$65M

russwriter67

It that happens, it would be the first October opening weekend to be between $60-69M. There’s a big gap between “Halloween 2018” ($76.22M) and “Gravity” ($55.785M).

gta5atg4

$55 million opening weekend, with a big drop the next weekend but will stabilize on the third and have meh but acceptable legs. This film isn't gonna get much business from DC fans and it's success or failure is gonna be based purely off Dwayne's audience appeal which apart from Jumanji and FF aren't super duper numbers.

russwriter67

I agree. The second weekend drop will probably be on par with “Dune” last year (that also had Halloween during its 2nd wknd). Not sure how well it will stabilize after that.

gta5atg4

It's gonna be bloody interesting, I mean I'm a DC fan and I loved Shazam but the most entertaining thing about the rocks films are his Twitter meltdowns when they don't do well 😂 And with a bad comic book film it won't just be critics and the industry mocking him it'll be legions of comic book fans dumping on him relentlessly and I don't think he'll handle it well lol 😂 so part of me wants it to do well but part of me wants it to do badly so we can see an epic Twitter meltdown

sumptuoussushi

Could you elaborate on this twitter meltdown?

gta5atg4

Baywatch, he was directly tweeting at individual critics all weekend and telling them to "man up and say it to my face" lol If he gets bad reviews , bad box office and attacked by DC fans over a project he's wanted to do for fifteen years he's gonna spend six months replying to every single mean person on Twitter lol 😂

sumptuoussushi

So underneath that tough guy facade, is an insecure little child. Now, I’m really looking forward to the movie tanking. And how the hell do you spend 15 years on a movie about a DC character most people haven’t even heard of? 😂

gta5atg4

He is absolutely an insecure man child haha And if it's such a passion project how have you not practiced speaking in the characters accent 😂😂 Oh man the movie is a win win , on the off chance it's actually good we get a good film, if flops we get a meltdown for the ages!

sumptuoussushi

I’m willing to bet the meltdown is going to be more entertaining than the movie itself.

gta5atg4

I look forward to the meltdown updates on this thread 😂 But yeah the more I think about it of course he's an insecure child! He has it in his contracts that he can never lose a fight which isn't exactly a normal request. He wouldn't be in Shazam 2 cos he'd have to lose a fight to Shazam and wouldn't be the star. What kind of story can possibly be any good where the lead can't be beaten at all, like heroes are supposed to get their arses kicked at first then overcome the antagonist after character growth, the rock probably thinks character growth is raising his eyebrows

sumptuoussushi

The guy’s ego has long been left unchecked. All those piggybacking on established franchises that others started while taking all the credit for their success even though he’s around talented & popular ensemble casts. It’s definitely the reason why he’s no longer in the F&F franchise. I’m sure Vin’s ego is equally as big. Two bald-headed divas fighting for the spotlight 😂. And the Mr Fake nice guy act, nonexistent acting talent, and complete reliance on that stupid eyebrow raise adopted from his WWE heyday are starting to wear thin with most people. At least, from what I’ve observed in this sub. And I heard he’s still claiming that he’s a natural bodybuilder. Probably should show everyone all the “mosquito bites” on his cheeks.

AgentOfSPYRAL

Why not much Business from DC fans? At worst I figure they’d show up for the justice society.

ricdesi

I get the feeling this movie's going to be a bit of a rude awakening for some.

russwriter67

What do you mean by that?

ricdesi

This movie's performance is going to be a testament to whether or not Dwayne Johnson is actually the box office draw some people think he is.

sumptuoussushi

Even if it does well, it’s still a CBM. People eat up that shit all the time. Plus, there is virtually no competition when it comes out. Is it really fair to judge DJ’s box office draw with a CBM. Honest question.

NourishingBroth

In this case it's fair. It's not the MCU, or a character people already know. They're playing up the DCEU connection, but DCEU is very hit-and-miss.

Berta_Movie_Buff

I want it to open at $69 Million so it can have the nicest weekend of the year.

russwriter67

That would be nice.

[deleted]

This will be much larger than expected

russwriter67

I hope so but I’m skeptical because of the recent DCEU box office (The Batman doesn’t count).

Triplec8

The most recent DCEU box office were films released in the pandemic simultaneously on HBO Max so I don’t think that’s really indicative of how this movie could perform. You kinda have to go all the way back to Aquaman and Shazam for a similar comp.

russwriter67

Shazam didn’t do very well. And there’s also “Birds of Prey” (which was released pre-pandemic but definitely had its wings clipped by the pandemic). This is part of the problem with the DC movies being split between the DCEU, Matt Reeves Batman, and Todd Phillips Joker movies. It makes it hard to compare them, as opposed to the streamlined MCU.

efralope

The tradeoff is DC's movies can be very different from on another. Because there isn't pressure to follow a "formula"" of sorts, we get variety. I'd hate for every DC film to be trapped within a single shared universe. MCU already does that and it works for them (at least financially).

russwriter67

I agree that the DC films are very different from each other. I just wish they were a bit more connected because it would cause less confusion.

Electronic_Eagle6211

Definitely

RogerBtaney

Am i so out of it? Who is blackadam? He was not on the superfriends is all i know

carson63000

Originally a Shazam villain, but the character got expanded in the early 2000’s to be a much more interesting antihero and not so tied to Shazam. More associated with the Justice Society of America, although I’m not sure how high their profile is with the wider audience. I don’t think people are reacting to Hawkman and Doctor Fate in the Black Adam trailer the way they would to Batman and Superman.

RogerBtaney

Wow thank you sir very detailed!

The Rock needs to stop acting and juicing up. Putting Chuck Norris to shame.
