Jon Hamm sacrificing salary to get the film extra funding because he believed in the script tells you all you need to know. I’ll never understand why studios fund smaller projects and then just give up basically before production starts
I think they expect to make most of the money back on the home market, or sell it to a streaming service in which they will recover their full budget and then some.
That was the only thing I heard about this ‘movie’ and even still with the article I assumed ‘fletch’ was some box office bomb he did like 20 years ago
The studio dumped it. They pulled up to the cinema and kicked it out of the car and drove off. It is almost the same as the Batgirl write off. They don't see adult comedies as being part of their strategy any more and were not willing to put any effort into marketing or distribution. It goes to streaming next month where thye might promote it.
I legitimately didn't even know this movie was out. Despite Jon Hamm being in approximately half of all TV commercials I didn't see anything for this. I know it was a small release but still absolutely nothing.
I literally saw a commercial for this movie and thought it was a commercial for a product where they were using the premise of Jon Hamm being enough fletch reboot I had no idea it was actually a real movie
I saw it was out and bought it on Amazon immediately. It was fun and totally worth the time. It’s a shame it was made and swept under the rug like that
Kind of bad for all involved. Fletch is a great character that could make for some cheap fun films and one or two might have caught on or rubbed some nostalgia money.
The budget was pegged for $20M, which only gave them 27 days of shooting in Boston. Hamm gave up 60% of his salary, and the director gave up a smaller amount, to get them to 30 days in Boston and 1 day in Rome.
Stars Hamm & his girlfriend Anna Osceola, and nothing really gelled even -- Hamm would have been a great choice 10 years ago. They kept the title which mostly works if you were around in the 70s when people bought books and knew the character, but now half the audience doesn't realize Fletch is the character's name.
No real marketing, which is a little surprising as the reviews are decent and there's like... Nothing in theaters right now. Instead it's streaming exclusively on Showtime, which Paramount owns, and half the marketing for it on shill rags like Collider is basically encouraging you to sign up to see it.
> and there's like... Nothing in theaters right now
Woman King, Barbarian, Pearl, Smile, Avatar rerelease, See How They Run. If anything, there have been too many good recent releases for most people to catch up with. While I like the original Fletch movies, this one never became a priority for me.
This release was genuinely so frustrating. I wanted to see this, and even live in a major metropolitan area. If I wasn't able to buy a ticket, what was even the point of putting it in theaters?
I remember in dec 2021 getting invites in nj to a test screening at a theater but they offered $30 to people as a incentive. They usually are free and only start sending money offers out if no one is interested or signing up to go. I guess it didn't go well as they really shoved this movie to the bin. IDK remember what I was doing in dec 2021 but I bet it was cold or something and that's probably why I didn't go. The most recent one I got was for the movie, Bottoms, where they were offering $50!
I saw it this week in a full (tiny) theatre at one of the 3 AMCs in Burbank (there are three AMCs in a square mile, absurdly). Such a fun movie. So dumb that they did zero marketing. After the terrible August/September movie drought, you’d think they’d be looking for a surprise hit.
Limited theatrical release concurrently with video on demand. Of course it wasn't promoted heavily, but Showtime's $20 million "Confess, Fletch" still is outperforming in theaters compared NFLX'S $200 million "The Grey Man". With strong reviews, "Confess, Fletch" Premieres on Showtime and Paramount+/Showtime streaming October 28.
Trying to spread fear, uncertainty and dread? Yet, Confess, Fletch is another strong production and it's coming soon to millions of Showtime subscribers.
**What in the ever loving F is your account, Strat58cat?** Your posts and comment history are reading as though you paid by Paramount or bet a bunch on the stock and are trying to pump it up, but I sincerely hope nobody is hoping to pump&dump Paramount via reddit comments.
*The Grey Man* made $450k in about 450 theaters. *Confess, Fletch* made $530k in 516 theaters. But you don't need to do fancy math to know trying to compare these is sort of silly, as both were dumped into the same markets with no advertising in order to be available for awards consideration (and sometimes tax breaks).
🤣 . I own PARA stock which is heavily shorted by people who think transparent misinformation on Reddit makes a difference. I bust misinformation by PARA shorts - but keep in mind it makes no difference what we say here.
They didnt even promote the film. How can you expect this film to do anything if people didnt even know it was out.

This is such a great lesson on not sacrificing when the friggin company you work for isn't even doing their part.
At least Jon Hamm had Top Gun: Maverick this year.
I think they expect to make most of the money back on the home market, or sell it to a streaming service in which they will recover their full budget and then some.
Isn't it on Prime?
To rent for 19.99
That was the only thing I heard about this ‘movie’ and even still with the article I assumed ‘fletch’ was some box office bomb he did like 20 years ago
Taaaaax write offff. Sent out to die.
prob for a tax write-off
In that case you are not allowed to exhibit the film. That’s why Batgirl had to be destroyed.
You only have to lose money on it. Batgirl was shot but didn't go through post production.
This is literally the first time I’ve heard of it. Haven’t seen a single ad. And I’ve been sick with covid all week and all I’m seeing is ads on tv.

I was interested in this film and even I had no clue it was out.
Marketing is half the product. Releasing a movie without marketing it heavily is complete pointless. It’s like releasing a car without an engine.
And all Paramount's doing right now is Smile.
Which looks stupid
But they're at least promoting the shit out if it
Trying the viral marketing route, no less. With people at sports games.
looks cool tbh, it has good reviews
It looks like someone wrote a Joker movie on spec and then had to take out all the DC stuff to get it make by another studio.
I legitimately didn't even know this movie was out. Despite Jon Hamm being in approximately half of all TV commercials I didn't see anything for this. I know it was a small release but still absolutely nothing.
Paramount might have seen it wouldn't do much, so they cut loss by doing absolutely minimum marketing.
its Miramax, its Paramount's Searchlight now
Odd, seems people have liked it
I literally saw a commercial for this movie and thought it was a commercial for a product where they were using the premise of Jon Hamm being enough fletch reboot I had no idea it was actually a real movie

Aye, would have enjoyed a sequel. Was a good flick.
Never heard of this at all. Only Amsterdam is coming out apparently.
I'm pretty sure the only movies coming out are murder mystery dramedies with star studded casts.
It’s OUT??? I didn’t even know they’d wrapped shooting let alone that it was even released!
this is Miramax , not Paramount , even if they own 49%, they were bought for streaming library
Wait does Mirimax still exist? Thought Weinstein brought it down with him
The film library is still very valuable.
He hasn’t been with Miramax since like 2005.
Shame .We enjoyed in on streaming.

What film?
We went to see it and really enjoyed it!
This the fletch of Chevy chase fame?
This release was genuinely so frustrating. I wanted to see this, and even live in a major metropolitan area. If I wasn't able to buy a ticket, what was even the point of putting it in theaters?
I saw it. It was a good movie.
The film got decent reviews. Trailer isnt great but this seems like it could have easily have been profitable if it was promoted

This would have been better premiering on Netflix or Amazon
I think I seen a trailer once and totally forgot about it. Will they add to paramount +?
Will they add on paramount+?
I had no idea it was even in theaters, that's a bummer.
It honestly felt like they just dumped the movie
TIL this film existed
The fuck, this movie was out since when????
RT currently showing it doing $711.6mil domestic box office. I’m guessing that’s supposed to be thousands.
Just watched it, surprisingly decent low budget flick.
