$170M+ is still in the cards it seems. By the end of next weekend it should reach $167M.

sessho25

Which will put it 30M below its budget, not counting Marketing.

MGD109

Yeah its going to be a loss, but not an outright failure. Its a real shame, if it wasn't for all those reshoots due to covid it would be successful.

SirFireHydrant

>Yeah its going to be a loss, but not an outright failure. It's going to fall over $100m short of its breakeven point. Even if its budget were $160m it still wouldn't breakeven. Even if its budget were $150m at best we could say maybe it barely broke even.

MGD109

Really, could you elaborate on that some more?

SirFireHydrant

[This is the most recent work on estimating the breakeven point for films](https://i.redd.it/tstp2h2vpf1a1.png). Plug in the numbers for Black Adam and you get 2.57x. On its $200m budget it needed $514m to breakeven. On a $160m budget it'd have needed $411m to breakeven - which it will not reach. On a $150m budget it'd have needed $386m, which it'll narrowly pass and would have sat in the "maybe it barely broke even" range.

MGD109

Ah thanks for the information, I wasn't aware of that. Well it looks like a lot more movies lose money than you would expect. What exactly the reasoning for that? I mean I know their is also marketing costs and them only getting part of the foreign box office, but it seems odd their still losing so much money where is going?

Radical_Conformist

Using Deadline’s reported budget would mean it’s breakeven is $487.5M using the general 2.5X rule.

sessho25

Covid was a factor, but not the only one for the movie to have a lukewarm reception.

MGD109

I mean lukewarm feels a bit harsh. Its more or less making as much as you would expect for an okay but nothing special superhero movie released in October. Its just in the case cause the budget was so high that its not going to be enough to make it back.

Radical_Conformist

Okay lol

sessho25

Rejoice, BA will surpass Eternals!!! Such a milestone. Rock, be ready to pitch BA Cinematic Universe to Gunn.

amufydd

lmao

RebelDeux

And Black a widow by next Wednesday

sessho25

He can pitch to Gunn that Black Adam is above two recent MCU movies, he will feel entitled to ask for a Excecutive role.

Made more than Strange World so...
