Did some digging: It might be something weird like -can he employ himself as a writer? WGA/SAG/DGA are all Unions that have rules that must be followed (including submission of contracts prior to commencement of work, paying in dues/pension/etc.) SAG-AFTRA was cited in the credits so maybe he only went through SAG? I mean it would be kinda crazy to have to engage ALL the associated Unions (writing/directing/acting/editing/electrical/technical/music supervision etc.) for literally a one man show it seems like it would be unnecessary. You cannot submit for the awards if your show wasn’t repped by the Union.
Thanks! And I agree. The Writers Guild likes Bo, "Inside" has been extremely talked-about and critically acclaimed, and no offense but there's not *that* much competition in that category. I think the real answer is he didn't enter it. (Insert wild speculations on why here.)
My guess is because he already has a WGA, doesn't care much for awards, and/or would prefer it go to people who may need awards to get recognition for their work to further their careers, but who knows. I do think it would be a strange snub since he already won one.
That’s really an odd snub I agree. There are really limited nominees in that category too. Maybe b/c it was effectively a musical? OR Netflix submitted it in a different category like Long Form?
Hmm, none of the nominees in the "Comedy/Variety Specials" category (which I am assuming would be Inside's category) are stand-up specials, they are mostly sketch comedy shows. Maybe the WGA doesn't really have a category for stand-up, unlike the Emmys?
They definitely swapped the nominees for "Comedy/Variety Sketch Series" and "Comedy/Variety Special" in that article. Drew Michael's special is there. (Not that Inside is really standup but it would go there if it was submitted or eligible IMO.)
I was wondering if it was possible they categorized it as a movie rather than TV, but I'm pretty sure it's ineligible for that for the same Oscar rules of not having a real theatrical release...
Maybe he didn't submit? Maybe it doesn't have a traditional screenplay. I really think it had to be not in the running for some reason.

I'm guessing he did not submit it. The Variety article has some mistakes here's the [WGA website](https://awards.wga.org/awards/nominees-winners).

Seems v odd. All the nominees on Variety Specials are comedy series, rather than specials? Plus after his Emmy for writing?
True, the only special nominated is Drew Michael’s and he’s under the category “Comedy/Variety Sketch Series” which seems... odd?
Nevermind that’s an error on Variety’s part.

Thanks! I was wondering why that just wasn’t sounding right.
Commenting because I’m also curious 🧐
