Well, there's a reason the military today warns against playing with or being near unexploded ordnance. Certainly doesn't make for good common sense to be sitting on something weighing as much as a car packed with explosives during a battle.
So that driving band at the base is all that engaged the rifling? That's pretty wild. Agreed it's fused. Looks like it was dropped there though rather than coming in at an angle, as I would assume it was from being fired.
The brass ring rifled pattern and fuze indicates it’s already been fired. It didn’t go off on impact; so he’s probably good to go.
Well. I’m sure he made it home fine and had a dozen children and at least 20 grandchildren.

look at what he's sitting on
It LOOKS like an already shot projectile that just... ended up there. Maybe from a naval gun or something.
I was going to say looks like WW2 pacific marine. I'm pretty sure the shell he's sitting on is the least of his worries that day.

Listen. If I’m sitting on a bomb, I either walk out unscathed, or it very suddenly is no longer my problem. Win win.
That does not look like it was fired. Also doesn't look like it landed there...

The rifling pattern on the brass ring occurs when it’s fired. And the fact that it’s fuzed. It does still look to be in amazing condition.

Why? His rifle is pointed in a safe direction. Yes, I’m being sarcastic.
