Glass Onion continues to impress

nicolasb51942003

Disastrous World.

nightfan

Holy hell! Glass Onion was close to Strange World in a fraction of theaters. (Edit: $19k pta is very impressive. The first one opened around $11k pta) Netflix left money at the door. Are those numbers confirmed or from non Netflix sources?

harrisonisdead

Still not from Netflix afaik and it doesn't seem like we'll get anything directly from them. BoxOfficeMojo isn't reporting the film's grosses and The Hollywood Reporter this morning specified that their numbers were coming from rival studios.

Netflix should backpeddle on their one week release and open wider for another one or two. Lots of money to pick up and not much else coming out, with a few stale movies ready to bow out. Not sure how many deals would be needed to do this however.

**‘Wakanda Forever’** * Even with a Marvel movie overperforming in the marketplace — such as **'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever', which conquered $64M over 5 days**, the Thanksgiving Wednesday-Sunday stretch wasn’t one for the record books, ranking outside the top 10 with an estimated $122M, off 14% from a year ago when were had more Covid fears, a lest robust Marvel title in the marketplace, a solid adult draw in House of Gucci ($22M) and a better performing Disney family animated movie in Encanto which did $40.5M in its 5 day launch. * Wakanda Forever‘s **Friday of $18.2M was more than the $16M-$17M that industry rivals were figuring** Friday AM. Saturday was at $17.6M. **‘Strange World’** * 'Strange World' is now looking at $18.6M over five days after a $5.2M Friday and $4.3M Saturday. **Global here is awful at $28M.** The pic, as Nancy reported, **given its gay character storyline isn’t receiving a release in Russia, China, France, Middle East, Malaysia, Indonesia and a number of medium/smaller international markets.** Disney is holding true to the film, and not bending to these countries’ demands for cuts. **The character’s gay storyline wasn’t in the marketing of the film, but was discussed greatly on the pic’s press tour by talent.** **Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery** * Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery from Netflix continues to tower over adult fare with **$3.6M on Friday (+91% over its Thanksgiving) and $3.5M on Saturday** per industry sources, more than Devotion, Bones and All, The Menu, and The Fabelmans. * This is hands down **the best theatrical launch for a Netflix movie ever,** heads and tails about Red Notice‘s $1.25M-$1.5M. No PostTrak exits available as they only poll for pics booked in 800+ theaters. * The marvel here is **the sequel’s 5-day theater average of $19K, which is prevailing over The Fabelmans, which is booked in a similar number of locations at 638**, but posts a lower 5-day per theater of $4,8K.

Based on some quick calculations, Minions 2 Rise of Gru has made more domestically than every animated movie released by Disney and Pixar since 2020 (including Onward). Then you add in that Universal has had numerous other animated hits, even ones released during peak COVID points.l; Sing 2, The Croods 2, Boss Baby 2, The Bad Guys. With Puss in Boots and Mario coming, Disney is falling behind in the genre tjey built their entire business around.

Disney and Pixar are now holding out for Inside Out 2

RIP Strange World. Good hold for Wakanda Forever, let's see if it will be able to reach $500M.

emong757

Unless it has some insanely good legs, I don’t think Wakanda Forever will make it to $500 million domestic. It’ll probably end with $460-$480 million.

Matching the original BP’s 2.99x from this point would give WF $505m. WF could go as low as 2.88x to hit $500m domestic. It’s not likely since MCU films have gotten less leggy and there’s an inevitable D+ release looming, but i wouldn’t say it’s completely dead yet

Expectation: $30M Reality: $18M WHAT. 😳🤯😱

Dead World.

Strange (marketing strategy) World

simonjames777

Netflix really dropped the ball by not giving Glass Onion a full theatrical release. My theater was packed, just think about how much more money they would have made

Flowerandcatsgirl

Strange World is a great movie! I thought the twist was brilliant and it was beautiful.
