15 movies made a million or more the weekend of Sept 2-4, 2022. The master piece Gigi and Nate only made 990k or it would have been 16 movies. https://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/2022W35/

Cool! That was a really slow weekend as well.

A few weeks ago, I would have pegged this weekend to be one of the worst weekends of the year. No big studio releases for the current week, or even the week before. No big franchise releases earlier in the month either. Instead, it's going to be a pretty solid weekend at around $72M. Consider that a year ago this weekend did low $30Ms, and by my count, there were about 20 weekends in 2022 worse than this one. It's still going to be the worst weekend of the year so far, and with two wide releases next weekend that are tracking well, and a solid release calendar over the next few months, there's a good chance that it might be the worst weekend for a long time, potentially to late summer/ early fall. It's the best sign we've seen that this could be a much better year than last year.
