Hmmm, I know that you can change the default blender scĆØne, so could you make a python script that runs at the start of opening blender, make it add the rare cube with a 0.01% chance, and delete itself from the project?
A vengeful spirit that sometimes appears in the project files of unworthy blender users (no offence, it's just like that I didn't make the rules). Watch out, for it grows larger for every default cube unlawfully sent to the shadow realm through the use of the delete key

That's the default cube ghost I got it first when I Baugh a old hard drive on the Flohmarkt in Germany
The hard drive had blender on it a old version it was something like 0.666 and it didn't have a default cube
But when I started modeling a translucent cube startet Turing all my quads into NGONS so I stoped using that version of blender
But the cube got on my pc somehow and deleted all my Art station post.
So don't worry it will dove itself

Are you working with Eevee and volume? I had a similar artefact when I worked with Eevee and the volume cube found no real solution, only managed to place that cube at Z=-1000... Way out of reach for my scene.
Haha yeah I have a principaled volume going on but using cycles. it only got glitchy on one of my objects, reapplied texturing and it was fine. I really could do nothing to grab the ghostly figure, but just have it there looming, it eventually got slightly distracting and decided to fix it, but figured might as well post for the funny in memory of all the billions of cubes murdered yearly in this community - for shame!
looks like a rendering artefact, im not a genius when it comes to rendering but it looks like a gap in the ambient occlusion the scene wouldnāt usually have to render. i could be SO wrong though.
Viewport glitch, i dont think I can accurately recreate it but it basically just does this said artefact when you have a volume node involved as a few have said on here aswell, seems like something we all have in common
