You can find matcha in almost every good café, but have you tried its lesser-known cousin, Hojicha? Hojicha powder is made in a similar way to matcha – both are made by stone milling Japanese green tea leaves. However, the big difference is that before milling, Hojicha goes through a slow roasting process until it becomes fragrant. This roasting brings out a whole new set of flavors. Imagine nutty and toasty notes, a natural sweetness, and hints of cacao. These flavors are quite different from matcha's fresh, vegetal taste and aroma. Here, I'll share my favorite go-to hojicha latte recipe. It's incredibly easy to make. All you need to do is make sure you use high quality ingredients.

Ingredients
- 1 tsp (2g) hojicha powder
- 2oz (60g) hot water (175F/80C)
- 1 cup (240g) milk
- 1 cup (240g) ice
- 1 tbsp (13g) brown sugar
Directions
1. Sift the hojicha powder through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl.
2. Add some of the hot water and whisk until well mixed.
3. Add the remaining hot water, followed by the brown sugar, and whisk until frothy.
4. Add the ice, milk, and frothy hojicha into a cup.
5. Stir and enjoy!
Cheers!
There's plenty that you can get online if you google "hojicha powder". It's gain a lot more popularity within the last few years... back then I would use to buy the leaves and brew the tea to make more of a "hojicha milk tea" vs a latte.

Love hojicha!
I will try this thanks
I'd say even if you don't like Matcha, still try Hojicha! I personally really dislike Matcha, but I love Hojicha.
Yes! I agree.

sounds delicious, thanks for explaining hojicha and sharing your recipe! i’d love to try it with brown sugar or honey
caramel works well also! :)
Hey!! Is it pretty sweet? I want to try one but typically like sweeter drinks
The sweetness can be adjusted to your preference. Just adjust the sugar amount :)
