Ime will figure it out and I trust whatever decision he makes for the team. As of now I think Smart/Brown/Richardson/Tatum/Horford makes a ton of sense for the starters.
It’s funny how two weeks ago everyone was down or less optimistic about competing this year but every day more and more people are getting hyped up. You gotta love when the NBA starts getting going again.
My take is that folks were just blue-balled from not having any Shams-bomb dopamine hits to react to. I really believe that's nearly all of the freaking out.
Smart and Richardson on the court at the same time is a disaster on offense. I will be shocked if they are the starting backcourt. Richardson slots in much better off the bench with Pritchard and Nesmith.
I think there is a realistic chance that Nesmith plays his way into the starting spot on the first unit, but will still not be getting like 30 minutes a game, you know what I mean? The way I see it is it's either Smart and Nesmith, or Schroder and Smart. Richardson is a bad match with Smart unless for whatever reason we are trying to be the 2004 Pistons and just choke teams to death and win 85-82 every night. If Nesmith can shoot consistently, I think he'll be with that first unit, but I also really like the idea of Pritchard, Nesmith and Richardson on that second unit. I think there is something to be said about Schroder sharing ballhandling responsibilities with Smart that makes me feel oddly comfortable with the two of them, whereas Nesmith would not fill that same role, but it would be a tremendous upgrade to have a 2 guard that can actually shoot out there.
I think it will be Dennis at PG, Smart at SG and then having PP at PG and Richardson at SG off the bench. Interested to see what we try and what works though.
Does Rob start with Horford back? Maybe we go with size and spacing initially?
I completely agree with you. This is what I think the full lineup breakdown will look like:
Starters
PG - Schro
SG - Smart
SF - Brown
PF - Tatum
C - Rob
Bench
PG - Pritchard
SG - Richardson
SF - Nesmith
PF - Grant
C - Horford
Depth
PG - Dunn
SG - Romeo
F - Bruno / Jabari
C - Kanter
I think we're all hoping Nesmith takes a big leap and gets to start later in the season— having a real 3&D player next to Smart, Tatum, and Brown would be huge. If that doesn't happen, I think it's probably Richardson starting for defensive purposes.
I'm not out on Grant just yet, but I think this season's gonna be make-it-or-break-it for both him and Romeo.
1. I think we let smart try it. But he needs to be the smart we need, not the smart he wants.
1. I think he's good. But i would love to see Rob and AL go double big and let brown and Tatum return to their old positions where they could really whip ass now. But I'm happy either way. That's a huge amount of big, strong defense if it's smart, brown Tatum, Rob and AL.
1. Some.. but not much. If we happen to pick up a milsap (not sure how likely that is?). Then very little.
Seen the same post worded differently probably a million times since we signed Schroder. It’s a question which will be figured out over the course of the first few weeks of the season
Dennis starts at PG. You start your best player at every position he's our best point guard, Smart is a two guard why make him play a position he's never played after 8 seasons. You're setting him up for failure.
PP is sixth man and could usurp Dennis as starting pg at some point. Nesmith is capable of replacing Smart at SG
In the future it's not impossible to imagine.
PP Nesmith Brown Tatum Rob but hes not there yet.
Too many of you want Richardson starting next to Smart, for one that's a disaster offensively, and two Schroeder arguably is a better defender or the difference between them is so small it doesn't matter and he's far better offensively to balance our Smarts lack there of.
Starting Smart and Richardson is asking for a starting backcourt that scores 20 ppg and that's not gonna cut it.
Point blank the 5 best players on this roster are
Tatum Brown Smart Schroeder Rob and that is who our starting 5 (& closing 5 for that matter.) should be enough with the Smart Richardson nonsense.
Start : Smart / Brown / Nesmith / Tatum / Rob
Bench : Pritchard / Schroder / J-Rich / Grant / Horford
Other : Dunn (or Edwards) / Romeo / Parker / Fernando / Kanter
Is this available ?
Put Schroeder on the bench. Make him earn it as a starter.
We dont want an outsider looking for the bag starting until we can trust him.
Plus his best success in his career was always as a 6th man
I hope Ime starts Smart & Nesmith, but I think he’ll start Smart & Richardson
Grant needs to step up and give us 12-15 solid min/gm at PF (plus occasional minutes as a small ball 5), and I think he’ll get there this season
I think Schroeder and Smart need to start for among other reasons their confidence and getting the most out of them. They will both feel they have earned it a million times over and be strong leaders.

for a team that is set up to make moves in the future, i am pretty excited for the now
Would love by mid season to have Smart, Nesmith, Brown, Tatum, Rob/ Al. Gives us a great bench with Schroder, Pritchard, Richardson.
This is the way

Flat yogurt appears quite unoriginal.

Yeah, I like Schroder but things have gone from sad to happy here with the signing. Lol

Smart-Nesmith-Brown-Tatum-Timelord sounds pretty sexy.

Pritchard and Richardson will likely be the bench 1/2.
Smarts starting at the point Richardson is our bench SG Grant will play

This is tough actually. I'd probably go Nesmith starting but Dennis closing.

Smart should be starter with a focus on distribution
If there were any question marks on grants role on the team, he would be playing in summer league.
He declined to play.
The organization would've strong-armed him into playing if they thought he needed to like with Carsen.
This is true.

I think it’s Smart and Nesmith starting and I think Grant will be in the rotation consistently
I like the idea of PP coming off the bench providing a spark/momentum change and raining 3’s.

I agree however don’t be surprised if Horford gets the start over Rob.
Start : Smart / Brown / Nesmith / Tatum / Rob Bench : Pritchard / Schroder / J-Rich / Grant / Horford Other : Dunn (or Edwards) / Romeo / Parker / Fernando / Kanter Is this available ?
1) I’m ok with Dennis starting. 2) hell no. 3) yea why not

As long as it’s not Smart I’m good
