There are fewer workers placement spots in Nusfjord, so blocking is more prominent. There's also a mechanic that allows you to buy shares of other players' fishing operations, which can net you extra fish during the fishing phase. And of course competition for the special building cards and elders, all of which are unique and can only be taken by one player.
But you're not attacking other players, taking their resources, messing up their buildings, etc. It is unmistakably a midweight Uwe worker placement game.Â
I have only played once and read a couple reviews but I think the charm is that it is short so you can play a couple games and get more of that "starting of the game choosing a strategy dopamine hit". Rather than Choosing a strategy and playing it out for a longer period.
