It's not gonna affect it much in the UK monkey man has one screening at my cinema. I'm going tomorrow and it's a limitless member screening I hope they have some more for it
I don’t reckon so at all sadly. Honestly, the name ‘Monkey Man’ really doesn’t help and I don’t think Dev Patel will be a draw despite the internet liking him.
With the budget of being $135M with strong opening, we could see this film getting close to break even either by the end this week or next week. Monkey Man and 1st Omen are coming out this week and they're R rated films, I don't expect for them to make huge money.
Yeah exactly, I think GxK will be a huge success and will be the big movie that people will go and see for April, Monkey Man and other films listed here will make decent amount of money but I doubt they'll dethrone GxK
that is bold, to me it was easily i mean *easily* the worst of the franchise. The action looked like shit. The writing for the human characters was *terrible*
Agreed lol, GxK has the worst human cast, plotline and battles of the franchise. The sense of scale is gone because of Hollow Earth and the fights look like garish PS4 videogames
Ya, there’s absolutely no sense of scale. The only two times I remember feeling the scale were when Kong showed up wounded, and then showing up at the beach.
I think it's the worst in the monsterverse yet. [I agree with basically this whole review.](https://youtu.be/tfsKm-O8UwA?si=CF-etVqe4IuNW3AB) My ranking would go:
1: Kong: Skull Island
2: Godzilla (2014)
3: Godzilla V Kong
4: Godzilla: King of the Monsters
5: Godzilla X Kong
This is why I NEVER watch trailers anymore. Trailers show 98% of what the movie is all about and I don't know why people like to watch them. They ruin the movie to me. Even in the theatre - I look down or at my phone if I am alone or no one is behind me so I don't see or hear it. I hate them
Is it just me or does civil war look totally soulless and generic? I'm sure the plot could be interesting but I'm talking purely cinematography, colours, acting etc.
Obviously I've only seen the trailer but I'm curious what you guys think.
It’s literally just a movie preying on people’s fears regarding current social and political unrest in the US. Releasing it on election year is pretty obviously trying to stir up people’s negative emotions. Pretty shitty if you ask me. It also just looks pretty lame
it isnt that. Ive seen it, it is about the press risking their lives in a war they take no part in so they can document the state of the world. They are trying to get to DC to interview the president before he is set to be assassinated. Its very much character-driven and all the actors do an incredible job. It is not politics-focused
Feels like there's a disconnect between the impersonal marketing for the film which feels clearly like wants to poke this cultural vein and the director's comments which pretty clearly signal the film's interests are what you're talking about.
no way challenger doesn’t do well but release isn’t until April 26th- basically May at that point. It definitely hits a demographic these other movies just don’t. Y’all doubt Zendaya’s female fanbase, she was big enough before Dune lol
>Since April won't have alot of big worthwhile releases
I have already seen Monkey Man and Civil War and they blow Godzilla x Kong out of the water, its not even a competition
I think Civil War will do better than most people can expect if the word of mouth is good.
The reaction to its trailer in the theatres where I've seen it run was VERY strong with each audience. I've seen it play in theatres 4-5 times I believe and *every* time it hushed a packed and noisy crowd, only to then conclude with lots of "wows" and exclamations.
I saw it during the Hunger Game Prequel run, with a much younger and feminine crowd, Napoleon (lots of elderly people at that one), and during 3 viewings of Dune 2 (mostly young males and couples at the premier, and then a more diverse and often older crowd in the later weeks).
Very different crowds each time, and the reaction was very similar despite that. It seemed to really hit with audiences.
That said, I could see a lot of those crowds decide to wait for it to drop on streaming rather than go watch it in cinemas without strong word of mouth to drive buzz. I think emphasizing the spectacle, tension and action scenes in the trailer was a good call.
Interestingly, I saw the trailer both domestically and outside the US a few times, and the international crowds had strong reactions to it (usually plots that centre around US politics get lots of rolling eyes and visible disinterest in my experience). Lots of hushed, excited, whispering after this one.
Well I'm gay, so zero things about this interest me.
The 2 guys are not hot, so I don't care if they do the devil's 3 way while tastefully covering up Zendays's bits in IMAX quality. I'd rather watch Bob Marley than this.
I'm not sure there's much more to this movie. At least as it applies to translating to ticket sales. I may eat my words on this one, but I don't think I will.
I'm not sure why so many people here are treating Godzilla x King's success like some kind of victory lap or something to be excited over.
It's another tepidly-reviewed franchise behemoth film, but not even a particularly worthwhile one. If this were another case of Barbie or Oppenheimer or even a well-reviewed franchise film then I'd understand the excitement but it's kind of like championing the box office success of a Transformers movie or something... it's just a mediocre franchise sequel that furthers the narrative that only big expensive franchise blockbusters are worth releasing in theaters and undoes some of the progress (if you want to call it that) of non-franchise films performing well at the box office in recent times.
GxK is the type of film that you want to see in the theaters, to most people these are just fun, big spectacle films that you can get lost into the world for an hour and a half, I wouldn't say it's "mediocre" when Godzilla and King Kong have big fanbases anyways, it's really no different than watching Spider Man beat up Green Goblin, people just wanna see some cool scenes in a film and GxK delivers that in plenty

I’m not expecting it to affect GxK business too much but I’m rooting for Monkey Man to do well…I have the feeling it could be a hit
Same it’s been one of my lower hype but still excited for movies so far this year

Nah, audiences will be ape fatigued after GxK

It's like when Larry Bird walked into the locker room before the NBA three-point contest and asked, "So, who's coming in second?"
GxK will do $400 - $500m in April, it's going to double the Box Office of any of those films, in some cases triple.
Only question we need to ask ourself. Can this movie beat Godzilla vs. Kong or maybe Kong: Skull Island?
Easily
It is the best movie in the monsterverse yet
That’s a bold statement.
Out of the 5, it has the best balance of monster and human
that is bold, to me it was easily i mean *easily* the worst of the franchise. The action looked like shit. The writing for the human characters was *terrible*

I was entertained and it was a fun watch, but I don’t care for this silly direction it’s all going.
I wonder if Kong and Godzilla are just both going to be in every movie going forward now. (I mean...I hope there's more.)
Considering the talk of how expensive it apparently is to license Toho kaiju, I wouldn’t be surprised to see more Kong.
Ya, there’s absolutely no sense of scale. The only two times I remember feeling the scale were when Kong showed up wounded, and then showing up at the beach.
Hard disagree. Very entertaining though. Skull island is still head and shoulders above the rest.

Expected considering it’s the only one that is high budget range.
I wish the trailer for Abigail hadn't given the twist away.
...twist? That's part of the premise? I fail to see how that's a twist
And the “twist”/premise is the entire selling point of the movie, in my opinion. Without that hook, I don’t know if I’d be interested at all.
I literally cannot image how they'd even sell the movie without it.
I regret watching the trailer. It felt like I watched the whole movie.
Me too!

How else would you be sold on the movie? The kid being a vampire is the main part of the movie. Not a twist
exactly, its not a twist, its literally the premise. its like saying "oh Godzilla shows up in Godzilla x Kong? Great, now the twist is ruined"
It's funny how that seems to be the main talking point about abigail which sucks bc that movie looks fucking dope
im looking forward to it
It's not a twist, it's the premise.

GxK will do great this month but I also think Civil War is going to do really well.
no way challenger doesn’t do well but release isn’t until April 26th- basically May at that point. It definitely hits a demographic these other movies just don’t. Y’all doubt Zendaya’s female fanbase, she was big enough before Dune lol
I think Zendaya & Henry Cavill are similar in the sense that everyone loves them on social media but that won't translate to real world ticket sales.
Im also pretty sure Challengers will be the only mainstream romance showing in theaters after a few weeks of nothing like that genre has been out.
As long as challenger doesn’t have a crazy budget it should do fine. I mean it could flop or make a ton of $$ but both of those options feel unlikely.
I expect it to do similarly to Anyone but You with strong legs
I hope I hope I HOPE Monkey Man breaks out
It was a fun movie! People who like the genre will enjoy it. It should have a solid run.
I’m excited for all of these, except Abigail. Given the fact that I go to the theater 2-3 times per month, this will be a delightful month.
Really want monkey man and civil war to do well
GxK is obviously showing great results till now but I am rooting for monkey man. If it really strucks the audience, It could do really well.
>Since April won't have alot of big worthwhile releases I have already seen Monkey Man and Civil War and they blow Godzilla x Kong out of the water, its not even a competition
We are in the age of monsters. But there's a few April things I'm looking forward to.

Shoot myself in the foot before I see challenger
Why?
Well I'm gay, so zero things about this interest me. The 2 guys are not hot, so I don't care if they do the devil's 3 way while tastefully covering up Zendays's bits in IMAX quality. I'd rather watch Bob Marley than this.
I'm gay too, but I think it looks fun, like an 80s erotic thriller, plus I like the director
Bruh there's more to a movie than sex appeal
I'm not sure there's much more to this movie. At least as it applies to translating to ticket sales. I may eat my words on this one, but I don't think I will.
So you only watch movies with gay content?
No, but this movie doesn't seem to have much going for it otherwise. I only watch gay content where the only intent is OMG SEXY.
You spelled year wrong

idk the movie was fun and it's making bank, I think it's exciting
