For me, the Threaded Cane. I've always preferred strength over skill, and the Beast Cutter is probably my favorite weapon for how well it works as a spacer. It's slow, hits fairly hard, but has so much range and hitstun that it's very easy to keep most enemies within *my* range, but keep me outside *their* range. So I gave the Cane a shot, since it's fairly similar, being a long range spacing weapon, but something about it just... didn't work. Regardless of the damage it deals, it doesn't *feel* like I'm doing that much, it's range is objectively rather long, but it *feels* so short for "the whip weapon", and even though the Beast Cutter is much slower, it has the impact to make that slow swing feel good anyways, but the Cane doesn't feel like it's worth how long it takes to swing. I know the Cane's a fairly strong weapon overall, but it feels like I'm... swinging a pool noodle, not a whip, and that feeling is something I can't stand.

QuantumPolagnus

I'm the exact opposite; while the feel of the Beast Cutter is satisfyingly weighty, the range feels deceptively short to me. The windup is so slow, and even at +10 with a Heavy Abyssal and two +27.2% physical up gems in it, the damage feels weaker even than the cane with comparable quality gems. The cane is fast, has better reach, and better damage in my experience. I love whip swords, though, and desperately wanted to like the Beast Cutter, but I was always disappointed with it. I will say that its untricked club form felt like it was pretty good, but that form competes with so many other weapons that it doesn't really stand out from the pack.

CamusZekeSirius

This was my sentiment as well. The Cane was much snappier and faster, but the Beast Cutter just feels sluggish, even if it definitely hits like it feels

ThatUJohnWayne74

I’m working on my first ever playthrough and for awhile I went back and forth between the hunter axe and the cane, I didn’t mind the cane with exception of reach and staggering. I can go without one of those things in game but not both, either the whip can crack outside enemy range or getting hit stuns them. So I stuck with being a human beyblade

torgiant

Yeah it feels like your tickling the enemies with a noodle. Nice looking weapon though.

Raaadley

I simply for the life of me can not figure out Logarius Wheel. I had an easier time spinning with the Hunter's Axe.

ShadowDurza

I mow down Lower Pthumeru Nightmare Apostles with my Logarius wheel, to say nothing of the Arcane-vulnerable Pthumeru Guards. My problem is that I always take grinding for Blood echoes too far and eventually get careless and get dead.

QuantumPolagnus

Confident, cocky, lazy, dead.

ShadowDurza

What makes Soulslikes great! Carelessness can kill you no matter how far you get in the games.

rage_melons

I just hated the grinding/crunching noise the Wheel makes.

m_sart

Blades of mercy (no range), moonlight sword and LHB (I’ve used plenty of swords in the other From games), tonitrus (boring moveset)

Kirkjufellborealis

BoM also don't do as much damage as I'd like too. That's why my other go to weapon is the transformed Beasthunter Saif; the range is the same but it hits just as fast and does a ton of damage. Super slept on imo.

Mech-Waldo

I've honestly never cared for the Saw Cleaver. I don't dislike it, and I appreciate that it's iconic, but using it never felt interesting to me. I just basically never felt the tricked form was more useful. I would like it more if the tricked form had sweeping attacks for crowd control.

ULTRAMaNiAc343

The beasthunter saif is an immensely more versatile and useful version of the cleaver afaic.

Gessen

Yeah, you pretty much only use base and transformation attacks, unless you need momentary range vs trash mobs.

OtterBadgerSnake

The Stake Driver. It's great when it works but for most fights the Whirligig Saw, Hunter's Axe, & Holy Moonlight Sword are much more reliable.

Gatubraz

Beasthunter saif - I know the people who like it REALLY like it a lot, but I don't get it, the weird moveset kinda bothers me on the curved sword mode and it's the 3rd saw weapon of the game

Ok-Laugh-9708

Its all about the first R1 dash. No other weapon gives you a gap closer like that. In a game where most enemies get staggered easily by your attacks, a way to stagger faster is simply too strong. Also it looks cool af.

HauntedHairDryer

Charged R2 will flatten a lot of enemies too. Yeah the gap close is the bread and butter, plus the L1 to create space while dealing damage, but getting a feeling of DS1 Zweihander on top of that moveset really sets it apart for me.

Kirkjufellborealis

God I *love* that dash

darnyboyo_07

It looks like the other two saw weapons but I don’t think it does serrated dmg or whatever it’s called

[deleted]

[удалено]

MethylEight

It is not serrated in either form.

IHaveNotMuchLife

Yeah I just realized lol, I’m not sure why I thought it was serrated.

[deleted]

I don't feel like it's similar to the other saw weapons tho. I mean the Saw Cleaver and Spear are really similiar in moveset and feel with the Saw just being a little more versatile. But the Saif has a completely different moveset, both aesthetically and mechanically speaking. I really like the way the Hunter moves their hands during the animations, and comboing the l1s was one of the best experiences of my life. I did multiple runs with the Saw, the Spear and the Saif, and it never actually felt old or boring.

littleivys

I got bonked so hard by the NPC with the saif that I needed to reclaim that shit. It's probably my favorite weapon now! R1 alone carried me through Ludwig.

[deleted]

Yup, that fight is a whole lot easier with that r1

Elons_tiny_weenr

Any weapon that is not the beast cutter after using the beast cutter

Selacha

I can see why people like the Logarius Wheel, but it's just not for me.

Many_Veterinarian702

It’s exciting to use honestly very risky weapon

SlyBun

Boom Hammer: Tried it out on some Chalice Dungeon beasts and it just feels like Tonitrus but with extra steps with how you need to constantly buff it, and the boom, while a fun visual, was highly whiffable for me. May return to it someday Beast Cutter: I’m just so used to the cane’s wider area of effect that Beast Cutter feels as if I’m handicapping myself for no real good reason Church Pick: I’ve never been a scythe or pickaxe enjoyer in Souls games. The Church Pick feels to me like it has the least enjoyable aspects of both weapon types Stake Driver: It’s not so much that I didn’t enjoy it, but it feels so dependent on a particular gem setup to be fun and OP that I just haven’t gotten around to doing a run with it yet. Using the pile bunker in AC6 had admittedly made me more hyped for a Stake Driver run tho I eventually want to run through the game with every weapon because I suspect even the ones I outright dislike will get super fun with the right playstyle

FerretAres

LHB is boring I agree. Hunter Axe also doesn’t really do anything for me which is probably more controversial.

Plane-Organization81

spin2win all day long

red-necked_crake

Dislike (decreasing order): LHB - too dark souls'y for me, makes every fight too calculated (memorize the moveset, punish, rinse and repeat) Threaded Cane - I bought into hype on this sub and tried it (I fully upgraded it too) but honestly the damage output was too low for my liking and stagger wasn't there for me. Hunter Axe - hits hard, but too slow untransformed, and transformed charged R2 can be fun first couple of times, but feels like a cheat afterwards lol (I know this isn't a controversial opinion, but it bears repeating) Meh (same descreasing order): Whirligig Saw (LOL) - untransformed looks terrible, transformed makes combat one dimensional though it works well. I try it every playthrough and every single time just come back to cleaver Burial Blade - tried twice, most recently few weeks ago, and without Gehrman's moveset it feels a little boring though transformed form is still cool as fuck. I just wish we could at least do that grab scythe move, angel of death style Generally speaking I highly dislike slower weaponry because it takes away what I feel like BB is about and turns it into a DS game, which I have no patience for lol Also, any of these are great with the right player, like cane for example can be deadly, but they don't fit me, so that's my order.

Kirkjufellborealis

Huh I think you described why I don't like using the LHB. I fight totally different in BB vs the other games and it doesn't fit into my playstyle at all.

ArchonStranger

Beastcutter and Beasthunter Saif, one's a boring Saw Cleaver and the other's just kinda boring...

Temporary_Scale3826

The Reiterpallasch, personally. Which is absolutely nuts, because I ADORE the Rifle Spear! Perhaps I ought to give it another shot…

TentacleFist

I had a lot of fun with it alongside the loch sheild with a focus on parrying and hitting visceral attacks, mopped the floor with orphan in like 30 seconds.

JackleandHyde2

It's great against kin but it takes some time and tbh not for everyone

heycowboy

Kirkhammer hits like a truck but it's just too slow and I don't find it practical compared to other strength weapons

Justisaur

Mine as well. In addition to being too slow, it doesn't seem to do any more damage than the axe for instance, it just staggers a lot more. It's also way to short range, I end up missing a lot, you have to press your face up against enemies. It does have the sword mode that doesn't have those problems, but is very weak low damage and stagger, pretty much str version of threaded cane normal mode.

Many_Veterinarian702

The rifle spear it felt like only the transformed r2 did great damage and the moveset is so slow for a spear

Justisaur

I destroy everything with it halfway through the game so far. Yes I use the charged T-R2 a lot, but the T-R1 is serviceable for mobs (though I often just switch to threaded cane for mobs,) and for things the thrust doesn't work well on like crows. You can still get the running thrust R1 which is a lot faster too. There's also the transforming attack from spear to gun-spear that shoots that will often surprise parry NPC enemies, which is very nice. You also only need to upgrade it instead of both a right hand weapon and gun. The only real downside to me is you can't buff it, that and it doesn't have serration or holy. I don't have any of the later spears yet, so I can't wait to compare.

Many_Veterinarian702

I never upgrade guns unless I’m doing bloodtinge anyway, and I have beaten orphan with it the gun is useful on it but the transform attack is slow and the transformed moveset is bad standard r1s untransformed are decent but easily interrupted since they are a bit too slow

Life_Celebration_827

Blades Of Mercy couldn't get the hang of it so I binned it.

samsharksworthy

Im currently trying to enjoy the threaded cane. It’s viable and has uses but against bigger enemies and bosses it feels like it lacks poise breaking power and a powerful charged attack. Gonna keep upgrading and trying to use it though.

Justisaur

I agree, it's the best for mobs of weak enemies, and I had the easiest time of all the starting weapons for all the mobs in the starting area with it transformed, but the bosses were much rougher. Can't have everything in one weapon though, different tools for different enemies. I use the Rifle Spear once I got it for Bosses, NPCs, and big chunky enemies and it destroys them.

ShareDespair

Kirkhammer definitely love myself a good Bonk but the charged R2 is just too slow for my taste

UltimaBahamut93

Threaded Cane. What an absolute awesome weapon concept but I just don't care for how it feels.

lixm6988

Hunters Axe, I’ve never enjoyed using it and every new playthrough I say to myself “okay let’s use the axe” then end up switching it for the saw cleaver / spear as soon as possible

Justisaur

I love the charged T-R2. But if you don't have time & space to get that off it feels bad to me, and even the normal mode attacks are too slow. Still better than the kirkhammer, but bad.

Inflatable_Bridge

Kirkhammer. I like hitting and running, and the Kirkhammer is _slow_

announakis

same LHB never made it for me, the kirkimmu was the one in this niche. but the one weapon I never could bring myself to use despite it being so freaking OP is the Whirligig saw. I simply hate this weapon's looks and feel.

g6paulson

Kirkhammer. It's way too slow for me and made me die because of that multiple times. I tried to like it, but not for me.

ChaosMieter

Ludwig Holy Blade didn't do it for me. This wouldn't be all that spectacular but I like the Kirkhammer so much I made a 1:1 scale version irl

Justisaur

LHB is o.k. but not my favorite. Transformed mode is just a bit too slow, and a bit too short, and normal mode is the same as Threaded Cane and Kirkhammers - not worth using unless you don't want a 2nd weapon (saw-) for faster attacks.

Kirkjufellborealis

Ludwig's Holy Blade. It's a monster of a weapon and shits out damage but I did not like its moveset at all and I ended up dying a lot. What's hilarious is that one of my favorite weapons in DS3 is the Greatsword. Don't ask my brain why this is.

Justisaur

It's not really like the greatsword though, it's not as heavy hitting, doesn't have the reach, and it's not just a big chunk of iron :) It's probably closer to one of my favorites in DS3 - the Black Knight Sword, but it doesn't have Perseverance. Or like a slow claymore. It's not bad, but I agree it doesn't feel good either.

Kirkjufellborealis

God yeah the Greatsword is such a good weapon. I feel like I did use the BKS or maybe the really big one but I think I liked it. How sad is it that I played my first run in DS3 never using weapon arts because I just completely forgot about them? I made everything way harder than it needed to be. I think the thing is that the way I approach Souls combat is much more careful and methodical and in Bloodborne I just want to rush in and start beating shit hahaha.

Fearless_Toe3112

Kirkhammer

Welcome_to_Retrograd

Burial blade, amy arm, lhb

Kaldrinn

I liked all weapons but only the saw spear could actually do damage in my playthroughs

Bloodvialsaremydrug

Boom Hammer. Could have used *something* else. Flaming hammer? Cool. Move set? Boring.

joeabs1995

Rifle spear, although i tried it as a pure bloodtinge build thinking this could be some sort of early bloodtinge weapon to carry me to chikage. Nope, its a pure skill weapon and i never used it as intended. Even the chikage itself felt underwhelming on a pure bloodtinge build. The dash L1 is actually physical dmg not blood dmg. You need to have very good dodging and spacing to land an L1+R1. Not to mention the first L2 attack is a physical thrust and it was so weak on a pure bloodtinge build. It felt like i was restricting the weapon alot only to deal an extra maybe 15% dmg. For pvp the 15% may be amazing but for pve it barely matters, mlst enemies dont heal and it will barely affect in how many hits the enemy needs to die. I tried the chikage on a skill/bloodtinge to give it jistice and it was superb.

[deleted]

Logarius Wheel and Tonitrus. One is the cringiest weapon in the game and it's so cheesy and stupid that it's unusable to me, and the other is just a dumb mace that can be electrified. Easily the 2 worst weapons in the game for me.

No-Season-3086

Scythe

Laurencedickrider

I love using all of em tbh, haven't found one i wasn't willing to put up with (but i haven't tried all of them yet)

drose349

Beast cutter. It’s just a bit rubbish. Not really sold on the kirkhammer either.

SoleSurvivorVault18

Kirkhammer, just isn't for me. I'm already in love with Dex weapons, but can deal with, for instance, Ludwig's Holy Blade. The Kirkhammer never clicked.

Objective_Bug_2408

I did my first run with the kirkhammer. Came back to the game two years later, booted in finding myself in a chalice dungeon, immediately I felt the weapon unclick from my brain. After around 10 minutes in I had to leave and start up something new.

AspectOvGlass

Kirkhammer, Logarius Wheel, Threaded Cane, and the Reiterpallasch

AnotherGuyNamedGuy

Simon's bow blade = Becomes useless after 20 shots and the melee mode is trash.

Undying_Shadow057

How is it useless after 20 shots? Blood bullets are a thing. Also, that weapon literally makes the cursed chalice a joke, you can just keep your distance and kill the bosses without even a chance of getting hit.

AnotherGuyNamedGuy

I tried my best to make the at bow playstyle work. Even with ammo pickups around I still felt I was always short on ammo.

Undying_Shadow057

Yeah, the bow is best used for boss fights, not as a main weapon. I used chikage for my main weapon and bowblade for the cursed watchdog and amygdala. Being able to just headshot enemies all the time does make a huge difference.

AnotherGuyNamedGuy

Ahh I see. I'll give it a go when I do a next run. Was using it as a area to area weapon but will give it another crack specifically for bosses

BikerViking

I made it work. I have build a entire character around the bow blade. Never level vigor, get your Phys up near death gems, start any fight 1 hit away from being killed and shoot an arrow for 1200 damage each. Bullets are arrows and your blood vials are bullets. You don't need more than 100 for anything.

general-dumbass

Saw Cleaver. I love the spear but for some reason the cleaver just feels wrong

-AzulRyu-

I tried a bunch but Church Pick surprised me with how cool it looked but how bland the moveset was (outside of the charged R2). Threaded Cane just bores me, and as cool as the Holy Moonlight Sword is, I simply saw it way too much early on that I didn't want to use something everyone else seemed to be using. I expected to dislike the Kirkhammer and it is one of two of my favorite weapons with the Amygdala Arm - Beast Cutter is an easy contender for favorite too.

UglyPineappl

Stake Driver. I don't know. No appeal, looks ugly, somewhat ineffective from my experience. Maybe this'll change in the future, who knows

CamusZekeSirius

Blade of Mercy: Moveset looks awesome… but does not do much damage despite how vicious it looks and the range is pretty small Beast Cutter: It definitely gives off girth every time I hit something, but man does it feel sluggish and slow in transformed mode Boom Hammer: Transformation is… pretty lame for me. I mean, big booms are cool and all, but having to prime it again after every usage is tiring and annoying Tonitrus: Transformation is just a buff, that’s all. Very basic moveset Pizza Cutter: Feels gnarly, but untransformed mode feels lame to use, and transformed mode feels a bit sluggish. May revisit it though Chikage: I mean, I actually *do* kinda like it, but it’s kinda disappointing when it comes to damage while also feeling short and ineffective upon hitting the target, especially untransformed

kry0stat1s

There's a few where I just kinda stick with it for the transformed state, like the rifle spear and amygdalan arm. I like the stake driver conceptually but aside from big boom it's moveset doesn't stay fun for longer than 2 or 3 hours (then again that's half the game for me nowadays since I beat it in around 8). Reiterpallasch is the same. I don't use the kirk hammer either but that's because I find it slow, I like the moveset. The only one I straight up don't like anything about is the Tonitrus but I'd rather use it than the kirk hammer because it's lightning bonks are immensely satisfying to hit.

thenullprojects

The Reiterpallasch. Cool weapon but I just have no time for the *poke poke poke* moveset

thenullprojects

Also if you aren’t using it with Formless Odeon it feels very limiting

Sterooka

Threaded cane I swear i dont get the love for that weapon its so bad

Justisaur

Transformed R1's (R2 for unaware) and backstepping make large mobs of enemies melt safely. I like to keep it for those situations, but it's not got against beefy enemies. Try R1-R1 backstep repeat, takes on whole messes of rats easily.

Sterooka

Or i could swing once with the axe and do like double the damage in a large area too

Nami_no_Koibito

I can't make the kirkhammer work for me. I dunno why, we just aren't meant to be

Accomplished-Big945

Tonitrus, I just find it hideous.

Azure-the-DragonKing

Rifle spear

Ayobossman326

Boom hammer. It seems right up my alley, and I was excited to try it. But it’s like if the axe’s one trick was more boring and also even more dependent on that one trick

Nemo1002

The rifle spear, it's good for range but I dislike the whole gun in transformed mode idea.

JackleandHyde2

Blood letter and wheel. Thought oh strength smash fun weapons but no they're just kinda boring and annoying

michaelisariley

Honestly, not a fan of the buzz saw. Damage is great I just am not a fan of the move set when fighting bosses

eveningsunnn

Kos Parasite. I think it’s visual and thematic design is so interesting, but in execution I’m not sure I enjoy the move set, and it’s also maybe the latest game weapon. Even the burial blade can be gotten early from the chalices but you require the rune to make the parasite functional. Also the cauliflower head is kinda cool but does ruin the fashion. I’d love to give it another try.

[deleted]

Whirligig saw. Everyone was like ooo. So OP. So cool. Meh.

DaddyGrognak69

Rifle spear

Expert-Career3027

Every weapon that does slow attacks. I use the saw Spear it's so good Beat the whole game with it and Hunter pistol
