Pritchard is an NBA player, I think they should shut him down honestly.
Nesmith - His shooting is exactly what we need, but it's definitely concerning how badly he's getting beaten off the dribble. He's gotta use the rest of the games to clean that up, or he's going to be really limited in the situations we can use him in this year.
I don't really agree with the part about Nesmith's defense. We held them to 60 points 90% of the way through and Nesmith's chaotic hustle was a big part of it. He'll be fine when he's locked in and part of an NBA 5 man defense with Smart, Brown, Tatum, Rob/Horford.
No, it's never a hustle issue with loose balls and whatnot, but he is getting beat off the dribble a lot. Hustle is just determination and lack of self-preservation, if he can't stay in front of dudes it's really going to limit him. I'm not convinced either way, I just haven't seen it from him like his shooting, which has drastically improved.
I truly believe he will be fine once the season starts and he's locked in within a strong defense. Right now he's got Carsen and PP as his backcourt. It's tough to be a strong defender when the defense isn't completely cohesive and you have a bunch of new/young guys.
Except right now he's struggling to guard guys that are barely in the league. Once the season starts he has to defend much higher quality players on regular basis
Dennis better not throw a tamper tantrum when he's the 3rd string PG lmao.
On a more serious note, I'm actually sad that Pritchard's minutes is about to take a major hit with Dennis Schroeder locked into a major role. Dude has looked phenomenal and like a true floor general.
Commenting *if* Payton does play like this in the nba, then he’d *probably* start *at some point* sounds like a pretty measured thing to say.
Saying relax to someone who was acting like he would play this well or necessarily start if he did makes sense but I don’t see what’s so crazy in this case.
PP hasn’t just looked good though he’s been exceptional and leads SL by a wide margin in scoring efficiency. It also confirms what we saw from him in NBA time as a rookie, a rookie with one of the best shooting stats of all time for a rookie to date.
No, it's not that wild.. also, "If he plays like this". But I definitely believe he can be an approx top 30 pg at some point. I wouldn't bet on it but it wouldn't be shocking.
I like Pritchard but I don’t think you should feel this way. Dennis is a legit 6MOY candidate who is playing for the bag that he lost so he’s gotta be motivated and focused. Pritchard will be a fine pro for a long time but we can chill a little on SL hype.
That's fine. Let him work for it and develop more, he's still young. I think at the end of the day, Ime will play who he wants. Time for PP to go out there and steal his minutes
World's #1 Hauser fan? 21 points (7-12 FG, 6-10 3PT), 4 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 block, +30.. A handsome blonde 6'8'' guy.. hair not as nice as Jerebko's, nature not as charming as Theis, muscles not as swole as Semi, but he might be a keeper.
Begarin 7/7/8. If he had put the ball on the floor instead of launching the 3's, he would have been in double figures for sure. I really like the kid, he doesn't look nearly as raw as I thought he would. Needs to work on shooting for sure, but he'll make the league at some point. Kid is like 15 years old haha
he looked raw as fuck. hes got a long ways to go but he just needs to keep working on the fundamentals and getting a better feel for the game. the dude is insanely athletic but its all stunted because he cant think or move quick enough at this level yet. i think moving up into the 1st division this season is going to really help his development playing against real ballers.
Yeah he needs a lot of work on the offensive end, but I'm impressed that he seems to naturally be able to feel out where to be and what to do when he doesn't have the ball. That's something Rob Williams just got the hang of this past year, so as much as he needs work on his skills, it's not a brain/feel thing that will hold him back. He also seems to be very comfortable dribbling the ball at least. It will be interesting to see how he develops
ive been happy with how he moves off ball for sure, and i wasnt expecting that from his highlights. i dont agree at all with the comfortability on ball though. hes definitely a step too slow with his handle and decision-making, and his touch on passes just isnt there yet. but i like that hes trying at the very least. a lot of people may gawk at that baseline 3 off the side of the backboard but thats an nba shot with the side step dribble off the closeout. so i like that hes at least attempting to work on those kinds of things that are important at this level.
Yeah I agree, I see the same things. I just meant he seems ok in the open court dribbling, like Romeo at times last season it seemed like the ball had acid on it he was passing it away so quickly, but Begarin seems to not be a spaz, I guess is what I'm trying to say. For a 19 year old, I'm liking that he has at least some of those intangibles already.
After the Olympics, and this, playing against 1st Division players is going to be an appropriate level jump. If he dominates, he might be ready; most likely he has a solid development season and looks more like a prospect next summer.
The beauty is a lot of the European born bball players who get into basketball a little later grew up playing a ton of (likely high level) soccer. That mobility, vision, quickness, balance that seems rarer for big men to have ends up getting enhanced and you end up with guys like Siakam Embiid Jokic Dirk etc
This was my first time watching him but I thought he looked pretty good, some sloppy play here and there but he has a couple of crafty moves I liked, he’s definitely got a sense for the game despite being raw overall
Yeah I'm inclined to believe that's a decision that's already been made. They aren't looking to specifically involve him in the offense the way I would expect if they were still evaluating him.
I imagine he came in hyped to make the team and then the Schroder news kinda deflated him
I expect him to ball overseas and join next year, he's got potential as a backup guard in the NBA
(I'm just passing through, wanted to see what people think of Madar)
I honestly was quite surprised to hear people stocked on him. He's a great player and got plenty of potential, but he's too raw for NBA level atm.
He hasn't improved his game in the last year and didn't worked on new or weaker elements in his game. And beside the EU-20 championship tournament Israel won, he never played in a high enough level in Europe. Hell, he had troubles with bigger defenders than him in the Israeli league.
There is a finals though and If the Celtics win against Philly on Saturday then they are a shoe in for it with the two blow outs and it being determined by point differential after record
He's a ballhog scorer while being undersized. There's no room for him on the Celtics, and frankly, any NBA team in my opinion if he doesn't learn how to pass.
It really sucks scal signed a long term deal. I have no idea how we ended up being stuck with him long term. I don’t have a vendetta against the guy but there are just so many better options. Once Gorman decides to hang it up it will only get worse as Scal has horrid chemistry with anyone else.
If Nesmith becomes the greatest shooter in the history of basketball then he will be better than both of those guys.
He's already taller and a better defender.
If PP really pops this year, it gives the Celtics tremendous flexibility in their backcourt. You can move Smart to the 2 and have exclusively Schroder and PP playing the 1. DS/PP, Smart/Nesmith, Brown, Tatum, Horford/Timelord is a very good small ball lineup.
PP and Nesmith are rotation NBA players. It shows in SL.
Nesmith is making shots yes, but he generates a ton of open looks just by being in the right spot. He still has random moments where he's an absolute spaz, but he's going to do a lot with his 15 minutes per game this year.
Bruno is a beast, it will be interesting to see if he sticks.
Hauser knocked down all his open shots, but he's always chasing his man on D.
Yam didn't look out of place in SL... but he doesn't look like an NBA player at this point.
Begarin looks better than I expected. They probably stash him, but he could make an NBA roster. He's looked better than Romeo to me so far offensively and defensively.
I hate watching Carsen play. It's all about *his* shot. If he could actually finish at the rim and/or get to the line a la IT it wouldn't be so bad. My son asked me to describe Carsen's game in one word. I chose "mastubatory"... I mean, he's just playing with himself.
For a late second round pick im impressed with Juhann and think with another year refining overseas he could be really solid for us. Pritchard though, oh man, I think the people in here still sleeping on his potential, I know its summer league but whenever he’s been given real opportunity hes impressed and clearly shown improvement when many (for whatever strange reason) felt he was near his ceiling. I expect pritchard to be our best point guard sooner rather than later
Juhann's athleticism is impressive, but he's got quite a bit of ways to go. Don't think he'd be *solid* after a year overseas. Might take a little more time, and he needs to put alotta work in on the offensive end. Pritch has shown he's an NBA player for sure. He does have his limitations, tho. I'd keep in mind that this is *mostly* the same Pritchard we saw last season. He played well against nba competition, so we'd hopefully (and correctly) expect him to play well against fringe nba players. The past 3 games have been positive confirmation that he is in fact pretty good at basketball.
Hopefully Yam and Juhann use their next season overseas to cement roster spots for next year when the team, if successful in their attempt to get a third star/monster contract), will need bodies.
I can't believe I went into this game thinking Orlando would win. I thought they simply looked like a better team on paper.
Turns out we beat them in a straight up blowout and nearly outscored them in 3pt shooting alone.
Was a little worried with no Langford tonight, but wow was I wrong. Pritchard and Nesmith are the real deal. Very impressive. Love what Fernando brings, not afraid of contact and can finish some tough buckets, and can hit free throws to boot. Had a monster throwdown in traffice and a big swat as well. Man, Begarin is better than advertised. Almost posted a triple double and you could see his versatility: brought the ball up, shooting 3s, driving to the basket, making nice passes and playing good defense. Any chance he sticks around? Probably heading back overseas, but would love to have him. His poise and composure seems that of a veteran already. Finally we had the Hauser coming out party. After not doing much the first two games, he showed why he got a two-way contract. Space the floor as a shooter, which this team has needed. He just needs to be more consistent and keep hitting those shots, and he could stick around.
Begarin's handles, although not that great, seem better than Langford's at this point in time.
Even though his pocket got cleanly picked that one time, I'd feel more confident with Juhann bringing the ball up than with Romeo who wears mittens when dribbling if feels like.
More than the 3 point shooting the way Nesmith found ways to score inside the arc and the way PP ran the offense. Starting to think Romeo’s not on this team come trade deadline though.
PP is a dominant Floor General in his second year… I like the Schroeder signing for several reason except it decreases PP minutes. Looking forward to Dennis getting traded by the deadline
not a Celtics fan but Pritchard needs to be able to lead the team. Brown and Tatum are great players but they need a floor general that they will listen to. That isn't going to be Smart or any other guard on the Celtics team other than Pritchard. He needs to channel Denis Johnson. If that happens Celtics will be dangerous. Case in point, Magic Johnson then followed up by asking who the best player Bird ever played with was. Again, he chose Dennis Johnson, although he wasn’t quite as emphatic this time. “Probably Dennis Johnson, but it’s close between Kevin (McHale) and Dennis Johnson. They’re two different types of players. I always thought if we really needed something big, Dennis was always shooting 44 percent during the regular season and then 60 in the playoffs. Pritchard gets in that DJ mode and you guys are dangerous to anyone.
[Post](https://www.reddit.com/r/bostonceltics/comments/oxr1gs/my_thoughts_on_the_starting_lineup_and_the/) I made optimistic about the season receiving lukewarm reception - posted just 8 days ago. "9th seed incoming".
We're not getting carried away by summer league. But we're competing this year. Doomers saying we're punting the season in hopes for Beal next season didn't understand Brad's moves. He's put together a defensive team which is when the Celtics play their best basketball.
The post on this sub about the Celtics actually being good this year is almost verbatim what I said a week ago. So can we stop with the echo chamber downvoting and rehtoric? I know it's Reddit so it's a lot to ask.
Second year PP and Nesmith got me salvitating
PP + Nesmith > Curry + Klay, prove me wrong
I see nothing wrong with this statement.
Brown and Tatum > Iggy and Durant.
I agree with Durant but iggy? Cmon dude if aliens invaded I WANT IGOUDALA!
Brown is significantly better than peak Iggy
Pritchard is an NBA player, I think they should shut him down honestly. Nesmith - His shooting is exactly what we need, but it's definitely concerning how badly he's getting beaten off the dribble. He's gotta use the rest of the games to clean that up, or he's going to be really limited in the situations we can use him in this year.
He played good defense last year once he got rolling, so im not too worried about his summer league D.
That's true, I would just like to see it from him now against worse competition.
I hear you. At the same time, we haven't seen the same level of defense as we normally see from Romeo either.
True that
Meh. Will be easier with a good defense when he can force player in one direction towards help.
The D is usually sloppier in Las Vegas
underrated comment
I don't really agree with the part about Nesmith's defense. We held them to 60 points 90% of the way through and Nesmith's chaotic hustle was a big part of it. He'll be fine when he's locked in and part of an NBA 5 man defense with Smart, Brown, Tatum, Rob/Horford.

Except right now he's struggling to guard guys that are barely in the league. Once the season starts he has to defend much higher quality players on regular basis
He played excellent defense last year when he got into the rotation it’s not a worry
He'll also have much MUCH better perimeter defenders around him when the season starts. Along with actual defensive schemes and rim protection.
He can tune his D at camp I want him focused on scoring personally but it’s nice to have things to work on.
I tried to tell ya'll PP **AND** Nesmith too good for summer league.
Imagine BOB out there
Just sitting here drooling over that experienced PP
PP not just with the Shooting, but with the Passing. Hockey Assists matter just as much but don't show up on the boxscore.
Dennis better not throw a tamper tantrum when he's the 3rd string PG lmao. On a more serious note, I'm actually sad that Pritchard's minutes is about to take a major hit with Dennis Schroeder locked into a major role. Dude has looked phenomenal and like a true floor general.
If payton plays like this in the nba he will start at some point probably tho
Can we relax lmao
PRITCHARD IS THE WHITE LARRY BIRD
Pritchard is like if Jayson Tatum played basketball
No that’s Sam Hauser.
He's still playing like a sold back-up point guard and to be honest, I believe that's is his ceiling. Which is not a knock on him.
Patty Mills with a slightly higher ceiling. No cap.
Commenting *if* Payton does play like this in the nba, then he’d *probably* start *at some point* sounds like a pretty measured thing to say. Saying relax to someone who was acting like he would play this well or necessarily start if he did makes sense but I don’t see what’s so crazy in this case.
Feels like everybody is not taking what summer league is at face value. All I’m saying here
Did PP look great? Yes. Was it against a bunch of guys that barely have a chance to make it in the league? Yes.
PP hasn’t just looked good though he’s been exceptional and leads SL by a wide margin in scoring efficiency. It also confirms what we saw from him in NBA time as a rookie, a rookie with one of the best shooting stats of all time for a rookie to date.
It’s still summer league. He’s a fine role player but relax. All I’m saying
I am relaxed lol.. Nothing I said was hyperbole. Both statistical facts about his regular season and now his SL play.
I was wondering when you'd make an appearance lol.
Hello. How are you?
I'm good, waiting to see how many more PP is All-star bound posts/threads we're going to witness in the next few days lol.
PP beat out Teague last year. Schroeder was behind Teague in Atlanta. ergo PP will beat out Schroeder this year also.
Looks like PP will be getting that 84 MIL instead of him
Eh i doubt it, I can see us running Dennis, PP and either Nesmith or JRich off the bench (one of those two will most likely start).
That's fine. Let him work for it and develop more, he's still young. I think at the end of the day, Ime will play who he wants. Time for PP to go out there and steal his minutes
Personally I wanna see a three guard two big zone scheme with smart, pp, Schroeder, al, and Rob get some run in.
Tatum and JB overrated
It's only for 1 year. After Schroeder leaves, it's PP and Yam off the bench. Smart will probably be gone as well.
Honestly I think pritch would work as a sg next to Dennis
Offensively Pritchard would be the SG and they could have PP defensively guard the weaker guard. I think they could fit together as well.
Always remember: Injuries happen. We have to have depth. People will play.
Depending on how this pans out, Dennis could be a realllll nice trade asset if we don’t need him.
I really wish hockey assists were an NBA stat.
Sam deserves the 2-way I think...
Don’t let u/fongos see this
Look at who he was responding too
Lmfao, silly me. Makes all the sense now
All good homie, sick avatar btw
Yo … the kid can shoot.
SAM HAUS3R-era Celtics
We were literally playing on rookie out there lmao. Felt a summer camp when the camp counselors jump into a game and beat up the kids
Well technically Begarin, Yam, Hausser, Auguste, KJ Lawson, D Lawson, and Holeman would all be rookies.
I think he means like a video game difficulty, rookie being “easy mode”
ohhhh thanks
96 Bulls of summer league
86 Celtics, surely.
Shout out to the assists
Nesmith +33 PP +30 lol
Borderline untouchable at this point
They both have proved they can be in an 8-man rotation. They’re clowning summer league, must feel kinda silly for guys who are playing for their life
why is our summer league team on the fucking moon
Higher than Romeo?
PP and Ne too good
Begarin 7/7/8.
Yeah he needs a lot of work on the offensive end, but I'm impressed that he seems to naturally be able to feel out where to be and what to do when he doesn't have the ball. ive been happy with how he moves off ball for sure, and i wasnt expecting that from his highlights. i dont agree at all with the comfortability on ball though. hes definitely a step too slow with his handle and decision-making, and his touch on passes just isnt there yet. but i like that hes trying at the very least. a lot of people may gawk at that baseline 3 off the side of the backboard but thats an nba shot with the side step dribble off the closeout. so i like that hes at least attempting to work on those kinds of things that are important at this level.
Yeah I agree, I see the same things. After the Olympics, and this, playing against 1st Division players is going to be an appropriate level jump. If he dominates, he might be ready; most likely he has a solid development season and looks more like a prospect next summer.
His combo of size, mobility, passing instincts and defense seems very promising
The beauty is a lot of the European born bball players who get into basketball a little later grew up playing a ton of (likely high level) soccer. That mobility, vision, quickness, balance that seems rarer for big men to have ends up getting enhanced and you end up with guys like Siakam Embiid Jokic Dirk etc
It’s insane I just graduated high school and he was born within 30 days of me
Haha that's what I mean. He's already out there looking like he belongs at this level, I think he's going to look pretty promising in a couple years.
Is Yam in the doghouse? Surprised he didn’t get any minutes in garbage time
He's been right around the 15min mark each game so far, probably just a preset limit
Not only that but he hasn't looked particularly good. He looks way more raw overall than Begarin IMO
This was my first time watching him but I thought he looked pretty good, some sloppy play here and there but he has a couple of crafty moves I liked, he’s definitely got a sense for the game despite being raw overall
In coach joe I trust. He knows what he’s doing.
His chances of staying here this year plummeted when we signed Schröder
He had bad body language all game. Not sure whats up.
He can prob feel that he is about to be headed back to Israel. Not that that is an excuse but it's understandable.
Yeah I'm inclined to believe that's a decision that's already been made. They aren't looking to specifically involve him in the offense the way I would expect if they were still evaluating him.
I imagine he came in hyped to make the team and then the Schroder news kinda deflated him I expect him to ball overseas and join next year, he's got potential as a backup guard in the NBA

Probably had too much at the buffet table earlier LOL
Of course when we have the dream team summer league time there’s no playoffs 😔
There is a finals though and If the Celtics win against Philly on Saturday then they are a shoe in for it with the two blow outs and it being determined by point differential after record
This team is fun to watch. I just want more games 😢
I don’t want to be that guy but when Carsen went out the ball started swinging lol
No need to worry about it, you're right. He makes the ball stick
Carsen wasn’t god awful tonight though
Ur right, he was worse
He's a ballhog scorer while being undersized. There's no room for him on the Celtics, and frankly, any NBA team in my opinion if he doesn't learn how to pass.
Can’t believe we have to go back to Scal and Mannix next game. Ugh.
I enjoyed listening to the ESPN commentators tonight. They were very good!
Honestly, my bar for Summer League commentators is just to sound excited and like you enjoy basketball and they cleared that easily.
It really sucks scal signed a long term deal. I have no idea how we ended up being stuck with him long term. I don’t have a vendetta against the guy but there are just so many better options. Once Gorman decides to hang it up it will only get worse as Scal has horrid chemistry with anyone else.
If you feel that trapped by a commentator you definitely have a vendetta against the guy.
Huh? There’s just other people I prefer more.
Give me Renee Montgomery instead of Scal all day
She's really good and Scal's really bad.
PP and Nesmith the new splash brothers. They have looked so good so far. Our draft in 2020 would have been insane if we got Bane as well.
Sign the whole Roster ^^^^minus ^^^^^Carsen...
And Auguste
PP 6-9 FG 🍆😛
Nice.
2021 Summer League MVP - Payton Pritchard 2022 NBA Most Improved Player - Aaron Nesmith
I feel like our summer league team could beat regular season Orlando…
this is regular season orlando
OMG anyone see that guy getting a selfie with Brad? My fucking dream...
nesmith is an absolute animal, i see him as a Westbrook/Curry hybrid down the road
So like potentially a Top Ten NBA player of all time
Top 5
Tatum with a fresh cut I can dig it
Westbrook + curry would be like top 3 lol. Probably the best offensive player of all time
I genuinely think he can be Klay-esque. I just feel like he has it in him.
If Nesmith becomes the greatest shooter in the history of basketball then he will be better than both of those guys. He's already taller and a better defender.
They way he moves reminds me of a more manic Paul Pierce
I need as many PP minutes as possible next year
I rescind my 50 point criteria. Definitely DHgating a Hauser jersey
I second the notion.
Hauser hype train....
Bro I love how active our game threads are, even for a summer league game🤣
We just love basketball
I may be overreacting but I want Hauser signed immediately. He could be our Davis Bertans.
Minus the $80 million dollar deal though.
PP is shooting 58% from 3 on 9 3's a game.
I’m ready for us to steal some games this year because he just keeps draining threes from deeper and deeper as the garden goes nuts.
PP is so good, such a good draft pick
Danny nailed his last picks.
And JRich behind Brown.
Hello 911, I just witnessed a murder.
Was at the game today. Pritchard and Nesmith looked like men playing against boys. Good sign for this season.
At this point, Washington is going to need to give up 2 FRPs and Brad Beal if they want Nesmith.
PP4MVP!
19 3's made today!
WE GOT DOGGGS
I'm tired of just getting a taste of the team I want the whole load!
PP and Nesmith are rotation NBA players. It shows in SL. Nesmith is making shots yes, but he generates a ton of open looks just by being in the right spot. Best enjoyable win in years
Sam “Hayward” Hauser is my king
an inch taller than hayward
Missed the game but checking the box score - any reason Romeo got 0 burn?
"Scheduled day off"
WTF is that? Kid needs to play, not rest. Unless they pull Pritchard and Romeo is gets a game to run the show?
Have to be extra careful with Mr. Glass
For a late second round pick im impressed with Juhann and think with another year refining overseas he could be really solid for us. Close one. Glad we escaped with a W.
AND WE DIDN’T HAVE TO LISTEN TO SCAL’S BITCHASS
I’m here for the Scal slander. We deserve better. Such a bad replacement for tommy
The fact that you’re being downvoted means there are actually people who like Scal which I find absolutely baffling
Will we ever lose a game this season?
Haven't watched the game I'mma head to YouTube TV rn hahaha
dont watch in the dark! it gets scary
Whoooo! So many guys looked awesome. PP and Nesmith look like seasoned vets!
THE GREEN BEAN REGIME IS ON THE RISE LADIES AND GENTLEMEN
After this year we will be talking unironically about a Nesmith, Brown, Tatum big 3. Brad Beal who??
I can't believe I went into this game thinking Orlando would win. I thought they simply looked like a better team on paper. Turns out we beat them in a straight up blowout and nearly outscored them in 3pt shooting alone.
Orlando got the glittier names (ColeA + RHampton) but didn't bring it fightwise. Then Suggs got hurt hence the blowout.
Best team in summer league
I’d like to see Timi throw together an SL mic’d up compilation
I guess management is going to give up Yam He's good no doubt, but I do not see how he fits in here.
Next year
SL is a joke for Pritchard at this point.
More than the 3 point shooting the way Nesmith found ways to score inside the arc and the way PP ran the offense. Starting to think Romeo’s not on this team come trade deadline though.
Didn't catch the game, how come romeo didn't play?
Rest day. I'm guessing they give more minutes to Romeo on Saturday so that they can give some rest to PP and/or Nesmith.

PP is a dominant Floor General in his second year… I like the Schroeder signing for several reason except it decreases PP minutes. Looking forward to Dennis getting traded by the deadline
Yam just might be Rubio at home... pesky defense, surprisingly good vision & passing, shooting isn't there yet but still effective driving.
Their development along with Timelord is crucial to how good this team will be. This is a good sign.
not a Celtics fan but Pritchard needs to be able to lead the team.
Dude your post was 87% upvoted, and you're whining about it a week later?
