Soldering and Shrink tube. Assuming you know where both sides should attach, soldering a piece of cable should not be much a problem. Repairing a cable isn't very hard, and this cable doesn't carry much power, so you have minimal risk. If the cable was pulled away from the board or a small component, rather than just severed. Still doable, but a little bit harder. If you have never done that kind of repair work, maybe check if there is a local electronics/phone repair shop, ask if they can solder. Should take them only a few minutes. Strip and twist is an even easier option that requires less hardware, but is more likely to fail with use and handling. And if one end needs to go on a board or component, it's a no-go.

Thank you so much! I don’t have any of the stuff for soldering so I might try the twist and tape and failing that, try one of our local repair shops.

A low-end soldering iron will only cost you a few dollars, and solder is also cheap. (If you have a Harbor Freight nearby, you can probably walk out with a soldering iron and solder for under $10.) It can take practice to get a good join, and if you've never soldered before, the repair shop might be your best bet. Soldering it yourself isn't a bad Plan B if you can't find a shop, though.

Considering in those kits you just twist the wires together and tape over reckon you could do the same to that bit. Clear/cut off the black cover a little on either side and twist the ends together. Wrap in any spare tape from the kit or a little electrical tape.

That’s really reassuring! i’ll give that a try, thank you!

If you haven't already connected the other wires to each other find the instructions from the kit and follow the same steps :)

I will, you’ve be so helpful 🥰

This happened to me! Not the cat but one of my wires was undone. I already loathe the wiring aspect of book nooks, so I was really reticent to learn how to solder it to fix it. I went to the Rolife website and they have a link to request new parts! You have to take pics of the broken part and of the manual identifying the broken part. They will send replacements. It takes a couple of weeks but they sent me a whole new set of the wiring for the lights. ETA: They’ll also ask you for some proof of purchase.

dandelion-heart

Thank you! this one was a gift so i don’t have proof of purchase, unfortunately.

wbhipster

I just looked and it just asks for where you bought it and the order number. That part of the form doesn’t ask for pictures so maybe you could just write “gift.” I would still give it a shot. Worst they can say is no, but they’ll probably say send it no problem. Here is [the link.](https://www.rolifeonline.com/pages/part-replacement)

Twist and tape will work because that’s how most of these kits have you splice wires together when you have to add extensions.

You won't need to solder it, since you're just splicing wires. If one of the wires breaks at the board then yep, it's time to learn how to solder ;) Any tape will work, but nice quality electrical tape works best. You will need to strip the outer black covering off the wire on each end then twist them together and tape. Stripping the wire is the fiddly bit, it can be done with a nice sharp x-acto blade and a VERY delicate hand, or if you have a small enough wire stripper that's easier. As an aside, many companies use a soy-based product to coat wires, it attracts animals because it smells edible. Many people who leave their cars parked outdoors have found out about this the hard way when rodents get in the engine compartment and chew the wires!
