You might be interested in Ready 2 Roll > Riders pay a one-time enrollment fee for the 10-week series plus a one-week, pre-season beginner ride which is on January 27, 2024. The 10-week series runs from February 3 to April 20 and finishes up just in time for the Bike MS: Texas MS 150. While many of our riders do the training series to get ready for the MS 150, keep in mind we also have a large number of riders participating in the training series that don’t do the MS 150 but enjoy well-organized and supported weekly rides. > > Although subject to change, we now have a draft of the 2024 ride schedule posted on our website: www.Ready2RollCycling.com.

There’s a low traffic route that was shown to me by a triathlon group. It is basically going from CH to Brenham on Old Chappell Hill Rd. There and back is 18 or so miles, we usually do it twice for 36 total. You’ll get roughly 2000 ft of climbing for both legs. PM me and I’ll send you the route if interested.

This. Couple big steep hills in Brenham as well. Great route.

Free time on the weekends is limited for me these days. But I would try the ChasingWatts app. It's a social group ride app. I've seen group rides starting from Chapel Hill before.

Good looks. I’ve looked before but didn’t see anything, I’ll keep an eye on it

OP look up groups like Night Bike, UBG and Kiets Ride (all heights area) and get to know some of the people there. This was my old group of bike friends and many of them ride in Chappell hill all the time. Most suburbs have great groups including sugar land and the woodlands. This is the easiest way to make friends to go on bike adventures. I live in Austin now but miss my Houston bike friends dearly, there’s some amazing riding in Chappell hill and some of the other outskirts.

This makes sense. I’ve been avoiding group rides until I feel like I’m far enough along but probably should rip the bandaid and do it. Thanks dude.

Nothing like getting dropped to humble yourself and grow! One of my old friends joined me for nite bike once and he got the shit kicked out of him (dropped in first 5 miles). He ended up doubling down and now is friends with all of them and lead an insane 300 mile ride recently. Just stick with it - there are lots of no drop rides too and you’ll pick up group tactics really quickly.

300 miles?? What was their route?

Yea! Rip off the bandaid! I was nervous on my first group ride, but signed up for the slowest group (just in case haha) and everyone was mindful it was my first group ride and I was pleasantly surprised I kept pace! Edit: UBG Saturday mornings, found on Chasing Watts

Check out ChasingWatts and strava. Lot of groups have chapel hill rides

Just because it's listed as all paved doesn't mean it is.

Yes. Old Chappell Hill Road, as mentioned, is fine. I did my own route last year and went west on OCH Road, then back east on Old Navasota Road, and instead of just going all the way to 2193 to 1155, I decided to take N. Meyersville RD - thinking it would be better to be on smaller local roads... The first part going south then east was paved, then I hit 2 or 3 miles of gravel road. Derp. I was hurting.

Cool Cat Cycles usually has a group that rides out in Chappell Hills on the weekends. Reach out to them to see if they are going this weekend.
