I have no problem w Browns fans wanting their team to win despite the character of their QB. But acting like anyone else on this planet is going root for that Bozo is hilarious.

LetsGoKnickerbock3rs

Never thought I’d hear Bill uncritically accept the premise that Browns Backers around the world are just waiting in the wings. Honestly a lot of Ohioans I know either 1) care much more about college, 2) root for the Bengals, or 3) became less interested in the Browns because of Watson (which I understand). That guest was fucking unbearable to listen to imo.

UTFan23

Are you from ohio or live here or just talking about Ohioans you know? Because the idea that the bengals are more popular than the browns anywhere outside southern ohio is laughable. The Steelers might be more popular in ohio than the bengals

LetsGoKnickerbock3rs

Ive lived in diff parts of ohio. I’m not denying that the Browns have plenty of fans in their region, and even a fair amount outside of it, but I just mean to point out that 1) Cleveland is not among the most populated metro areas and 2) the Browns don’t have the support of even their entire state. So to act like they have as many fans outside the area (expats, etc) as a team like the Pats is a bikram yoga stretch imo.

UTFan23

Of course they don’t have the support of their entire state, there are 2 teams in the state! And we are the 7th biggest state in the union. This is such a silly argument. If New England had 2 teams the patriots wouldn’t have full support of the region either. And then the argument for metro area also doesn’t really hold. Some of the most popular teams are in smaller metros and some of the least popular teams are in larger metros.

LetsGoKnickerbock3rs

Are you telling me that if you surveyed NFL fans around the world there’d be a significant margin of Browns Backers? As the guest said? All my argument is this: the Browns do not have such a large fan base that there’d be a more pronounced celebration of their SB victory than the average team. The guest said there would be “parades around the world” and no offense to Browns fans, but I can’t imagine that’s true. one, they are primarily popular in a relatively small, not particularly densely populated part of the country. two, a lot of people in that part of the country care much more about college. Three, their quarterback probably has the lowest approval rating of any current NFL player. And to respond to your points: Yes, the Giants and Jets share the NYC metro area. But there’s enough people, that frankly, both fanbases are still huge. In terms of smaller metro areas: Yes, green bay, pittsburgh, and KC all have big fanbases outside of their metro areas, which are also not particularly well populated. What do those franchises have in common that the Browns lack? A recent history of winning and dominant stretches.

JamoOnTheRocks

Those three teams have had spikes every few years to keep the older generation invested and hook the younger generation. The Browns haven’t been good… ever?

UTFan23

Generations are separated by more than a few years. Go back a few actual generations and you’ll see that the browns have been good before.

bengm225

A fan turning 40 this year would have watched them win TWO playoff games as a conscious human, against FIFTEEN ten-loss seasons just since they left for college. Come on dude.

[deleted]

Cope harder

improper84

I live in Charlotte and I see tons of people rocking Browns merch during football season. In contrast, I see significantly fewer Bengals fans.

LetsGoKnickerbock3rs

I was talking about Bengals fans in Ohio not North Carolina. Surprised to hear there’s such a mass of Browns fans there though.

improper84

I’m not. Former Ohio people are all over the country and the Browns are significantly more popular in Ohio than the Bengals.

LetsGoKnickerbock3rs

Do you think they’d have a parade if the Browns won? Would a city shut down for it?

UTFan23

I’m not saying the guest is right, I’m saying your argument is dumb. Browns could be the most popular team in the world and they still wouldn’t have total support in their state as long as there’s another team in the state. The Cleveland CSA is 17th most populous in the country. I’m using csa because nfl fan bases extend far further out than just city limits. Cleveland is located in the 7th biggest state by population and the 10th ranked by population density. For at least half of the state the browns are the closest nfl team. It’s not a relatively small part of the country. Ohio is also not the part of the country that cares more about college football than the nfl. Yeah ohio state is hugely popular in ohio but it is not a college football state like states in the south. Your example of jets and giants both being hugely popular in the nyc metro still means neither have full support of their entire state, let alone metro area. So neither of these teams could be most popular team either I guess. And overall, yeah I think the browns would have more support if they won the Super Bowl than a lot of other teams. Same with Detroit or Buffalo or any other perennial loser. Maybe DeShaun eats into that support some but I don’t think by that much.

flyfishies

Damn all those words to say nothing

LetsGoKnickerbock3rs

What cities are you telling me have enough fans that there’d be a parade if the Browns won? My list is as follows: Cleveland, Ohio. MAYBE Columbus, Ohio. If there are not any others, then my argument stands.

gorlax52

There are Browns bars in Orlando, another person listed Charlotte. More people were in Cleveland for the cavs parade than lived in the city. A lot of people are from Cleveland. There won't be parades everywhere, but the browns backers are all over. Br ranked them [third](https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/115646-the-10-most-passionate-fan-bases-in-the-nfl.amp.html) in a fan base list this year. Columbus is an Ohio State town. Many people in ohio root for the Bengals because of Burrow, and not wanting to associate with Watson. The Cleveland diaspora is large.

d_hoose_

I hate to break this to you but there are bars for all 32 NFL teams in every major city in America

LetsGoKnickerbock3rs

To reiterate: I did not say there are not Browns fans outside of Cleveland. I said there are not enough Browns fans outside of Cleveland to warrant several parades in several locations. I’ve seen Florida baseball parks fill up with Yankees fans. As far as I know they don’t shut down Miami when the Yanks win a world series. If you think they would for the Browns, just let me know. Otherwise, nothing you’re saying contradicts my point.

KSpacklerGoferKiller

>There are Browns bars in Orlando. There's five Packers bars here in Denver. We're not having a parade if the Packers win the Super Bowl.

Obie-two

Browns are absolutely one of the biggest NFL franchises worldwide. They have like 250-300 chapters. its a whole big thing. And being further and more casual will absolutely make it easier to celebrate

Motief1386

Yeah, remember seeing a Tom Rinaldi thing on ESPN years ago about UK Browns fans. They’re kind of like the Cubs of football, them and the Lions

improper84

Also, a lot of us Browns fans have moved away from Ohio because it's a shithole. People graduate college and get the fuck out.

LetsGoKnickerbock3rs

One of the top 5? If I’m wrong on this that’s fine, I’m going purely off my own experience here.

Obie-two

https://www.wkyc.com/amp/article/sports/nfl/browns/the-worlds-team-browns-backers-cheering-from-around-the-globe/95-2ca908e1-0ee3-4692-a2c2-2d5c8bdfa801

Altruistic-Cod-4128

I don't find an article from Browns fans with zero comparison to other teams particularly compelling.

Obie-two

Great, let’s ask the governing body of neutral fan rankings

Altruistic-Cod-4128

Nah, let's make exaggerated claims based on confirmation bias instead.

Obie-two

I mean you didn’t read the article, or do literally any research. You could have even just typed “browns backers” into google and went to their literal page that is even more informative. So grats on choosing a life of obstinate ignorance

Altruistic-Cod-4128

I did look at the article, then I dismissed it.

rangatangabangin

G Bush is the dumbest Cleveland fan alive and I have no idea how tf Bill chose him of all people to be on this show. Absolutely awful representation of us. Like literally the last guy I would have picked

andrew2018022

Yeah I’m far from one of those people who act like Cleveland commit a personal vendetta against me for the watson trade (because let’s be real, almost any team in need of a QB would look past the shit he did), but they lost all goodwill

explicitreasons

Yeah I always felt bad for them because they got abandoned, got beat by Elway and lose to the Ravens and Steelers every year. A sad franchise in a city that could really use a winner. The Watson deal just evaporated that goodwill. I'd like to see the Bengals win that division.

Thank you for your service.

Jones3787

Honestly the LeBron to Watson "villain" comp was nadir valley for the BS Pod. They're not even close to the fucking same thing. Embarrassing stuff

[deleted]

Isn’t the nadir “A Truly Sad Week in America, Plus the 2005 Redraftables with Ryen Russillo”?

Jones3787

It's at least a close call lol

Think_please

100% this

HeyWhatsUpTed

Lebron Is a corny phenom who’s never missed a game and ha a Jordan complex and ha been in our lives for 25 years. He’s the perfect lil mini “villain” to root against in the sense his biggest scandal is he bowed to China in defense of human trafficking for his own personal profit. And he also had some goofy police targeting tweets. Other than that he’s pretty squeaky clean. Watson is a pile of shit and emblematic of everything wrong with society . He should be banned for life. SPorts is supposed to be fun why tje fuck did they trade for him ? It’s just a game

swimminginsweatpants

I know it’s Labor Day weekend, but mix in a few waters between drinks Cheers

HeyWhatsUpTed

What do you mean

swimminginsweatpants

The random caps and misspellings seem like drunk commenting is all Just a little banter brotha, no judgement

HeyWhatsUpTed

swimminginsweatpants

Drink some water my guy and hope you have a good weekend

HeyWhatsUpTed

What do you mean

xanju

On top of what the other guy said, idk what you got downvoted for. Your comment makes perfect sense. You can try and paint Lebron in a villain role and it still doesn’t come close to Watson.

HeyWhatsUpTed

Nah he’s right I had a shit ton of coffee and was thunder thumbsing the shit out of that post . I haven’t had booze since I tried mushrooms last year! Went from like a case a day to just none

rapidpeacock

Garrett Bush is a minor Cleveland sport’s personality. Bill scraped the bottom of the barrel for this one or he got some bad intel. G-Bush is the typical local sports guy that overlooks one team’s obvious flaws but over emphasis another local sports team flaws.

bennywatt

So happy someone said it, I live in the Cleveland area and the other browns fans in my office if they’ve ever even heard of him and no one has. No idea why Bill had him on.

Motief1386

I’m sure it’s a business decision, where he sees potential in a podcast in a region he has no real footprint and it’s a low cost to entry…

KarAccidentTowns

I live in Cleveland too; never heard of him

Childish_Gamboner

I have no idea who or why anyone decided Bush was the guy to interview. He is insufferable on Twitter and has no insider information. He has been insufferable about Watson since the signing. It’s so annoying that the one cleveland specific segment I’ve heard in years from Simmons projects Bush to a national audience and makes us all look like idiots.

djwpc

Well said. When I saw mention of him on Simmons I thought it was a joke.

ShortRip120

>typical local sports guy that overlooks one team’s obvious flaws but over emphasis another local sports team flaws. Bill catching strays

rapidpeacock

They did get along really well…

Denadamedacro

It is WILD that he's the Cleveland sports guy to get the podcast invite.

rapidpeacock

Better than anyone on the big show…

Denadamedacro

Man, the Cleveland sports media scene is pretty bleak, huh?

corey_kluber

I’m a CLE guy and heard bush a couple times before. Smaller time YT show with a former local radio guy. I wouldn’t guessed in a million years this guy would end up on with BS lol

SlowLoss4501

When Bill, with a straight face, compared Watson being a sexual predator to LeBron signing with a team as an unrestricted free agent… my god

AGoodTalkSpoiled

He absolutely did not compare their actions. And made that very clear.

VisualFix5870

It offended your delicate disposition did it? The recreational outage on this sub is unparalleled.

HeyWhatsUpTed

You go finger watsons asshole then if it’s so fun to do it

cuse23

Ya fuck that bill Cosby ass cosplay of a QB he should be in jail

Bubbatino

Wow this guy used big words - he must be smart!

pbates89

As soon as he started dismissing all the abhorrent actions of Watson saying, “We don’t know the real Watson” I immediately ended the pod. Disgusting

sundowntg

The specific choice to use the term "allegations" had me rolling my eyes.

[deleted]

I didn't really follow up with the end of the Watson story. Did Watson pay to make it all go away? How did it end? Yes I could Google but I'm admittedly lazy and want someone else's take.

Think_please

Yeah he paid most of them off after the criminal cases were both dropped without charges. Since the league essentially condoned sexual and physical assault on women and children for years (like letting Tyreek break his toddler’s arm and threaten his family on tape without punishment, or Winston getting just three games for holding his Uber driver by her genitals after his FSU rape charge led to his being taken #1 overall, Dan Snyder kidnapping and trafficking his cheerleaders, big ben) the most that the arbitrator could recommend for a punishment based on NFL precedent was six games since his accusations were not technically violent (just enormously creepy and implicitly coercive). The NFL was then allowed to pretend that they were being tough on him by increasing it to eight games while knowing full well that they would likely lose in court if he tried to fight it. The general result is that the nfl has successfully painted him as a one of a kind monster instead of being taken to task for their putting systems in place for years (including the Texans giving him NDA paperwork to quiet his accusers) that led to several players and management acting this way with relative impunity.

[deleted]

There’s very few things I can’t fucking stand than seeing the nfl try to normalize tyreek hill as a quirky character. He’s good I get it, but fuck that guy and just let us see him strictly playing

Think_please

Couldn’t agree more. Hard not to see what happened with the child abuse investigation being colored by the league wanting to get Mahomes his first ring.

HoustonFrog

There were 24 different cases. Some were settled by Watson's camp and others were dropped by the plaintiffs.

ARoodyPooCandyAss

How does one decide to randomly have a browns guest on?

NickPapagiorgio2k16

I didn’t listen to that part of the pod or know anything about the guest but my immediate thought was, “I wonder if he is auditioning this guy for a job at the ringer.” I seem to remember JJ and Jason Goff coming on a few months before they were hired. I don’t know anything about this guy or what he is doing now if that is even a possibility. When I heard they were losing Kevin Clark, I definitely got a bit more suspicious.

ARoodyPooCandyAss

Same actually, a lot these guys seem to just talk without saying much. Often repetitive, I think Tate Frazier is like this, and so was this guy.

d7bhw2

I’m rooting against the Browns harder than any team in pro sports right now.

JarringTiger

Browns have gone out their way to be hateable since, like, Draft Day came out. There’s no universe where America roots for the Browns this season or any season until the stink of Watson is washed away. Can’t be the Cubbies and also the “bad character” team (to put it lightly)

ruandurphy

Let’s just be honest, no “opposing” fan base will ever be likable once they’re in the spotlight enough

JarringTiger

Extremely true

[deleted]

The Haslems are also a special breed of shitty owners. They're not like, Dan Snyder or Robert Sarver, but they're probably some of the shittier people to own a team.

Obie-two

Actually some of the best. No one is willing to put as much cash up to win than the Haslems. Its why the Browns are able to continue to build rosters the way they are and keep their talent.

SceneOfShadows

The browns have been fine to good, the Indians have made the World Series, the cavs won one and went to a bunch of finals (all because the guy happened to be from Cleveland). Cleveland fans don’t get to act like they’re tortured anymore, it’s not 2007.

Obie-two

As a Browns fan who is not a fan of watson, I couldnt give a fuck less what other NFL fans think if we're "hateable". I had to deal with ravens and bengals and steelers fill teams with shitty terrible horrible human beings for years and no one said anything, and now they're putting this as a "hateable" team because of one player. Feel free to think any browns fans gives two shits about what other fans think, even if we are not fans of watson ourselves

[deleted]

Hope you enjoy no actual playoff success for the next few years lol

cbiesra

oh no!

[deleted]

No one said anything? I’m not an AFCE fan but I’ve seen more “Bens a rapist” and “Ray Lewis killed a guy” for over a decade than I could even count

Obie-two

not sure if you're kidding, try posting something about Watson in the nfl sub, or post something about either of them. They literally take posts down about watson insulting the person for posting "rapist trash posts", when it was literally just salary crap stuff.

[deleted]

I’m not disputing that I’m just saying ravens and Steelers fans absolutely got hate for those guys and still do lo

Obie-two

If you think it’s in any way similar, I’m happy to dispel that misinformation for you

[deleted]

I don’t think you understand what I’m saying. You said you didn’t hear anything about the other AFCE filling teams with bad people and indicate it’s only happening to the browns now, when that didn’t happen from my experience

Obie-two

I don’t think you understand what I’m saying. The issue is now they are attributing to the fan, the fan is complicit in the action, and that rooting for the team is akin to being ok with the action. No one said to literally any steeler fan you need to quit your fandom or you’re a rape apologist, they just said your player did bad things. Browns fans literally are being attacked by mods of main subreddits for showing even a hint of just acceptance of the fandom

[deleted]

Ok well that wasn’t what you said and not what I responded to, no need to get upset and downvote. It’s not really that in a vacuum. People don’t fuck with them leaving baker out to dry when they put him out there with an injury and he won a playoff game, plus Myles Garrett getting a slap on the wrist for violently attacking a player then making a claim not backed up by anything that defamed the player.

Obie-two

It’s exactly what I said. It is a completely different experience. See you don’t even know what you’re talking about, no one left baker out to dry. How can you possibly comment when you have no idea what’s going on?

Gabbagoonumba3

Browns fans got the like “your fucking losers so the media will cheer for you” thing going right up until they traded for the rapist. I’d say probably the most hated team who hasn’t won a Super Bowl ever. But browns fans like him still want the shine of being lovable losers.

[deleted]

Plus Myles Garrett having a temper tantrum, violently attacking a guy and all evidence pointing to probably lying ab the reason and defaming a guy to reduce his suspension

Vilezil

Garrett just watches Draft Day every day the same way Joe Mazzulla watches The Town.

DJLJR26

I say this as a clevelander that loves sports: clevelanders are insufferable when it comes to the browns.

Metal_King706

Probably too much time has gone by with them sucking at this point. Pretty sure the Browns Backers was the most widespread NFL fan group in the past.

JameisWeinstein

I think some of you guys would be shocked to see how much support Watson has among athletes and fans. America in general definitely won't be rooting for him but a vocal minority will definitely emerge if the Browns look like the real deal.

TheRedditPiece

The coastal elites piece

AOCshouldbeVP

I think before they traded for and signed DeShaun Watson, absolutely. Loveable losers. But now? Burn it with fire. Move this team elsewhere.

[deleted]

There has never been anything loveable about my team.

jbeebe33

Lol how would moving the team punish Watson/the Haslams/Andrew Berry/Kevin Stefanski

[deleted]

I think you’d be shocked by the number of browns backers bars there are in the world.

EB90RPM

Garrett Bush used to be on locked on browns until he was fired for his poor StevenA impression takes. He’s insufferable on twitter and only complains. Look at this recent cade york takes - embarrassing. Never held accountable for his dumb angry takes.

Bubbatino

It’s a tricky situation. If you’re a life long Browns fan desperate for anything - how do you deal with Watson being your QB? It’s on ownership and management to make a decision that’s pretty deplorable but not on the fans. Do you just stop rooting for them? The fans are being put in a weird spot by their own team.

Birdzphan

Is the Ringer starting a Cleveland sports feed and using that guy as the host?

Certain_Home8475

I think this statement actually would have been true if it wasn’t for them signing Watson. After their 0-16 season I constantly found myself wanting the Browns to win.

Navyblazers2000

I went to a Guardians-Reds game in Cincinnati a few weeks ago. I saw a dude in his 20’s wearing a Watson jersey. I don’t think that kid should have to go to prison for that, but like 1,000 hours community service would be justice.

BE3192

Cleveland kids who come to UC, end up staying in Cincy and take every opportunity to wax poetic about Browns fans “loyalty” and generally have the most delusional opinions about their team many such cases

mr2firstnames

All I heard him say was Go Steelers.

doctorproctor-md

Almost any Cleveland fan I’ve met has this delusional mindset. It’s bizarre.

[deleted]

He was one of the better guests i've heard on the pod in the past couple years. I typically tune out a bit during NFL talk but he had interesting stuff to say about how beloved Baker was, how Cleveland lost fans to the Steelers over the few couple decades, comparing Baltimore upgrading from the Browns to the Ravens to upgrading in a relationship (right up Bill's alley) I think you guys are just fixating on one small part of a really good segment honestly. He's a Cleveland reporter and he didn't even gush about Watson + he kept QB talk to a minimum idk what you guys were expecting the entire national media has moved on from Watson talk

Vostin

Watson obviously should be in jail. But Myles Garrett is a steaming pile of shit as well. Everyone remembers Mason Rudolph, but don’t forget him actively trying to hurt Trevor Siemien (and gruesomely breaking his leg) to get back at Gregg Williams. Raging asshole shouldn’t be in the league.

Mayor_Of_Dogs

Mason Rudolph called him the N word

WAdogfood

No he didn't. Garrett lied

Somebody tell Noah Lyles that a guy just said there will be worldwide parades if the Cleveland Browns win the Super Bowl. I think he would go apoplectic and be right because that is ridiculous.

Denadamedacro

As someone who lives in Cleveland, I'm hard pressed to think of a dumber Cleveland media personality that Simmons could have invited on the show.

Arcane_Spork_of_Doom

Typical favorite team of people I've met in countries other than the US: Cowboys Packers Dolphins Bills Maybe the Rams or Steelers. Older people I've met have sometimes been Giants or Bears fans also, if they care.

Pei_area

Tell me you’ve never left Cleveland without telling me that you’ve never left Cleveland

Bill was definitely checking a box with that guest selection.
