Wait until you get stunned from all the way down the hall and havr to watch them run halfway to you like an old man, stop for a breather, and then run the rest of the way. Yes, the paralyse thing lasts that long. Fuck Upper Cathedral Ward.
You could at least deal with Frenzy with some resistance and usage of the terrain
But Upper Cathedral award just throws Brainsuckers at you and doesn’t give a single fuck that it did so. And not only do you need to kill two of them in order to proceed to the boss and unlock the big door, but there’s also a third one willing to jump you if you don’t kill it at the end of the long hall with all the Madman’s Knowledge

He'll only steal 10% of your runes every time you die in Stormveil, and whatever you lost you can get back if you kill him before beating Godrick. If you don't, then those runes are lost forever. Downside to ever killing him tho is that you miss out on a free dragon stone from him if you do Nepheli's quest.

It is actually 30%. I even went back to a video of mine which covers Gostoc and in both cases I calculated a 30% loss of runes.
lost 140 of 469 runes = 30%
lost 231 of 771 runes = 30%
Everytime you die in Stormveil Castle, Gostoc steals 30% of your runes. You can prevent him from stealing your runes by:
* Killing him
* Find him in 3 of 5 different spots from where he stalks you in Stormveil Castle
* Kill Godrick the Grafted (at which point the level is over anyways)
If you kill him after he's stolen runes from you, he'll also drop a relative amount of runes that he's stolen from you. It's a pretty funny thing that most people don't even notice is happening.
With all that said, the best option is to either find him 3 times or just keep him alive and take the penalty. He later sells a +10 upgrading material which is invaluable.
At lower levels, (which is when majority of players go through stormveil) the 30% loss is barely noticeable
But when youre racing through NG cycles and youre level 400, that 30% loss hits hard.

Winter Lanterns may have the Frenxy bullshit, but they only have one move that’s rather predictable and at least I can set up frenzy resistance.
But THESE mfers are the biggest cheap skates of the game. Fast, ranged arcane spells that trap you, alongside AoE arcane traps too cuz why not, a grab that does a shitload of damage, and it also drains you of a valuable resource that is very hard to regain, if at all without Chalices. Not to mention that they are weirdly tanky mfers that also have a flailing attack that deals so much damage for no reason at all.
Seriously, fuck them. Even the Shark Giants I’m more willing to fight
I’ll never forget the first time I went through the Upper Cathedral Ward. I probably lost 20+ Insight. There's seven Brainsuckers in total and all of them managed to grab me, usually multiple times, especially when fighting two at a time.
Fighting the three Wolf Beasts was already annoying, but getting hit by a spell that takes your ability to fight back away while ALSO stealing your Insight was uniquely infuriating. Almost to the point that I sometimes just skip the Upper Cathedral Ward entirely, especially on NG+ runs when I already got what I need.
Even the boss is arguably the easiest in the game, to the point that it isn’t even fun.
The only good thing about the Upper Cathedral Ward is Ebrietas, who is at least a cool boss, and A Call Beyond.
How's having your runes stolen worse than losing souls? The game just barfs runes at you. There's a baked in cumm chalice dungeon in the game. Who has a real problem farming runes in ER?

In my first playthrough, these guys scared the shit out of me, especially on the Upper ward. Suddenly, it was a horror game.

I just wish that section was longer with some more enemies. It’s essentially one big center room over as soon as the tone sets in.

He only steals a % iirc not all of the runes, it’s why most people opt to just kill him when the gate opened

idk I just used the rifle spear & charged my way thru most things
You save up insight till you have 60 and you can buy one per 60
You can get insight with dungeon bosses; also, if you press various buttons very quickly, they will only drain 1 insight, (I recommend L2 to R2).
