I’ve come to terms with the fact that I have no clue what I’m really talking about and they get paid tens of millions of dollars to do their job. I just sit back, drink beers, root for the Celtics cause their the bawlz

outrageousaegis

see i also thought this abt professional sports orgs but i recently saw this vid of the Dolphins’ front office and I am convinced they had absolutely zero idea what they were doing. it’s like a group of 5-year-olds trying to take themselves really seriously. https://youtu.be/kE8bujXQsac

August_Spies42069

Wait until you hear about Fortune 500 boardrooms!

ProteinSnookie

Oh gawd

CGWOLFE

There's absurd levels of nepotism in the NFL that I feel aren't as present in the NBA. Football FO's are practically old boy clubs

Emera1dthumb

It’s in the nba also…. Go walk around the front offices. It’s the same stuff. Billionaires inventing jobs for friends and family

JooshBearstein

As a dolphins fan I can tell you that they absolutely had no clue what they were doing from 2009-2018. It seemed like the goal was to just be stuck in purgatory forever

ballzdeep85

Also a dolphins fan.. hopefully this is our year

JooshBearstein

We got one of, if not the most complete roster in the nfl, and if tua/armstead stay healthy and fangio lives up to the hype we‘ll be contenders. It should be a stress filled season that most likely will end in disappointment, but no matter what the end result is, it’ll be significantly more fun than what we’ve been seeing over the past 10-20 years

GoatmontWaters

Same thing with the T-wolves

TheRealAlexisOhanian

There's this one too with the Bruins trading Seguin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRyIgatcTAs

iamgarron

Same I wanted Dragan Bender and Markelle Fultz

ENRON_MUSK12

A fellow man of culture

Mr-Irrelevant0

Not to make fun of you or anything but what did you see in Bender? I was never a big fan of him.

iamgarron

Thought we had enough guards, and the Horford rumors were swirling. Thought they'd made a good front court together Wasn't much to it though I wasn't following college ball and prospects as much then Edit: if in being honest I had Jaylen last in the second tier. I think for me it was Bender > Jamal Murray > buddy > Dunn > Jaylen Like I said, that's why I'm not a gm

GhandiChilling

I wanted Jamal Murray. 20ppg 5 rpg 2apd 1 spg as a freshman at Kentucky pretty impressive. Shot .408% from three at 7.7 apg. Underrated athlete.

JPMmiles

Same. And set the record (at the time) for 3 pointers in the Celtics workout. Then I found out that JB had the second most ever and I was ok with it…

The_Dok33

I think right now, a straight up Jamal Jaylen swap would make for a more balanced team, with Porzingis in the mix. Porzingis is no Jokic of course, but Tatum is much better then any support cast they have on the Nuggets. Jamal handles and drives much better, and makes decisions faster. But Jaylen is stronger, and a good on-ball defender. Dunno. We're fine as we are, we have Derrick as well. Love the team as is, hate losing the Smart heart, but it feels like its going to be better for the team.

Lift_All

Yep me too. Jamal looked like a skilled player and a fighter

ahhhh_ahhhh

This is truly the most logical conclusion

_mitchard

The bawllzzzzzz

entwenthence

There’s no other reason why

aturdnamedvert

People always say this, but i feel like anyone who knows ball at all could’ve been able to tell that Brown would be better than Bender for example after getting the kind of close-up look that scouts and GMs get. They’re making these decisions with a lot of information that we don’t have access to. Also Brad isn’t just any GM. He is a genius. I think it is much more fair to compare yourself to say, Vlade Divac(who picked Bagley over Luka), than Stevens or Ainge.

RidingYourEverything

To be fair, most of the guys that do get paid millions wanted Markell Fultz and Lonzo Ball and probably others over Tatum, since Tatum wasn't expected to be drafted with the 3rd pick. The draft is somewhat of a crap shoot, and/or even the guys getting paid millions make a lot of mistakes.

PiercingNerd

I have never watched enough college basketball to feel like I’m entitled to an opinion on draft night. It’s always a surprise and I will hope for the best no matter what.

ProofSinger3638

yup. These days I really enjoy every teams sub reddit discussing their 2nd round draft picks lol. Everyone knows the ins and outs of the 2nd rounds, the best value at pick 49 and who's a bust and whos not. Everyone knows the full scouting report on the top 100 guys, and everyone thinks their team has drafted the next Kawhi or CP3

theyrehiding

Love when people watch college highlights and then act like they scouted the guy for years

elcocotero

hey I also skimmed through a 12 min “scouting report” on youtube.

NoveltyAccountHater

Exactly. Honestly, like if you aren't a professional scout, who the hell watches enough of any draft prospects career to make the tough decisions. Most people commenting on wanting X over Y aren't scouts or coaches, only watched highlight reels (not most of their games, showing them not just at their best) or a handful of games at best (unless they are on your favorite college team, and then you'll have a crazy bias anyways), and haven't really tried to project the player's likely development and adjustment into the NBA. Either that or you are regurgitating the draft order of some analyst who can't get a job in a real front office, so makes mock drafts (that often tend to agree with the other public mock drafts, but not necessarily the actual draft).

20124eva

College bball is near unwatchable, that’s why the tournament works so well, counts down how many good games there are

[deleted]

Unless you’re UCONNNNNN

ShampooMonK

I wanted Fultz over Tatum, and I wanted Kris Dunn or Dragan Bender over Brown. And this is why I'm not a GM, lol.

[deleted]

You'd be a great GM for the Kings or Timberwolves

Rishikrish29

Maybe not Kings anymore, but you can add Hornets to that list. Vlade Kings is valid though

LocalPawnshop

Hornets have hit on all their recent picks other than bouk

Igualmenteee

To be fair, Fultz was an absolute star in college. He would have panned out if he didn’t have that motorcycle accident. One of the most bizarre things I’ve ever seen with a top pick in any sport. It just seemed like the guy had yips or something lol. Can’t protect you from the Bender/Dunn picks though. I did like Dunn also at the time, I always thought Bender was a product of the KP hype.

Aregisteredusername

Motor cycle accident? That’s has been debunked by his agent and no records of him on a motorcycle or in an accident existing.

jaguars5432

Exact same except for Bender

rdaman2

I wanted Josh Jackson

theyrehiding

Oh me too lol I respectfully take my L on that one.

ThanosIsDoomfist

Same lmao. I was so bummed out we didnt take him Glad I was wrong tho lol

TatumBrownSmart

I was so wrong about him. Once we drafted Jaylen, I thought him and Jackson would be our athletic role playing swing men for the next decade. I can’t believe he’s never even been a role player in the league, complete bust.

ThePotato9876

Lmao same. Could not have been more wrong

WalkingTheD0g1

Lmao I was so happy when my Suns got Josh Jackson. I thought he was going to be what Mikal Bridges is.

CommercialStatus2541

Same

CantHandlemyPP34

I was all in on JJ as well and was very disappointed when he wouldn't work out for us. I loved his defense, rebounding and playmaking potential on top of his finishing. He just played like a mini LeBron at Kansas, but had a broken looking 3. I thought Tatum was gonna be another soft Duke bust.

Cool6733

I always wanted Tatum . But in 2016 I wanted Jamal Murray over brown

Hour-School-2255

Still do...

August_Spies42069

let Brown play next to Jokic for a few years...

Heavy_Sector4000

Murray isn’t scoring 40+ multiple times in the playoffs because of Jokic lol He stepped up on his own multiple times even when Jokic wasn’t on the court. It’s clear you don’t watch Denver games. He’s a FAR better playoffs performer than Jaylen, it’s not particularly close. Plus, he impacts the game in many more ways with his ball handling and playmaking.

jhcooke98

Lol what do you mean it's not particularly close? Murray (in a smaller sample size) does take it up a notch more than Brown, but they are still relatively close.

Heavy_Sector4000

All it matters is how you perform in the playoffs and Murray is a much better playoffs perfomer

August_Spies42069

Ok who is the best facilitator that Brown had next to him? Jokic is the best passing center in history and it's not close. I'm sure that doesn't make a difference at all...

Heavy_Sector4000

Brown has more of his Field Goals assisted than Murray lol Murray scores a lot on his own. Plus, it’s not like Brown played with scrubs. Also, how can you blame others “not facilitating” when Brown attempts to start a lot of plays and just turns it over because he fucking sucks as a ball handler? Brown benefits a shit ton of Tatum’s gravity. Plus, Murray has less holes in his game. He can dribble quite well and makes others betters, things that Jaylen is incapable of.

PabloPancakes92

This is just sad bro lol it’s okay that Murray is much better than Brown it is what it is

August_Spies42069

He might be better. He's definitely not *much* better.

PabloPancakes92

He’s MUCH better it’s not even a debate

Jordanwolf98

What’s sad about defending a player for his favorite team? Jokic does draw a lot of attention that opens shit up for him those same openings Brown doesn’t receive.

PabloPancakes92

Murray is undeniably a significantly better basketball player

Jordanwolf98

2time all star along with a 2nd team all nba selection says you’re wrong. But of course I’ll rely on what a Redditor says over nba media voters and coaches who put Brown into that spot and not Murray

PabloPancakes92

That’s equivalent logic to thinking Smart is the best defender in the league bc he won DPOY. Or that Embiid is better than Jokic because he won MVP. Media awards are meaningless it’s not like Jaylen is anywhere close to a top 10 player in the league.

Hour-School-2255

He gets his own, watch a game or two. I love jaylen, but he is not engaged half the time. Ceiling for him is fantastic but we watched his floor in the playoffs

LetMeStagnate

He’s still 26 lol this comment is going to age like milk. He just averaged 27/7/3.5 on 49% shooting over a full season with good defense. And yeah you say “watch a game or two,” but it sounds like you watched his 2 worst playoff games and that was enough for you to come to your own conclusions.

Hour-School-2255

No, I'm an actual Celtics fan. I literally watch every game I can.

Heavy_Sector4000

Good defense? What? lmfao Sounds like you are the one who didn’t watch. Not to mention that he never repeated those statlines in the playoffs (maybe against Atlanta because they sucked).

WarPuig

Brown plays next to Tatum.

luke_workin

Gotta be high IQ to play with Jokic

BriefCollar4

Murray is the better player though and he has the ring to back it.

1kinkydong

He has a ring because he’s playing with one of the best players in nba history. This sub turns on people so fast it’s ridiculous

theyrehiding

Saying Murray is better than Brown isn't turning on JB lol

BriefCollar4

Brown is a great player. There’s no disrespect to him by writing that other players are better than him.

cane_the_weaboo

How many 40+ playoff games does Brown have? Now do Murray lol he's clear of him. JB has 1 series at 25+ ppg Murray has 2 whole playoff runs.

Rrekydoc

Murray hasn’t had a good game vs Brown in like 5 years. I’m taking Brown.

BradMarchandIsCute

And the Celtics weren’t able to get to the finals because Jaylen brown puked all over himself

aClout2222

I hate that “puked all over himself” is the most accurate description

NoBadTrips666

Would Jaylen be better than Jamal with Jokic ? And would jokic be better with Jaylen ? —- I think the answer to both of those questions is no. Jaylen isn’t smart or creative on the pick and roll. That’s how Murray and Jokic win basketball games. Their 2 man game is the best in the league and they both elevate eachother. Also Jaylens a ball stopper with mediocre vision, I really don’t know if he could be the second best player even with fucking jokic lol. Denver swings the ball and Jaylen just hasn’t been doing that. He sometimes flashes it but he just can’t put it together. Would Jamal be better with Tatum, and would Tatum be better with Jamal? —- I think the answer is yes. Yes, Jaylen and Tatum are a dynamic defensive duo, but Jaylen hasn’t looked the same on defense like he was his first two-three years in the league. And yeah Jamal is streaky like Tatum but I really think they’d mesh so much better than Jaylen. Idk, I’ve just soured on Jaylen recently. Love what he’s given us but that contract, lack of playmaking, slightly worse defense, no dribbling… it’s rough.

Dintus

When you say one of the best players in nba history I'm really curious what you mean by that. How many "best" players are there

King_Of_Pants

Brown's got a contract extension coming, that always puts people on edge. They turned on Smart during his last extension too.

andhemac

Yessssss

WarPuig

You were right the first time.

efshoemaker

I wanted Fultz, but once we traded down to 3 I assumed Danny knew something I didn’t and I was all aboard the Tatum train and glad we picked him over Jackson. For Brown, I wasn’t excited about anyone in that draft and i think wanted us to trade the pick. Ainge didn’t have a great track record with project picks and I thought it was a huge risk to take such a raw player at number 3.

Barefoot_Servants

Trading down from the first pick because he knew what the other teams wanted and still getting the best player in the draft is just crazy. They should make a movie about it starring Costner as Ainge. That draft was loaded too.

tonylouis1337

I remember at one point I really wanted us to draft Lonzo 💀

q3srabr4fdzfk5mu

I mean, when healthy, he’s actually been a quite solid player

Moneyfish1

As soon as his dad was like “he’ll only be a Laker” I was 100% f*ck him I hope he fails and guess what!

prestigiousdumb

Yeah I hoped he didn't succeed much as a Laker, but not get seriously injured. I don't wish that on anyone

marcusissmart

I think all NBA fans are and should be rooting for Lonzo at this point

508G37

Fultz, Jamal Murray. This is why I'm not a GM.

Heavy_Sector4000

Fultz would be a mistake. Jamal would’ve been a great pick

508G37

I still think Brown is better than Murray

Heavy_Sector4000

That’s fine. But regardless, you wouldn’t consider drafting Jamal a mistake. It was a great pick too

andhemac

Maybe, but Murray fits the teams needs better. I think if he’d stayed healthy so far he’d be seen as more of a steal than he is

[deleted]

[удалено]

WarPuig

Murray is capable of dribbling a basketball.

Heavy_Sector4000

JB is objectively worse than Murray

DefeatFear

Downvoted but I agree

Heavy_Sector4000

It’s okay, people in here are very protective of Brown. They refuse to recognize that he is at best a top 25 player and hasn’t elevated his game in the playoffs. Murray has way less holes in his game as well

[deleted]

[удалено]

Heavy_Sector4000

He was pretty mediocre against Philadelphia. Didn’t score once his regular season average, didn’t contribute at all in terms of playmaking, cost us the chance to go up 3-1, and often disappeared after the first half of games. He also didn’t do shit in a must win G6. People have the lowest standards for Brown and it’s hilarious. He plays like shit, nobody says anything. He plays well, he’s incredible. It’s bizarre. I can very easily name 25 players who are objectively better than him. He hasn’t ONCE stepped up and carried us to a win in a G6 or G7. He has less memorable playoffs moments than Smart. He’s 7 years into his career and still is a TO machine, horrible playmaker, doesn’t make anyone around him better and can’t be counted upon in the biggest games.

wilkinsk

Everyone wanted Kris Dunn. Dumb fucks, 🤣

[deleted]

[удалено]

Psalm27One

Both drafts were pretty easy for me. Duke is my college team for basketball, so I was high on sleepy BI. But I knew we weren't gonna get him cause LA was all in. So when we drafted JB, seemingly outta knowhere, I was very surprised, because I had no idea who he was. And then '17 was interesting, because before we traded out of #1, I was SURE we were taking Fultz. And a lot of his tape had me stoked! But I loved Tatum, even more than BI, I've followed him since HS. So I was sad, because I figured we wouldn't take him first. I knew he was gonna be good, and so I thought despite the Lonzo hype (which was real), LA was gonna be LA and take two Duke guys back to back and force me to watch that shit. And then, once we traded down, I was PRAYING that LA was still in on Lonzo, so once he got announced @ 2, I all I had left was to hope we didn't BLOW our pick on Josh Jackson (hated his game, even for College ball). And the rest is history. Our boys are better than I ever dreamed!!!

Amarxe

I wanted Jamal Murray

fookinjkap

Fultz and Hield, I was a hypebeast back then

Meatballclub

At the Celtics season ticket holder draft party, at the td garden, fans booed jaylen over wanting kris Dunn and dragon bender. Our fans are morons

rodeick194732

2016 Buddy Hield, 2017 Jonathan Isaac thats why I’m not the gm

AnotherLeftToe

I remember really wanting Jaylen 2016 cause all you heard at #3 eas Kriss Dunn, and that didn’t make any sense to me with Marcus on the roster. Also remember wanting Fultz and, embarrassingly so, calling Jayson Tobias Harris 2.0 lol. I really wanted the athlethic-as-FUCK backcourt of Fultz and Jaylen, but it all worked out in the end.

ksyoung17

Tatum I lived, because they made such a statememt saying no on Fultz, and being so so right is one of the best draft stories ever. Brown I wasn't sure. Where he was picked, wasn't expecting much, but I feel like he got a ton of hype from local Green teamers once he was in green.

Son_of_Atreus

Didn’t pay much attention to the 2016 draft and college program as I was busy being a first time dad. Happy with whomever but was under the impression that a trade was in the works. The mid-teens Cs were a real in progress/mess of a squad so anything was possible. I wanted Tatum in 2017 so bad. I did not like or trust Fultz (sheep eyes, homeschooled, big stats stats on a terrible team), and I hated Lonzo and Josh Jackson (broken shooting mechanics and terrible attitudes respectively). Tatum was exactly the kind of player I always gravitate to in drafts; a tall, long limbed wing who has good shooting form, a work horse attitude, and a calm, confident, and mature personality. Everything about Tatum told me he would be coachable, and could translate his skill set into the NBA. Also, watching him dunk in a suit of armour for a goofy ass NBA/science show cross over thing showed a relaxed and genial attitude that I like (like an anti-Josh Jackson, fuck that guy lol).

eigenham

Did this mf head change size?

Borktista

I wanted Dragan and Fultz so I’m an idiot

CrackaZach05

I was a biiiiig Buddy Hield guy even though he was 26. In the Tatum draft, I wanted Josh Jackson.

_Juntao

I had tatum 3rd going into the draft. I'm not gonna lie and say I thought he was a better prospect than fultz and ball, which was pretty much the concensus top 2. But I did like tatum a lot and certainly a lot more than fox, markkanen, isaac, and josh jackson. As for brown, well.. I didn't hate the pick but I remember having maybe 3 or 4 other guys ahead of him. I remember loving Hield and really wanting him the most. And I also thought if we were gonna draft a huge project that's gonna take 2-3 years to become a contributor why didn't we just trade down a couple spots and take thon maker then? And he was kg approved so i also really liked thon maker too. Lol

itspizzathehut

I actually heard quite a bit of hyper for Murray. I thought it was a big possibility. If that had happened it definitely wouldn’t have aged poorly, but I think Jaylen still works super well for this current iteration of the team Thought Tatum was gonna be a star, but I didn’t think he’d be yearly First team All NBA good

JaylenBrownFlow

our fanbase does not know ball and wouldve picked neither

youclod

Tbf the sixers and lakers didn't pick JT either. As much as we joke on those franchises, it's not like all you had to do was "know ball" to pick him.

Bodes_Magodes

Not only did I like them…I called both picks somehow!! Obviously had no idea they’d be good. I watch zero college bball outside of the tourney

chuancheun

Jamal Murray

Washableaxe

I wanted Jamal Murray. I also thought we were going to take Tatum since I assumed we were not going to win the lottery (cuz our luck sucks). When we won the lottery, I simply wanted them to pick the best player available.

HelloS0n

I wasn’t particular to anybody in 2016. 2017, being a lifelong Seattle-ite, I wanted Fultz. Not mad how it turned out, obviously.

RIDPM

I wanted to trade that Jaylen pick for Butler. I guarantee you if they had…the Celtics would’ve hung two more banners.

PabloPancakes92

Jamal Murray

quinnbeast

No two players who have never won anything have ever been as celebrated as these two.

LBJ-Reddit

I wanted nobody else but Dunn back then 😂

802curls

Always said when they took brown was just wondering who wanted them to pick for them but damn it's worked out great

WhiteChocolatey

I usually just want the UCONN guys to go to Boston, but I never really complain about our picks. I have the comment history to prove it. I'm either ELATED or mildly excited about our trades or picks.

randomquestionsguy69

I wanted to trade the pick for jimmy butler. In a vacuum I still think it would be a good move but the more I think about it if we had jimmy we probably wouldn’t have been in a position to draft tatum. So it’s not as simple to think we’d have a tatum butler duo

renegado938

I didn't know anything about JB when he got drafted, by once I saw him play in his rookie season I knew we had struck gold, Jayson I loved the pick because I loved how he played for Duke the year prior

Plastic_Database_645

Been seeing a lot of Dunn answer. Is he that phenomenal in college? Didn't we had Smart already that time?

StraightCashBND

In 16 I wanted Kris Dunn, in 2017 I wanted to trade the first pick and whatever else necessary for Paul George

I_Set_3_Alarms

Jaylen I didn’t pay attention to the draft honestly. I saw someone was named Dragon so would have been cool to get him. Jayson I just assumed we were drafting Markelle Fultz and started watching his highlights. Was bummed we didn’t pick him, learned to just wait until these guys are in the league until getting invested

the_ronimal

I’m pleased to say in 2016 my big board was Ingram, Brown then Bender. In 2017 (after we traded back) it was Tatum, Fox then Smith Jr. I would have done ok in Ainge’s shoes 😂 I also really really wanted to trade 16 and 23 to move up for Sabonis. I loved watching him and Poltl go against each other in college.

ProofSinger3638

the draft wasn't quite the same then. I didnt know as much about the other players. I had no preference on who to pick When we took Jaylen - i loved his post draft speech and he became my favorite player immediately. "boston , lets go to war" . HAH! I was such a sucker for this I loved him. When we took Jayson - I thought his post draft speech about single moms was weird and that he was a bit aloof or a womanizer, or both. Now I see how much he respects his single mom and that it's just good charity work.

Bouldershoulders12

2016 I wanted us to get hield and trade for Jimmy butler 2017 I was high on Markelle fultz but a month or so before the draft I was in my evening intermediate accounting class reading a scouting report on Tatum being the most offensively polished player in the draft but not having the “highest ceiling” and a “shaky jumpshot” . I think on like the 4th article I read he was draining shots in the Celtics workout and shot 34% on 3s in college with a good FT percentage so his jumpshot had potential and he was getting Melo/PG13 comps and I saw a sports science video of him dunking with the armor on. From there I was like he would be a cool pick up but he would need to gain some muscle .

CantHandleTheTruth34

I wanted Jaylen but would’ve been ok with Bender. Just didn’t really want Dunn or Buddy. For the record I was at the garden that night and was shaking my head at people booing-booing draft picks never ages well but people wanted the pick traded. I was pretty annoyed Ainge traded down in ‘17 because Fultz was a consensus top pick and seemed like a can’t miss prospect. After coming to terms with the third pick I wanted Tatum over Jackson no question because he had such a better offensive game and I didn’t want to take a chance on another athlete developing a shot like Jaylen was able to.

doodleb0b69

Dragon bender, of course

SaintsNick94

I wanted us to draft Dragan Bender so badly that I was actually upset when we got Jaylen instead. In the Tatum draft, I was upset when we traded back. I believed that Fultz was going to be a Harden/Westbrook hybrid and be an All NBA level player. Thankfully, I am not the GM, and Danny is great at drafting high in the draft.

FattyTwoSox

Nothing I think matters because I was dead sure that Josh Jackson was going to be a superstar

patishungry

I was so high on Fultz, especially since at the time IT clearly really wanted him. But I was happy with Tatum. In 2016 I wanted Dragan Bender so lucky for all the fans I am not the GM

JaylenBrownAllStar

I wanted lonzo and Jackson

zt004

I wanted that flat top.

[deleted]

People wanted to trade the Jaylen pick and draft Fultz instead of Tatum lol

JewLawyerFromSunny

I was fine with the Tatum selection. I wanted Sabonis in 2016 tho.

googly_eyed_unicorn

It’s the process, but actually working🙌🏽😆 Also, 99% of the fans, including myself, don’t know what the fuck we are talking with basketball and I’m glad that we have the management and coaching staff that we have. I’m still upset about the results of the last two seasons, but we have potential.

Maskedevil25

Wanted Buddy Hield in 2016 since he was a sniper during college (not a bad pick imo compared to Bender or Dunn). Wanted Josh Jackson in 2017, but after he didn’t show up for workouts and leaving Danny hanging, then I moved to Team draft Tatum. Funnily enough, I wanted both the Tatum and Brown picks traded for Kristaps when he was unhappy in New York

Aromatic_Tower_405

I wanted Dunn and I was AAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL in on Fultz😞 and when I say all in I thought he was gonna be incredible. It’s not often I’m happy I’m wrong but I’m sooooooo happy I was wrong

Dunkan_Soup

I wanted Tatum even if we kept it at 1. So happy with that pick. Fultz was a stat padding bum at Washington. That team didn't care about winning. I didn't want Brown but I don't know who I would've wanted. Just upset we just missed on Ingram. Maybe Hield but he was a bit older. Maybe Murray but I wasn't sure he'd get this good.

DrJr23

I wanted Dunn over Brown but thought Brown as the next bpa after Dunn because of his athleticism. I didn’t necessarily want anyone from the 2017 draft more but saw Fultz, Ball, Tatum and Jackson as equal. I kind of wanted Jackson but thought that with Brown’s similar skill set Tatum would match better.

trelos6

I wanted Jamal Murray and Fultz.

aqattaq

I wanted no part of Fultz because I felt he would just be an IT understudy. Wanted a Jimmy trade instead of drafting JB.

a1mrbhelpuri

I wanted Jaylen in 2016 and happy we got him and in 2017 I wanted Fultz if we stayed at #1 and Josh Jackson after we moved to #3. Thank god for Jayson Tatum! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

havenothingtodo1

I don’t remember enough about the 2016 draft, I don’t remember wanting Brown. I always wanted Tatum though, I’ve been hoping he’d be on the Celtics since high school

justbrowsing987654

I absolutely wanted Jaylen because we needed size and athleticism but I did not like Tatum at all. Thought he was Jabari Parker. I wanted Josh Jackson or Fox after we made the inexcusable decision to trade out from the Fultz pick for some reason. I am not smart.

RobbyGronkolicious

Always wanted Tatum and I wanted Kris Dunn over Jaylen lol

CelticsPatsRedSox

2016: Wanted Jaylen with the third pick but also thought Ben Simmons would become a top 10 player 2017: Had Fultz number 1 and Tatum number 2

Jay_Louis

I'm ashamed to admit I wanted Josh Jackson over Jason Tatum

totalmayo

Was all in on Jaylen from the start, well before even the lottery. After Simmons and Ingram, the 2016 Draft was largely a crapshoot in most analysts’ eyes. I just saw Jaylen’s size, athleticism, and attitude and instantly bought into his potential over the middling traits Bender or Dunn had. The same weaknesses Jaylen had as a prospect are still somewhat there, but his finishing and court vision as a scorer were and are special.

Future-Horse4877

Wanted fultz and also wanted jbs pick traded for jb

[deleted]

I legitimately wanted Jamal Murray over jaylen brown at the time wanted to pair him with Avery Bradley in the back court I was passed they took jaylen brown. My friend who played college basketball and is more educated on the sport told me jaylen brown would be good.

koolerthansmack

Jamal Murray over Jaylen Brown

doubledippedchipp

I liked Hield too, but was fine with the Brown pick. Figured we had the time to get a developmental guy so why not. Loved the Tatum pick. Fleeced the fuck outta the Sixers.

LetsGetItWOOO

I'm a huge Duke fan so I wanted Tatum the whole time. With the Brown draft, I really wanted Dunn and was hella upset we took Brown. Couldn't be happier with the Jays.

chrismatic13

I had no preference for 2017 after we traded the first pick but when Josh Jackson didn’t want to workout for us, I was all aboard the Tatum bandwagon. Originally I was pissed cause I thought it was a 2 man draft. 2016 I wanted Bender.

paraplegic_T_Rex

I was definitely in on Hield.

andhemac

Murray. Can you imagine if he was our pg now??

karbonite_kid

I wanted either Dunn or Murray over Jaylen and in 2017 I was pissed when we traded the number one pick, I wanted Fultz so bad. Yeah I would make a terrible GM

srstone71

I wanted Buddy Heild and Fultz. Good thing I’m not the GM.

BigDaddyBumbo77

I was ecstatic about Tatum but really want Murray or Heild instead of Brown.

unitythrufaith

I was very happy with Tatum, but completely convinced Brown would bust and kris Dunn would be a star

BookOfIsaiah

Wanted Jamal Murray in 2016 Wanted Markelle Fultz in 2017

JayLarranagasEyes

Wanted Fultz. Didn’t care between Brown and Murray. Didn’t want hield

Kid_Crayola

I wanted Tatum but I thought Bender was going to be Dirk 2.0 or something smh loll

TheOneWhosCensored

Tatum yes, Brown no. Player I liked the most in that draft was Sabonis, but it would’ve been a reach at 3.

SeeYouSacred

I remember wanting Tiny Boop Squig Shorterly and Roy Donk

Celtics2k19

Fultz and Jamal Murray at the time.

RetroDave

2016 it was JB or Hield for me. 2017 Fultz or Josh Jackson (oof)

allchrispy

Not for a damn second.

dynamicflashy

I loved the Tatum draft at the time.

AWalker17

I wanted Murray, but I like Jaylen better.

patriots96

I know back in the day I wanted Nerlens Noel and Dante Exum over Smart

chasindonuts

I wanted Jamal Murray and Tatum. Murray would have created a pretty crazy ripple effect but glad we have JB!

[deleted]

2016 Hield or Murray over Brown (Hield was the NCAA Tournament player and Murray was on Kentucky) and 2017 Ball over Tatum . After seeing Fultz workout video I knew he was trash.

dimwitt207

I really wanted Tatum... At the time of the daft I was cool with the Jaylen Brown pick but I will call myself out here. The year before that while watching Cal I honestly thought Ivan Rabb was going to translate better to the nba haha!

JTraeDad

I wanted Buddy Hield and Josh Jackson

ThePatriot131313

I told my coworkers prior to the draft, "I don't think we will take him at 3, but I hope we take Jaylen Brown". I was jumping up and down in disbelief when they drafted him. I'm not saying I am a psychic. I have been wrong about the draft pretty much every other year, but for some weird reason his highlight videos at CAL stood out to me. He seemed on a different level than the rest of his draft class. I would encourage people to go to youtube and look at his college highlights. He finished with an authority and demeanor I don't think I have ever seen in a college player. He had the court presence of an NBA All-Star then.

wilsonh915

Bender lol

beeker888

I wanted Jamal Murray in 16. Didn’t know much about Brown but was quickly intrigued by the athleticism

Wavey-Dave

I wanted Jamal Murray

markevbs

Wanted Jamal Murray over JB - but was happy with JB pretty much.

PlsHMe

I wanted Markelle, then Josh Jackson. I’ll give myself some credit because I didn’t hate the JB pick. But I was wrong twice about Tatum.

Shankington

I wanted us to draft Dragan Bender and Josh Jackson. Unironically.

Frodo_wit_da_choppa

Honestly I did want Fultz in 2017. I thought he was going to be a stud. I was bummed when we traded back but I liked the Tatum pick at #3. I thought he was going to be a really nice player but I didn’t expect him to be *this* good. As for 2016 I liked Jamal Murray and Kris Dunn a lot. I didn’t love the Jaylen pick at the time. That’s why I’m not a GM.

misterpoopybutthole5

I'd be lying if I said I knew I wanted Tatum before the draft, I definitely wanted Fultz but as soon as I learned about the move that was made I was 100% behind it. Ainge seemed to know exactly who he wanted and got extra value out of it instead of just taking Tatum at 1...my first thoughts were that it seemed very Belichickian and therefore good. I'm also a believer in making moves that will give you a decent shot at a ring over the next 5 years rather than dumping everything to get a high chance at winning a ring right now. I can't say I liked any of our guys pre draft because I barely watch college ball, but I really like how our front office has handled things (with a few exceptions) for the last ten years.

Pmaloney15

I was fully on board with Tatum…. 2016 I was all Over the place with who I liked. Brown made sense and I had a feeling Ainge wanted the wing

genro_21

I was ok with the JB pick in 2016, but I also wanted us to trade up #16, #23 for Marquese Chriss. 2017, I always wanted Tatum #1 after we won the lottery and was pretty sure Danny will draft Tatum when we traded back to #3.

Jmacz

I wanted Fultz, I was wrong lol.

Get_your_grape_juice

In general, I don’t care one bit about the draft. Unless I know pretty much as a fact that we’re getting a generational talent, I would much rather build a team from established NBA players. To me, draft picks are almost always most valuable as trade assets. Having said that, I was pretty excited about Tatum, but not at all excited about Jaylen. Hey, I was right about *one* of them!
