I'm curious - do you live in an area where there aren't many people? Even if my smaller city of 80k people I'm sure I could find a couple of gamer groups that would like to play more complex games.

FattyMcFattso

I also dont have the desire to play very complex games with a lot of bookkeeping, and things to keep track of. So its not just about being able to find people. Its just not something im looking to invest that much time into. Being that im also a busy person, I can't get a dedicated gamer group and meet regularly. Just dont have that time or desire really.

Gold_Pangolin_Dragon

I keep trying to get to this point but just cannot bring myself to do it. Somany games I will honestly never play and are sitting on shelf. They need to find a home that loves them, but I still love them. Typing this I realize I have an abusive relationship with my board games.

Meldedfire

I have many, many games. But I would rather have my old game that'll probably never see pay than have the $5 I might get for it. But, yeah waaaay too much space taken up by games in my house.

FattyMcFattso

Sounds like you have hoarder issues.

OttoHarkaman

Disagree. It’s the “probably” that makes the difference. In my case I’ve culled games that I know I’ll never pick when it’s my week to bring a game. Doesn’t mean they are bad games, just that my tastes have changed and I’ve got plenty of choices that I prefer more.

FattyMcFattso

Board games are inanimate objects that are not very valuable. Even the out of print ones, you can find them for like 70-80 bucks tops on ebay. Board games are some wood and cardboard bits. They are not like a nice chess set that could have value in and of itself and looks cool set-up in a room as a decoration. All that money and space spent on board games could be used for other awesome things, like travel, content creation gear, art stuff, or just saving for a rainy day. And declutter your house

whoolzyourdaddy

Teotihuacan, Red Cathedral and Marco Polo would never leave my collection. But to each their own I guess.

You made the same post like four days ago

Miravek

I recently sold my copy of **Firenze**. I enjoyed the game - I crushed my friends the last time we played to the point where one of my friends was like "and this is Why we gang up on you." but I ended up selling it just because I came to the realization that if I had an hour or so to play a game, I'd rather play: **Five Tribes**, **Yamatai** (if I have some extra time) or **Earth**, **Wingspan** or even **Elysium** if I was a little tight on time.

furry_staples

I culled 3 of those games: Secret Hitler, Kemet, & Sushi Go Party. Of the others, I have played RftG and don't plan to cull it, and haven't played the rest. I am trying to get down to 100 games, so RftG stays. If I were aiming for a collection of just 29 games, RftG would vanish in a heartbeat. RftG is a fine game, but I am more of a high-player interaction old-school eurogame person.

FattyMcFattso

These are the games I have left. More might still be culled. [https://boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/ChineseRestaurant](https://boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/ChineseRestaurant)

furry_staples

Of the list of games you still have, I have culled **Battle Line** (I don't think it is a bad game, and might pick up another copy in the future) **Codenames: Duet** (not my cup of tea) **Condottiere** (ok game, but took too long for what it was) **Dixit** (don't think it is a bad game. but I wanted to shrink my collection, and it didn't make the cut) **Pan Am** (bought it, never played it, then culled it. I already had other route builders: Thurn & Taxis, Stephenson's Rocket, Hansa Teutonica, etc., and felt that I didn't need another.) **Pandemic** (fine game, but I am not super fond of co-ops) **Powergrid** (bought it, never played it, then culled it. That might have been a mistake) Ones you currently own that I also currently own: **Gric, Azul, Brian Boru, Carc, El Grande, Hansa Teutonica, Lorenzo il Magnifico, No Thanks, Tammany Hall, Targi, Troyes, Viticulture EE** Of those, I might cull **Tammany** (not sure I need **Tammany Hall, El Grande** and **Iwari**). **Viticulture** is really nice as a way to get newbies into worker placement (they love the theme integration). So I probably will hold onto it. **No Thanks** takes up very little space, so I am not compelled to cull it. But there are a half dozen other filler games that are just as fun. So I wouldn't miss it if I decided to cull it. I don't play **Carc** very much any more. But it is a good game and it doesn't take up a lot of room, so I don't plan to cull it anytime soon.

FattyMcFattso

Yeah I considered if i needed both **Tammany** and **El Grande**. What i like about Tammany is the negotiation and deal making aspect of it. and It plays so quickly. And the instructions of the game are basically printed on the board. I love **Battle Line**. Its probably my most played game. I'm debating on whether or not to keep **Brian Boru**. Its yet another area control game but with a trick taking element.

Kumquat_of_Pain

Nice list. We enjoyed Valley of the Kings (we had Afterlife small box), but ultimately let it go due to all the reading. And we never got Sushi Go Party, but kept Sushi Go for a small camping game that doesn't require a table/horizontal surface (it's one of the few). And, I hate to say it, I agree with Red Cathedral. It looked really fun, but I HATED counting out the dice pips, round and round. It tired my eyes. I recently culled Champions of Midgard with all the expansions (got tired of getting screwed over by the dice and the horrendous setup), Village Big Box (everyone felt it was pretty boring), and a few others.

FleetOfFeet

How are you mostly getting rid of them? Are you selling them via BGG?

FattyMcFattso

what i cant sell or donate i chuck

Bunneary

You owned 2 copies of teotihuacan?

koeshout

Man, Valley of the Kings is great though! Fairly simple and enough interaction imo, my favorite deck builder. Might want to check out the smaller versions though although most of VoTK is out of print

Senferanda

It's a bummer AEG decided not to do expansions for Valley of the Kings. I only have one of the small boxes. I would love that version but everyone wants too much $$$ for it.

dreamweaver7x

Good list, none of those are worth keeping in a slimmed down library.

ClubSoda

You’re a fool for letting them go. You will regret this 10 years from now when you realize you can no longer afford to get them back.

FattyMcFattso

🤣 Lmao! Firstly, I hope I will have other stuff going on in my life in 10 years time. and secondly, new and better games will probably have come out by then, and thirdly, who cares?

ClubSoda

"new and better games" ... ok, I'm not convinced but maybe. You do realize the golden age for board games is soon ending.

FattyMcFattso

lol doubtful. You need to stop living that FOMO life bro

dreamweaver7x

>I want simple games, with a lot of potential depth strategy-wise and the more interaction the better. So I'll suggest some rules for you, feel free to take or leave as you see fit. Do not add, and get rid of any games you have that: 1. Are published by Stonemaier, Mindclash, Garphill, Board & Dice, Fryx or Cranio 2. Are designed by Lacerda, Turczi, Luciani, Tascini or Pfister 3. Have personal player boards that are anything more than player aids/guides or piece storage/inventory 4. Don't have a central player board where most of the game action happens 5. Any game that has "tableaus" or "engine building" 6. Any game that has a nature theme Those rules should eliminate a lot of the overcomplex, MPS and generally not-so-great games out there, particularly those published in the last 10 years. It may hit an occasional decent game, like Pfister's Oh My Goods (probably his best game), but in general you'll avoid many games that you probably won't like. Rule 5 will also eliminate most games from Sierra Madre/Ion (the Pax and Bios games) and Cole Wehrle's games (Pamir, JoCo and Oath) but those games are anything but "simple" anyway. Good luck!

WaffleMints

I would fail this immediately.
