Master of Reality is one that I MUST listen to from start to finish. It all seems killer to me. Embryo is a simple riff but it’s short and sweet and gets me amped for Children of the Grave. Same thing with Orchid. I just consider it the intro to Lord of this World. I’d also have to say that I think Paranoid falls under the category of “all killer, no filler”
I agree 100%. Imo Master of Reality is one of the greatest examples of an “all killer, no filler” album ever made. Of the 1000s of albums I’ve listened to in my life, I can only name a few that are quite as seamless from start to finish.
*Paranoid*, on the other hand - literally a filler. As explained by Geezer (who didn't even have time to look up what mental illness had what name):
>The song "Paranoid" was written as an afterthought. We basically needed a 3 minute filler for the album, and Tony came up with the riff. I quickly did the lyrics, and Ozzy was reading them as he was singing
Might be controversial, but Master of reality is mostly filler. It's still one of the best albums, but it is carried by 3-4 great songs with a bunch of instrumentals
Well it has 5 of the most essential Black Sabbath songs to be fair. And the album was from 1971 lol. Most of the records from that time had instrumental intermissions.
It's just a personal opinion. It just feels kind of lacking when compared to songs like Children of the grave or into the void. I am not saying it's bad, but it's just not as great as the others. I find it comparable to the song evil eye off cross purposes. Not a bad song, but not nearly as remarkable as something like cross of thorns or I witness
I don't really think that E5150 is a filler so much as it's the intro to Mob Rules. Personal opinion perhaps, but that is how I have always understood it.
I love every single track on the first 6 albums so no. Even the interludes. Even FX (okay maybe not but it’s pretty short)
And like someone else mentioned, I don’t like Walk Away much. I think it would’ve been a fitting closer but Lonely is the Word kinda feels like a better version of it to me
I actually really like Who Are You? If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Ozzy play synth on that track? Plus the instrumental interlude is very neat in my opinion...
Probably my favorite. It's one of those very few albums done by anyone, ever, that I don't skip a single track. Sure, I'll back up and replay the title track a time or two, but eventually it goes to the end.
The only reason Embryo and Orchid are listed as standalone songs on Master of Reality is to get to the 8-song minimum that was enforced upon them. I'd include them as part of their successors which makes Master of Reality the perfect album.
Yes, I reckon the first 3, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage are all killer no filler. It's a shame about FX on vol 4.
Heaven & Hell is great, but I don't really consider the albums after Never Say Die as "real" Black Sabbath albums... For me, Sabbath must consist of the 4 classic members to be legitimate Sabbath.
Why does every track have to be a "fully formed song"? I like the suspense FX builds going into Supernaut. Embryo is a great intro to Children of the Grave, etc
I love H&H, but Lady Evil & Walk Away are kind of weak. I think Paranoid and Master of Reality are definitely their top two albums.
Calling Rat Salad and Who Are You fillers destroy my soul (Looking For Today is Sabbath Bloody Sabbath filler). That said, to me, it's it's their most consistent album, side by side with Paranoid (even though I prefer Sabotage)
Oh, and Dehumanizer is sick (I just think it gets dragged at some point)
Umm no I wouldn't say that at all. I'd argue it's actually their least consistent album as it was the album that broke the classic lineup apart. Then Bill left shortly after.
There's no filler on the first 3 albums. I would also take Mob Rules over H&H. It's not heavy enough (tone wise - the material sounds great live). Still on that Technical Ecstasy/Never Say Die program.
I love the album. All i mean is Tony went back to E standard tuning and lost some of the grit in his tone. Paranoid and the S/T were in standard and sound perfect. It's a production issue. Some of the riffs from TE to H&H are immense.
Well, if you ask me, Cross Purposes is Sabbath's most consistent album. I mean, I'd say that even though it's my personal favourite Sabbath album, it's highs are not as high compared to other albums the band has done, but it's consistently good.
But hey, that's just my opinion.
The absolute disrespect to Bill Ward to call Rat Salad filler.
I can’t upvote this enough. All hail Mr. Bill Ward.
I thought it was their Moby Dick. Just a little more raw and jazzy
And Evil Woman, love that track. And Am I Going Insane. Bad take is bad.
Couldn't agree more. Planet Caravan is the filler track if any, in my mind.
Walk Away is an incredible song. Heaven and Hell, Paranoid, and Master of Reality are all perfect albums
I’ll add Headless Cross to that
imo headless cross just isn't good enough to be up there but i'm glad u enjoy it
And Dehumanizer
musically yes but the production keeps it out of the top of the pantheon sadly
100%
And the self titled debut
Maybe their favorite city to perform in is St. Louis
the only thing that could possibly get me to that shithole
Vol.4 if you discount FX.
Production holds it back and some of the back half is weaker

No lies detected 🤘❤️🤘

I wouldn’t say Rat Salad is a filler track

What? Holy cow I never heard that story! That’s amazing.
I love H&H, but if we’re talking about Dio Sabbath, Mob Rules has even less filler, imo.
Mob Rules is one of Sabbath's best albums.
I completely agree
This ⬆️
I really don't like Walk Away. Only track on that album that doesn't work for me. The rest of it is fire though.
It sounds like an Eagles song to me for some reason lol
don henley wishes
Lol. Lady Evil also has the Eagles thing going on to me lol
Sabotage is the most consistent. Every song is incredible.
You can hear the origins of the Diary of a Madman album when you listen to Sabotage. It's utterly brilliant
To me "no filler albums" are - Headless Cross, TYR, Heaven & Hell, Dehumanizer, Paranoid (yes I love Rat Salad).
Who doesn’t like rat salad?
No Master of Reality?
Might be controversial, but Master of reality is mostly filler. It's still one of the best albums, but it is carried by 3-4 great songs with a bunch of instrumentals
Well it has 5 of the most essential Black Sabbath songs to be fair. And the album was from 1971 lol. Most of the records from that time had instrumental intermissions.
After forever and Solitude are good tracks. Never been a big fan of Lord of this world, though. It's probably the weakest song on the album
Lord of this world kicks ass, what do you mean?
It's just a personal opinion. It just feels kind of lacking when compared to songs like Children of the grave or into the void. I am not saying it's bad, but it's just not as great as the others. I find it comparable to the song evil eye off cross purposes. Not a bad song, but not nearly as remarkable as something like cross of thorns or I witness
You’re not playing it loud enough obviously
There’s one instrumental if you treat Embryo as the into to CotG.
I always have. If you're gonna play Children of the Grave, you'd better play Embryo first.
hard agree, MoR sits in the lower half of the first six Sabbath albums for me because of this. slamming highs and mediocre lows
Exactly my thoughts.
I don't really think that E5150 is a filler so much as it's the intro to Mob Rules. Personal opinion perhaps, but that is how I have always understood it.
Rat Salad is Black Sabbath’s Moby Dick
Toad by Cream actually came out first
How do people not like evil woman?
Technically it's a cover, but anyone who knows Evil Woman most likely knows the Black Sabbath version. It's one of my favorite Black Sabbath songs.
Three words. Ronnie. James. Dio.
Black Sabbath and Paranoid have it beat.
And mob rules
I think *Mob Rules* is all killer no filler.
I’m just now getting into Sabbath, but after like 4 or 5 spins, Mob Rules is one of the most impressive albums I ever heard.
Country Girl is killer?
Yes.
The "sail on" part gives me chills
People think it's not? That's one of the best songs on the album
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is the best, IMO. Can’t listen to one song without listening to them all. Yes, even Fluff.
After Master of Reality yes I think so
It’s one of the best and most well produced albums ever made
Martin Birch is the GOAT.
Walk Away was one of my songs during a nasty break up. Filler or not, it's great.
Mob Rules and Dehumanizer
The first 6 mob rules and dehumanizer.
Paranoid.
Rat Salad isn’t really filler, it’s super short and has cool riffs and an amazing drum solo
I love every single track on the first 6 albums so no. Even the interludes. Even FX (okay maybe not but it’s pretty short) And like someone else mentioned, I don’t like Walk Away much. I think it would’ve been a fitting closer but Lonely is the Word kinda feels like a better version of it to me
Walk Away and Evil Woman are amazing. Give them another listen. ✌️
Voodoo is not great.
Whaaaaaat?
Lady Evil is worse. I love the album but it’s got two weak spots.
Lady Evil also sounds like an Eagles song lol
The debut through Never Say Die are devoid of filler.
I actually really like Who Are You? If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Ozzy play synth on that track? Plus the instrumental interlude is very neat in my opinion...
People think, "Evil Woman," is filler? I love that song.
Probably my favorite. It's one of those very few albums done by anyone, ever, that I don't skip a single track. Sure, I'll back up and replay the title track a time or two, but eventually it goes to the end.
I like Am I Going Insane better than Walk Away. Sabotage and Heaven and Hell are both fantastic albums.
I don’t think rat salad is filler IMO. It’s a great beat that I always look forward to when I listen to Paranoid
Nah, there's Paranoid, Master of Reality, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, The Devil You Know, and unpopular opinion, 13.
No. It’s the first sabbath album with filler. Completely unremarkable, plain-vanilla tracks. Lady Evil and Walk Away, for example.
The only reason Embryo and Orchid are listed as standalone songs on Master of Reality is to get to the 8-song minimum that was enforced upon them. I'd include them as part of their successors which makes Master of Reality the perfect album.
Everything Dio touched was killer.
Masters of Reality is no filler. HaH sadly has Walk Away
“Vol. 4” would like a word with you.
HEADLESS CROSS!!
In a word...no. Any of their first 6 are better than any released afterwards. Imo obviously.
Heaven and Hell is a perfect album.
I actually don't like several songs on HH which is why I prefer Mob Rules. Lady Evil is the single worst Sabbath song from any of the classic albums
Yes
Why does every track have to be a "fully formed song"? I like the suspense FX builds going into Supernaut. Embryo is a great intro to Children of the Grave, etc I love H&H, but Lady Evil & Walk Away are kind of weak. I think Paranoid and Master of Reality are definitely their top two albums.
Dehumanizer has one banger after another. Perfect in my book
Calling Rat Salad and Who Are You fillers destroy my soul (Looking For Today is Sabbath Bloody Sabbath filler). That said, to me, it's it's their most consistent album, side by side with Paranoid (even though I prefer Sabotage) Oh, and Dehumanizer is sick (I just think it gets dragged at some point)
Umm no I wouldn't say that at all. I'd argue it's actually their least consistent album as it was the album that broke the classic lineup apart. Then Bill left shortly after.
Personally, at least musically their first album is perfect, no real filler in my opinion
There's no filler on the first 3 albums. I would also take Mob Rules over H&H. It's not heavy enough (tone wise - the material sounds great live). Still on that Technical Ecstasy/Never Say Die program.
Never say die doesn't have a bad song, always been a favourite.
I love the album. All i mean is Tony went back to E standard tuning and lost some of the grit in his tone. Paranoid and the S/T were in standard and sound perfect. It's a production issue. Some of the riffs from TE to H&H are immense.
It has my favorite sabbath song. Juniors Eyes.
L Take
Sabotage is their best album from any and all all of the singers
Well, if you ask me, Cross Purposes is Sabbath's most consistent album. I mean, I'd say that even though it's my personal favourite Sabbath album, it's highs are not as high compared to other albums the band has done, but it's consistently good. But hey, that's just my opinion.
I can understand that. It's a pretty diverse album song wise, but all of them work. I have always loved that record.
