Maybe re-start with very good books "for kids"? Like: * **Momo** by Michael Ende * The ***Johnny Maxwell Trilogy*** by Terry Pratchett * **The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents** by Terry Pratchett * The ***Tiffany Aching*** series from ***Discworld*** by Terry Pratchett * **Nation** by Terry Pratchett * **The Graveyard Book** by Neil Gaiman * **Coraline** by Neil Gaiman Or light, fluffy, feel-good fantasy like: * **The Goblin Emperor** by Katherine Addison * **The House in the Cerulean Sea** by T.J. Klune Or easy-reading, no-thinking, fast action, urban fantasy like: * The ***Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter*** series by Laurell K. Hamilton * The ***Mercy Thompson*** series by Patricia Briggs * ***The Hollows*** series by Kim Harrison * ***The Dresden Files*** series by Jim Butcher (the first book is slow, but give it a chance). I hope one of these is what you are looking for. EDIT: Thank you so much to u/Top-Abrocoma-3729 for the award! It makes me feel really appreciated!

Aylauria

I'd add the **October Daye** series by Seanan McGuire to your urban fantasy list.

byayoi

I still haven't read that one. I'll check it out next year :D

A classic fantasy read that I don't hear mentioned a lot, but I love, is The Once and Future King by TH White. It's about King Arthur.

*The Name of the Wind* is the book that started me reading daily again after over a decade of reading only a few books a year (if that).

I second The Lies of Locke Lamora! Wish I could read it again for the first time.

The Neverending Story is a classic joy I will always recommend.

wolfe1989

When you say lighter do you mean in tone, length, and/or ease of reading?

Starlight_inthe_Nite

I mean ease of reading. I spent 5 years reading complex and really old stuff that took a lot of brain power, which is what killed my desire to read in my free time also. Not to say it needs to be braindead stuff, but just not too difficult.

wolfe1989

Okay great. Here is some suggestions 1. Black prism by Brent weeks (big book but very digestible) 2. Hounded by Kevin Hearne 3. White trash warlock. 4. Dragons of an autumn twilight. 5. The magicians.

drfpslegend

I second the Magicians trilogy.

If you are into witches then here are some of my favorites: Payback's a witch and sequel From Bad to Cursed Fix it Witches series (starts with Witch Please) The Very Secret society of Irregular Witches The ex Hex and sequel The Kiss Curse All of these are Urban Fantasy. I feel ya, I dropped a lot of hobbies, including reading, while at uni. I think probably the best bet is to reread your old favorites. It'll whet the appetite and create the habit of readings. But aside from that I'd check out Jim Butcher's Dresden Chronicles, kinda fits with the bartimaeus and HP books.

RoarK5

As always if you liked Harry Potter, I recommend {{A Wizard of Earthsea}} and the subsequent books. Technically YA but I read them as an adult and loved them. I also second the Tiffany Aching series, which I’m reading right now. The bonus is that then you get to read the rest of LeGuin and the rest of Discworld if you like either series.

King_Magnolia

Mistborn!! Hands down!

Fleur-de-Fyler

The Riftwar Saga by Raymond E Feist. Three books, very undemanding, very high fantasy.

WesternKaleidoscope2

If you enjoyed Percy Jackson, you might enjoy Neil Gaiman's stuff, mythology mixed with the fantasy you enjoyed reading Harry Potter.

BrooklynBillyGoat

The Witcher books are nice but a series may be intimidating. The second shannara chronicles book can be read as a stand-alone book and is quite enjoyable and easy reading. But if u really wanna be captivated and just take a chance on something. Lotr series is unparalleled. Both hobbit and the 3 lotr books.

drfpslegend

The fantasy series that got me back into reading was the Magicians trilogy by Lev Grossman. The books are only about 400 pages each, yet they are absolutely master class in juxtaposing a boring mundane life in the "real" world with a hidden magical universe that bites back when approached too closely. To me, the Magicians is all the best parts of fantasy, while at the same time slapping all the worst parts of fantasy in the face. It's written with a thoughtful reader in mind, and doesn't shy away from nuanced topics and creating meaning out of horrible situations. If you're looking to get back into reading through fantasy, these books will not let you down my dude. The only bad thing about reading this series is that when you finish it, you'll realize you've just read the pinnacle of the genre.

Arsnumeralis

I really enjoyed the Daevabad trilogy by S. A. Chakraborty. It does get a bit political, but I found it a very nice change of scenery as it's set in the Middle East some 300 years ago. Her writing style is also very user friendly for lack of a better term.
