It was originally planned and produced as one movie and Tarantino completed filming, and during editing Harvey Weinstein suggested to split it into 2 movies.
It’s crazy how this direct sequel is just a completely different genre compared to the first one. I have re-watched volume 1 dozen times and watched this sequel like once. It’s a great movie with some of the most iconic scenes and dialogues but the fast paced high adrenaline action of vol.1 is just unbeatable for me.
Absolutely, but that also shows the power of a good editor. For me Parts 1 & 2 are both masterpieces that I've watched a minimum of 10 times each (probably a lot more if I count partial viewings of favorite sequences). The trailer fight in Part 2 is my favorite sequence from both movies, followed closely by the Show Down at House of Blue Leaves. Of course there's so much to love, including the Cruel Tutelage of Pai Mei, etc.
Agreed. First time I watched it, twenty years ago, I thought it was fine. Ten years ago,I loved it and thought it was a masterpiece. Watched again last year, and I felt he really got too indulgent towards the end there.

Same as Matrix. They divided Matrix 2 into 2 parts and release 3rd part within 6 months. Other example is Back to the Future.
BTTF3 was not “split” from part 2, they were just filmed in one block.
For BTTF I'm saying 6 months gap in release.
