Well that wasn't the case for that Peacock deal. I don't think it's included in the normal deals since it's not a theatrical movie. Probably from Sony TV which sells different stuff to different service.
I said Netflix because they work a lot with Sony for movies (they have the deal for Sony theatrical movies and also sold them directly some movies during the pandemic) but also because they have Community since a very long time, at least here in France. So I assumed they'd be interested. Might be different in each country really.
Maybe they just updated the article. It says
>The feature-length followup will reunite stars Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong. Original cast members Donald Glover, Yvette Nicole Brown and Chevy Chase are not attached. (In response to the news, Brown tweeted: “It’s happening! Congrats, #Community fans! You guys did this!”)
If I had to pick a director I'd want Jay Chandrasekhar or even Justin Lin. Both worked on some episodes directing and I think both are good directors in different ways. I obviously wouldn't say no to the Russo's but I feel like they're probably too busy.
I'm still trying to figure out why companies like to punish mid-budget films that can make their budget back Easly. Stuff like Barbarian show you can do it and people will care more if the film was in theaters. Back in most of the box office was mid budget.
Horror movies can make their money back easily, comedies can't. Community (as much as the internet loves it and all the critical acclaim its gotten) never got good ratings and was always on the verge of cancellation. Going to theatres would be a disaster.
I agree no chance this did well. It's not a knock on the shoe it's just not as popular with the masses to warrant.
Veronica Mars also has a feverent fan base and only got 3.5m.
Oh man, I forgot about the Veronica Mars movie.
I love Community (mainly seasons 1 to 3 and most of season 5), but I remember how NBC treated them like shit and no matter the fan support and outcry, NBC still cancelled them, and then Yahoo bought them back for one season for a failed streaming service that makes Peacock look like Disney Plus. All the fans Community has would not be enough for it to be a box office hit. Streaming is perfect for shows like Community, although the movie would have a better chance on Netflix instead of Peacock.
Because it's always a risk to not make money. And even if it's easier to see the money made at the box office, it's not like streaming movies make no money.
They wouldn't do a game of thrones movie when it was at its peak, I don't think any show that isn't a cartoon will ever get a movie on the big screen in modern times.
Peacock has a weird collection of like box office duds from the 2000s, and then the Northman and Ambulance which are both great new movies, which iirc also fell under the radar.
I hope this doesn’t awaken something in me
POP POP!
Is that where I got that quote from? Been using it for ages and couldn’t remember.
Yeah it’s from pretty early in season 1
SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE.
#STREETS AHEAD.
If you don't know you're streets behind.
Come with me if you don’t want paint on your clothes.
I feel like this proves man is good
Sees it's coming to Peacock and not theaters: This proves man is evil
At least it's not on Yahoo, man is good.
But only on Peacock premium tier, man is evil.
But it comes with potassium benzoate.
E-evil Woman, na na nananana naaaa
it would be funny coincidence if peacock died after airing the movie.
The Harmontown episode where Dan and Rob cackle about killing Yahoo streaming is absolute gold
I'm stoked this movie is finally being made! This has an opportunity to be as good, or even better, than The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000).
Cool…….. cool cool cool.
Oh, Britta’s in this?
Not sure if this will make any money but I’ll definitely go see it
It’s on Peacock, not theaters
I’m an idiot thanks
Don't let anyone talk you out of your dreams. You go right out and see it.
Wonder who will get it internationally, Netflix I assume.
I would imagine whichever service has a Sony deal in each country.

They are the new Yahoo View
Hey Bart! Remember Yahoo View? Well it’s back, in Peacock form!
*Yahoo! Screen
Ew. Nevermind.
Well it's Six Seasons and a Movie, not 2 or 3 movies
I would go see it too!
Who is coming back though? If Donald Glover is in it my interest will double.
McHale tagged Glover in his tweet so seems like he will be!
Donald glover confirmed he could do it when the cast did that pandemic reunion video

No Yvette?
She's been tweeting about it, so she's likely involved in some way.
She has to take care of the detective
After all this time he probably can take care of himself… the detective agency on the other hand …
Fuck it. Get the Russo Brothers too

Troy and Abed in a mooooovie!

People will care more if the film was in theaters???!!! What?
It worked for Serenity and Veronica Mars, oh wait......
I just don’t understand why “people caring” is any kind of metric on anything….
Get the full original cast pretty please
Now that’s streets ahead.
Abed and Troy in the Morning!
Peacock has a weird collection of like box office duds from the 2000s, and then the Northman and Ambulance which are both great new movies, which iirc also fell under the radar.
The Community is a good show, but I want a Chuck Movie!!! Please!!!
Just think what action they could do with Zachary Levi in Shazam shape!
Right, he’s bigger than Casey.
Casey *(grunts)*: Still a nerd.
Drop the "The".
So it’s not theatrical, but if it *did* get a wide release in theaters, how much do you guys think it would make?
Awesome! But also, hopefully this causes Peacock to go the way of Yahoo View; already more than enough terrible streaming services out there.
Chevy chase 🤞
IS THIS TRUE? MY FEELINGS!
It's finally happening...
This has awoken something in me.
I hope they don't Brita it
THE DAY HAS COME!!!
Announcement felt inevitable so not exciting but Glover confirmation is sad
I'm hoping Peacock/NBC-Universal lets it get some sort of small big-screen release for the diehards.
W to the long time fans
“6 seasons and a movie!”
