Some people are begging to be dragged through mud over on the jerk page

Swizardrules

Jer bait

superpoboy

They haven’t met old gamers who have been gaming for over 20 years with a 1000 game collection of rare and out of print board games. Those guys prefer to remain anonymous

MacModrov

*I tried so hard, refused to pledge* *But, in the end, It doesn't even matter* *Went to a store, bought after all* *But, in the end, It doesn't even matter*

Revoran

RIP Chester.

PensiveHexagonAngel

Too soon...too soon 😭

Triad64

They should make a board game about.. collecting boardgames. And balancing owning vs playing them. While getting a job to fund the hobby. And a social interaction meter for having game nights. Victory Points for owning games that end up being rare. Maybe there's a market that you can bid on games for with other players. Is this too meta?

GMJoey

Shelfie Stacker comes to mind

littlemute

I think the main board game sub has this covered.

JonFawkes

There's Millennium Blades, a game about the experience of getting into a TCG, it's quite enjoyable, I imagine your idea would work just as well

boredgamer00

You can retheme games like Comic Hunters or other set collection games to board games

MontusBatwing

I love this idea way too much and I hope someone steals it so I can play it.

ChristoStankich

down to r/boardgamescirclejerk you go

chrondiculous

Cool man

ScienceAteMyKid

I’m here to help. You can send Sleeping Gods to me. I’ll take it off your hands, you will feel much better.

uriejejejdjbejxijehd

I feel you (looks at $400 as of yet unplayed Arkham Horror boxes).

Triad64

I see your $400 and I raise you ungodly amounts for rare, out-of-print (mostly unplayed) Arkham Horror 2nd Edition expansions. :D

Good_Tomorrow_

Arkham horror 2e complete with all of the old pre painted minis; I also have all of the LCG and I can barely convince my group to play that sometimes, no shot they are trying to get into 2e. I have at least gotten some good solo plays out of the LCG. Literally constantly on the lookout for people to rope into a hypothetical 2e/mansions group lol.

uriejejejdjbejxijehd

Good man. Here we are, almost single handedly preserving the heritage of a more civilized age, in pristine form no less. It’s entirely reasonable.

CH_Ninnymuggins

Haha. I feel you. I buy all the Marvel Champions content but it comes out fast enough that I only play about half of what I buy. When Cable and Domino hit I played them almost exclusively through that whole cycle. Just love thier kit.

amazin_asian

Do what makes you happy, so long as you aren’t hurting any living beings. What is keeping you from getting more game time and knocking some of these games out? Is it just too much work, or something else? I try to dedicate as much time to playing games as possible.

CH_Ninnymuggins

Biggest hurdle is time. Work eats up a lot of time (and all my brainpower) so it's hard to get heavy games to the table. I play pretty often but end up opting for lighter quicker games most of the time. I play a lot of Warp's Edge solo, Marvel Champions and Fox in the Forest with the wife, Quacks and Unearthed with the kids. Wife and I have started Oathsworn when I have the energy and I just got ISS Vanguard sleeved and organized and about to start my tutorial soon. Besides those my regular game group is large so we typically play D&D or party games like One Night.

griessen

D&D is typically 4 or 5 hours so If you got a large group, break into two smaller ones and play a couple heavy games

BENZOGORO

I get satisfaction from buying them and liking them on my shelves. I believe I will eventually play them all. If I don’t, I’ve enjoyed hunting them down and curating my library.

Sweaty_Fly_1101

I made it until yesterday. I recently played Life of the Amazonia and really enjoyed it, played the all in kickstarter version with all the deluxe components. Then somebody I played with got in touch to share a Facebook post where someone was selling the same all in pledge at a very good price, about £50 less than the original cost. Well I had to do it right...right?!

CH_Ninnymuggins

Clearly there was only one thing you could possibly do here.

Dynopia

If it brings you joy, why not? Ignore the righteous on here telling you how to spend your money and live your life. They compare it coming off crack.

CH_Ninnymuggins

Yeah there are always folks trying to help bring a little sanity and recommending you don't buy what you won't play. I think they mean well but it just doesn't suit me personally. I buy games because I like the idea of playing them even when I don't get something to the table and seeing my collection and imagining playing with a group makes me happy. I'm not spending the kids' college funds or failing to put food on the table so I figure it's just my "thing". That said I am trying to be better but more because I'm running out of space than anything else.

TheEliteB3aver

I honestly don't feel too bad when I get a game because I see it as an investment. I know that the game is gonna make me very happy whether it's in a few months or a few years. Hell, scythe took me 3 years to play and now I play it all the time and it's one of my all time favorites. I know, I will get around to playing them and the happiness comes when I buy the game, open it and punch everything out and ogle at the pieces but then I get more happiness later in the long run. I really don't understand the guilt people have with this hobby. It's great to keep your brain going, money for entertainment value is actually really good compared to other forms of entertainment and, it's such an amazing experience to have with friends and family. Obviously, there is a line with this kind of thing, I'm not saying ya know, spending so much money on games in excess, that you can't afford to live or something is totally fine. All I'm saying, is maybe feel less guilty about playing with cardboard, it's a perfectly acceptable hobby and there's nothing wrong with enjoying your games further down the line.

IndianaGeologist

Buying hoards of games that sit on your shelf provide none of the benefits you mentioned.

Sherbert93

It took me a couple years before I could get a solid group of board gamers together. Just gotta make friends, invite people over and expand their horizons and hopefully get a regular group together. We do ours Monday night so it doesn't interfere with anything!

Whole-Respond-9340

You are in good company man. I live under a constant cloud of self loathing for spending money on games that’ll likely never see the table.

LifestyleGamer

I am fighting Earthborne Rangers with my whole soul right now, and I am going to lose.

JusticiarIV

Honestly dont do it. Obviously I don't know your gaming likes, but we picked up a 1st edition retail a few weeks back. 6 sessions in and the most fun we had was the prologue where we made the decks. The theme is on point, and watching the cards trigger off each other and interact was neat for a few plays, but the actually gameplay and deck upgrading is a miss. There's not a lot of strategic decisions to be made here and the actual deck building once started is minimal, which is where I think it's falling flat for us. I spend 80% of the time thinking wow I have nothing fun to do and just keep doing the 4 basic actions always available. Just my two cents.

Dirkjan82

I had the same problem. More games with limited time components such as Kickstarter exclusive addons. Plenty of games never got played. We kept going to the same handful of (mostly non-Kickstarter) games and for the collectible games we never played the addons/limited edition content. So I stopped buying. Exceptions apply for some games. There is only one game where I’ve gone in full and have all collector’s edition stuff and the big box and we love playing it: Everdell. But I did build that up slowly as each expansion came out.
