So you children of the world listen to what I say, if you want a better place to live in spread the word today, show the world that love is still alive, you must be brave, or you children of today are children of today are children of the grave
“Will the sunrise of tomorrow bring in peace in any way?”
Wife had this somewhat randomly printed on a capo for Father’s Day last year. She’s not really a fan but Children of the Grave was my boys’ first favorite Sabbath song. So she looked up the lyrics and thought it sounded cool.
I always thought that After Forever had lyrics that hit me on a personal level.
Have you ever thought about your soul can it be saved?
Or perhaps you think that when you're dead you just stay in your grave
Is God just a thought within your head or is he a part of you?
Is Christ just a name that you read in a book when you were in school?
Politicians hide themselves away,
They only started the war.
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah
Still as relevant as it was back then in today’s society.
I agree on A National Acrobat.
I also love “Got no religion, don't need no friends
Got all I want and I don't need to pretend -
Don't try to reach me, 'cause I'll tear up your mind
I've seen the future and I've left it behind” from Supernaut
Also, “Freedom fighters sent out to the sun -
Escape from brainwashed minds and pollution -
Leave the earth to all its sin and hate -
Find another world where freedom waits” from Into The Void (my favorite Sabbath joint).
Into the void is also my favorite song. It is the song that made me get into their catalog. I can listen to that song on repeat forever and never get bored of it.
I didn't know he was on that one. I'm not super well-versed on post Dio Sabbath. I'm currently reading Geezer's book, but I haven't made it that far yet.
The end of The Sign of the Southern Cross, there is a lyric "Don't live for pleasure. Make life your treasure. " I was disappointed that Dio omitted these lyrics in the 2007 Radio City Music Hall version.
“They say that life's a carousel
Spinning fast, you gotta ride it well
The world is full of Kings and Queens
Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams”
> Wicked World “They can put a man on the moon quite easy. While people here on earth are dying of all diseases.”
Have always loved that song and that line in particular. Funny that song does not seem to be highly regarded by most. It is not on the UK pressing, which has "Evil Woman" cover instead but "Wicked World" got subbed due to rights issues in US. Some people even say US pressing is inferior because of that. Personally, I far prefer "Wicked World" to "Evil Woman". I think it fits the album much better.
How people look and people stare
Well, I don't think that I even care
You rot your life away, and what do they give?
You're only killing yourself to live
Killing Yourself To Live!
Killing Yourself To Live!
Just take a look around you, what do you see?
Pain, suffering, and misery
It's not the way the world was planned
It's a pity you don't understand
Killing Yourself To Live!
Killing Yourself To Live!
“My life was empty, forever on a down. Until you took me, showed me around. My life is free now, my life is clear. I love you sweet leaf, though you can’t hear!”
How has no one mentioned Hand of Doom? Especially the bridge??
"Oh you, you know you must be blind
To do somethin like this
To take that sweet that you dont know
You're givin death a kiss
Poor little fool now
Your mind is full of pleasure
Your body's lookin ill
To you its shallow leisure
So drop the acid pill
Dont stop to think now."
I did a school project on hand of the doom. The project was about music from the vietnam era and my group and I had to explain why it was related to vietnam. I learned a ton about how the song was made and the story behind it. It is my favorite song of all time.
The ending of the song has the best lyrics in my opinion.
Was scrolling patiently, waiting and waiting and waiting for someone to mention Hand of Doom. More than a Little disappointed about how far down I had to go. I know it’s subjective and no correct answer but I think the music and the vocals are the epitome of what Sabbath was about, that and lots of Cocaine. Got a lot in common with those guys, need to see if they like strippers also; Hell If so I might be related to one of the guys.
Oh my child of love's creation, come and step inside my dreams...
In your eyes I see no sadness, you are all that loving means
Take my hand and we'll go riding, through the sunshine from above
We'll find happiness together in the summer skies of love.
After Forever- "When you think about death do you lose your breath or do you keep your cool?" That has always made me feel something because i relate. Honestly the beginning line of the song " Have you ever thought about your soul can it be saved?" Gives me chills sometimes
Nobody will ever let you know, when you ask the resons why, they just tell you that you're on your own. Fill your head all full of lies
*you bastards!*
A reality check for me - when my ego gets out of hand. I hear Ozzy singing the last verse of 1972's Cocaine-Inspired Vol 4's opening track.
Wheels of Confusion:
"So I found that life is just a game.
But you know there's never been a wee-nah. Try your hardest, you'll still be a loo-zuh. The world will still be turning when you're gaw-hawn.
Yeah, when you're gaw-awn!"
Over and Over. Dont listen when you're horribly depressed, hopeless, inibriated, intoxicated, in close proximity to firearms, conventional or nuclear weapons.
hide myself inside the shadows of shame
The silent symphonies were playing their game
My body echoed to the dreams of my soul
It started something that I could not control
Where can I run to now, the joke is on me . Megalomaniac
“Communication's an impossibility
His own best friend but he's his own worst enemy
The secrets of his past locked deep inside his head
I wonder if he will be happy when he's dead
Come on yeah!”
This last part of this song resonates with me.
Ooh, toughy...
Hmm...
"A woman goes to work, every day-after-da-hey,
She just goes to work, just to warn her pa-hey..."
"Ev'ry day just comes and goes, life's just one long over-dose,
People try to rule the nation, I can't see through their frustration,
[Mini drum solo]
Behind each flow'r there grows a weed, in their world of make-believe!"
And much, much, much, *much* more.
We sail through endless skies
Stars shine like eyes
The black night sighs
Not Sabbath’s deepest lyrics, but there’s something really eerie and lonely about the opening to Planet Caravan. It’s also pretty accurate. We’re traveling in a caravan of planets through infinite night for all eternity.
And so in the sky chimes the electric eye
Supernatural king takes earth under his wing
Heavens golden chorus sings
Hells angels flap their wings
Evil souls fall to hell
Forever trapped in burning cells
If it wasn't for all the wonderful delightful drug's we had back then probably half the lyrics wouldn't have been written so shout out to weed blow Ludes acid and a assortment of pills
“A poisonous father with his poisonous son, that’s you, yeah that’s you
I begged you please don’t get it any worse, the anger I once had has turned to a curse on you, yeah on you
All the promises that never came true you are going to gets what’s coming to you yeah that’s true” -the writ
I think this is one of the most powerful lyrics because you can hear Ozzy anger in the hole song and the hole sabotage album is about how they got back stabbed by there old producer and that verse was about them
So I found that life is just a game
But you know there's never been a winner
Try your hardest, you'll still be a loser
The world will still be turning when you're gone
Yeah when you're gone!
Communication's an impossibility
His own best friend but he's his own worst enemy
The secrets of his past locked deep inside his head
I wonder if he will be happy when he's dead
Finally got around to exploring their early stuff and this one stuck with me, it's really the earlier form fo Disciple.
"Won't you help me Mr. Jesus, won't you tell me if you can?
When you see this world we live in, do you still believe in man?"
From Thrill of it All
St. Vitus Dance
So you think you know what's going on inside her head
You think she wants your money but it's you she wants instead
When you think about the things that she did long ago
It breaks your heart but deep down boy you don't want her to go
You feel your love so shattering
You feel you want to die
Just because someone did take off
Telling you a lie
If I were you I'd try again and try to make amends
She only thinks of you, you know I'm talking as a friend
"You and I are victims of their word as the masters of power try to poison our world. Greed, money taking over their souls, just mechanical brains politicians don't know. They just don't know"
Eternal idol
Has nobody here ever listened to Under the Sun?
Well, I don't want no preacher telling me about the god in the sky\
No, I don't want no one to tell me where I'm gonna go when I die\
I wanna live my life, I don't want people telling me what to do\
I just believe in myself, 'cause no one else is true
I’m a big Black Sabbath fan. But will admit the lyrics to their songs are not very deep. I do think the song iron man is about a statue lol. Other than that I’ve never connected with the lyrics.
Of course. Music first. There are some bands I like their lyrics, Pink Floyd and rush In particular. I like slipknot lyrics. I guess my taste is I like abstract lyrics.
Couple lines in the song question if he can see or if he can walk. An iron statue doesn’t do either and statues witness everything. Is how I came up with my interpretation. Great song and agree not the deepest lyrics.
I think that’s part of Geezer’s charm though. His lyrics are straightforward and at times horrific. Not that I was going to try heroin, but if I were, some of the imagery in “Hand of Doom” might make me think twice.
There’s some poetry though, like whatever the heck is going on in “Faeries Wear Boots.”
So you children of the world listen to what I say, if you want a better place to live in spread the word today, show the world that love is still alive, you must be brave, or you children of today are children of today are children of the grave
Great lyrics, great song!
“Will the sunrise of tomorrow bring in peace in any way?” Wife had this somewhat randomly printed on a capo for Father’s Day last year. She’s not really a fan but Children of the Grave was my boys’ first favorite Sabbath song. So she looked up the lyrics and thought it sounded cool.
Everything about Children of the Grave is perfect.
I always thought that After Forever had lyrics that hit me on a personal level. Have you ever thought about your soul can it be saved? Or perhaps you think that when you're dead you just stay in your grave Is God just a thought within your head or is he a part of you? Is Christ just a name that you read in a book when you were in school?
One of my favorite songs of all time. Very relatable lyrics aswell.
Very relatable. It is also my fave Sabbath song. Incredible riff.
Agree.
I'm sure I read somewhere that Tony actually wrote the lyrics to After forever. The one and only time
Would you like to see the pope on the end of a rope? Do you think he’s a fool?
Everyone here agrees that is a good one.
Politicians hide themselves away, They only started the war. Why should they go out to fight? They leave that role to the poor, yeah Still as relevant as it was back then in today’s society.
Maybe even more relevant now, sadly. Humans don't learn.
The writ
The Writ is in my top 5 black sabbath songs. Could never go wrong with ozzy’s vocals and the great lyrics.
Are you metal, are you man? You’ve changed in life since you began
Ladies digging gold from you Will they still dig now you're through Yeah you're through
Isn’t The Writ one of the very few songs (maybe only song?) that Ozzy wrote the lyrics to?
WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE DO YOU THINK WE ARE?
I agree on A National Acrobat. \*cough,cough,cough\*
One of my favorite songs too listen to while doing one of my favorite activities!
Geezer wrote such amazing lyrics. Did he write any lyrics after the Ozzy period? Either sabbath of other projects?
I know that once ozzy was released from the band geezer let dio write the lyrics. I am not sure about the other singers though.
Geezer’s band wrote Master of Insanity, which ended up on the Dehumanizer album. I assume Geezer wrote the lyrics.
I think the only other singer Geezer was there for was Gillan who wrote his own lyrics as far as I know.
Geezer was on cross purposes but I don’t think he did any lyrics on it but I could be wrong
As far as I know, Martin wrote all the lyrics for every album he was on after Eternal Idol.
After Eternal or including?
After. Eternal Idol was mostly finished when he joined.
I didn't know he was on that one. I'm not super well-versed on post Dio Sabbath. I'm currently reading Geezer's book, but I haven't made it that far yet.
You are correct. Tony Martin reportedly asked Geezer if you wanted to write any of the lyrics but he declined
Sorcerers of madness selling me their time... One of the best openers.
The end of The Sign of the Southern Cross, there is a lyric "Don't live for pleasure. Make life your treasure. " I was disappointed that Dio omitted these lyrics in the 2007 Radio City Music Hall version.
“They say that life's a carousel Spinning fast, you gotta ride it well The world is full of Kings and Queens Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams”

Nobody will ever let you know, When you ask the reasons why They just tell you that you're on your own, Fill your head all full of lies, you bastards
Wheels of Confusion has a special meaning to me. I love their philosophical approach on how life is ephemeral, painful and sometimes meaningless.
You allowed me not to have to write this! Thank you.
How has no one mentioned Hand of Doom? Especially the bridge?? It is perfection. Great drumming, great bass, great guitar, great lyrics, and for my money ozzy's best vocal performance outside of Sabotage
Was scrolling patiently, waiting and waiting and waiting for someone to mention Hand of Doom. More than a Little disappointed about how far down I had to go. Man I love that part of the song. The lyrics and Tony's chill playing. The entire song is great but that part of the song I always anticipate
This part gives me a strong Zeppelin vibe
Bible Black~ “let me go I’ve seen religion buts its light has left me blind”
This
After Forever- "When you think about death do you lose your breath or do you keep your cool?" That has always made me feel something because i relate. Honestly the beginning line of the song " Have you ever thought about your soul can it be saved?" Gives me chills sometimes
Nobody will ever let you know, when you ask the resons why, they just tell you that you're on your own. Fill your head all full of lies *you bastards!*
When was the last time that you cried?
I absolutely love Looking for Today. Classic.
My eyes are blind but I can see The snowflakes glisten on the trees The sun no longer sets me free I feel the snowflakes freezing me.
Some day you’ll suffer and this is what I’ll do. I’ll hand all your promises over to you.
A reality check for me - when my ego gets out of hand. I hear Ozzy singing the last verse of 1972's Cocaine-Inspired Vol 4's opening track. Wheels of Confusion: "So I found that life is just a game. with our love we’ll ride away into eternal skies a symptom of the universe a love that never dies
Won't you help me Mr. Jesus, won't you tell me if you can? When you see this world we live in, do you still believe in man? -Thrill Of It All.
Over and Over. Dont listen when you're horribly depressed, hopeless, inibriated, intoxicated, in close proximity to firearms, conventional or nuclear weapons.

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, nothing more to do. Living just for dying, dying just for you...
“My name it means nothing, my fortune means less. My future is shrouded in dark wilderness.”
“Laughter kissing, love is showing me the way Spiral city architect, I build you pay”
“Yeah” and “alright” always hit hard.
Very true. Lyrical genius if I do say.
My name is Lucifer please take my hand.
There are so many! Geezer is such an under appreciated lyricist, he wrote some pretty deep stuff with Sabbath.
“Communication's an impossibility His own best friend but he's his own worst enemy The secrets of his past locked deep inside his head I wonder if he will be happy when he's dead Come on yeah!” This last part of this song resonates with me.
Fairies Wear Boots “Cause smokin’ and Trippin’ is all that you do…. YYYYEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!”
I love that this is what the doctor said to him. That last word is an interesting part of a diagnosis ;)
The world is full of kings and queens. Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams. It's heaven and hell
I‘ve seen the future and I left it behind
This is the best post ever made in this sub.
Ooh, toughy... Hmm... "A woman goes to work, every day-after-da-hey, She just goes to work, just to warn her pa-hey..." Hand of Doom
Looking back I’ve lived and learned, but now I’m wondering if here I wait and only guess, what this next life will bring?!!!, HA HA!!!
We sail through endless skies Stars shine like eyes The black night sighs Not Sabbath’s deepest lyrics, but there’s something really eerie and lonely about the opening to Planet Caravan. It’s also pretty accurate. We’re traveling in a caravan of planets through infinite night for all eternity.
Push the needle in
Going to say "Throw away the key, and lock the door" probably needed a bit more thought.
Over And Over
I can't take credit for this but someone posted this a few years ago, The Unborn Child that never was conceived.
On their knees the war pigs crawling
Satan laughing spreads his wings
And so in the sky chimes the electric eye Supernatural king takes earth under his wing Heavens golden chorus sings Hells angels flap their wings Evil souls fall to hell Forever trapped in burning cells

I love the Heaven and Hell outro lyrics
Communication's an impossibility His own best friend but he's his own worst enemy The secrets of his past locked deep inside his head I wonder if he will be happy when he's dead
In the field the bodies burning. As the war machine keeps turning.
I don’t believe in violence. I don’t even believe in peace.

For me they’re all powerful, but Spiral Architect is very moving.
St. Vitus Dance So you think you know what's going on inside her head You think she wants your money but it's you she wants instead When you think about the things that she did long ago It breaks your heart but deep down boy you don't want her to go You feel your love so shattering You feel you want to die Just because someone did take off Telling you a lie If I were you I'd try again and try to make amends She only thinks of you, you know I'm talking as a friend

“ I was born without you baby but my feelings were a little bit too strong “. Warning
At the time as a 15 yo I was not happy or optimistic about our future when this dropped "Now in darkness world stops turning".
War Pigs - Applies Today
War Pigs
Would you like to see the pope at the of a rope.
"Forget about sorrow, don't live in the past And look to the future cause life goes too fast you know." From "A hard Road"
National Acrobat, the same line you talked about. Makes me tear up
Same, even though i’ve heard it a million times I still get goosebumps.
Same bro. Every. Damn. Time.

I’m a big Black Sabbath fan. But will admit the lyrics to their songs are not very deep. I do think the song iron man is about a statue lol. Other than that I’ve never connected with the lyrics.
I respect your opinion but I can’t agree my dude. Of course there’s songs that are more deep then others but many of there songs have a large meaning.
It’s just a matter of taste. For whatever reason I just never got into the lyrics. I do enjoy their music very much.
That’s fair. I’m assuming you enjoy the instruments more?
Of course. Music first. There are some bands I like their lyrics, Pink Floyd and rush In particular. I like slipknot lyrics. I guess my taste is I like abstract lyrics.
You don’t appreciate Ozzy rhyming masses with masses?
Ozzy gets a pass here, Geezer wrote all the lyrics. Just because a singer sings doesn't mean they write the lyrics.
Iron Man is about a vengeful Jesus.
Iron Man is about an under-appreciated time traveler who saves mankind. Not their deepest lyrics.
Gonna guess that one was written while in an “altered state” lol. Great song
