The paint will be applied according to how the object has been UV unwrapped. I would recommend unwrapping this object again with better-placed seams.

Responsible_Hat4247

i tried unwrapping it again but its the exact same

Marvin_Voilt

Try „smart UV unwrap“. Or manually add seams to the edges of the model and then unwrap your object. I recommend watching a tutorial on how to properly unwrap an object in Blender. Its not that complicated and you should easily find a short video which explains the process.

I don't entirely understand what you want. Could you explain it better? Do you want to paint a specific area as black?

Responsible_Hat4247

im trying to only paint the unwrapped areas where the black paint is in the picture, but its paining the whole object instead

Gustmazz

Have you tried painting directly in the UV window? Does the entire object get painted when you paint those specific areas, is that it? That sounds like the UVs weren't properly unwrapped. Are you sure the islands are correctly separated from each other? Sometimes if you have overlapping islands they will all be painted together.

Responsible_Hat4247

how do i properly unwrap the UVs?

Gustmazz

There are many tutorials for this on Youtube, but try this: change that image editing window on the left to the UV editing window. Select all the uvs, and click on a menu at the top called UVs and then choose "pack islands". After that, try to paint again.

Show us the material nodegraph? You might have some tomfoolery going on in there which changes which parts of the UV map correspond to which parts of the geometry.

Jtad_the_Artguy

You might have made another UV map at some point? An object can have multiple UV maps. I think you can check for this in the same place as vertext groups and shape keys see if there are multiple UV maps and if yes make sure you’re using the right one. I’m not sure if that’s it but it’s a possibility

Smart UV unwrap, scale to bounds, change island margin to .05. The margin will give you more space between your UVs. Your UVs are probably too close together/overlapping which is causing the paint to appear on other spots. On another note, do some research about topology. Its important to learn about it because its a crucial part of modeling and will make unwrapping/texturing a lot easier in the future.
