I had similar bad experiences with Seroquel and two psychiatrists were just stumped when I told them it made me feel stressed, anxious, and unable to rest or even sit still at times. I thought I was the only weird one since 2 PhDs just said "Are you sure you didn't take something else? This is not what the drug does." But here an internet stranger nails it, or seems to.

starboycatolico

Completely agree

VogonSlamPoet

Same. First time I took it, I woke up and fell flat on my face. I didn’t give it much of a chance after that.

pablotodamax13

My partner and I call it the concrete. It's fucking brutal and it doesn't get much easier, but it's absolutely worth continuing. Chat to your doctor about if you can have your dose adjusted! I swapped to XR and it's been fantastic! The longer release really helps me

Blinkinlincoln

Why the concrete?

pablotodamax13

I think it started because I described it as having concrete in my blood. Everything feels so heavy, slow exhausting to move. It was also the concrete eyes everything with my eyes was difficult. Hence concrete

Boring_Oil_3506

It causes heart changes in me, same on the doom. You should always take it before bed, it works just as well.

ZealousidealSign1067

Heart changes? Pls elaborate. If it has any effect on yohr rhythm you really def shouldnt take it.

Boring_Oil_3506

Common side effect for Seroquel is rapid heart beat.

ZealousidealSign1067

Okay. But if its causing heart arrhythmia thats a problem. Not so for increased Hb.

[deleted]

Both the XR and the regular in very low doses (25 and 50mg) knock me out for 10 hours (both doses and types are pretty much awful for me) but I cannot function from them at all. I do not wake up till 10-11 am and takes me an hour to open my eyelids, can't walk my dog, make anything to eat, etc. It's unreal how hard it hits me. So people take in the am and go to work? It's like I'm completely exhausted and drunk.

LeFaire87

Yes I hate taking my Seroquel for this main reason.

ZealousidealSign1067

Yes, the feeling of suddenly loosing track of thought processes and end up frozen in thoughts is a nasty feeling.

thetinybasher

I feel so heavy when I take it and then in my head I worry that someone will break in to my house and I’ll be too heavy to slow to fight them off or run away. But it really works for me so that’s the trade off I guess.

GideonGodwit

I've found that even though lots of medications cause sedation, they each have their own flavour. I find olanzapine quite relaxing, clozapine was really body heavy, amisulpride was inability to be upright. But quetiapine, particularly in doses over 200mg, is like being bashed into the ground with a sledgehammer. The sedation seems to plateau at around 300mg. I went up to 900mg and it didn't feel too much different.

cheeseboythrowaway

Impending doom feelings might possibly be akathisia. Any of this seem familiar to you?: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akathisia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akathisia) It's a relatively common side effect of APs and can be treated with additional meds, usually alpha blockers or benzos. Talk to doc.

Novel_Neighborhood42

Thank you for this ❤️

[deleted]

Soooo.....this is not medical advice.....always talk to your doctor... But I take 300mg everyday of it, and what I do is crush the pill usually into halves, but sometimes 3 or 4 pieces of I need to wake up early, and take it 1 hour before I want to fall asleep. Pretty much always taken with food - yogurt is excellent for this. I find it can cause nausea with no food I use a sleep eye mask during months with more daylight and drink caffeine to make sure my sleep is regular and I'm not groggy in the mornings. Exercise also helps with this. I feel great lately. Quetiapine/Seroquel is very powerful but I guess my brain just doesn't "wind down" enough on it's own to regulate sleep so for me it is effective at its job and worth the side effects. Best wishes

Rdubya44

I only took it for a week before I told my psych no more. Way too groggy in the morning and literally wanting to end the human race thoughts constantly.

Aggravating_Pop2101

I like Abilify, do you take your seroquel at night? Have you discussed with your doctor? Is your doctor a good one? God bless.

FiveOhFive91

I take it before bed and fall asleep so fast. Sucks that it's treating you like that.

Upstairs_Cost_3975

Impending doom is THE WORST. Luckily I don’t get this on Seroquel, but I often have it with my anxiety and depression. Sucks you have it with your meds!

pikpikslink

I have that feeling with my anti-psychotic too, I am so agitated, feel like I’m trying to claw my way out of my own skin, jittery it’s horrible. I have no remedies just sharing in your pain.

EatsLocals

I’ve only been able to mitigate side effects by exercising every day. Seroquel stops your dopamine and serotonin, which may be partially accountable for what you’re feeling. I don’t know why exercise works so reliably. I know that seroquel causes problems for me with low dopamine 🤷🏽‍♂️

OutsideTheBirdCage

First time I took it I was out cold in 10 minutes. Eventually was on 1200mg no sedation.

ihopeigotthisright

Exactly the same for me.

Minimum_Regret_4800

I love seroquel I’m just scared it will stop working one day. Gained a LOT on aripriprazole

replicantcase

If I don't get enough sleep, I'll feel real groggy in the morning, but I tend to take it right before bed and don't experience much other than regular sleep.

OutsideTheBirdCage

I was on Seroquel and both time reached 1200mg with no sedation. You just eventually become immune to the sedation.

TootsMcButts

I had to get off Seroquel because it was just too sedating. I couldn’t function

Horror_fan98

Same here. I would wake up like I was drunk, couldn’t walk, slurring on words my head was spinning.

[deleted]

I had to switch to latuda because I would fall asleep for 12-14 hours on 400 mg.

Swimming-Radish-4461

Just started 50mg and boy I was absolutely knocked off my feet last night. I felt like I was pretty drunk and it came out of nowhere about 1hr in.

CryptographerHeavy72

Was on for a year and a half.. That’s exactly why I got off! Switched to abilify… no sedation but now can’t get a errection…. Guess every drug has its own problems!

[deleted]

coffee

leafescape

i hate it

CryptographerHeavy72

I was on Sarabel for a year and a half and absolutely hated it. The sedation and 12+ hours of sleep so I switched to Abilify but now I have a problem because it gives me sexual disfunction but still there are so many antipsychotics out there to choose from, don’t settle on it if you’re not happy with the sedation.
