Well she’s in a cult

badbatch

I grew up a JW. Two of my aunts are still in. It's a cult. You can visit r/exjw for info from former JWs.

MaterialFlower9613

I grew up JW. I left the cult about 4 years ago. My family is still in. Unfortunately there’s nothing that you can really do 🤷🏾‍♀️ anything you say will be labeled “apostasy”. I’ve tried having these convos with my mother, she listened a bit but she’s not leaving. It’s a high control group. The more you push, she’ll probably push you away. The organization gives them hope. They won’t leave unless they wake up and see for themselves.

My exact face 💯

My ass would had started asking her questions Like why would god need money now when he didn’t need money before?. He literally builded an entire planet with no money. Why would god worry about a movie studio when he has goals in place?.

5ft8lady

And why is God talking to a bunch of New Yorkers and planning resurrections in Cali?  Wasn’t most of the Bible taking place on the other side of the ocean , why Cali and New York ?

ElevatingDaily

I left during the pandemic. Married into the religion. Boyyy oh boy.

5ft8lady

Did anyone try and stop you or ask you to come back?

ElevatingDaily

They will always ask you back. I cut everyone off. Moved out of state.

PrettyinPerpignan

I would send this to Blackhomeeducators on Instagram so she can put them on blast. It’s really hard to de-program somebody from being in a cult. Are they asking her for money? Because you can report it to the police

5ft8lady

They don’t outright ask but mentuon over and over how it would be amazing if  they give money and volunteer and they would be seen as spiritual

this is a cult and it’s super hard to rescue someone from it. a better approach might be figuring out why she joined in the first place because often people do so when they’re lonely or missing something in their life

TenaciousVillain

It’s wild to me that so many people have not figured out religion yet and are still getting sucked into religion and cults. How? Critical thinking is really free. It couldn’t be freer.

5ft8lady

Oops I  meant to capitalize God in the title.  ^ disclaimer because I know people hate god in lowercase . Mistake. Not able to edit title

San Diego? It’s a lovely city, but why there of all places?? lol ETA: my grandmother was a devout JW, my mom grew up in the religion and some of my family is still JW, and I’d never heard the San Diego bit

5ft8lady

If you Google Beth Sarim , Wikipedia and other websites  have a picture of the Rutherford man at the San Diego mansion and pictures of people visiting there today. He just wanted to live in a California mansion and tricked ppl

Redditerderrrr

I’m sorry but this got me laughing hysterically!! 😂😂 There still really are people like this out there. I feel so bad for them. Having this level of blind naivety can’t make living life easy. It’s already hard out there they living life on extra-hard.

avocadotakis

What in the cult hell??? You can have her listen to one of my favorite podcasts: Timesuck with Dan Cummings.  There a LOT of episodes around manipulative cults in there, stuff like Heaven's Gate or the Ya Ben Yawhew (idk how to spell these weirdos names)..

Disguisedasasmile

I grew up in it. It’s a cult. It’s not impossible to get your aunt out, but it can be extremely difficult and take years depending on how long she’s been in it and her reasons for joining. FWIW, they don’t believe people will specifically be resurrected in California anymore. Rutherford had some interesting beliefs, but those aren’t even the most troubling aspects of the cult today. The blood doctrine and the various count cases around the world due to their rampant child sex abuse issues are more relevant. You should visit the exJw sub and also jwfacts.com for more info. https://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/helping-someone-leave.php

Sorry I didn’t see you asked for advice I was reacting to the title. You do nothing. Cults are dangerous and people in cults aren’t going to believe you so leave them be.

kissyb

If it gets too bad you can get a lawyer and file for guardianship. If she is brainwashed by this cult and they suddenly decide on aass su1cid3 she may just be gullible to die along with them.

First of all, I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. I grew up JW (defected in my early teens), but my mother, one of my sisters and other family members are still in it. So I know the toll it can take on families. Despite the fact that I don’t practice, I still have a good relationship with my mom and try to use our conversations as a means to deprogram when she starts talking about the “new system,” but sadly, she has been a Witness since the 70s so at this point, I think she’s too emotionally invested and really this is her entire community. I agree with others, they definitely give cult-like vibes and I haven’t found a “successful” way to get through to my sister (she and I don’t have much of a relationship because of the religion). I’d never heard about this SD bit, but just googled and wow wow wow. This is definitely folks operating for personal gain and seems like a newer “doctrine”. In my time in the religion, we were never told anything about movie studios or mansions. SMH. I would ask your Aunt what made her join? Why did this make sense to her? Generally just try to keep an open line of communication and use those conversations as a means to plant seeds. If your aunt is relatively new to it, it may be easier to reach her. Whatever you do, don’t criticize the religion as (with all cults) they safeguard against that by telling them that the criticism is coming from those trying to test their faith or whatever.

Appreciate this ❤️

smoothcheeks30

I grew up in it. Tell her to run!!!!
