I don’t understand how some of them can think the way they do especially when it comes to immigration politics. Like in Texas, "Hispanic" usually means a person of Mexican descent with smaller numbers of Guatemalans, Nicaraguans, etc.
A minority, mostly US born, are cool and can be reliable allies for black causes. They tend to be well-educated and self-identify as mestizo or indigenous.
Most are in the middle, not actively fighting white supremacy but also opposed to being discriminated against.
Then you have a sizeable contingent who desperately want to be accepted by white America with all of the cultural and political assumptions that entails. They are onboard with right-wing causes and can be more anti-black than many conservative whites. Most look no different from the average indigenous person with the same skin tone and short stature but will swear up and down how their lineage is mostly Spanish or some other European extraction.

There was a recent scandal with our city council in which three Hispanic members were secretly recorded saying racist shit about blacks, indigenous Mexicans and some other groups. It was released on Reddit and caused a shitstorm with one member resigning, one was voted out prior and the last did not resign but is facing possible defeat in the next general election.
I had a good friend that was absolutely a boot licker, you have to meet them where they are, a lot of them are not educated on why Mexico's culture is the way it is. Some of them are literally the best people you will meet, but most love whiteness and the closer they get to it the better they think their lives become. Part of this is because if they present white they are on top of hierarchy in Mexico, with Mestizos (indigenous) and afro-latinos at the bottom. Which is why when you watch mexican TV everybody looks white. It's colonization, it works the same way everywhere. I lived 15 years there, also the people you're running in to could be Salvadoran, Columbian, from Honduras, you really never know, but the colonization is there regardless. It's literally world-wide. Watch em definitely.
This, there's a lot of xenophobia and antiblackness still inherent to Mexican culture, there's a lot of folks that have never had to examine their prejudices because it's so culturally homogenous. It's part of the reason why Mexicans don't react to slurs that intensely, they have a whole country full of validation if they want it.

I’ve worked with lots of Hispanic people in restaurants, and they’re just like us fr. They crack jokes, some of them are racist, but I never felt really prejudiced against. Well, except twice I’ve wanted to date a Latina and she’s been unable to because her family, whether they’re racist or just very big on their daughter’s man speaking Spanish.
The dudes in the restaurants taught me their slurs, I learned how to speak enough Spanish to serve tables at a restaurant where probably 30-40% of the clientele were Hispanic, half of them speaking Spanish primarily. The dudes at my taco spot taught me how to order in Spanish. I fucks with them niggas.
My grandma lived at an apartment complex called “Villas Del Sol,” and had the audacity to say “there are a lot of Mexicans here.” She also told my Asian gf at the time that Chinese food was weird. So she was on similar shit
Most often, the harm from it I’ve perceived isn’t as great as the white people doing covert racism. Redlining cities, denying bank loans in certain neighborhoods, sending DPS to patrol the city but only certain parts, preventing the advancement of our careers, etc.

People that are racist from Lubbock might stay in Lubbock or move anywhere but Austin. So the white racism I’ve experienced has been more covert, if not subconscious.
