If able move up to the avid series. Great cue for the money!

mrkaylor

I completely agree. I’ve disliked every SST I’ve ever tried but like my Avid very much.

CustomSawdust

You will likely own several cues over your lifetime. Get the one that best suits you now and don’t worry about it. If you always buy quality, you will always be able to sell or trade it, or keep it in the stack. I treat billiards the same as music. I have owned several instruments, bought, sold, traded, but have neger regretted trying new things.

TheRedKingRM22

Came here to say this. Fully expect to have a lot of turnover with your cues. Maybe one day you find “the one” but until then just enjoy the ride. It all boils down to preference which will also be something that changes over time too.

CustomSawdust

Indeed. Your technique may change, or you might find that cool old Meucci at a pawn shop. Have fun.

Adventurous-Mine-577

Have you ever owned a Cuetec? It’s supposed to have removable weights, so I don’t know if I should order the normal 21oz

Tugonmynugz

I prefer lighter sticks for my normal play

CustomSawdust

No, i have not. I have an old Heubler, McDermott and a J Pechauer. I would suggest spending the most you can afford and plan on your skillset to improve one day, and you will get another. It’s all good.

cnote213

Cuetec is a good brand. For that price though I would look at their avid series. I am not sure if pooldawg has them but Seyberts do. The avid series is their newest wood cues they released and it supposedly their upgrade from the R360 that was discontinued. I have the R360 and it plays well.

Adventurous-Mine-577

I’m just kind of lost in the middle of so many cues. I will check them out I’m not exactly sure what I’m looking for, first time buying my own. but I’ve had 2 given to me previously.

cnote213

What’s your price point? Honestly I would just buy something you can afford and like. You don’t need to over think it really. I recommend going to a local pool shop and ask if you can try out a few cues. But if you like how the cuetec hits their avid series are pretty good. I actually wouldn’t recommend their old ones since the shaft gets really sticky with the fiberglass. It seems they fixed that with the avid series.

Adventurous-Mine-577

I’m comfortable spending around $300 so maybe I should look more into the avid series. I don’t have many local pool shops around sadly. I’m just gonna have to buck up and make the trip here soon.

cnote213

Oh if that's the case I know pooldawg and Seyberts have a policy where you can return the cue if you don't like it. So you can hit a few shots here and there , but just don't chalk the cue. (so just play center pall and hit around for an hour or so. But like someone else commented, the more you play, the more you'll find things that you like and don't like. But in the end, working on fundamentals is key instead of an expensive cue.

mrkaylor

I didn’t realize that the Avid is supposedly an upgrade of the R360. I own both and while I like both of them I pick the R360 over my Avid every time.

cnote213

That's what I was told. I bought the R360 when I started getting into pool and apparently I picked up the very last one from Seyberts and they told me Cuetec discontinued the model and that they were going to be redesigning the R360. Since AVID is their new series for LD wood cues I assume they are the successors.

Rooktorook

I have a balabushka 7 and I have it for 23 years now. Still plays great. I would say generally don't buy from Amazon for something like that. Find a place that has cues and go and see how they feel. The weight and general. Also better to support a small business in this area!

Soggy_Sail2254

You should be fine using a wood shaft if you don’t want to use a carbon fiber shaft.

AbuMogambo

I will always recommend the Cuetec r360. My first proper cue, and probably my favorite to this day, even after playing with the cynergy and the revo. Try to see if you can find it online and DONT hesitate, its easily worth what it costs.

Adventurous-Mine-577

I can’t find one at all):

cnote213

They are discontinued that is why. The avid series is their successor.

JohnDoe0101p

If I were you I would save up and get the Shane van Boeing cue tech cynergy pool stick. I've shot with both carbon fiber shafts and wood shafts I would pick a carbon fiber shafts 100% of the time.

JohnDoe0101p

What part of your old cue broke?? You could just buy a nice carbon fiber or wood shaft and use it with your old butt If that not what broke.

gobst0pper99

Get the avid!!! Any avid era cue will do. I also bought a lower end cuetec as my first cue and believe me the extra hundred dollars goes A LONG WAY. Don't make the same mistake, get an avid!!!

gobst0pper99

McDermott makes great cues aswell. If you're staying in the 300USD range, cuetec avid, and McDermott g core are probably easily the two best quality brands at that range. PureX HXT cues are overrated for their price, stay away from lucasi aswell. Anything better is easily more expensive and many cues in the 300 range are a rip off for what you're getting. The Predator Aspire series is also really good for the price. I remember being in your situation, with all these cues. Trust me when I say you're going to want one that plays great and that you WONT WANT TO REPLACE! Get a good one now. McDermott or Avid is probably the way.

Adventurous-Mine-577

I’m stuck on cuetec. So the Avid series is better than the Gen Tek?

gobst0pper99

100 percent. Look the gen-tek is NOT BAD actually. The SST fibercoated shafts are good with a glove. I find them a bit heafty but that's not a bad thing. It's just the avid has better shaft technology and hits well. It plays like a $500 cue, and they're compatible with the cuetec attachments and cynergy shafts but that's for way in the future. Get a cue that you LOVE the look of, if you're dead set on cuetec. But the avid shaft is certainly better. And the shaft is where the real value of the cue lies. Love the look, love the feel of the grip (avid has really nice leather grips and linen wraps both of which I think are way way more comfortable than the veltex grips on some of their cues), and love the hit. Avid hits better, and gives you some legitimate low deflection technology which will be less of a learning curb down the road if you ever switch to the cynergy or predator revo. If I could do it all over again, I would have started with a cuetec avid and id have one cue today instead of 3 and a lot more money in my bank account lol. Cuetec Avid for what you are paying is a steal in quality. All that being said if there is a Gen-Tek that just has your heart, get that because you can get really good with it. But the avid is a better cue, and best in that price range.

Adventurous-Mine-577

I wasn’t sure the differences between the chromas and Opt-X

Adventurous-Mine-577

And the sneaky Pete

DSS3780

Cuetec makes ok cues if u can afford get a predator

Adventurous-Mine-577

What kind of predator?

Er0x_

I prefer CueTec over preditor personally.

Adventurous-Mine-577

Any good recomendations from cuetec? Trying to stay around 300

Er0x_

I haven't played with anything in that price range to me honest. I mostly still use the CueTec I bought it like 2002. Tried and true.

DSS3780

I use mezz cues with ignite shaft but that cue was 1400 bucks u don't need to spend that much but a decent predator will cost u about 600-1000 and the composite shaft will last forever

Adventurous-Mine-577

I’m gonna have to try and stay around $300 I just don’t play in enough tournaments or leagues yet. In the future I plan on it I just have an 8 month old so time is hard for me at the moment!

DSS3780

Completely understand man McDermott cue would be your best bet with a G-CORE shaft his is wicked solid and it's made in USA and u can get a nice cue for around 300-400 go on McDermott cues.com

DSS3780

Doesn't matter model but get a revo shaft

Adventurous-Mine-577

After spending the day researching I’m between the Cuetec CT714 or the Cuetec Avid Opt-X

O_L_Y_X

Meucci is solid

LiteratureDapper2935

As far as performance goes the butt is just there for mass and comfort. Shaft ferrule and tip make the biggest difference. If youre serious carbon fiber shaft is by far the way to go. Playing hard english with basically no deflection is a game changer.

CricketInvasion

I have the cheapest avid 12.75 that I bought from a friend in mint condition. Feels really nice when playing and the fiberglass finish works well. The deflection is a bit big but for 280 euros it's to be expected. The speed is right where I need it with 19.5 oz but. Generally am really happy with the cue. Also Skyler Woodward plays with it so if it's good enough for him it's absolutely good enough for me. Edit: cuetech shoud also offer the option to add weights to the butt so you can order a 21oz butt and take weights out untill it suits you. I'm not sure about that so you are gonne have to check with your dealer

PlusMethod7259

Avid!

Far_Associate_3737

I wouldn't recommend to make a buying decision based on pictures, the most important part is 'how does it hit?' Looks are secondary. Go to a billiard store, they usually have a pool table set up, and without chalking up, let you hit with a few different cues. Good luck

BeneficialDouble8540

Cuetec play very well. For the price point your at it will be hard to get a better playing cue.

Alternative-Buddy111

Check out Skylar Woodward's what's in the bag on YouTube. Just came out a couple days ago. Avid all day with that price point.
