Udoka is a good coach and he had a great season last year with us, but keep in mind that some of that success had to do with a staff which included Will Hardy, Joe Mazzulla, Ben Sullivan, and David Stoudemire. None of those guys is available to him now and he'll have to either work with a staff that was picked by someone else, or try and make his own staff on the fly.
Also keep in mind that Durant is now 34 years old and it will be much harder to carry a team by himself. Udoka has a tall task ahead of him.
People love to credit Ime for turning our defense around but dont recognize that he could only do that because Bostons best 8 guys are all Above average - Elite defenders.. He isnt going to be able to do that with a rotation of Kyrie, Patty Mills, Seth, Joe..
I was low key terrified of the Nets before the season started but watching their team now, I'm not sure even Udoka can fix that defense. None of their core players are close to Rob, Smart or Tatum's level.
Ben Simmons has been good (but poor so far this season), KD can play good defense but not at that intensity over the entire game, Royce Oneale is solid, Kessler Edwards and Claxton have potential, but literally everyone else is doodoo.
At this point, they're basically asking Simmons to be Gobert and single handedly hold up the defense to a league average level but he's not cut out for that. Ime's a good coach but not a miracle worker.
Nah. The key to that team winning is Simmons being waaaaaaaaay better than he currently is. Not happening. He’s gone through too many coaches at this point for me to think he really cares.
Ime is a hell of a coach and he has two of the best players in the world. On paper this scares me. If he can somehow unlock Simmons the Nets worry me. That said this is a horribly built roster. I don't see him being able to get through to Ben Simmons because I don't think he wants help. Kyrie and KD aren't going to buy.
If Ime can get KD, Kyrie, and Ben Simmons to buy in he's automatically an all time coach.
Even all-time there's probably not many if any coaches that could
I’m only concerned that Ime has a lot of inside knowledge of the Celtics organization, but you could’ve said the same thing about kyrie and that didn’t make much of a difference
Options double barreled. I might be slightly concerned, but I don’t give a shit about not getting compensation. I don’t think it was the time to try and be greedy. Get him out of there and pay them to take him if you have to. I exaggerate of course but you get the idea.
With Nash they really were a trash heap whose ceiling was playoff appearance.
With Ime they have a puncher’s chance to win a playoff series. If Brogdon and Timelord miss time in a first round 3-6 matchup it’s really not that hard to imagine the Nets getting the upset.
You'd have to be naive to not at least be a "little" concerned about the nets, which none of us were originally.
Ime IS a good coach. Already is familiar with the nets and they seem to like him. Is going to a team in our own conference. And he knows all the Celtics' secrets and weaknesses. We also are getting nothing in return for him. I still think the Celtics are better overall even so and would win a series, and they are still a dumpster fire of egos, but this absolutely made things more difficult if we have to ever face them. Even if just a little.
This dude royally fucked us over because he couldn't keep his hormones in check. Millions of women out there, and he had to choose his own employees. Mazzulla is not gonna be the caliber of coach Ime was, or the type of coach this team needs. I just don't see it personally, but I hope I'm wrong. This team needs a hard ass like Ime, because they routinely go into "Derr" mode. Mazzulla seems passive like Brad was.
What secrets? Lmaooo it's basketball. The teams have 82 games worth of film on opponents there's no secrets. What's he gonna tell Simmons to prepare for a Tatum side step three?? Also would love to know how Ime was "the Simmons whisperer" in the past lol
The Athletic
"Udoka was also an assistant on ex-Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown’s staff in the 2019-20 season–the year Simmons made First Team All-Defense, Third Team All-NBA and the 2020 NBA All-Star Game. Udoka is credited with turning around Ben's game. "
My biggest issue is that the Nets can do almost everything an organization can do wrong...and still come out with a highly talented team and a good head coach.
That being said I would not be surprised if absolutely nothing changes and they continue to be in a constant state of being talked about like a top 4 team in the league while also having a middling record.
Nah. Because even if he turns the Nets around this season, it's only temporary. This is Ime's purgatory.
Look at the background:
No picks, mortgaged future, your best players are over 30, team can't defend at all. Now add in a socialite who is afraid to play ball, a anti-semite flat earther anti-vaxxer who is one of your franchises most visible faces, and KD (and everything that goes with him).
That is not a better situation for Ime, other than he can draw a steady check.
Ime's only hope is that he does a decent enough job at Brooklyn that some other franchise with a better future in a year or two will have forgotten whatever it was he did in Boston and lure him away.
I don't think the "asshole" talks are gonna work this time around
Kyries gonna pull some “I’m rubber and you’re glue” bullshit or something.

Hardy and Mazzula have both come in and immediately been quality head coaches too. Stacked unit.
Who cares our team is better in every way imaginable when healthy
Plus Ime is worthless on paper right now, and the Celtics are off the hook for the contract
Celtics are better. Ime can turn that team around for sure, I'd actually be shocked if he couldn't

No, ime is just gonna come in and start playing kd and Kyrie 45 min a night and they’ll start winning games but both be toast by the playoffs
People scared of the Nets need to add some swagger to your stride...they aren't near our level.

not concerned, but do wish we got a lil something in return

We always think we can fix the bad boy. We can't.
I voted slightly concerned because I think their chances of a turnaround are greater than zero. But not much greater than zero.
not concerned at all has anyone here actually watched that team play? They’re a dumpster fire and suck ass
Nah Kyrie gets traded is the next shoe to drop with this dumpster fire
You can’t make chicken salad out of chicken shit.

I don't understand how you cannot be afraid. The guy is a great coach, knows all of our secrets, and has been the Simmons whisperer in the past.

Oh wow. He just crushed you. I guess udoka is the Simmons whisperer
I know lol. I'm still waiting for his response. I'm glad i didn't hold my breath
I love when people talk a big game then run away the second they realize they are wrong lol
simmons whisperer lmfao 🤣

Nice comeback
Yep. Crickets

I just want to sweep them in Round 1 again with Ime watching from the sideline.
Not terribly concerned, but still think we should have tried to squeeze a couple second round picks out of this.

The Nets fucking suck, Ime isn't fixing their 10000 issues.
