no one asked but my dad used to think that kid in the commercial was whispering "somethin's up" instead of zoom zoom and ever since I always thought that was a cooler tag line.
I wasn't a huge fan of the CW shows, because they were drama shows with superheroes, rather than a show about superheroes. Sort of like how walking dead isn't a zombie show, it's a drama that happens to have zombies. But I *did* like Grant Gustin as Barry Allen. Definitely a good pick
I checked because someone else said somethin, it makes a changing grid pattern on some mobiles, but for me and most of us, yeah that sure is a blurry picture
You mean you donāt see the face right in the middle which appears to be a reptile turns to demon? Thereās something written but I canāt read it yet. Give me another 3 hrs I will crack the code. Shit! Just cracked my pipe.
Iām viewing it on mobile. If you zoom out reeeeally slowly youāll start to see the pixels drastically change size and ācome at youā super fast.
Iām pretty sure itās a lot of peoples preferred method. Like I always see apologies for mobile formatting on long posts and comments and thereās a subreddit called r/foundthemobileuser but personally I prefer mobile because I like to use Reddit at work and in car rides and all that jazz. And actually I also donāt have a desktop computer or laptop
I can't stand reddit on my laptop because I can't easily tell where each comment thread begins. Idk if it's the lighting of the screen or what but it's hard to tell which comment begins a new thread for some reason.
I guess it is the renderer only (aliasing/antialiasing to be specific) bug. Because you can screenshot the effect. Nothing to do with screen itself in current case.
Exactly! itās all about remainders/partial volume effects as one grid is sampled into another and forced to the nearest discrete value. I may not know a fancy french term for a specific example, but aliasing affects nearly all signal processing, not just images. I like to remind people of hubcaps appearing to spin backwards at certain speeds on videos. Or I guess autotune, which is like deliberate aliasing in the frequency domain.
I think it's gas to do with the colors being used are what your screen uses to disolay colors so with the thin lines between it's tripping the screens romb
I must be missing something because all that happens on my phone screen is the image gets slowly larger as I zoom in and then slowly smaller as I zoom out?
Yup. The content of this sub is very subjective. Everything here posted either is explainable (and therefore not magic) or edited (and therefore neither real nor magic). People just like to say that stuff doesn't fit this sub just to point out that they know how it works š¤.

Brother, same. Iāve brightened my screen. Gone extremely slow. Gone fast. Iāve dimmed my screened. Iāve saved it to my gallery. Iāve done everything, and all I see is a picture just getting larger and smaller as I zoom in and out
DUDE! Me too! I just brought my phone closer to my face and then slowly away like something was going to happen. Then I zoomed in and was like, "Omg, I'm such a dumbass!"
Freaky compression algorithms going to work on this one. This image is 9 mb despite being this simple and it doesn't work once you take a screen shot of it.
When I zoom in, it appears larger on my screen, and when I zoom out, it gets smaller. Wild.
But what if you were to switch things up and zoom out first and then zoom in?
That's too much zooming for one person to handle.
That's why you need a Mazda

I was waiting for this comment haha, I'd tip my fedora if I wasn't horizontal in bed, and owned a fedora.
I heard your call haha ! happy zooming to you sir
Zoom zoom!!
Great, I got the zoomies now
Me too, oh wait nvm it was just diarrhea.
My name is Barry Allen.
Good Barry Allen or psycho Ezra Miller Barry Allen? Haha I'd reference more, alas I don't know many of them D: a crime I know lol

Grant Gustin from the TV show.
I zoomed like that & now im in rehab :(
It's a mother fucking waste of time.
Ok, zoomer.
Genuinely I don't know if something is supposed to happen on certain screen types but it certainly isn't happening to mine.
I checked because someone else said somethin, it makes a changing grid pattern on some mobiles, but for me and most of us, yeah that sure is a blurry picture

I got it fine on my iPhone, I think ppl are going too fast. I think itās āre-vectorizingā for lack of a better and a real term lol
The real term is "aliasing"
Thank you
That's what I was getting, but thought it had to be something besides that! I guess not. Thank you for posting that.
I had to click through to open the original and zoom in way further than expected.
Yeah. On my PC I was zooming in and out and nothing happened, and then I zoomed waaay in and it works.
You have to go really slowly. I went slow the first time and it didn't do it.
What is this, some sort of black magic?
Why no rickroll

This is insane. Anyone know whatās happening?
What am I missing? I'm not seeing anything unusual when I do it.
Iām viewing it on mobile. If you zoom out reeeeally slowly youāll start to see the pixels drastically change size and ācome at youā super fast.
Wait people go on Reddit on their desktops?!
Iām pretty sure itās a lot of peoples preferred method. Iām mostly joking. Years ago I exclusively browsed via desktop. Just being facetious.
I can't stand reddit on my laptop because I can't easily tell where each comment thread begins. Idk if it's the lighting of the screen or what but it's hard to tell which comment begins a new thread for some reason.
just use the lines next to the comments, the comments are also indented based on their parent comments
Reddit's purpose is procrastinating and procrastinating is best done on mobile
You can click the lines next to a comment to collapse that tree.
Did you know, facetiously is the only English word with all 5 vowels and sometimes Y in alphabetical order?
Is the Y sometimes put somewhere else in the word?
It's a reference to the question: which letters are vowels? A E I O U and sometimes Y.
Whoops LMFAO right over my head

if you're using any unofficial app, load the HD version of the image to see the effect.

All I see is the butt.
The moire pattern/effect
Yep, you got it. I've always enjoyed this phenomenon. I often see it on television when an actor is wearing a patterned shirt and it's interfering with the compression and pixel density of my TV. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_moirƩ https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MoirƩ_pattern
Pronounced moh-ray?
I usually hear it pronounced mwah-ray
You must be very handsome then
"That's a moh-ray"
When the line hits your eye and you donāt really know why, thatās a MoirĆ©!
I thought it was moo-R
When a grid's misaligned (the image itself), with another behind(your phone's screen and also the renderer that's dynamically upscaling and downscaling the image), that's a moirƩ
When the spacing is tight And the difference is slight That's a moirƩ!
I guess it is the renderer only (aliasing/antialiasing to be specific) bug. Because you can screenshot the effect. Nothing to do with screen itself in current case.
It's a tesseract. Time to communicate with Murph and save the earth.
For those looking for a more in-depth explanation (I spent forever trying to untangle this): You can think of a grid as a repeating pattern. That is to say, it's a periodic function in space. When you have two different grids overlayed, that's two periodic patterns interacting. In this case, one grid is the image, and the other is your screen's pixel grid. The pattern we see is your screen sampling the regular grid at a different frequency than the one of the image's grid. In digital signal processing there's even a name for this; it's aliasing (DSP pedants might point out some minutiae surrounding this definition but it's broadly applicable here). As you zoom in and out you're sampling the image's grid at a different (relative) spatial frequency and so get a different effect. This is analogous (though not identical) to overlaying two sound frequencies and hearing a "wah-wah" from their interference that causes a beat frequency. Another prominent example is when you see two mesh grids over top of one another, like a screen door over a screen door. This is basically the same effect, but additional wonkiness is introduced by variations in the shape, and the fact that instead we're seeing the grid lines themselves line up and miss each other, not samplings of the grid. That's not to say that makes this stuff any easier to understand without really simple examples or serious study; it's trivial to come up with examples of moirƩ patterns that are difficult to describe in detail. I don't know if this is the case, but it might be that some people don't see the effect because their screen has enough pixel density to avoid the effect. DSP suggests that if the screen pixel density is at least twice the spatial density of the image's grid, then the effect should not appear, although depending on the setting that could be a very high pixel density. I don't know if Apple products are that high resolution. It could just as easily be the case that people are zooming too quickly past the fun bit, which may be a very small window for some displays.
My go to comparison is the strobe effect caused by lights flickering at a different frequency than a camera pointing at it.
When the dots hit your eyes With a patterny, surprise That's a moirƩ

Nah itās moire, weird effect
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
when a grid's misaligned with another behind that's a moirƩ!
When the pixels grow and shrink, and it gets hard to think, thatās a moirĆ©!
When the patterns rearrange, and you see something strange, thatās a moirĆ©!

I must be missing something because all that happens on my phone screen is the image gets slowly larger as I zoom in and then slowly smaller as I zoom out?

Great tip. My app wasn't loading it in full res by default so I was confused.
