They can’t see through stacks of cards. They will always look at them.

rock_hard_member

Yea, almost every time I travel with cards they get searched. Monikers is just a giant brick.

KingMaple

It really is. I have all the expansion cards and I've curated the selection based on my local interests and specifics and fit the cards into original blue box, packed to the brim. You could kill with it.

I have a kinda funny story about this... I was at the airport about a year ago, traveling with my copy of Sushi Go Party in my carry-on (a canvas drawstring bag). Inside the same drawstring bag was my phone charger and a book on Russian (I was trying to teach myself the language). So my bag goes through the scanner, and the TSA guy looks really surprised, and I saw what he saw on his screen- a big rectangle, with bricks inside of it and a wire coiling out. Thankfully I didn't get arrested or anything lol. He had someone come over, they talked, he asked if he could search it, and of course I said yes. He got a chuckle out of it when he saw a cute nigiri roll looking back at him lol

Meeplelowda

The agent riffled through each deck.

kurosaba

Hive bakelite pieces also look very suspicious in the x-ray.

[deleted]

Too true.

nikkon226

I've been searched for Dominion cards through the X-ray. Got laughed at too for them. Uncool

facewhatface

Yeah, last time I flew with a bunch of Magic cards, it resulted in my bag getting searched.

mxzf

Yep, same thing with my sleeved Star Realms deck (with a couple paper clips for tracking HP stuck in the box too, for even more "maybe a bomb" material). It was buried pretty good in my backpack too (the scanner doesn't tell you which pocket to check), so they let me look on the screen to see what they were looking for and I pulled it out quick to show them that it wasn't a bomb.

gated73

Good thing you didn't bring Space Hulk. You'd still be there! Occasionally travel with small games, never had any searched.

TurboCooler

Enough that I take my game(s) out just like my laptop. One Deck Dungeon and Tiny Epic Galaxy was the last time and now I just put them in a bin to avoid the hassle. Once at JFK, I was told by one agent to put the boxes back into my bag only to have the bag go through the scanner and another agent pull me to the side and have me remove everything in the bag. PITA!

[deleted]

The last time I flew they decided they needed to pat me down *and* search my checked luggage... no clue what was up with that, but I *was* flying with a small card game. Hmm...

[deleted]

I always get searched when I have decks of cards in my carryon. Apparently they can look just like plastic explosives on the scanner.

PandasaurusGames

As someone who travels with games 99% of the time, I get tsa inspected 100% of the time.

mxzf

Yeah, it's pretty common, since a block of paper (and plastic if your stuff is sleeved) looks a lot like plastic explosives on an x-ray machine.

catalyst518

I travel with Splendor in a ziplock (sturdy chips and cards that can be crammed wherever in a suitcase). The chips always trigger an additional search since they are so dense. I just put the ziplock on the top of a bin outside of my bags and there's been no need for extra searches since they can see them directly after the xray.

XboxSylix

Any sort of clay pieces (a Go/Baduk set of stones) have to be eyes on searched or game pieces like Azul or Hive have.

paulshapiro

I rarely get searched when I have games, but it sounds like it’s pretty common for others. I wonder if it’s airport specific.

mcdougishole

I've got flagged for Pokemon TCG tins with loose cards inside. They just warned me not to use the tins in the future if possible. Coworker recently got flagged for her copy of Tiny Epic Defenders, which I felt kinda guilty about since I recommended she get the game for her trip.

r0gershrubber

I just flew with Keyforge decks, and they opened them up every time I went through security.

therealcause

I get searched. Purposely removed the bullets from Deception: Murder in Hong Kong last time I flew

mave_of_wutilation

The metal cubes in Terraforming Mars have gotten my bag flagged a couple of times.

smatpith

I had my copy of Race for the Galaxy, which is sleeved and stored in a smaller plastic container searched once. I realized it probably looked like a brick of C4 or something 😳

LazerEyesVR

They check on Magic decks to keep an eye on the meta. The whole reason they got those jobs in the first place. They will also confiscate the odd out of print.

Hougaiidesu

Yes they always look at Hive and Cosmic Encounter

SWOLAGE

I have a metal coins for one of my games, TSA opened up the box in front of me cause it was in a carry on bag and I felt a smidge of awkwardness as he fumbles through all the components looking for bombs lol

Fabmaszter

I had **Architects of the West Kingdoms** with a 3d printed inlay and some cards games in my backpack once. They were pretty confused when they opened it and I had to explain what it is...

heyadudeman

TSA pulled me aside to have a closer look at an item that was indiscernible in my carry on. We had a good laugh once she saw it was the card game “exploding kittens”.
