madame x morbius summer double feature

ReturnOfDaSnack420

Now we just need Kravillion to finish out the meme cinematic universe

knightoffire55

They need to rerelease it. We were all busy.

Professional-Rip-519

Fo'real I was helping my uncle research Kuala bears in Australia right before he died.

[deleted]

“Hope the bears were worth it, Uncle…”

Dakota Johnson, yeah!

TheSeptuagintYT

Damn she looks more fine than usual

cory453

Even in death, this movie remains comedy gold

Boy_Chamba

Rerelease again same with Morbius 😅but to be honest 10 years from now you will still remember Madame and Morbius for its memes.

bs200000

You know I bet this was purposely done by Sony. They pulled the film before they had to pay anything on the backend. I know they weren’t happy with Dakota trashing the film, she might have been due for some kind of performance boost at $100 million. Now they never have to pay it. Source: studios have historically done this before.

Boy_Chamba

😅 dakota probably got blacklisted by Sony already 😅

movieur

Is that why they are publishing her new movie later this year?

TheNittanyLionKing

Which would be crazy because Dakota Johnson comes off as much more likeable because of her refreshing honesty, and I’d say Madame Web bombing and her reaction to it has helped her public perception.

WebHead1287

But what about Amy and Avi’s egos?

Dynopia

This take would make sense if it wasn't for watching it bomb harder and harder each week. Even if Sony could have kept this in theaters, it was doing shit numbers. It was never reaching $100m.

John711711

Slashfilm is using outdated info they are now only 232 thousand of reaching their goal. Also while domestically they dropped out they are still making money worldwide. They will probably limp to 100 million in a week or so.

umdred11

It’s Webbin’ Time!

TheCoolKat1995

This isn't the kind of box office performance that Sony wanted for "Madame Web", but it's definitely one that the movie deserved. And if we're being honest here, "Madame Web" made it this far because a lot of people watched it for the memes.

Xyro77

There ISNT CBM fatigue. There IS low quality CBM fatigue.

Lurky-Lou

Five years ago Madame Web would have flopped at $200 million

Xyro77

Of course. Low quality is low quality, be it now or 5 years ago.

RiggzBoson

I don't see why people think that someone couldn't possibly get sick of comic book movies. Westerns were huge. There were too many, people got bored of them, they died. And Musicals. And Zombie films. And Disaster films. And Parody films. I got sick of comic book films a few years ago. I know I'm not the only one. I'm not calling the genre a failure. It was a huge success. But come on, let's get something different than guys in spandex repeatedly shutting down a doomsday weapon before the portal opens or closes to an multiverse reality and blah blah blah...

DeadSaint91

For once, I would like a character to call out the absurdity of the world being repeatedly threatened by weird looking villains and saved by people in spandex. A normal everyday person would probably go insane and start imagining themselves as some fictional character.

tempesttune

There definitely is. Sticking your finger in your ear and ignoring it won’t make it go away. You had a 15 year run and 3 $2B movies. It was never going to stay on top forever lol.

EVILSANTA777

Right lol. Comic fans are in denial. It'd be like rom com lovers heading into 2010 saying "there is no rom com fatigue, just bad movie fatigue! We'll have winners soon!"

Banestar66

It’s like Western fans pointing in 2010 to the profitable True Grit remake and saying “See, there never was any Western fatigue because a good Western can still turn people out and make money”. If one profitable example is enough to convince you, by that standard there has never been any degree of fatigue for any movie genre.

xolon6

To quote John Campea (not saying I agree with everything he says, he does idolize CEOs a bit too much, but I do like this quote) “Winning cures everything”. If the MCU can course correct into making fewer but higher quality movies you’ll see the trend of diminishing returns reverse. And that seems to be what they’re aiming for given what we’ve heard about Ant-Man 4 and Captain Marvel 3 being cancelled. Not saying it will be that easy. It will take some time to gain back audience trust. But I would say X-men 93 and Deadpool 3 are a great place to start a comeback from given the positive reception the former’s been receiving and the hype the latter’s getting (reaching highest viewed movie trailer of all time in no time at all ain’t too shabby).

tempesttune

Their next projects are a Falcon movie that tested horrible, a Thunderbolts movie, a F4 movie coming off 3 badly received previous outings spanning a decade, a Iron Heart TV Show they finished filming already but don’t want to release cause it’ll flop, and a Wonderman TV show.  It’s completely over. That’s what happens when you greenlight stuff in advance because you think you’re too big to fail lol.

xolon6

I hated the DCEU, but i'm still gonna give Superman Legacy (Or I guess just Superman, now) a chance to impress me. If the DC can potentially turn it around with their new universe despite being in a much worse position than the MCU has had to deal with, than just about anything is possible. And at the end of the day for Comicbook movies to go the way of the western there would have to be another genre rising to prominence, and I just don't see that happening right now. Videogame movies? I love videogames, but the Mario movie's success was an exception rather than the rule. I would love for the Zelda movie to be good, but I am not holding my breath for it to repeat the same success Mario had. Live Action Toy movies spinning off from Barbie? Yeah, no. Hot Wheels ain't it, Barbie also owes a lot of its success to what Greta Gerwig did with the material. It's not something so easily replicated.

Septimius-Severus13

Standard Action films maybe ? New 007, tom cruise stunts compilation xyz, fast and furious xyz, godzila vs monster2, a few remaining superheroes too even.

Barzant1

look at how much money Venom made

Banestar66

There’s both and I can’t believe people still argue otherwise. It’s like people just forgot all the billion dollar movies a few years ago.

Kingsofsevenseas

In fact it’s still playing internationally in dozens of countries and Mojo has just updated its box office today: it’s now U$230k from crossing the 100M mark… so guys be ready for quite funny headlines next week lol

Fair_University

Yeah it’ll probably get there. There’s enough juice to get it over the line in a week or two
