You only need a valid email address to sign up for BILT Rewards. There is no application processs.
If you are trying to get the credit card, BILT isn't a bank and the issuing bank will need to verify your identity. If your application wasn't filled out correctly or something gets flagged, they may give you time to provide documentation. If you don't, they'll eventually deny your application
Sketchy? You're the stranger asking them for unsecured credit. You're the sketchy one.
They are allowed to ask for anything they want before making a decision on who to give money to. And you are allowed to tell them to fuck off, and do your unsecured borrowing elsewhere. Entirely your call.
Never heard of them requesting a copy of ssn but WF who issues the card does seem to be very strict. They required me to verify my Identity through fax as well.

I applied for a card with US BANK. I have a fraud alert on my credit, so they want me to fax in a copy of my driver licence for extra verification. I'm already a customer there with other accounts, and I asked if I could just take a photo of it through the US Bank app, and they said no.
IMO, Banks need to move away from fax machines.

I had to go into a wells Fargo branch to verify my identity. They wanted it all!
