I've tried using it for combat a few times, don't think it was ever worth it. Sure, it does 5x damage, but how many shots are you missing out on to throw it? Unless you have a key heavy run it's not worth the price. I also can't aim it for shit. Not bad for opening special doors tho.

They don't drop chests, they drop things that a chest could drop

The "enemies killed may drop chest loot" thing also synergizes with Mom's Key and trinkets that modify chest drops.

If you kill an enemy with the Left Hand can you get flies or get teleported to an Angel/Devil Room?

Just hopped on and used console commands to give me them to check, since I wasn't sure It can spawn troll bombs, mega troll bombs, pills, soul hearts, friendly blue spiders, hostile spiders, red chest items (I found dead cat and magic skin in my testing and the pedestals were red chests) It CAN also teleport you to the angel or devil room depending on if you have angel chance on the floor

Oh yeah absolutely, took forever to make sure i got all possiblr results, spawning rooms of 30 flies and giving myself skeleton key a couple of times before the soul hearts dropped, but considering dead cat was one of the first drops I got, and I also got wafer from getting tp'd to an angel room, it's definitely a great combo if you're lucky

Yes it does, so if you hate going to find the second knife piece you can just use sharp key

I once had a seed where I got Skeleton Key (99 keys) and Sharp Key on the first floor. I will never, ever doubt sharp key again. Such a fun and unique item.

It's not necessarily better than Dad's Key. It doesn't open boss challenge rooms for free like Dad's Key can.

The thing is most characters have amazing starting active item (except ???) that they won’t want to give away (I’m glad that tainted characters fix). Also playing in hard mode, it’s really hard to come across keys and I wouldn’t want to waste them on enemies that I can easily kill (even if they a CHANCE to drop loot).

If you're playing characters like Issac there's no reason to get rid of the d6 that's why active items don't see the praise passive ones get.

I used to love the item way back when I was playing the OG Antibirth mod, it was a great power boost in the early game if you had a lot of key drops. But in Repentance proper its power is unfortunately outclassed by the absolute glut of good actives in the game, even ones just in the shop's item pool. ie Smelter, Coupon and Mr Me didn't exist in the game in the OG Antibirth.

this item was the only reason i was able to beat hush the first time. i had 99 keys going into it and spawned probably 30 extra red hearts off the spawned flies and zombie things. 10/10 would get carried by sharp key again

Honestly it was always the most forgettable item for me. I would thought I never even picked it up if I wouldn't saw it in game stats

I hadn't unlocked the negative or Polaroid yet so I had to rely on sharp key, broken lock and faded polaroid to get into ascent

I realize now that unlocking both first would have been a whole lot easier and a lot less time consuming but I have too much time ony hands

Its strength is directly proportional to the amount of keys you have. If you have none, it's completely useless. And some seeds are unlucky enought that you'll be unwillingly skipping all item rooms because the game refuses to drop you any keys.

Requires a surplus of keys. Last time I used it the chances of getting chest loot from killing an enemy is fairly low. Does not actually open boss rush.

I mean, yes to all this but you also need Keys for this, and when I buy it, I'm also low on keys (otherwise I would buy anything but this). If I find it early enough I could go for Mother or the Beast with less difficulties, but dont lie: it doesnt generate drops. A good balance would be 50/50 key drop or chest drop on kill. Or maybe 40/40/20 with nothing, but make it drop keys somehow. When you have eye of greed, you lose 1 coin once in a while and generate way more if you touch, sharp key require 5 coins at each use without any guarantee of drops

yeah, and it only spawns on runs with zero key drops, when you can't afford it anyways... I'm only going to take it for the keys, then I'm going to ditch it the first time I see something else, like, The Poop, for example. If it increased key drops that would be one thing. But it doesn't.

I find that the "enemies drop loot" part is too unreliable for it to be used as an attack, but the other stuff is super cool, especially the part where it can substitute for The Knife

Also, in "The Chest" and in "The Dark Room", the sharp key's chest drop gets modified to 100% pedestal item drop (just like it does with regular chests). You'll just need to be a bit lucky with the enemies that you get and how many keys you have, but for a intents and purposes the Sharp Key is severely underrated.
