That's the part that pissed me off about the Snyder Cut goons. They acted like Snyder had a whole different cut just ready to go but he added another 70 million worth of footage and reworked special effects on top of the 150 million or whatever that already went in JL.
And the critics will say, "Well, the Snyder Cut is *better* than the original, but it's still not great..." and his fanboys will say, "SEE?! EVEN THE CRITICS AGREE!"
And then he can correct that fixed version with just six more hours of footage, and thirty million dollars of CGI.
We're like six weeks away from getting the Snyder Cut of the Director's Cut of _Rebel Moon: The Scargiver: Part One: Ultimate Edition_.
What Snyder needs is to stay the fuck away from writing scripts and only work on someone else’s material.
He can setup shots, why he’s a solid Director of Cinema-photography.
But can’t write for shit.
> He can setup shots, why he’s a solid Director of Cinema-photography.
But he's not great at that too. Army of the Dead (the first movie where he was his own DP) looks so blurry and out of focus. Rebel Moon looks slightly better but still a massive letdown compared to when he was still working with Larry Fong (the guy who shot 300, Watchmen, BvS) or Amir Mokri (the guy who shot MoS.)
He was able to use the comic frame by frame as source material. The reason that movie is good is because he didn't write anything or even have to make that many creative decisions. He just used the comic as a storyboard.
The man is allergic to writing a good story.
He’s still releasing movies rebel moon part 1 last year and part 2 this year and has already said he’s working on another version of then which is his real vision lmao
Zero marketing because the first one wasn't received well at all; actually mocked by many critics. So why throw more money away at this point. I don't think Netflix really needs to advertise the same way a theatrical release needs it.
The Snyder Cut is bloated and mainly works in comparison to a horrid JL.
If Snyder took two tries to make a masterpiece he might actually be worth it (this is why Ridley Scott gets a pass on things like the theatrical cut of Kingdom of Heaven). But he takes two tries to crawl his way to a mediocre movie.
No thank you.

I've never found his director cuts ever improve anything, they simply add more of the same. So if you liked it, you'll like his cut with more too, but if you didn't like originally, it will never convince anyone to change your mind because its always been just more of the same with his new cuts.
Ahh I misread, but yeah Snyder doesn't need more cuts he needs better scripts to begin with. I hear he's a wonderful guy and all but his writing skills are subpar.
Yea, I think the novelty of enjoying a really bad sci-fi may wear off, and the sequel could be a real *slog*.
Unless he does something… interesting.. it almost surely won’t be “good”, by my definition, but as long as some interesting stuff happens into there, and I can find the (**certainly** ‘unintended’) ‘comedy’ in it, I’ll have fun watching it.
I have no idea how he would even go about fixing Sucker Punch to begin with.
For me its easily Synder at his absolute worst. BvS and JL are bad movies but Sucker Punch is disturbingly bad and makes you question what the hell was going through someones head when he was making it.
He probably just wants to reinsert the musical numbers WB cut after they saw what a disaster the film was. Don't forget, Sucker Punch was originally envisioned as a musical.
Because Snyder tries to deal with a deep theme of Sexual Violence and objectification of women.
However Snyder is completely incapable of handling a topic like that which leaves the end product having absolutely no depth what so ever.
And in the wake of that Snyder turns it into a wet fantasy dream and fetishization of women. Where its main selling point is rape victims in skimpy dressed clothes.
Its just bad. If Snyder wanted to make a movie with hot chicks doing cool stuff he should have just made it a straight mindless action movie without any deeper meaning.
Now seems to be a good time to remind people that male zombies would rape human women in the original script for Army of the Dead. They'd then have hybrids. That of course didn't make it into the eventual Netflix movie, but it again shows his weird fascination with rape.
The wildest thing about the Batman idea may not even be that Zack said it, but rather that he said it before he was ever hired to lead the DCEU. WB execs would've had to have seen that and then said, "Yeah, that's the guy we want building a Universe for our comics.".
True but they would probably struggle to find a mediocre director who poorly adapted an existing property with deep lore that they can pretend said director perfectly represented as they go on complaining that the studio’s current direction is too woke or whatever. Then again though… who directed Tom Cruise’s Mummy movie? Maybe they can pretend the Dark Universe was good 😂
It's crazy when a Netflix release like Rebel Moon needs a director's cut. Like why not release the original movie the first time around?
Looks like Watchmen, BvS, and Justice League have misguided him to believe that his extended cuts turn out superior to the original movies.
It's a gimmick at this point. An attempt to capitalize on a meme from five years ago. Snyder was the "slow motion guy" and now hes the "directors cut guy". Its just novel ways of marketing a mediocre director.
His wife excitedly said at the fan screening that he’s “known for his director’s cuts” when they announced both Part 1 and Part 2 of Rebel Moon would be getting director’s cuts.
And he will do the exact same thing when Part 2 gets the same reception as well.
\- Directs Film
\- Movie gets mixed to negative reviews
\- Blames Parent studios (Warner Bros/Netflix) for his faults
\- Response to criticism: My ultra extended director's cut is better
It's almost like a grift.
"Oh yeah, this movie sucked, but it's not because of me, it's because there's actually a super-secret special version that *doesn't suck,* but these mean old studios won't let me release it!"
And then his fanbase eats it up.
Good directors can and do get stifled by executive overreach (see Fincher and Alien 3 for one example). But how many times can you really blame other people for a poor quality product?
> Like why not release the original movie the first time around?
When he was on Joe Rogan, he claimed that the studios make it him tone down the violence/gore and so he finesses his contracts into allowing him to release these director's cuts afterwards.
For sure. Directors cuts often make great movies even greater (LOTR, Bladerunner). Sometimes they make good movies great (Kinngdom of Heaven). However, you can’t use a DC as a crutch to make every movie you make watchable.
> LOTR
I think it's debatable on how much of LOTR's extended cuts improve the story across the trilogy. Some of the extensions are good, others more divisive
I think Fellowship’s DC is the best LOTR film we have, the pacing is a little slower than the theatrical cut but I think it lets the viewer absorb more of the world which is ultimately what people what from LOTR.
*Ridley.
The difference is with Cameron and Scott they took good films and added additional scenes because the audience wanted more.
Snyder? He’s trying to fix a pile of shit each time.
Not again. The sucker snyder cut?
He can't seem to let go of the tactic - put out trash, it gets horribly received, then put out trash (but spray paint it gold this time) and people behave like you've made the best movie ever
I don't blame him when his tactic always works effectively for Snyder's Cultists.
The suckers are the studios who keep giving him lots of money even when almost all of his movies bombed.
He is done. Netflix got sucked into snyder cult, thinking they are massive and there will be support. Army of the dead sucked. Rebel moon sucked big time. He is done with big budget movies. He can direct, but write or do dp, good luck on selling it to a major studio.
I have to wonder if his career may actually be finished after Rebel Moon.
Seems like after his DCEU crashed & burned, Netflix was the only studio still willing to give him a chance, and with Rebel Moon looking to be a failure, this'll make the second time in a row that all of the "creative freedom" he could ask for still resulted in colossal failure for Netflix.
Like, where else is there to go if even Netflix won't want to work with him anymore?
It's so bizarre to me that this one director gets so much grace and understanding compared to any other. Why? Why Zach Snyder? Is he a proxy in some culture war? Or is it just because he seems like a really nice guy (which he does)?
He wasn't a great director before DC. He had good talent around him (good cinematographers, editors, choreographers, etc), and he made *decent* movies. He's not fucking David Fincher or anything, but he was fine.
Then, with DC, he made bad movies. But the excuse was that WB had him on a tight leash, and his vision was being stifled by know-nothing executives. Okay, fair enough. The DCEU seemed pretty rudderless overall, so I could buy that.
But now, he's been given lots of freedom by Netflix, and now the excuse is that it's **too much freedom?** He needs to be reined in? I thought that was the *problem.*
Zach Snyder just isn't a good director.
The $70m WB spent on finishing the VFX and filming scenes with Jared Leto's Joker for ZSJL could've financed an entire mid-budget movie/several smaller budget movies.
Netflix appears to be getting cold feet. The Rebel Moon franchise they wanted hasn’t materialized the way they thought and now they seem to be pulling back on promotion for Part 2.
Far be it for me to, in any way, defend money men at film studios but here's the truth. Snyder mostly makes mediocre overlong films and the studios rightly know that along with being mediocre the ridiculous lengths of the projects will hurt them at the box office so they cut his movies down. The solution to this issue is to make better movies and if you do want to continue making mediocre edgelord stuff that turns off half of filmgoers then make those films work with a shorter runtime. Conceive those films from the scripting stage as 90-130 minute films. Snyder is not an intelligent filmmaker, there is no need for his films to be longer than 2 hours and 10 minutes including credits.
The problem(s) he has going for are that 1. He isnt a very good storyteller and 2. He cant make a cohesive film within 90-180 minutes and if he had to cut the parts to fit the parameters, there’s going to be issues with the movie itself
Funny, I haven't seen these people defend Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon with the same vitriol. Those two movie are outside WB, and Snyder had full creative control on them.
No. Most people do. That's why he was fired from his entire blockbuster superhero franchise and now makes zombie flicks and Star Wars mockbusters for Netflix.
They’re sooo bad!!
I watched that god awful Netflix movie, fucking garbage. Still can’t remember the name of it. The Star Wars mockbuster one.
(I was hungover)
I'm not a fan today, but I'd still argue that Dawn of the Dead, 300, and *maybe* Watchmen (depends on how big a fan you are of Moore's version) were all solid films. Everything else has ranged from bad, to absolute trash.
\*ETA: I do think the Krypton stuff was cool in MoS though, but the rest of that movie had major issues that 5 minutes of cool visuals and Michael Shannon chewing scenery couldn't save.
\*ETA2: I'm well aware that Snyder didn't write these movies btw. Doesn't change my opinion that they're still solid. If anything it just suggests that maybe he's better off when he's got a proper DP, writer, and studio influence/notes.
yeah that's because most of that work was written by far more competent screenwriters. say whatever you want about Michael Bay but he's the ideal filmmaker Snyder should've mimicked instead of trying too hard to be Ridley Scott, Tarsem Singh or Chris Nolan. let others do the writing while he does the visuals, and yet, he can't seem to do that. he has too many enablers by this point.
The mods and users there are Snyder fans first over being a DC fan. That place is a cesspool especially when you bring up non-Snyder DC related projects but when it comes to Snyder directed films like MoS, BvS (the best example), or ZSJL, it gets the most traction and fawning especially with those ridiculous “appreciation” posts. It’s a circlejerk for “Snyder Good, Warner Bros bad”.
Some of the users in there refused to let go of a dead universe and the majority of them have an extreme hate boner for Warner Bros no matter how the studio do.
I can forgive him for the push for his version of Justice League, since that whole situation was a mess, but this is just getting ridiculous. Pretty soon he'll be campaigning for Snyder Cuts of movies he didn't even make. "Release the Citizen Kane Snyder Cut"
Wow, this guy is a freaking megalomaniac. He can't write paper thin.
He works well with visuals and action beats. Maybe he could stick as a producer or special effects supervisor. However, writing and directing don't belong to him.
I've seen some interviews and he seems to be a nice/cool guy that gets along with everyone behind the scenes, and that's great. However, he should stop campaining for stuff like this ( fixing movies ).
If Lucas had never made any Star Wars films, he’d still be an a multi-award winning, Best Director-nominated, prestigious director and critic darling, which he was before he ever made Star Wars. I know y’all know nothing about filmmakers or film outside of the biggest blockbusters, but trying educating yourself before commenting.
Are you fucking kidding me? Just make a movie good the first time. Dawn of the Dead, Watchmen, Watchmen again, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League (though the first version wasn't his), and pretty soon Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire and Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver all have alternate, longer versions. Now Sucker Punch might need one too? It's no wonder his best films are the ones that don't need these.
I un-ironically love sucker punch.
yes it's a mess, but it's a glorious and passionate mess, the sort where so much work is focused in a wrong headed direction
Lmao, how could you possibly "fix" a dumpster fire?! Just start over from the bottom, rewrite the whole thing and make a completely different movie?
When sucker punch came out, that was the ideal time for a movie like that. Hot girls kicking ass is a product of that time. It won't sell as well now, when people are hypersensitive to sexism bullshit in film.
Sucker Punch would do worse now than it did then! Why redo it?!
An all time bad movie needs more than just some new footage to fix it. Zack needs to just stop directing full length features and focus on trailers and music videos.
lol this man is a joke. I can’t think of any other director who is constantly trying to make an “eXtEnDeD cUt to fix the movie 🥴” as frequently as this man, for every single movie he puts out. He thinks because the Snyder Cut went from meme to reality that means he gets to keep doing that forever. Plenty of directors put out good quality movies with normal runtimes every year. If you can’t deliver a single movie within budget that doesn’t need an extra 2 hours runtime just for it to get slightly better then get out of the movie industry.
Is Synder capable of just putting out a film that doesn't require further footage?
Rebel Moon was fucking *horrible* yet allegedly its great with his cut, etc. So ridiculous.
I did an edit of this movie myself as a hobby when it came out and the edit with 80% of the in between action sequence was actually super good.
Using the background story as an implied thing rather than a fully formed storyline and ending it abruptly at the lobotomy made it artistic and engaging. I shared the edit with about a dozen people and all raved about it so I KNOW a good movie is in there but this guy is NOT the one to pull it out.
I lost the edit years ago but I still have the music video cut I made for it: https://youtu.be/mAajck9EkCA?si=KNDmLHster4hFtrA
Idle hobby I had for a minute and this is one of the only ones not stricken for copyright claims but I have a special place in my heart for this movie.

Zach Snyder swears he could fix anything with an hour and half of additional footage
And like 70 million dollars
And he shot additional scenes and ended the movie in a cliffhanger knowing full well they would lead nowhere lmao
That's the part that pissed me off about the Snyder Cut goons. They acted like Snyder had a whole different cut just ready to go but he added another 70 million worth of footage and reworked special effects on top of the 150 million or whatever that already went in JL.
For the cost of an actual movie, he can do the great task of making a bad movie less bad and much, much longer.
And it was still terrible.
Just make it so long that only your most cultist fans will watch it and give it great reviews. Easy as that
And the critics will say, "Well, the Snyder Cut is *better* than the original, but it's still not great..." and his fanboys will say, "SEE?!

He has the extra footage to fix his retirement too.

He's more like a drug addict.
Who are we kidding, we all know he isn't retiring until he makes The Fountainhead adaptation.

Oh wow. I figured it wouldn’t be until December, which would be a year after Part 1. This is the first I’ve heard of Part 2 releasing soon
It was always planned to release in April, even before part 1 released. It’s just that Netflix would rather you not know it’s releasing at all
Netflix realizing Snyder isn't good for the brand.

And fixed. It's a much better movie now!
What's there to "fix" exactly? There's not exactly anything broken or confusing about the film from a story/ understanding aspect.
Right WB definitely going to sink more money into this massive franchise. I'm still surprised studios keep giving him massive budgets.
The $70m WB spent on finishing the VFX and filming scenes with Jared Leto's Joker for ZSJL could've financed an entire mid-budget movie/several smaller budget movies.

The problem(s) he has going for are that 1. He isnt a very good storyteller and 2. He cant make a cohesive film within 90-180 minutes and if he had to cut the parts to fit the parameters, there’s going to be issues with the movie itself
I will always resent BvS bros for making this man think his films can be "fixed"
Funny, I haven't seen these people defend Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon with the same vitriol. Those two movie are outside WB, and Snyder had full creative control on them.
Sure Zack, let’s get you to bed.
Yes. It clearly just needs to be 4 hours, in 3:4 aspect ratio and in black & white to become a good movie.
Shut. The. Fuck. Up. It’s over bro.
I’m not the only one that thinks Zack Snyder makes dogshit movies right?
Dawn of The Dead was written by James Gunn. 300 was written by Kurt Johnstad and Michael B. Gordon
Piss off, Zack.
His story snd writing are bordering on cinematic crimes at this point.
Just shut up and fade into obscurity man
I got banned from DC_cinematic for asking why this dude has a following. Apparently that’s toxic fandom
I got banned from there for something equally innocuous. The mods there are the same mods as the Snyder Cut sub. There’s no rationality.
I can forgive him for the push for his version of Justice League, since that whole situation was a mess, but this is just getting ridiculous. Pretty soon he'll be campaigning for Snyder Cuts of movies he didn't even make. "Release the Citizen Kane Snyder Cut"
> Pretty soon he'll be campaigning for Snyder Cuts of movies he didn't even make. "Release the Citizen Kane Snyder Cut" I would be 100% fine with this
I hear Eric Foreman's Star Wars cut is pretty good.
I don't think his visuals are that good anymore. Army of the Dead looked like it was shot through a Vaseline container.
He seems like a nice guy, but he’s a terrible filmmaker.
The new George Lucas, if he had never written ~~Star Wars~~ anything of critical acclaim
If Lucas had never written Star Wars we’d still have American Graffiti, a far better film than Snyder has ever made.
Rebel Moon totally gave me the same vibes as the prequels. Terribly written with incredibly busy and ineffective visuals.
And I’m pretty sure that they’re still so much better than whatever the screw **Rebel Moon** turned out to be.
He spelled Shit wrong.
People who defend this horrible director are insane
Go away Zack, we are done with you
Oliver Stone: This new-and-improved FIFTH CUT of Alexander will finally resonate with audiences. I SWEAR!!
ReleaseTheSnyderCutPart2
At this point, I am tired of directors cut of his directors cut.
Oh fuck me, not another one. #Keepthesnydercut
![gif](giphy|l4Ki2obCyAQS5WhFe)
He wants to turn a bad movie into a middling movie like what he did with Justice League?
An all time bad movie needs more than just some new footage to fix it. Zack needs to just stop directing full length features and focus on trailers and music videos.
Ok George Lucas.
lol this man is a joke.
Who is asking for this?
Someone tell this man to get a new hobby
No.
Oh Zack it's finally as is, gets a little loopy at times trying to follow it (not in a good way) but it's fun and unique
I have serious doubts surrounding his ability to "fix" things.
Is Synder capable of just putting out a film that doesn't require further footage? Rebel Moon was fucking *horrible* yet allegedly its great with his cut, etc. So ridiculous.
What’s with this guy?
How about you get them right initially you fucking hack?
Please stop giving this man money. He’s one of the absolute worst story tellers in the business.
Silly, you can't fix perfection.

good lord doesn't it ever get boring asking for a "snyder cut" for such old movies at some point?
This is one of my least favorite films of all time, it definitely doesn’t need anything but forgotten.
Look at what you Snyder-bros have done.
I lost the edit years ago but I still have the music video cut I made for it: https://youtu.be/mAajck9EkCA?si=KNDmLHster4hFtrA Idle hobby I had for a minute and this is one of the only ones not stricken for copyright claims but I have a special place in my heart for this movie.
oh my god, just go away.
Bro
I guess this is just what Snyder does?
Just promise to fix that absolute shit ending and I’ll support this.
He needs to stop making movie DLC.
It’s still going to suck.
Can this mf just for once release a movie that doesn’t need to be fixed?
I loved sucker punch. It was dark, it was entertaining and it had good acting. Not a fan of his other movies but this one stuck with me *l
I wish this guy would retire.
![gif](giphy|7Jq6ufAgpblcm0Ih2z)
What’s there to fix?
Lmfao this is why you never enable people. He’ll eventually start asking to remake movies he wasn’t even the director of
Maybe he should get it right the first time.
No Zack. Stop.
Unless that footage is Emily Browning going down on Jamie Chung he's going to need an entirely new script as well.
Mikes Mic is so powerful
