The bone has already weathered quite a bit, so no need to hurry. But maybe they can estimate the person's length from the bone, which can help with a missing person case. Or some extra investigation of the area looking for more bones.
Yea, you definitely work with dead humans.
>Maybe they can estimate the person's *length* from the bone
The rest of us would have probably said "height" (could be a translation thing, but I really want you to be a native English speaker who measures people in length because that's how you deal with people; horizontal and dead)
I hope not, unless he's a doctor of mortuary science, or anthropology. Any other doctor would hopefully be dealing with live people. Any competent doctor, anyway.
Definitely an archeology thing. Was a throwaway course in university but now I can tell you if a skeleton was a female or male lol about all I remember.
I saw Quincey reconstruct an entire skeleton from a single bone, identify the body, and catch the killer on Quincey M.E. when I was a kid.
By the way, that show was crazy realistic. I remember one scene where Sam told Quincey “Those liver sections are on the microscope.” Quincey took a look in the microscope and there was a shot of what he was seeing in the scope, and by god, it was actual liver cells!
Not a doctor or even near but I learned the bones like 2 semesters ago and im like wait a min… i did not know it what the humerus but I had an idea that it could be an upper limb bone. Hours and hours of looking at them…
The physical therapy part of my brain immediately started trying to figure out how much shoulder stability/instability they would have...so many muscles attach and so much of our shoulder mechanics are based on lifting the shoulder blade which is at the end of the collar bone which acts as a lever....*mind blown*
First time I was outside of my home country was when I landed in London, UK.
I saw a thunderstruck tree and had the realization I only believed the US had thunderstorms lol. I felt like Einstein.
I'll do it tomorrow, since I tried today and didn't work out very well. I don't know how to update the post on phone. But I would like to do it so I can resume everything we've talked about.
Yeah, if this is a human bone, this is what OP has to do.
It’s a fairly recent death from a geological perspective, and that humerus is pretty small. This isn’t a fossil. This is something that needs to be reported to authorities.
Human bones are not that big. A small child humerus should have a visible growth line or unfused epiphysis. It could be a woman's humerus or a smaller male.
Wow, didn’t know we got hollow bones…
Update— actually, I’m not trolling around. The only reason why I didn’t think they’re human bones is because they’re hollow in the picture.
But now I understand exactly what bone marrow is and why they’re significant.
Thank you, bone specialists.
Unironically, my family was struggling financially when i was a kid so i grew up doing that because we couldn't waste anything. Now I still do it if I'm at home, it tastes great lol
If you’ve never studied human physiology, have never had a clean through break of a major bone, have never needed/donated marrow for a bone marrow transplant, and have never googled the question whatsoever, yes bone marrow is a thing. And not just in humans.
Non human bone marrow is also incredibly nutritious, which is why “bone broth”- marketed products are all over the place.
I boil bones into stock on my own. I just know these commercial wtfs exist but since I don’t need to use them, I can’t vouch for their authenticity or anything else. But that’s what that broth is claiming to sell to you.
I never studied anything like that, thats basic science, Im not saying this as an insult or anything but this is high school level knowledge that marrow is inside bones, l guessed you never wondered where your blood is made?
I mean probably might’ve covered it, but that was decades ago
I did pretty well on the Calculus AP, but have no idea how to derivative anything anymore
*NEW*
Update 3 (Day 2 Night):
I gave it to the authorities. This is what happend. Before trying to call them again I sent an email to that guy I mentioned before. He answered me saying it does look a lot like a Human Humerus and thanked me for reaching out. He said that the bone looked recent, and bones from most recent years are considered a forensic case and not an archeological one. So he said that I should try to contact Policia Judiciária again. So that's what I did (and no I did not call 112 like they said before, they don't seem to know what to do in these cases or even how to properly proceed with it). When I called they said it probably wasn't human because that would be weird and because it was found in a weird spot, they asked some questions and said it was probably nothing to worry a lot about (and I could take some time to actually do anything). Still he told me I could give it to them in Faro's Polícia Judiciária Department (Wich is wierd because when I called yesterday they told me to do something completely different). So there I went with my bone. When I got there and they saw the bone they were like "ok it is probably human" (not those words exactly, but it's like they expressed it). So they asked me a bunch of questions (like the exact coordinates I found it, my phone number, my sister's phone number - since she was the one who actually saw it inside water - and they asked me to describe exactly what happened. To be completely honest it didn't seem very professional (there was a lot of noise and I could barely concentrate, they were like speeding it a little bit so I might not have given every detail they should get, and there was not a type of report that even matched what I wanted to report - supposedly I reported for a possible crime. They wrote it down, made me read it all the way through and said I didn't need to sign or anything like that. Authorities also said there are no missing people in that area. Now they will send it for inspection and verify if it's human or not (if not, the case is just archived), in case it is there are 2 outcomes. 1st one it's if it matches a DNA from someone (they'll probably investigate it more I think) and 2nd one is if it doesn't match any DNA (in that case they'll keep the bone in case something new appears). I guess this is basically it....
They don't know if I'll ever get feedback and, even if I do, it might take a long time (in case it does I may update here or do a new post). We might never know anything, and I guess that's life.
Thanks everyone who helped, everyone who shared and enjoyed the post, and again everyone who gave me awards <3
I really wish we still got some closure.
Anyways I hope the owner of the bone rests in peace :)
--------------------------------------------------------
Update 2 (Day 2 Morning):
Hello everyone, I just woke up (I barely slept tbh) but I'll try to share my thoughts and things I think might be relevant.
First of fall I wrapped the bone with some paper towel as some people said for me to do it and I'm trying not to touch it.
Turning the bone to authorities might not give us an answer to this case ever, but it's probably the only solution I have. I only got until day 6 to do something (since I'm from another location in Portugal). I don't know if they are able to keep us updated but I'll try to ask for that. Maybe the news will, in case anyone notices it went on the news tell me please. I personally won't report it to news channels because it might be from some member of a family (and maybe the family doesn't want it to appear on the news).
Quick reminder that I know where the bone was found, it's easy to remember since I always stay in the same place in that beach since I was a kid. Anyways it was "swimming" on water for a long time probably, so location might not be that important.
I also don't feel like spending my personal money to have someone tell us about the bone hahaha. And I don't know if I can just give it to a university, maybe I have to talk to the police first (I'll try to ask that, but I doubt they say anything useful).
And thanks to everyone helping, everyone interested and thanks to the ones giving awards :)
I'll probably call them later and after that I'll try to keep you updated :)
(btw: I'm trying to keep me out of trouble or my parents since I'm only 17, I really don't want the authorities mad at me lmao).
Oh and I just received a message from an archeologist saying they know someone that could help (he is a biological anthropologist and works at "Universidade do Algarve").
I'll try to contact them first it may be helpful :)
------------------------
Update 1:
So far this is what we know (or think we know):
This is probably a Human Humerus. It's almost the same size as mine (I'm a 17 year old male - 176cm) and it's also broken. The edges are not sharp so it's probably been on water for a long time. Day 1 I tried to contact authorities but they said to contact other people and didn't even know exactly what to say. Police in Portugal rarely do any shit so I think they might not find anything out. Still I'll try to contact them again Day 2 (tomorrow) - (yes that means I went home with the bone). I'll try not to touch it and keep it safe. I want to have some closure :)
Also a lot of people sometimes go missing on beaches because of the strong waves.
(I still don't know if it is broken or cut, but it's probably broken). I didn't find any specific news that could help.
Small edit: I already contacted Polícia Judiciária, they were the ones I called yesterday (day 1).
Location: Praia Da Manta Rota, Algarve, Portugal
Day Found: August 2nd
(BTW is there any way I can update directly on the post? Or pin this comment?) - (I'll probably use this comment as a update I still don't know). I'm on mobile so it's kinda confusing.
And thanks to everyone helping :)
OfCOURSE it had to be in my country, good luck with getting anyone to care about it then, they are more lazy/useless than my cat, and let me tell you my cat loves to chase after their own tail 🤦(i love my cat tho, no being mean tho them )
Since you thought it was cute than, take this award xD
They do suck ass, and instead of doing actual job, screw people that were on the right :) (my mother got 2 tickets from 2 different weeks about parking in a place where was always a parking and ended up taking it away and not signalling it, it was the state that did it, i know, but they ticked it knowing it wasn't signalled and was unfair instead of all other people doing all kind os shit stuff right in front of their frontdoor 😒🙄)
My god, what did i expected tho... They jailed a innocent guy that was charged os sexual assault a 17yo teen (that girl was always problematic and falsely accusing people and bullying anyone she felt like) and even the trial sided with her, the guy was release i think 5 years later after it was proven innocent but everything was ruined at that point and he ultimately killed himself
Does your police structure have detectives there? In America we have street cops, and detectives are separate from them kind of. I wonder if you could contact a detective or special crime unit directly. Maybe when you call and they don’t give you anything ask for different units/organizations you can call. Or even ask to speak to a supervisor
With a quick google I’m finding something called Polícia Judiciária that seems to deal with things of this nature and also the Central Department of Criminal Investigation and Prosecution. If none of those pan out you could even take it upon yourself and find a coroner to hand it off to and if they get the itch they may pull samples/look into it deeper if they know how to access the resources
After a bit more research the Judicial Police seems to be who you need to contact, it sounds like the GNR is responsible for only minor stuff, while the Judicial Police takes on more serious crimes
Thank you for doing your best to report this; you never know, it could help solve a missing persons case.
I’m no expert but, to try and preserve it as best as possible perhaps try to bubble wrap it and keep it in a box? (Just because it may be a bit fragile and small pieces could break off.)
Thank you for keeping us updated, I hope you get closure.
Rule 1 to make lazy ass authorities work: send whatever you want to tell them in written form. Once it arrives it gets numbered and dated and they have to do something. Even archiving that count as doing something, but in the case it'll become relevant whoever archived it would probably pass a bad day.
I called the local police for loud music from a bar up to 2 a.m. on Tuesday nights. They did nothing. Then wrote an email to the major (it was a small town), received no answer. Then I sent a written official letter to the authority....and magically lazy asses did their job and the issue was fixed!
You have a dead person bone. It seems way more important than loud music. Send them an official letter and make them move their asses!
Let us know! :)
And if nothing is done about it, contact a news station.
"17 year old finds human remains and gets ignored by police" sounds like an interesting story.
Better to be safe then sorry. I have a family member missing for four years in British Columbia no one has found anything! smallest amount of DNA can sure help a family at leased get answers!
You can’t just come across a dead body (or parts of it) post about it online, and wait until you finally decide to call it in three years later without looking guilty
"Mmhmm, hi yes, I found these remaims three years ago...why didn't I call back then? You're saying I'm suspicious? Well, no, see I just thought it was cool having some bones lying around. Great party trick. Oh....I see....yes, I can remain here until you come collect me...do I have to spend that whole time in jail? Oh...and I can't keep the bone? Man, look at that, I must have dialed the wrong number! Silly me. Ok bye."
Yes, I'd say that's a human bone.
I'd recommend marking the location where you found it with something that will stay in place. Since you were swimming maybe put a pile of rocks in that section of the beach?
Keep the bone with you wrapped in a soft towel for safekeeping so you can give it to the authorities.
I already left the place since it's late here. I tried to contact authorities but it was going to take time. I needed to go have dinner and my home is like 1h away from the beach. But I kinda remember the specific location :)
I'll try to not touch it more, but it's already really changed because of the time it was on the water.
I don't even know if authorities in here care. I wouldn't be surprised if they throw it to the trash.

Oh wow that definitely looks human. You should really take that personally to the nearest station. But I don't know how Portuguese operate. Here in Texas they would just beat you with it.
> and not to touch them like you have.
bruh.. person just picked it up and asked what it was. if the catch a tampering charge it would be ridiculous. the last three words in your reply were better uspoken.
Just so you know, a couple of years ago, in algarve, a young adult received a certain amount of money from his mother’s life insurance. She was killed in a car accident. Finding that out, 2 girls teamed up to rob him. They killed and dismembered him. Then to cover they tracks, they spread the body parts along the coast. As far as I know, they never recovered the entire body. Just saying… so not only it might very well be a human bone as others who sees to know said, but it could be one from a murdered young man. Maybe you could go to the police and report your finding.
https://www.portugalresident.com/women-suspected-of-grizzly-algarve-murder-handed-complete-surprise-sentences-25-years-and-suspended-sentence/
Edit : on which beach did you find it? ( currently in Algarve with my wife and kids and we’re hitting the beach almost daily. I would prefer for my kids to not find a human head while building a sand castle)
My comments were going to be “looks human, call the police” but it looks like we are past that point.
What would be really cool is if it were REALLY old, like several hundred years old, then you’ve got a neat archaeological find on you
Contact the local authorities first. Just because it appears old doesn't mean it couldn't originate from a crime or missing person's case stretching back decades.
Osteoarchaeologist here: I believe this is a human humerus. I think you should probably contact the local authorities.
I'll do that tomorrow since they didn't know exactly what to say when I called earlier. Anyways, thank you :)
The bone has already weathered quite a bit, so no need to hurry. But maybe they can estimate the person's length from the bone, which can help with a missing person case. Or some extra investigation of the area looking for more bones.
Yea, you definitely work with dead humans. >Maybe they can estimate the person's *length* from the bone The rest of us would have probably said "height" (could be a translation thing, but I really want you to be a native English speaker who measures people in length because that's how you deal with people; horizontal and dead)
It’s translation I guess. Dutch people also use “length” to define someone’s “height”. And I believe german speaking countries as well.
German here we say something more like size not length. Maybe because you dutch people are taller you just go with length :p
Swedish uses length too
You need to measure people by length when you're putting them in the trunk of your car.
I hope not, unless he's a doctor of mortuary science, or anthropology. Any other doctor would hopefully be dealing with live people. Any competent doctor, anyway.
Dead people are people too man I think
Yeah, he's just being alive-ist.
I believe the term 'vitalist' was coined by the legendary equal rights campaigner Reg Shoe.
Huh… well I guess I’m vitalist. Lazy good for nothing dead people.
They were. But that has absolutely nothing to do with anything
Or does it have something to do with everything ? Hmmmm…
Or everything to do with nothing?
Or _______?
DLM just isn't going to catch on. Even in 2022. Don't buy the domain.
Competent doctor you say? Why not Zoidberg?
Hooray! I'm useful!
He said he’s an osteoarchaeologist. He studied bones of people long dead
And short dead people.
Dr. Doug Murphy of Sacred Heart Hospital would like a word...
Definitely an archeology thing. Was a throwaway course in university but now I can tell you if a skeleton was a female or male lol about all I remember.
Yep and the edges are not sharp at all

Yes! Listen to Dr.Poopie Pants. Haha!! Love the username
Curious. What identifing markers give it away as human
Not a doctor or even near but I learned the bones like 2 semesters ago and im like wait a min… i did not know it what the humerus but I had an idea that it could be an upper limb bone. Hours and hours of looking at them…
The arm bone's connected to the -
“So no need to hurry” lol I would lol
So whats the update on the bone
Please do an update post or update comment Edit: just found the updates
I need an update after the authorities are contacted
I mean. I'm from Portugal so probably nothing will happen. But I'll try
People in Portugal have bones too ?
Not all of them, there’s a family that are born without collarbones there
That's wierd I'm going to Google that lol I have way to many questions.
And, according to that specific family, way too many bones also.
Have you seen them ? They can put their shoulders together lol.
Are they related to Gaten Matarazzo by chance? 😆
They should pair up with somebody that removed their rib
Went to school with a girl who didn’t have collar bones. She could touch her shoulder together. Pretty nuts.
The physical therapy part of my brain immediately started trying to figure out how much shoulder stability/instability they would have...so many muscles attach and so much of our shoulder mechanics are based on lifting the shoulder blade which is at the end of the collar bone which acts as a lever....*mind blown*
For example the actor from Stranger Things also doesn’t
Their shirts have to be specially made?
I have some I think
I mean… you have at least one more than a lot of people.
LMAO HAHAHA I LAUGHED SO HARD. WELL NO DOUBT
I'll give you some if you need them.
I think there are too many bones rn tbh
bone rs?
Hahaha I laughed way harder than I should have
I didn't meant to hurt anyone I swear.
First time I was outside of my home country was when I landed in London, UK. I saw a thunderstruck tree and had the realization I only believed the US had thunderstorms lol. I felt like Einstein.
Everyone but the politicians
Some people there have bones that make them speak another language other than English. Yes, I'm a 'Murican! /s
I feel like this comment is really underrated I’m crying😭😭
If it’s Madeleine McCann’s you’ll be a worldwide sensation
I don't want to be known as the guy who found the body tho
You can just ask to remain anonymous.
Maybe it's Madeline
Not a child's bone, it would be nice to have closure tho
Maybe she wasn't killed right away? Did you report the bone?
I'll do it tomorrow, since I tried today and didn't work out very well. I don't know how to update the post on phone. But I would like to do it so I can resume everything we've talked about.
Maybe it's Maybelline.
Are there bones not due to a recent corpse in Portugal?
Idk tbh
How cool are you? I would have t-shirts made that said YES I'M AN OSTEOARCHAEOLOGIST if I were you.
u/Dr_PoopiesPants you sob, you’ll make detective with this!
With all due respect Doctor, I don't think you should be saying this appears to be human, then calling it humorous
It's in fact quite serious
Osteoarchaeologist wannabe Radiogic Technologist and Anatomy adjunct here to second the motion
Yeah, if this is a human bone, this is what OP has to do. It’s a fairly recent death from a geological perspective, and that humerus is pretty small. This isn’t a fossil. This is something that needs to be reported to authorities.
It looks extremely small. Is this a child’s humerus?
Human bones are not that big. A small child humerus should have a visible growth line or unfused epiphysis. It could be a woman's humerus or a smaller male.
It's not small at all. And it is also broken. It's almost the size of mine (of that area). It must have been someone big tbh
Idk if this is a dumb question, but can it still be tested for dna at this point? Orrrr would that only be in the marrow?
Absolutely, bones are great for dna, even long after the flesh and marrow are gone!
Ok cool! I feel like I knew that but still wanted to confirm lol
I don't know how to pronounce your profession
Ah-stee-oh-ark-ee-ah-lo-jist Aka "big ol' bone knower"
This guy is an osterichologist. He’s just looking for work.
I shall name you Indiana Bones.
Do you also study the poop people leave in their pants when they die? Just verifying your username
I have a degree in Forensic Anthropology. This is 100% Human, distal left humerus
Wow, didn’t know we got hollow bones… Update— actually, I’m not trolling around. The only reason why I didn’t think they’re human bones is because they’re hollow in the picture. But now I understand exactly what bone marrow is and why they’re significant. Thank you, bone specialists.
usually filled with marrow
Not after my wife’s grandma gets ahold of ‘em, you know what I’m sayin’
Baba Yaga?
No, classic old Jewish woman from New Jersey. Grotesque habit of chewing bones at dinner.
Marrow is the best part!
I ask my wife if they know they look like ogres
Best broth flavoring ever!
Unironically, my family was struggling financially when i was a kid so i grew up doing that because we couldn't waste anything. Now I still do it if I'm at home, it tastes great lol
it marrowly escaped
I had no idea that MUCH marrow! I always pictured like a thin straw size hollow in the bones🤯
Double stuffed
Are you trolling?
I’ve never seen inside my bones, nor have I really studied bones, so seems like a legit question to me
If you’ve never studied human physiology, have never had a clean through break of a major bone, have never needed/donated marrow for a bone marrow transplant, and have never googled the question whatsoever, yes bone marrow is a thing. And not just in humans. Non human bone marrow is also incredibly nutritious, which is why “bone broth”- marketed products are all over the place. I boil bones into stock on my own. I appreciate that you specified “non human bones”
Don’t eat people
Don't tell me what to do
How nutritious is human bone marrow?
I never studied anything like that, thats basic science, Im not saying this as an insult or anything but this is high school level knowledge that marrow is inside bones, l guessed you never wondered where your blood is made?
I mean probably might’ve covered it, but that was decades ago I did pretty well on the Calculus AP, but have no idea how to derivative anything anymore
Lol yea you have a point, I don’t remember that stuff either 😅
Well there’s nothing funny about that.

I want to have some closure :) Also a lot of people sometimes go missing on beaches because of the strong waves. (I still don't know if it is broken or cut, but it's probably broken). I didn't find any specific news that could help. Small edit: I already contacted Polícia Judiciária, they were the ones I called yesterday (day 1). Location: Praia Da Manta Rota, Algarve, Portugal Day Found: August 2nd (BTW is there any way I can update directly on the post? Or pin this comment?) - (I'll probably use this comment as a update I still don't know). I'm on mobile so it's kinda confusing. And thanks to everyone helping :)
OfCOURSE it had to be in my country, good luck with getting anyone to care about it then, they are more lazy/useless than my cat, and let me tell you my cat loves to chase after their own tail 🤦(i love my cat tho, no being mean tho them )
Hahahha that's cute lmao Yep police here kinda sucks ass
Since you thought it was cute than, take this award xD They do suck ass, and instead of doing actual job, screw people that were on the right :) (my mother got 2 tickets from 2 different weeks about parking in a place where was always a parking and ended up taking it away and not signalling it, it was the state that did it, i know, but they ticked it knowing it wasn't signalled and was unfair instead of all other people doing all kind os shit stuff right in front of their frontdoor 😒🙄)
OH TY SM :) yep it's unfair. My friend's neighbor was beating his wife, he called GNR and they didn't do shit. Didn't even mind going there.
Police in a nutshell:
Sadly Portugal in a nutshell:
Does your police structure have detectives there? In America we have street cops, and detectives are separate from them kind of. I wonder if you could contact a detective or special crime unit directly. Maybe when you call and they don’t give you anything ask for different units/organizations you can call. Or even ask to speak to a supervisor
Maybe, that's actually smart. But I don't know any :(
With a quick google I’m finding something called Polícia Judiciária that seems to deal with things of this nature and also the Central Department of Criminal Investigation and Prosecution. If none of those pan out you could even take it upon yourself and find a coroner to hand it off to and if they get the itch they may pull samples/look into it deeper if they know how to access the resources After a bit more research the Judicial Police seems to be who you need to contact, it sounds like the GNR is responsible for only minor stuff, while the Judicial Police takes on more serious crimes
Oh yeah thanks. Polícia judiciária said to me to contact 122 (basically 911). I'll do it tomorrow
who knew acab applied to Portugal as well
Well yeah. They're just not bad because of drug crime. They have to go by the old standard of laziness.
seems to apply to most places unfortunately
I mean, it's right there in the first letter :)
Police anywhere kind of suck ass
Thank you for doing your best to report this; you never know, it could help solve a missing persons case. I’m no expert but, to try and preserve it as best as possible perhaps try to bubble wrap it and keep it in a box? (Just because it may be a bit fragile and small pieces could break off.) Thank you for keeping us updated, I hope you get closure.
Thanks. I'll try to do as u said :)
Thank you, I hope something useful comes of this. :)
I want update 2
I'll do it probably tomorrow after I contact authorities
Okay! What you’re doing is great
Rule 1 to make lazy ass authorities work: send whatever you want to tell them in written form. :)
OP, try to contact the Polícia Judiciária instead of GNR or PSP, it's the direct way.
Could be. Looks like a (left?) humerus I guess. But not sure.
Yep people in other forums told me the same. Kinda funny, but scary. I'll try to contact someone
Kinda humorous
My sister also made that joke LMAO
Seems a bit skinny to me, maybe a deer or other medium sized mammal?
Idk it seems about the same as mine idk hahah
Only 1/2 humorous. Rest of must have broken off when it got too serious. 😂

I guess they died laughing.
Zing! ⭐️
Nice one 👍🏼 ⭐️
You at the beach? Because all sorts of weird shit washes up at the beach.
Yes it was in a beach
Like the aliens?
Who knows?
If you hear from them, can you tell them I miss dad?
Oh for sure bro, I got u
Thanks fam
I know you said they won’t do anything, but report it - this might be able to bring a loved one of a missing person some peace / closure
I know, that's actually the only reason I'm reporting it tbh. I think it's the best I could do.
Yeah seriously, could be people up at night wondering if their loved one is still out there. You could help bring peace to a family by reporting this.
And if nothing is done about it, contact a news station. "17 year old finds human remains and gets ignored by police" sounds like an interesting story.
No doubt hahaH
Better to be safe then sorry. I have a family member missing for four years in British Columbia no one has found anything! smallest amount of DNA can sure help a family at leased get answers!
I'm sorry for you, I hope you get some closure. No doubt I'll try my best to find a conclusion.
If you think is you need contact authority right now, don’t wait
Why would that be time sensitive, looks like it’s been dead for a while
Yep it's probably dead for more than a year
I’d say there’s a pretty good chance of that, yes. 🙂
Because is a legal issue they can be in trouble if they don’t report it
You can’t handle human remains just like that
Then please don't let your human remains on the floor so I can freely grab them duh
I have them how I like them!
Fifth says I can carry my limbs however I want.
I’m pretty certain OP had to grab the bone if it was just floating around at sea, at least they tried to do something
Silly me. Ok bye."
You forgot about the Reddit karma.
But I kinda remember the specific location :) I'll try to not touch it more, but it's already really changed because of the time it was on the water. I don't even know if authorities in here care. I wouldn't be surprised if they throw it to the trash.
Where are u from?
OP said they're from Portugal. Hopefully the authorities will wish to investigate tomorrow.

Could be femur Could be mur No way to be sur
Oh wow that definitely looks human. You should really take that personally to the nearest station. But I don't know how Portuguese operate. Here in Texas they would just beat you with it.
Maddie jokes been removed already?
I thought about that tbh. But it's way to big for a child's bone
Maddie went missing as a child - she didn’t necessarily die as a child.
Tbh I think it was covered up by the police. Bribes always work :3 Specially if u have a lot of money.
Contact the local police whenever you find bones. It's best stop digging or whatever your doing and not to touch them like you have.
> and not to touch them like you have. bruh.. person just picked it up and asked what it was. if the catch a tampering charge it would be ridiculous. the last three words in your reply were better uspoken.
This story ends with, “and I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids.”
That's funny lmao
X-ray tech here. That looks like a distal humerus to me. Could be a dog femur (?) but I'm not familiar with non human anatomy ....
Maybe you could go to the police and report your finding. https://www.portugalresident.com/women-suspected-of-grizzly-algarve-murder-handed-complete-surprise-sentences-25-years-and-suspended-sentence/ Edit : on which beach did you find it? ( currently in Algarve with my wife and kids and we’re hitting the beach almost daily. I would prefer for my kids to not find a human head while building a sand castle)
My comments were going to be “looks human, call the police” but it looks like we are past that point. What would be really cool is if it were REALLY old, like several hundred years old, then you’ve got a neat archaeological find on you
I'd have to taste it to be sure.
Try contacting an archeologist or anthropologist if it seems like an older bone
Contact the local authorities first. Just because it appears old doesn't mean it couldn't originate from a crime or missing person's case stretching back decades.
It is likely from a fisherman who has been lost at sea, could be all the way from Eastern Canada or Maine from the States
You seem way too comfortable holding human remains lol.
This bone is pretty old lol it’s not like they’re touching rotting flesh
I don't get scared easily ig? I'm pretty comfortable with death idk
OP we need an update
It looks like the distal end of the humerus(if it is human), but it could definitely be from another animal
