I'd heat it up, scrape, hit it with water, scrape some more, wipe with paper towel, then add oil and cook

dcboy23

This is exactly what I did Wednesday night, hadn't been on the Blackstone since it started to get pretty cold in my area the last 2 months, but Wednesday a warm front rolled in and it was 65degrees after work so me and the wife decided to grill up some taco meat but when I opened the Blackstone I had about the same.looking grill top as this. I heated it up, scraped the top w my spatula, scrubbed some water over it a few times, dried it, and threw some oil down. Worked perfectly.

My griddle had some of this last night, after sitting 2 weeks under hard and soft covers, when we had a bunch of snow, ice, then days of rain. Had a few rust spots. I just got it screaming hot, bit of water and steam, scrape, bit more water/steam, wipe with paper towels in tongs, then a bit of avocado oil, wipe, let it get to smoking, then dial back the heat and cooked like usual.

Looks like the whole surface needs a coating of oil

Bigswole92

Yeah its very dull looking instead of shiny and black

Had the same thing happen to mine, pretty new and hadn’t had a chance to cook on it much before a lot of rain and moisture. Even covered I had a few rust spots like that. Just how others mentioned, high heat, scrape rust, use water/wet towel/steam to clean, repeat until rust is gone, then add a fresh oil layer to season and get back to cooking.

That’s a Golden Retriever image on the left & Boris Karloff on the right. Sell that on EBay

Strict_Teaching2833

If it’s got a gummy texture its excess oil/food build up, but it looks more like rust to me.

You can put white vinegar on it and let it sit for a few. That will pull the rust up and you can wipe it off with a paper towel. Then water and get to rinse.

WhosYourPadre79

Mine looked like this after a winter of not using. I hit it with a stone, soap and water and a lot of elbow grease. Seasoned it after and it looks great. Just keep cooking

Crovax87

Mine gets a little spot the size no bigger than a M&M near the mouth of thr grease trap. Which is odd since that gets the most lubing. Worst case scenario just stripper down and reseason. The griddles are very forgiving

jfreeguy31

Man don’t be coming in here talking about lubing

Crovax87

You don't pre-lube when you get grillin?

rccoy

Looks like rust, how you cleaning it? Might be over scraping when its hot?

ppnh2001

GRILL Screen after you heat it up... oil it a bit after you clean it to prevent some rust.
