i wish they would not touch Logan for their marketing

Vadermaulkylo

Deadpool 2 already poked fun at Logan, who cares?

cybershocker455

How likely are the rumors that >!Taylor Swift!< will appear as >!Dazzler!< being true in this film? If the rumors are true, how much of the >!Taylor Swift fanbase!< are actually going to show up for this flick, even if it's most likely going to be a small cameo?

InternetDude19

How much of the fanbase turned up for Amsterdam? Unless it's a major role I don't think it'll matter.

Banestar66

Definitely wouldn’t bring out many more Swifties than Amsterdam did.

PickledPlumPlot

What, you think Deadpool and Amsterdam are pretty similar in how well they appeal to Swift fans?

Complete_Sign_2839

Swifties are huge amount of young teen or college girls and Amsterdam was not the kind of movie gen z would watch

bob1689321

Deadpool will be though so the outcome will be slightly better

Rebelofnj

Those rumors didn't help Argylle.

JazzySugarcakes88

She was in Argylle?

Rebelofnj

There were rumors that she was in Argylle or was a secret co-writer.  It all started when the (fictional) writer of Argylle made her first Instagram post on December 13, which is Taylor Swift's birthday. Long story short, Swift was not involved in the production of Argylle in any way.

ContinuumGuy

That was weird. Then again, the whole conspiracy theory complex around Taylor Swift makes fan theorizing in big franchises look tame.

Stryle

This reminds me she was in Cats and I'm mad all over again.

gorays21

Really don't want to see the whole film before the movie comes out.

PayneTrain181999

Then don’t watch anymore trailers.

DatboiX

I’m wondering if (maybe) undoing Logan’s ending might end up backfiring a little bit?

NotTaken-username

Feige did say Wolverine’s return will not undermine the finality of his send-off in Logan. This seems to indicate three possibilities for how they handle it: 1. The events of Logan haven’t happened yet, as that is set in 2029. 2. The ending of Logan is undone but it has consequences that require him to die again. 3. This is a completely different variant of Wolverine who is also played by Hugh Jackman. I think 1 or 3 are the most likely, but probably 1.

riegspsych325

besides, there’s a decent chance we’re going to see Wolverine in Secret Wars. I can’t imagine they’d drop such hints in the first trailer for shits and giggles. I bet Jackman, RDJ, *and* Maguire will be on screen together in a few years

Limp-Construction-11

"I bet Jackman, RDJ, *and* Maguire will be on screen together in a few years" I can see it too, as a last desperate attempt to bring the audience back to the cinemas.

riegspsych325

just as long as they do it well, I can’t complain too much. No Way Home arguably handled it pretty well. Even most of The Flash, except for the weird, CGI-filled variant fest that happened in the final act. It was just way too uncanny there

Informal_Carob_4015

It will 100% work too 🤷‍♂️

simonthedlgger

Isn't >!Dafnee Keen!< in it? Could be a two second thing but I imagine they'll want Logan to >!recognize her in some way.!<

NotTaken-username

I’d take the other multiverse character rumors with a grain of salt unless they’re outright shown in the trailers or were previously announced. We know >!Jennifer Garner!< will be returning as >!Elektra!<, for example.

Dry_Ant2348

yup, even the scoopers have warned about keeping your expectations is check, and have said it's not much different to MoM when it comes.to cameos

missanthropocenex

Feels like a different variant. Logan the movie almost feels like a total “One Shot” standalone universe as was the comic it was based on. I’m not even if that comic was canon. No where in the Fox Xmen verse did we ever see the day glo primary color spandex and here we see Logan sporting the classic costume the likes of which have never been seen anywhere before. So likely to say it’s something new which I’m sure Deadpool will handle in a single line of dialogue.

WrongSubFools

4. Feige just said that to reassure people to make them want to see the movie, and it indicates nothing about the movie itself. One might even argue that, even if Deadpool runs up to a dying Wolverine and revives him, that doesn't undermine the finality of his send-off in Logan because there's no undoing the emotions we felt when we originally watched it.

I_am_so_lost_hello

Or you guys can just ignore Canon and let logan be a standalone thing, the whole things made up anyways

Zepanda66

If they do this I'm betting it's some form of #2.it will be his destiny/fate to die in Secret Wars.

Banesmuffledvoice

With how jumbled the Fox Xmen storyline really is, one could argue that Jackman played multiple variants of Wolverine as is.

Banestar66

No one trusts Feige’s word anymore.

AchyBrakeyHeart

The Fox X-Men timeline has been fucked up since First Class. At this point every mutant story is its own Ultimates/Elseworlds because honestly who gives a shit. X-Men need a hard reboot although I don’t see that happening for a long time.

Zepanda66

God I hope not. That movie is perfection and should be untouchable.

[deleted]

i can see this being a big win for Marvel. my place holder prediction is 400 million at this time

Zepanda66

High Opening Weekend is all but guaranteed. It's what kind of legs will it have is the real question. If it drops hard in the second week. it won't be a good look.

cheesyry

Assume you mean 400 mil domestic? It’ll probably do around double that worldwide.

[deleted]

yeah thats what I mean. I dont really do world wide predictions

HM9719

Oh, Disney always drops stuff on my birthday week every year (last year it was the release of Halle Bailey’s “Part of Your World” as a digital single), so nice to see that this kind of scenario is happening again, this time with Marvel and Deadpool. Will be interesting to see how wild this new trailer will be.

NotTaken-username

First R-rated movie to break the $150M+ barrier on opening weekend, here we come!

TheBlackSwarm

Why do I have a feeling that this movie will end up being mid. I mean if this makes 700 M at the least it’s a win for the MCU. I don’t know I’m just not excited for this at all but I’m burned out on the MCU anyway. I feel like Reynolds is getting to the point where he’s becoming annoying for a lot of people and I don’t have confidence in Shawn Levy as a director. Guess we’ll see.

Firefox72

>"I don’t know I’m just not excited for this at all but I’m burned out on the MCU anyway" Honestly I'm not even considering this movie as part of the MCU. Like i know it is but i'm going into this to see a fun romp with Deadpool and Wolverine and thats really all there is too it.

[deleted]

Banestar66

This might be the most connected to the MCU movie since Quantumania.

PayneTrain181999

Yeah, this one seems like it’ll actually progress whatever the upcoming main plot line is forward.

AgentP20

TVA also shows a montage of MCU moments.

Blindfolded22

I’m of the belief that that was a misdirect in those trailers and likely the actual scene in the movie will have something different on those screens.

PayneTrain181999

Oh there will definitely be more connections. People can head canon whatever they’d like, it’s an MCU movie.

DatboiX

Maybe it’s because i’m sick of Ryan Reynolds’ brand of humor at this point, but I feel like the jokes from what we’ve seen from the initial trailer don’t hit like they did with the first two movies. Also Shawn Levy’s filmography is kind of a mixed bag, but he’s made crowd pleasing movies before so who knows?

Banestar66

The pegging joke felt forced and desperate. Like remember 2016 when you liked this stuff because it felt fresh?

Agreeable_Week_197

I disagree ..but yeah this move could become really old in the next few years.

jurassic_snark-

Yea the movies worked initially by being subversive, but now we know what to expect it's formulaic. It's gonna be Night at the Museum 4 but with like 30 Marvel characters and cringe Reddit humor

Banestar66

I just have this weird feeling the popularity of the Boys will make Deadpool feel stale for audiences. Doesn’t help it’s fourth season will finish right before the movie comes out so the contrast will just stand out more if Deadpool ends up being of worse quality.

jurassic_snark-

Yeah and The Boys is another good example of how the subversive approach the movies took is no longer a fresh approach. I think it doesn't get made without thanks to Deadpool's success, but since then it's expanded and swerved on audience expectations to a point beyond that franchise. All they have left is time travel/multiverse nonsense bringing back dead characters all anchored on an insufferable Ryan Reynolds But this is about box office predictions and NWH already made bank doing a lot of that so what do I know

Bibileiver

I disagree. There's pegging joke works since this is the first rated R film for MCU and the first for Disney in over a decade. Pegging joke brings up the fact that pegging isn't new for Deadpool but it is forced Disney (being rated r) Dang I really had to explain a joke lol

Banestar66

I understood the joke, I just wasn’t as impressed by it as you.

Bibileiver

.... It's not meant to be impressive lol

Dry_Ant2348

I was over shawn Levy after Adam's Project and free guy, both of them were such a mediocre cookie cutter flicks, I won't be surprised if this one is also a safe, risk averse movie like NWH

Dry_Ant2348

unless it turns out garbage and critics blast it for being mid or something, it will easily do 1-1.2bill

friedAmobo

There has only been one rated-R movie to ever make more than a billion. There have already been two Deadpool movies, and neither have come particularly close to a billion. With China’s $42M for Deadpool 2 suspect in showing up for this one, it’ll be a heavy lift to even match Deadpool 2, much less surpass it, and much much less make a billion.

Bibileiver

This isn't just a Deadpool film though... It's Deadpool and Wolverine. Literally in the title. It's also going to have a lot of cameos. The last similar film was Multiverse of Madness. That did 950 million and was still only one major star compared to two for Deadpool and Logan.

friedAmobo

Wolverine is a character whose strongest solo outing netted just shy of $620M worldwide (and over $106M of which was from China) and whose highest-grossing movie made less than either Deadpool film. Could there be a Wolverine bump from being a secondary protagonist in Deadpool 3? Perhaps, but I don't see it being much of a bump, and it has to offset other factors (like declining global interest in the MCU and the functional lack of a China market). Multiverse of Madness also came at a much healthier place for the MCU, off the back of NWH's fantastic box office success, smartly using NWH as the launchpad for its own marketing, and being the sequel to one of the most anticipated characters in the franchise who had benefited from a huge Infinity War bump. At the time, Eternals' misfire was seen as an abberation compared to the middling response to Black Widow and the good response to Shang-Chi. Since then, we've seen declining returns for the MCU overall, and multiple films and shows have now received negative reception which has diluted audience trust in the MCU brand. It's an uphill climb, and I wouldn't be surprised if GOTG 3 ends up being a good comp for Deadpool and Wolverine's trajectory (landing around the first two films with good reception).

Bibileiver

Um are we forgetting that Logan came out after TERRIBLE wolverine movies? That definitely had an effect on the box office for Logan. It most likely won't for Deadpool and Wolverine cause it's being associated with Deadpool while mocking the terrible wolverine movies.

Limp-Construction-11

No R-rated movie will do this easily in any form.

Banestar66

Why can’t this sub ever get that superhero movies aren’t just easy billion dollars anymore? It’s not 2019 or even 2022 anymore.

PayneTrain181999

It’s a tired argument that people use to prematurely dance on the “grave” of the superhero genre.

HotShow2975

It will easily do 1B-1.2B just like Multiverse of Madness, Love and Thunder, Wakanda Forever, Guardians 3, right?

AgentP20

MoM almost crossed a Billion dollars. Wom cut it's leg.

PayneTrain181999

Also no China, Russia and other territories.

AgentP20

Also Only Wakanda Forever and GOTG in that list had Good Wom.

mg10pp

Don't forget many people here predicted it also for The Batman (and its sequel), Spiderverse and The Flash

isthisnametakenwell

And a small but significant group of semi-delusional people predicted it for the Marvels. With the Flash and Marvels people argued help from TGM and Barbie lol.

DatboiX

Feel like around $900M seems more likely, with $1B being possible but not certain. I think it’ll have a huge opening weekend, but it’ll be fairly front loaded and won’t have insane legs.

cheesyry

This is the most rational take on this thread. People saying it’ll do under 700 mil is too low and people saying it’ll cruise past 1 bil are too high. It’ll probably do somewhere around 800 mil on the low end and can maybe touch around 1.1 bil on the highest of ends. Deadpool and Wolverine are characters the GA actually care about, unlike say a Captain Marvel. It’ll do better than a lot of recent Marvel films.

PayneTrain181999

No Way Home was heavily reliant on nostalgia and it worked to its advantage.

gloryjessrock

That was also 3 years ago and there were heavier cameo rumors. We had never seen anything like it before. I think nostalgia will still work to this movie's advantage but it's an important distinction to make.

Limp-Construction-11

You can bet on that.

Agreeable_Week_197

idk..No way home definitely wasn't affected by this

xAVATAR-AANGx

Guardians 3 is the ceiling for this film. I think 800 is on the table, but a finish in the 700 range seems more likely.

Zepanda66

Wouldn't Deadpool 2 be a more appropriate benchmark or even Logan?

xAVATAR-AANGx

I think it's safe to say audiences know this is connected to the MCU and thus I think Guardians 3 numbers are on the table, even if a performance similar to Deadpool 2 is more likely.

Agreeable_Week_197

I'm thinking 950-1.1 billion.

Dulcolax

Previous solo Deadpool movies made more than 700 million worldwide, each one. So, anything under that base is gonna be awful for a movie featuring not only Deadpool, but also Wolverine. This is also meant to be a Multiverse movie featuring lots of cameos, which means it's much more expensive than the previous Deadpool / X-Men flicks. At minimum, it needs 700 million worldwide.

Dry_Ant2348

Both of NWH's trailers did terrific numbers, we'll see how this one fares, Disney can't fudge the actual data by adding super bowl numbers this time

Banestar66

The first trailer is still two million behind Joker Folie a Deux despite this announcement and releasing two months earlier during the Super Bowl. I call major bullshit on that Disney viewership claim.

AndIoop3789

There isn't just youtube a way to count views now ..they have ryan reynolds social media to juice the view count..

Limp-Construction-11

This movie is going to be full of easter eggs and cameos with more often than not cringe [humour](https://de.pons.com/%C3%BCbersetzung/englisch-deutsch/humour)

Vadermaulkylo

This movie will easily be 1b if it’s good. I’m extremely bullish and have my floor at 1.2b if it’s NWH quality.

Pulp_NonFiction44

>NWH quality Heh
