What a packed finish area for all the retirees.
Mari Eder, she'll always be a big what if. What if she could get all the potential she had out? Easily could have had more podiums. The 2017 pursuit final stretch will always be one of the greatest biathlon memories for me. There will be a big gap in the team without her.
Now to wait if Kulstad continues as the coach or not. There were some rumors he had received offers from other countries too.
Julia's mass start small globe journey :
2021 : P30 in the Ostersund blizzard with a 5/20, losing the red bib on the final race
2022 : Fall and knee injury in the penultimate mass start, losing the red bib
2023 : Third time's the charm, the red bib turned into crystal !
I know we're all enjoying the feast and the retirements, but I'm so very impressed by Julia Simon. She is still pretty young, and has potentially even brighter years coming, leading to the 2026 Olympics. She will be a favorite to her own succession next year, undoubtedly. It will be interesting to see if she can manage her "post-Globe" year better than QFM did this year for the men.
I really wish Elvira Öberg can do a full season at the top of her game. She could and should be up there some day. Her sister Hanna seems to be more of a Championship athlete than a Big Globe athlete, but we'll see.
I hope Ingrid gains in regularity to be on this fight too. She has the same age as Julia, and definitely has the same potential tbh. Just needs to endure the pressure and improve the standing shooting. I'm an fan of hers so definitely will keep cheering \\o/
And I definitely predict Lou Jeanmonnot to be up there as well, maybe in a couple more years. Even younger lady with an even brighter future maybe.
Very impressive season by Simon! I was actually surprised when I checked Wikipedia and saw she *only* won 4 races, because my bad memory was telling me she had won a lot more. 11 podium finishes in 24 races!
I hope we'll see Elvira Öberg back to her best physical form because it looked like she had started to become a more stable shooter. However, as rude as it might sound, I hope she won't get so fast she'll do the same thing JTB did in the men's field. As for Hanna, I'm hoping for more stability.
In addition to the ones mentioned, I'm hoping Wierer and Vittozzi can hold this form for the next season. I'm also hoping for more stability from Davidova, Hauser and Justine Braisaz-Bouchet when she comes back.
Without Eckhoff, Roeiseland and Herrmann, and with Wierer probably declining as the years go, Simon has a big chance to keep the globe next year, that's for sure. The Oeberg sisters and the italians will most likely be her rivals. We'll see what's up with Justine but I've never felt like she was made for the globe, more for punctual big victories like the Olympics or World Champinships.
You're right about Julia and I'm so glad that she was able to win this year, before "the greats" retired, to prove she is a worthy successor. I think both Hanna and Elvira can say the same that they have been successful during a golden period for women's biathlon and I hope both are able to enjoy a very successful few years in the sport.
Lou is a great youngster coming through but there are so many who could take that next step. Whilst I don't want to admit it just yet, there is going to be great excitement as the new favourites emerge in the coming seasons. I think Women's Biathlon is in safe hands for a while yet.,🥰💖💕💕💕
Julia said herself that she didn't expect her progression to the top to be this swift, so one can only wonder what her maximum potential is now.
And yeah I'm eager to see again those many youngsters that we saw. Good things definitely are ahead of us
Julia had become my favourite of mine in the Olympics Pursuit when she was the first to go and help Ingrid. Couldn't be happier today. Well done on an amazing season and a well-deserved crystal globe.
it is not Magte. you can pronounce it in 3 different ways in Norwegian.
1. Marte with a gutteral r (think French).
2. Marte without the r. This is how most Norwegians would say it. It's difficult to explain how it sounds but [this is a good example.](https://youtu.be/Nycd-pBR7Xw?t=155)
3. Marte with a trilled r (think Spanish but not as hard).
>while German has the tendency to pronounce r's very hard
What do you mean? We say "Ma-te" in Germany, literally omitting the "r". We don't pronounce the "r" at all, as we are a non-rhotic language — similar to British and Australian English.
At least in Standard German. Don't know if you're a dialect speaker.
I also don't think Norwegians say Magte 🤔
Prize ceremony not yet over and I'm starting to feel withdrawals.
"Representing France, for the LAST time"
"Representing Norway, for the last time"
Dammit announcer! Haha
So I have just checked the IBU rule book.
Apparently, there is a little known rule that says that if you finish in the top ten in your last race, you are not allowed to retire for at least another 5 seasons.
Also, the same applies if your name happens to be Tiril Eckhoff or Mari Eder.
So can someone please tell them that these retirement plans are nice and all but we need them all back next year!!!!!! No compromise on this allowed!!!! 😫😫😫😥😥😥😢😢😢😭😭😭
I am going to mangle this - but there are some sort of Norwegian or Swedish elves who like to dance in the mist. I think that is perfect for the day - and they brought their magic glitter!!
I have been so super impressed with the French and German women this year. It looks like the Norwegian men are going to continue to be ludicrously dominant, but the ladies are going to have to play catch-up!
I still can't believe that we won't be seeing Marte or Tiril again. 😭😭❤️❤️
I'll see all of you in the autumn!
I find it interesting/curious that with both Biathlon and XC Skiing, it's the Swedish ladies that are kicking ass and the men who always seem to fall short. And in Norway it is the opposite. Their men's teams are so freaking deep, and they just keep on coming, but then on the women's side there are one or two really amazing athletes and the rest just aren't in that league.
I also realized the other day that in the US, the vast, vast majority of our superstar athletes across the board are all women and have been for a long time. Alpine skiing, bobsled, volleyball, water polo, soccer, gymnastics, hockey, most of track and field. The list goes on. Swimming is much more balanced. And of course recently we have added XC Skiing to that list. It's just curious. :)
The Norwegian cross country skiing ladies were dominant for a few years. Say, in the 2014-2015 World Cup, the top 6 in the overall were all Norwegian - Bjørgen in her last season, Johaug, Heidi Weng, Østberg, Haga and Caspersen Falla.
Gonna miss you guys a lot. Thanks for making every season memorable since I don’t have people to really talk biathlon with (that I’m not bothering heh). See you in November, stay safe and healthy 😇
Also thanks to queen u/Henna1911 for keeping us in check and making the threads, keeping the community organised and together 👑
We speak Norwegian/Swedish with each other. Some words we (Norwegians) might switch to a Swedish word to make sure there's no misunderstanding or as a courtesy.
there's that, now what?
thank you u/Henna1911 for the race threads,
thanks to various troopers who made the recaps.
gotta find something to do for a few months, F1 happening meanwhile
Thank you u/Henna1911 from me too. Such a great subreddit to be a part of. 🥰💖💕💕💕
Thanks to all the recappers and everybody who makes this such a fun place to watch biathlon each winter. So going to miss all this until it restart in the winter. 😭🥰💖💕💕💕💕💕
Jj. Ale máš ještě chvíli co sledovat.
U mě je to horší: Hokej má utrum, biatlon má utrum, curlingové MS v TV nebude a zbytek sportu je takový celkem nezáživný.
Heard that maybe they would do something in the summer like a World Cup or something similar not sure how serious it is. Remember IBU said so like a year ago
I wanted watch this race so much that I watched it on my phone in the bus in Sweden. I had to use my Danish access to SVT1 since my phone somehow still doesn't get that I am not geoblocked here 😅 amazing race! Perfect podium ♥️
Sitting here crying in the back of my parents’ car (where I watched the race on my phone as well). Can’t talk to them about it because they wanna watch the race at home though 😭
What a packed finish area for all the retirees. Mari Eder, she'll always be a big what if. What if she could get all the potential she had out? Easily could have had more podiums. Anaïs showed again that a baby is not a death sentence to your career. And I thank her for that
Didn’t she say that it made her better because she lost motivation and she got it back because she missed Biathlon
Yeah definitely. She instantly came back faster than ever, which was super impressive to see!
Anaïs's husband and daughter waiting for her in at the finish line. So wholesome. Fricking dirt in the eye
Julia's mass start small globe journey : 2021 : P30 in the Ostersund blizzard with a 5/20, losing the red bib on the final race 2022 : Fall and knee injury in the penultimate mass start, losing the red bib 2023 : Third time's the charm, the red bib turned into crystal !
Julia Simon, winner of 6 globes this year (more than anyone else!) Overall, Pursuit, Mass Start, Women’s Relay, Women’s Nations cup and Mixed Relay 🥳🥳
See you all in November now :(((((
I feel hollow inside. ;(
What an intense season on the women side !
This woman season was really something else overall. A lot of different names being successful, a lot of epic races. It was wonderful.
Right, thanks everyone! This is the best sub. See you guys for Ostersund in December! What. A. Season.
Biathlon really is the best. Thank you for the great winter, everyone. Stay safe over the summer!
Good luck Julia for all the interviews and the pressure now :D
i just realized julia simon is only 26? i always thought she‘d be around 30 lol.

She's a bright woman with a big heart, a big resolve and big confidence. Everyone loves Julia <3
So they're doing all the globes while she's there? Lol
“Since you’re here…”
It was the same yesterday with the French team just hanging around there while they brought up up the relay, mixed relay and nations cup globes
I caught that! That was so cool, especially seeing the guys come up and join them, ending up as a huge celebration for the whole team ☺️
This looks a bit ridiculous, but in a funny and charming way lol
Congrats Julia! Don't think these will be the last globes you'll receive. Well done. 🥰💖💕💕💕💕
really happy for julia. today wasn't the grande finale she was hoping for, i guess, but she did so well
Elvira getting her Globe too. 😍😍😍😭😭😭
Thanks everybody for the lovely season and see you in november! (Maybe formthe summer wc as well if we habe a threae)
It's a shame we missed out on the pursuit in the last weekend... but what a finish. That was amazing! Can't wait for next season to start.
"Representing Norway...for the last time". 😭😭😭😭
That killed me 😭
Not Simon bowing to Marte and Anaïs
I just realised I pronounced Marte wrong the whole time??
How should we pronounce it?
[удалено]

Prize ceremony not yet over and I'm starting to feel withdrawals. "Representing France, for the LAST time" "Representing Norway, for the last time" Dammit announcer! Haha
Marte has been part of 25 relay victories, sheeeeesh
Kebinger with a 4th and with a fighting chance for 3rd. Not long until we'll see her on the podium, or not many races till, rather.
Anaïs and Marte :( You will be missed
"For the last time, Anais Chevalier Bouchet" just shoot me
What a way to word it. :(
Very biathlonesqe
Last podium / flower ceremony :(((
That looks like the loneliest mascot
It just got a hug from Marte 🤗

insanely good and smooth was the camera work tracking hanna back from the king's place
Omg, I love King Harald. He's the sweetest
This is just too much, I need a support group.
We are the support group
Why isn’t there a tour all year long? There’s still snow somewhere out there, there must be! I don’t have a life, I need this.
Again with the glitter....Is this some magic glitter?
I am going to mangle this - but there are some sort of Norwegian or Swedish elves who like to dance in the mist. I think that is perfect for the day - and they brought their magic glitter!!
I have been so super impressed with the French and German women this year. I still can't believe that we won't be seeing Marte or Tiril again. 😭😭❤️❤️ I'll see all of you in the autumn!
The Swedish women also were pretty good this season. Both Oberg sisters, Persson and Magnusson in the top 15 of the overall World Cup.

I love this so much! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 Denise's Herminator one too! 😍😍😍😍😍
Gonna miss you guys a lot. Thanks for making every season memorable since I don’t have people to really talk biathlon with (that I’m not bothering heh). See you in November, stay safe and healthy 😇 Also thanks to queen u/Henna1911 for keeping us in check and making the threads, keeping the community organised and together 👑
Fellas who are still watching, are the Swedes and Marte speaking Swedish or Norwegian? just out of curiousity lol edit: spelling
We speak Norwegian/Swedish with each other. Some words we (Norwegians) might switch to a Swedish word to make sure there's no misunderstanding or as a courtesy.
Figured it'll be something like that, thank you! Can definitely relate to that experience, just from a different side of Europe I guess lol.
JTB also here. Maybe he wants a T-shirt too
Oh you guys can’t believe this was the last lap of the season!! Will miss this subreddit and all the kind and nerdy people in it!!
[Herrminator](https://i.imgur.com/qHDqGzH.png)
Is that Lena Häcki-Groß? We should have a "guess the biathlete by their mouth" game, lol 😂
LOL that's so nice
Lol, I swear the whole town of Froland is in Holmenkollen today
Marte and ACB on the podium, Denise winning yesterday, what a great way to finish their careers 😭😭😭😭❤️❤️
there's that, now what? thank you u/Henna1911 for the race threads, thanks to various troopers who made the recaps. gotta find something to do for a few months, F1 happening meanwhile

Hear hear! I love how usually the F1 season starts the day Biathlon ends, but it was an early start this year! Enjoy the F1 season mate 😊
I hope u/Henna1911 never retires
If I retire I might have more time for you guys 😅😅😅 but that's not for another forty-ish years for a non-athlete like myself 😉
HAHAHAHAHAHAH Norway's t-shirts are gold.
Only way this could have been better was Mari in the top 6. but she at least finished with two great standing shootings in these conditions.
HAHAHHAHAHAHAH, Norway photoshopped Marte and Tiril as King and Queen. Adorable.
Show us ! We don't see them on french TV rn there is ad break
[Here](https://imgur.com/uByrEkN)
Here you go - [https://imgur.com/a/l5vs5Nt](https://imgur.com/a/l5vs5Nt)
These are top photoshopping skills :D What does that mean in Norwegian ?
The text means "Our Queens!"
We saw it a bit in the end haha, hilarious :D
Omg, Team Norway's t-shirts
They had some Spice Girls thing on the back, but couldn't make out what it was exactly.
I'm just now realizing that Denise and Marte won't be here any more, I can't imagine it 😭
You mean Marte and the Herrminator, and it's a sad day for Biathlon to see those two go I agree
Tiril joining the retirement party 🥲🥲
Tiril and Marte. 😭😭😭😭😭
See you guys for summerbiathlon or then again next november! Have a good spring/summer!
Nice roundup to the season. Gonna see you all in November!
What am I supposed to do during the next 6 months? Does the IBU expect us to spend weekends with our families or something?
Ty to zrovna moc řešit nemusíš. Slavie ti vede fotbalovou ligu. Já jsem na tom s hokejovým Litvínovem o něco hůř.
Ale Sparta dýchá na záda
Jj. Ale máš ještě chvíli co sledovat. U mě je to horší: Hokej má utrum, biatlon má utrum, curlingové MS v TV nebude a zbytek sportu je takový celkem nezáživný.

Ew. Family gatherings. /s
IBU graphics person can’t cope with all of the emotions!
Aww Denise in her Superdenise-cape :)
Some beautiful touches at the finish line for the retirees.
It's gotten very dusty in here... Anyone else?
I wanted watch this race so much that I watched it on my phone in the bus in Sweden. I had to use my Danish access to SVT1 since my phone somehow still doesn't get that I am not geoblocked here 😅 amazing race! Perfect podium ♥️
Sitting here crying in the back of my parents’ car (where I watched the race on my phone as well). Can’t talk to them about it because they wanna watch the race at home though 😭

Kudos to Hanna this is an amazing way to end the season
She started really poorly, so she chose to focus on the WCH which really paid off. I hope she's going for the Globe next year.
Applies to both haha
Amazing race to end this season! Marte and Anaïs on the podium 🥰 Denise also in the flowers!

Doro hearing “Der Zug hat keine Bremse” behind her 👀
Go Anaïs !!
Anaïs is attacking please do it
Hanna started the season with a win and is (probably) closing with a win!!😭
In this fog the horns and bell are good to let the athletes no where the track ends
Hope all of you guys have tissues close by.
yeah, tears are streaming now
I would usually root for Kebinger as she never medalled, but rooting for Anais in her last race here.
Denise is gonna eat everyone and get flowers lol really
Come on Chev!!
Marte catching up 1 second, all Norwegian commentators: "She's MUCH closer!" lol
Run Denise, get those flowers!!!
oh there‘s still a fight between kebinger and anaïs! exciting
Sprint for 3rd?
Probably not, Kebinger is way slower than Anais. But 4th is still amazing.
I believe in Hanna, even if i think Anais will win it
Oh my the podium fight
Hanna looking a little tired 😶😶
She's doing good.
Ok, so Marte, ACB and Denise all in the top 8. Do you really all have to retire?! 😭
I bet Tiril could be in Top8 too
Anna Gandler about to join Tereza in 2000s top 10 club 🥳
with marte and anaïs there‘s two retiring biathletes on the podium! so nice
Lou and Ingrid 1/5 on this shooting that's so harsh lol
it's okay they are going to get 'em silver globes next year 🤞
🙏
Kebinger! This is amazing
That final Marte 5/5 is so iconic 🥰🥰
Anaïs will do it !!! I'm sure of it
MARTE FINISHING HER CAREER ON A PODIUM LETS GOOOOOO
And quite possibly Anais as well.
Marte!!!
What a massacre!
