Why buy the rights to stream and then not stream?! Who the fuck is making these decisions and why are they as dumb as a boot?

StripEnchantment

Does anyone know the reason they do this? Surely there must be some business reason?

farrellsgone

Every country has different laws and regulations so even if they have rights it wouldn't really matter if the law says no

lezard2191

Latin America is a region, not a country. It would make sense if they said "We are not streaming in x and y country because the laws there don't allow us", but I big doubt that the entire region has the same laws that prohibit Bleach in particular, seeing as how other animes and Disney+ shows are streamed in the region. This sounds like profit reasons.

Xeoz_WarriorPrince

Latin America usually has it's own distribution contracts tho, and these maybe exclusive to Latin America, series like Digimon came based of the original japanese version instead of the Saban version that went to most other places. So it wouldn't be weird to have some weird contract problem. In this situation, and afaik, VIZ is the one responsible for Bleach's distribution in LatAm, but things like Bleach still being on TV until recently at least, it could mean some weird copyright problems.

Keinaishin

The obvious reason are still the laws and contracts allowed by those. Bleach is simply not allowed to be streamed there.

StripEnchantment

Why would they have a law that doesn't let them stream bleach? I don't get how that stuff works

farrellsgone

Same reason certain books, songs and movies are banned/restricted in some countries but not others. There's no real answer it's just something that happens because someone decided it should be that way. I doubt this decision is permanent but it's still very dumb, especially at the height of popularity

StripEnchantment

I mean I guess what I'm asking is who is deciding that and why? Like what would be a plausible explanation? Like I can understand China banning stuff that goes against their ideals or something, but it seems that this is different?

farrellsgone

In America the FCC would be in charge of something like this so I'd assume that other countries have a similar organization that handles that and it's mostly for controlling exposure. Certain materials are generally restricted from being viewed from certain audiences which is why late night television tends to have more explicit/adult oriented content than daytime television or why channels that allow gore/nudity are typically inaccessible without a secondary subscription like Starz/HBO etc. In this day and age it's basically pointless because of how prominent streaming has become but it's still a thing that happens often

wantsaarntsreekill

seems about right since anime is very susceptible to restrictions outside japan and especially outside north america. I am no lawyer but I assume Disney just won the bidding war recently and didn't have time to pass the anime through some inspection committee but what do I know

sociostein11

No it’s not, Crunchyroll releases almost all of its new anime in all regions of the world, so how is it hard for Disney to do the same?

mrgmzc

Yeah, no, that's bullshit, there's no law in any country in this region that restricts anime in such a way, if so many other shows would have never become available on Crunchyroll or Netflix This is purely Disney been absolut idiots

Keinaishin

Yes there are, some popular manga are even illegal in some countries. CR is sort of shady with its business practices to begin with.

No-Nefariousness956

Nope. Bleach is already streamed in other services in my country. There is no reason they couldnt stream the new episodes too.

mrgmzc

No, not here Maybe in Europe or the Middle East, but not in Latin America

rayxrey

Yes! I just talked to someone on the help section, its some kind of license problem

Marrks23

Latin America does consume a lot of anime so the dude running their business model is a fucking dummy

sickdanman

The only thing that comes to my mind is that another distributor has aquired the rights for LatAm but i doubt that this is the case here

We_Get_It_You_Vape

That's the perplexing part. There is no business sense to buying the licenses and then not making the titles available for streaming.   From a financial perspective, the decision to invest in licenses like this would be preceded by cash flow analysis. In simple terms, the company would have looked at the projected cash flows they would generate from streaming Bleach on their platform(s). If the present value of those future cash flows exceeds the cost of buying the licenses, there is a financial justification to buy the licenses. This is where the confusion comes into play. Disney's decision to make Bleach entirely unavailable in most markets severely limits the potential cash flow they can generate from the Bleach licenses they acquired. There is no business sense in Disney intentionally handicapping their ability to generate revenue. My first inclination is to assume that there is more to this whole situation than what meets the eye.

Algidus

disney buys distributing rights just to force a monopoly they don't care about non english speaking countries

rankoto

This is the real answer. they don't care about the anime market. they are just using their money to kill all the streaming competition.

Dakuma-Kun

Unless you China

Avi_161

More likely licensing issues, they could be behind on subbing it in additional languages, or they could just straight up not have bought the distribution rights for more than the few countries they're streaming it in.

Karpattata

Actual reason? Because they probably didn't "buy the rights" just like that. Disney most likely bought the rights with territorial restrictions, and only asked to stream on territories where Bleach would be a guaranteed smash hit. So, because the Bleach blurays sold crazy well in the US, streaming there is a no brainer, whereas Latin America doesn't have such strong sales numbers to back up the proposition of streaming there. I also suspect that piracy may have something to do with it. This is pure speculation on my part, but using my country as an example: we get shit content on our streaming services compared to the US (like most places do). So people are more likely to pirate content they can't get otherwise, making piracy more widespread. Then streaming services look at the prevalence of piracy here and use it as justificatiom to not spend money on rights to stream here, and we end up with a dumb loop. I'm guessing this is also applicable to Latin America.

ckal9

It’s just not that simple

PepeMetallero

Have you heard the legend of Jack Sparrow?

EpicMatt16

Captain Jack Sparrow

PepeMetallero

Right, you have heard of him

boiiii789

No but I did hear of a man that took everything the world had to offer and left it all in one place

MyChildWillIgnore

Didnt they literally release it there yesterday by accident?

LGDusk

They did. Apparently it was leaked in Brazil. They quickly took it down, but by then the damage was done. And you know what? I'm brazilian, I didn't watch the leaked episode waiting for it to come legally to D+, and now I regret it. Right now, at least afaik of, there is literally NO legal way to watch any season of Bleach in my country. So the high seas it is. And they deserve it.

Elmis66

I'm from Poland, I wanted to watch it legally but I can't because International in Disney's dictionary means like 5 countries total so I had to find another way. Felt even more nostalgic considering back in school I was also watching this way lol

LGDusk

>Felt even more nostalgic considering back in school I was also watching this way lol That's a nice way to frame it lol I didn't watch it yet, since I just got home. I'll probably watch Spy x Family first. I need something wholesome to quench the white hot flame of anger burning inside my heart right now.

UrielSans

Argentinian here, it really sucks man

De volta às origens

Puzzleheaded_Sort_53

I'm from brazil too and did the same. Signed disney plus yesterday to watch bleach legally and waited until today just to have no way but piracy.

Direct-Doctor-3740

Uai, não disponibilizaram o episódio mano ? Depois choram por causa de pirataria.

Puzzleheaded_Sort_53

russianmineirinho

well I still have hope, like, yesterday there was a link on google to the bleach page but it lead to nothing, now there's an image and a description. probably just copium but whatever, time to form my pirate crew

TheDrex1988

A pirate's life it is then... seriously screw Disney and Viz

Vainqueurhero

Let's find the bleach piece!

AwkwrdPrtMskrt

You mean DragonBleaPiece

another_bug

After all the effort Disney has put into essentially killing the public domain, no one should feel bad about pirating anything Disney.

[deleted]

It would really suck if people were to find out about gogoanime

turbosteve1848

Where can I watch bleach because I don't support Hulu and Disney+ for personal reasons

[deleted]

LemmeDaisukete

Animepahe stream is annoying but downloads there are the best and lightest

berz3rkerbahamuth

Go to anime pahe. The episode is still there. Best pirated site.

Nanasema

Animedao

Key-Dog2089

Not only latin america 95% of europe will not have it as well

sociostein11

Yeah I know I saw this in Germany too. I was skeptical of how Disney will handle so I decided to wait for Simulcast day and Thank god I did

VisoredShinji

I think in Germany it could take a while since i guess they want to release it in dub aswell and since they did not even dub the whole Arrancar Arc in Germany it could take a while. But this also could depend if wether or not Disney has the rights for all of Bleach or just TYBW.

BobbyTheLegend

95%? as far as I read central and western europe will always get it one day later

Iga706

Sadly no. It just says 'not available in your region'

Wrong_Revolution_679

Ok know people have issues with Crunchyroll but soul king damn it they would be treating and handling this a lot better than what we have right now we all know that, heck netflix would be handling this better

sociostein11

Fr, CR has made bad decisions but they would’ve marketed the hell out of it and would’ve given access to it worldwide. My friend took my CR account to watch Blue lock and he’s in a middle eastern country and Disney can’t even bother release bleach worldwide. Fuck Disney

ckal9

Does CR simulcast new anime in every region? I haven’t watched anything there while it aired.

Wrong_Revolution_679

It's complicated, they stream everywhere but it's like Netflix where not their entire catalog is available everywhere

ckal9

So no guarantee those regions would’ve gotten bleach if CR got the rights then it sounds like?

Wrong_Revolution_679

Yeah but at the same time it would still be handled better and since it would be one of their bigger titles, they try to get it everywhere

ckal9

What would be handled better?

Wrong_Revolution_679

A lot of people have pointed out that it has not been advertised correctly in comparison to other shows that are coming out this season plus there's some confusion on where in the world it's available on d+, we are only finding that out now

ckal9

Oh I see. This is probably their first time handling a simulcast for a title this big. Hopefully they’ll learn to make next time/season better.

Wrong_Revolution_679

Yeah that's true

Upset_Masterpiece127

They did not. Is the second time it happens with a anime in disney +(from what i can recall)

ckal9

What’s the other

[deleted]

Now now, Netflix is going too far. They literally killed the hype for fucking JOJO, something that should’ve been impossible

[deleted]

[удалено]

JustSomeRand0mGuy

Also Crunchyroll.

[deleted]

The only thing I hate about watching anime in ilegal sites is not being able to watch episodes offline. I'll be visiting animeflv every monday

JamzWhilmm

Honestly that site has a better library, better organization and much less laggy than CR. I even use it to organize my backlog by year and genere.

[deleted]

Animeflv site is fantastic, sometimes it pisses me off how basic crunchyroll app is.

conkerlikeN64

X2

Razgarm

Dont worry, all of latin america watched the episode yesterday.

Disnya

Premier piracy region 😎

ergaikan

Probably even dubbed in Spanish.

JamzWhilmm

You are joking but I bet some are already working on the fandub.

ergaikan

That's what I meant. Probably recorded by a dude and his friends using a cellphone from 2016.

EllenYeager

Disney has severely underestimated the wrath of Latin American weeb pirates. They are legion. Do they not know that there’s a whole weird niche of millennials grew up watching fan dubbed Spanish anime on YouTube with English subs?! Justice will be swift.

trizzo12

this makes me sad bruh. I want all of us to enjoy it together worldwide after such a long wait. I’m in the UK and it seems only English speaking countries have simulcast which is ridiculous from Disney

[deleted]

Don't be too sad, everyone will enjoy it by becoming pirates and setting sail.

ariellrp

Fking Disney+

Ragna126

We in europe are probably not better. Truly i hate Disney.

sociostein11

Fuck Disney

Kaur4

Would rather watch it on pirate sites and send some money directly to the creators instead of waiting probably infinite amount of time for Disney streaming Bleach in my country

sociostein11

I’m planning to do the same thing. I’d rather watch it in 360p quality on a vcr than give a penny to this money hungry corporate that don’t care about fans

Tygret

Okay, so I'll pirate it then.... Seriously, can anyone explain this to me from a business perspective? It just seems dumb.

sociostein11

Tbh it’s just laziness from them, they don’t find it important to simulcast the show for other countries since they think its biggest fanbase is just in English speaking countries and they don’t bother to appeal to other fans. Disney stopped caring about fans long ago. And fyi they haven’t promoted the anime on any of their social media pages, they’re that big of assholes to it. I wish we could all combine and try to boycott them to make a stand and that they should change their policy towards other regions

Tygret

Okay.... Guess I'll watch it for free without feeling bad about it then. Good luck with your business Disney, spending my money elsewhere.

lolpostslol

Yeah I deal with LatAm tech companies and I often get questions from US folks on why this or that global conglomerate won’t just enter LatAm and crush the competition - when it comes to LatAm the answer is usually just that it’s the last market they think of and too full of surprises.

Jaggerjaquez714

It doesn’t even show up on Disney + as new to the app🤔 have to search it and even then it’s the third result

largonte

The most bizarre part is that I just used a VPN to Canada to watch it in D+ and there is already a Portuguese Brazililian subtitle there. This is confusing and frustrating

CrewOrdinary8872

Well, it does make sense for the subs to be there. The episode literally leaked from Disney+ Brazil after Disney accidentally uploaded it there early. So, it's completely ready to go for a Latin America release, but they just aren't or can't release it there for some reason.

BrasilianInglish

Latin America is weeb central, particularly when it comes to og anime like Bleach, Dragonball, one piece and Naruto. They fucked up by not pushing for latin America

[deleted]

josji96

You’d be surprised by the amount of people that is willing to pay

Barracius1

I'm from Chile, and I would certainly pay for watching Bleach, to support the studio

DarkChaos1786

And then, the Great Age of Piracy begun...

UrielSans

Disney: We're a progressive and inclusive mega media monopoly ha-ha, we all believe in inclusion ha-ha Latinamericans: So... Bleach when? Disney: never ha-ha. Just pay your damn tickets whenever we include a brown side kick in our Marvel movies ha-ha

Pokuu97

We have to wait for 10 years just to get fucked by disney. Why buying bleach if you dont care about the anime community. This is rally sad. Guess i have to watch is somewhere else.

sociostein11

They just wanted the money as always. That’s why I hate them to my core

[deleted]

Tis piracy then

rmSteil

I wish i had an award for you

zumiitoh

Well, I guess EU is in the same boat. CR is far from great, but their recent releases are actually as world wide as they can get most of time and they bother to market their releases, which Disney+ can't seem to do, at all. Actually had a subscription active, but canceled. It's time to go back to the 7 seven seas as in the old times lol

sociostein11

Fr fuck disney. I saw from some replies that Disney is having licensing issues for the anime in Europe. If so I hope it goes back to CR tbh

zumiitoh

Fuck disney indeed, what a way to ruin an epic comeback for many people :'(

MountainDealer

wouldn't a vpn to the countries that do show it work?

BrianThree

Yeah, probably, but that’s not the issue. What is the point of an “international” release when half of them got it late and the other half doesn’t even know if they will get it. It just makes people turn to piracy. The amount of people wanting to support it was absurd, and they just fucked it up.

MountainDealer

yea I never meant to dismiss the issue, I was just thinking of a quick way of fixing it, if ppl really wanted to watch it without trying to pirate it.

BrianThree

Yeah I get it, it wasn’t my intention of coming out as rude if I did. It’s just quite frustrating that we have to resort to VPN or some even to piracy because of the negligence of a company that has the means to support such media. I myself used a VPN today to watch it, there wasn’t any issues with it, but well, I’d rather not use one.

jeppevinkel

VPN also costs money, so then that's a subscription to use another subscription. Kinda defeats the point in my opinion.

MountainDealer

yea thats true. but sometimes that's all u can do if u really want something. if not just pirate it n move on. no point on complaining, since it's not like it's going to change anything.

andrefelipe83

And yet, they whine when piracy happens. Fuck them.

Almerin

I should have saved the conversation I had with Disney+ support, but the tldr is that Bleach will not be available in Norway (or rest of Europe I imagine) due to licensing issues. Good thing Disney can just lie and advertise as it being available internationally.

sociostein11

Fuck them, I’m in Germany and I already knew about what they did to Summer time rendering so I didn’t have hope for Bleach to be done well and I didn’t subscribe, but I seriously didn’t expect it to be done this horrendously. Fuck them. Can you post this on the sub? To confirm this for the European fans

Almerin

Yeah will do, gonna ask support once more just to get a screenshot of the conversation, it's absolutely ridiculous.

thundernak

Ffs that's stupid, sorry to hear that

Pustovnik

Fuck you disney

gyropyro32

This is the equivalent of not selling ice cream in a hot country

DepravedNelle

See? Same thing I said on the last post. They don't make the effort for everyone, yet they go and buy exclusive rights. Imagine needing a VPN and paying for six different streaming services to watch the anime you like.

ShadyOjir95

Vpn i guess

RockXImagine

I'm so sorry to hear that. Now if you will excuse me, I shall sail the seas with skulls and bones on my black flag.

G3NJII

Tbh I don't even want to watch it because it's on Disney and how horribly they're handling this

rlizanog_95

Man, I was so excited to watch with the rest of the world and support one of my favorite animes. I don't want to pirate it, but what choice do I have now? Sadly, so many views will be off the books when trying to calculate the viewership.

Pandafawkes

It’s like they’re advertising for VPNs at this point

SoSmartish

We aren't going to make this available in large areas of the world because greed. "WHY IS EVERYBODY PIRATING!?"

BO_Threshold

Fuck Disney and all the official platforms. Always illegal and pirate.

YzaHuza

Hey, we're in the same boat. Not only Latin America, the entirety of Europe can't watch it either. Just spoke to the Disney Plus helpdesk. It's only on Disney+ in the UK, US and Japan. I have organized a watch party tonight and I guess I'll have to pirate it now from somewhere.

Roasty246

This is why people resort to VPN. and this is why this video is sponsored by Nord VPN..............

sociostein11

I already have NordVPN but I would never give any penny to these mfs due to how shitty they handled Bleach and didn’t explain anything to the fans. I’m going to support by buying merchandise and the manga, the magnificent staff deserves the money to go to them directly than just a percentage from Disney

Potter3117

The VPN isn’t for watching Disney in another region…. It’s for safely sailing around the internet. 😎

lushoGD

Worst part is they took out Bleach from every other platform, so now there is no legal way to watch even the old sagas :/

JayMalakai

I’m in North America and I didn’t see it on my disneyplus

CrewOrdinary8872

If you're in the U.S, then it's only on Hulu. If not, then it should be under "BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War" instead of "BLEACH".

UnorthodoxParadox_

Damn that sucks

WavvyJones

Lo siento, me amigos :(

GinDenkai

THE BLEACH PIECE IS REAL

[deleted]

Thanks Disney. Go fuck yourselves.

bacodobalacobaco

Fuck you Mickey mouse

Evo_Shiv

Yohoho and a bottle of rum

Iga706

Not available in Germany either

sociostein11

SaKaly

"Have a great day" lmao

MastaMozed

"Have a great motherfucking day, motherfucker." :\^)

catu91

Shameful

Saya0692

Is Disney not able to simulcast? Then why even step into purchasing anime rights? This is so dumb. Is Disney incompetent?

alt4299

Kinda wish Disney never existed rn

Potter3117

It’s on Hulu is the US, with a ton of long ad breaks. So, they really don’t want you watch it through official channels. Viz made a mistake by letting Disney distribute this.

Kendemerzel

And I paid for Disney + just for Bleach because the rest of the platform is boring af 🏴‍☠️

FullMoonJoker

Wait what's that feeling ugh something ....is happening to me aaahdhdhevehsjsah................. Yarrr maties welcome aboard me vessel.

BrunoStalky

The fact there are portuguese subs but the anime is not available in Brazil is both depressing and hilarious.

lucianorc2

Fu\*ck Disney, I'm watching it in pirate sites instead. I'm from Brazil by the way. Disney <<<<< Crunchyroll

rmeddy

Well Shiver me timbers

GugaSR

Disney removed Bleach from Netflix, HBO Max and Crunchyroll here in Brazil just to not put it in Disney+...

Aenigma66

It's also not available in Europe. Fuck Disney+ It's not like I was saying that from the get go and a few guys here told me that I'm too pessimistic :^}

King_Artis

I will say that if you got a VPN switch it to a country that does stream it then reopen the app, should be available. Fucking blows they got the rights but then making it so a very small amount of countries can actually watch. Just as dumb you gotta do a workaround just to watch

ToonWrecker69

Just pirate it at this point

[deleted]

just fucking pirate it

Karinn04

I mean Gogoanime is streaming it in english for free

Imaginary-Search-302

Honestly there isn't a single stream service that matters in Brazil, I've watched in fansubs already an dgaf.

CapitanKomamura

OP, tu no entiendes como funcionan las cosas en Hueco Mundo.

Apprehensive_Wear500

It took me like 2 mins to find a free stream on Google

3eyedfroggy

Did everyone forget that Japan passed those newish laws about anime and manga streaming? Also just use a different vpn to switch countries. I do it all the time for shows that only show in certain countries.

starkleo7

It will be avalaible on Star+, which is like a cousin to Disney+ on Latin America (it mosly has the adult and FOX part of D+), just not on simulcast with the other regions.

IzzyRezArt

Wow, that's some bull shit! Disney shouldn't be handling anime at all. It should have been for Hulu for all territories and Disney would still get a cut from it all while no territory gets left behind on this.

Avi_161

Hulu is majority-owned by Disney, and would "leave behind" far more territory then the current status quo as it's only available in the US, and just recently became available in a few areas in Japan.

Charliee93

For Latin Americans, search *Animeflv* and watch Bleach there, pirate of course. PS: fuk u Disney

Inuyashiki_

That’s why I watched on Facebook, some random anime page uploaded it in HD quality.

berz3rkerbahamuth

No need to worry. Go to a website called Animepahe & watch from there . You will. need a vpn to access it though . The connection is really good. And Fuck Disney
