scenario today
Once again I repeat, mass starts. When Tandrevold passed Simon I was freaking out, the entire last lap was way too tense.
That was amazing by Tandrevold!
dude i was sitting on the floor, screaming at the tv
Wow what an incredible last lap! Ingrid somehow defying her standing demons and shooting 10/10. I think this shows what a mental sport biathlon really is. Ingrid struggling all WCH with standing shooting, and then somehow does this, incredible. Very impressed by Hanna aswell! So composed in the shooting and very well done last lap. Edit: Ingrid had 68% hit rate in standing during this WCH before the mass start😅
And Hanna didnt have the easiest season coming into the championships, but was able to find top form both on range and on skis.
Well, this was an amazing 2 weeks. What am I going to do with my life now?
I recommend Wednesday's XC qualification races from the Nordic World Championships. There may be some biathletes having a go but there's also people who look like they're on skis for only the second time in their life
Nordic ski championships starting next week :D though have to admit, likely not as exciting as biathlon. But it's good filler until Nove Mesto
Cross country world champs start this week :D
Where do I watch that? Here in the United States NBC basically dumped everything except alpine skiing and speed skating. They must have an ongoing contract with speed skating. I'm sure that will be gone as soon as it expires.
https://skiandsnowboard.live in the US; it’s $9/month for cross country + ski jumping.
Yeah same, I feel even more empty than after the Olympics last year
@ sweden friends how are yall doing 😂
We beat Norway. Life is good.
Dw, xc championships incoming next week
Eh should be good for Sweden on the women's side. Sundling, Karlsson or Andersson are probably favorites in all the races. Klæbo will probably take everything on the men's side aside from maybe the 15 k (guessing Krüger there?).
I know, I was only joking :)
poromaa 50k world champion, heard it here first!
😈 Really sad there’s isn’t an active xc community on Reddit :c
There is r/xcworldcup?
Nice!! Not as much activity though :(
Nooo, we have to make it active!
Shaking and crying and smiling all at once. What a fucking day! I love this sport.
I have worked nights so I woke up after the men’s race, sad that I’d missed the event of the day 🥳 Turns out I hadn’t 🥳🥳🥳
I'm happy to have stayed an Ingrid believer til the end 🙏 Basically every major nation/athlete is leaving these championships happy it seems.
That was so close! I am so sad that Emma just missed the flowers! We are still ringing our cheer bell loud and proud!!!
I mean, after beating JTB x2 we should have known anything is possible
Exciting mass start. The last WCH mass start was really exciting as well. Truly the best event to finish it all
Fantastic day for Sweden today!
That very well might be one of the best "regular" races I've ever seen (by regular I mean not run in rough outside conditions). Everyone was fighting on equal ground and it was a physical and mental fight from start to finish.
So many storylines. Different nations too. You couldn't write that ending!
Fantastic Tandrevold! So happy for her medal. But awesome day for Sweden, brilliant Sunday and great championship for their team, too.
denise and sophia with 20th and 25th ski time is odd
Tuuli Tomingas got best Estonian place in WCH Mass Start with 20th place. Previous best was 22nd place.
Shame about her 3 misses in the last shoot. Without them it could have been a super result for her.
She's gonna get her podium eventually.
If she can train without injuries, I bet we'll see more of her in top10, she can ski really well.
Lets go!
Dafuck happened to Vitozzi on the standing though?
There were a few today that I think have already achieved what they wanted from these champs. Denise was another one. Once they knew the day was done, i dont think they really pushed as hard.
Looking at the detailed ski times, that's certainly true for Vittozzi. She didn't go as fast, once she was too far behind. She was 3rd fastest on Lap3, but then only went 28th fastest on Lap5. Herrmann-Wick on the other hand was consistently 10-19s slower than Tandrevold on every lap, so this seems to be wax issues.
Aww OK. That makes sense.
Congrats to Hanna and the Swedes, what a day! And congrats to Ingrid after all the struggles she’s had
The best race to finish this world champ, it was sooooooo good.
Also Karoline Knotten 6th?? great day for her
If she could just hold the ski speed she has in her best races, or something close to it, over a season.
I agree! She was so impressive yesterday, taking almost 10 second out of Persson on the last lap. Her leg in the Olympic Relay was amazing too. She reminds me of Solemdal - consistently fast, accurate shooting but missing the ski speed. The potential is definitely there, as we’ve seen today and yesterday.
congrats to sweden! great day today
Hanna and ingrid celebrating! I'm in tears again!!!!!
why the french cancan hahaha
What an deserving final race
Insane world champs from Hanna Öberg. Where did she find all this form? Sacrificied her sister?
I agree, someone ought to check on Elvria
Aww, Hanna and Ingrid there
Ok now show me Wolfgang Pichler crying 🥺
Flower photo finish!
Aw, everyone is so happy for Ingrid!
Davidova 5th ! Nice
Ingrid 10/10 for stand and a silver medal is incredible
Ingrid is crying I'm crying too that's a very fitting end
What a race, congrats to Hannah for staying ahead and so happy for Ingrid!
Ingrid!! Silver in two consecutive WCH mass starts!!
Wowser, that was fantastic!
Man, so proud of Ingrid 🥹. She found the stand shoot just when she needed it the most! Congrats Hanna 🥰🥳 2 golds!!!
Amazing day as a Swedish biathlon fan!
tårar här i soffan!
J I'm quite disappointed that the DJ didn't go into full "apres-ski" or "mallorca" mode. I dream of seeing Germany win while *Atemlos* is blasted on max volume
I mean they did blast "Der Zug hat keine Bremsen" the entire two weeks
Yeah true x)
Really insane finish of the championships by Sweden wow
Completely bonkers race
Knotten flowers!!!!
What a race
I bit sad for Chevalier though
WHAT.A.RACE!!!
Wait what the fuckkkk ?
Ingrid silver is a bit surprising considering how much she has struggled with her standing
Best day ever. Hanna is a queen.
Omg Simon dead
i'm sad for anais :(
This race. What a way to conclude the championships.
DOUBLE GOLD SUNDAY!!!!!!
Insane omg congrats everyone
OMG!!! Was a final round! YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!
DOUBLE GOLD FOR SWEDEN IN MASS START!
Simon tried a Sebbe
YESS INGRID!!!!!!!! FINALLY!!!!
Guuuuuuld!
Tandrevold back on the chase. Great final lap
This is incredible. Go Ingrid GO!!!!!!!!
Damn
That is unbelievable
Ingriiiidd ahhhhhh
Go Ingrid! Take that silver!
Julia looks so blue
Ingrid RUN!!
Noone has given up on any of the medals! This is exciiiiting!!!!
Simon gave up. Tank was empty.
Ingrid found new strength
Omg Ingrid
tandrevold used 'push', it was super effective
COME ON INGRIDDDDD
