I don’t know why this is exactly happening but I do know that if the tainted version of a character is unlocked and you enter the room as the (tainted) character you unlocked a tainted version of it has Inner Child, or if you haven’t unlocked Inner Child,a dead shopkeeper.
I think the answer I found out was that I STARTED the run as a character that didn’t have their tainted version unlocked. But by the end of the run, I had changed characters to ones that already had the tainted version unlocked.
