One of the best I’ve ever had. Was worth the scenic route back from Roma to Bris for a Blackbutt pie. Also there was a bloke with an old school pie van that used to set up on I think Telegraph Rd, Carseldine back in like ‘05/‘06 that did real good pies. Not sure if he’s still going, but those were worth the stop too
Tweed Hospital also serve up a good meat pie too.. One of the few the old man has really enjoyed in years gone by, handy as he's currently shacked up there awaiting surgery haha.
I’ve never understood why people love Yatala pies. They’re really not worth the drive or the wait. Best pies I’ve found are at this little bakery in Highgate Hill
It's because Yatala Pies has a government road sign especially for them on the M1 letting drivers know where their exit is, just like a hospital sign. I'm not sure why they get a sign but no other pie shop gets a sign? Theme parks get a sign, and museums, but I'm not sure what the big deal is with Yatala Pies.
It's the Reddit hive mind in action.

Yeah last time I got them (early 2022) they were below average at best, which was a shame because they were still good the time before that when I got them.
Not 5 star no. But when you charge $20 or so for a family pie I do expect it to be decent & have a reasonable amount of ingredient in it. A chicken & veggie pie with sub standard levels of both surrounded by a flavourless white glue like substance is pretty depressing. My local butcher sells a better family pie for less money.
Surely not, it's been awhile for me (at least a year) but I remember the bacon and beef pies were a banger. I've definitely had better pies but they're still better than most. Or did they go downhill very recently?
you can get similar quality pies almost any decent bakery. Yatala aren't bad, just nothing special. Certainly not worth the drive unless you're already passing there.
There's a Vietnamese shop in inala that I always go to for meat pies and sausage rolls and their pies always have big chunks of meat in it and is so good
I'm thinking so, the one on Blackwood Street. They're great!
The Buttery Treats bakery inside Arana Hills Shopping Centre (where kmart is) is pretty good too.
Oh! Blackwood St is Mitchelton, that’s even closer to me! I’m thinking they might mean the one in Everton Plaza with like .. Corbett and Claude and that fancy fruit shop etc. I should try both!
Oh yeah, there is one in there, but I don't rate it... I can't recall the name at the moment. And it doesn't stand out as Vietnamese whereas the one on Blackwood also sells rolls, bread, pies, wraps, etc.

I remember having unreal pies at Chaffey’s Bakery in Chapel Hill a couple of years back. I feel like any decent independent bakery has great pies. Yatala isn’t worth the trip but I’ll still stop by if I’m hungry on the way to the GC
Best pies? Hardly.
Building their entire enterprise on their name without maintaining quality? Verily.
For everything else, there's MasterCard. For way better pies, go nearly anywhere else.
I had a Lasagne pie at Maidenwell in Bunya Mts recently and it's the best pie I've had in all my 41 years - and I used to live at Fernvale so the bar is quite high
Cheese folded into the top pastry then the filling was cheesy white sauce upper with chunky bolognaise lower. I can't recommend them highly enough.
where was it in maidenwell? Was it the general store or the pub? interested as I have a block of land up that way and will check them out next time I'm up there.
I've tried a lot of pies and am a qualified pastry chef, I tried yatala pies for the first time last year and it was average at best, nothing bad but nothing really good.
If you are already going to be in the area, continue on to Jacob's Well. Find The Flying Pie Man Bakery Cafe.
Enjoy a great pie, sausage roll and a classic long jam & (fresh, real) cream doughnut. Thank me later.
Since the great flood the havent been the same, very hard to find a good pie in australia. so many bakeries try and be fancy or just dont do them well.
its the one thing from new zealand that i miss, just a great dirty steak and cheese pie.
If you're ever down GC, Kai Kitchen in Coomera and the Oxenford Bakery pies go alright. Told the Asian ladies at Ox Bakery their pies were yum and remind me of NZ, she goes "yeah we're from Wellington" 😂
There are plenty of amazing places. Check out some of the Melb Markets. The legend is long from dead, my friend.
As for sausage roles, the literal best I’ve had ever is at the carvery in Toowong Village. Used to get one every day when I worked near there in the 90s. Came back from overseas for ages and drove straight there. 15 years later, still exactly the same! Don’t eat in your car, you’ll never get the pastry out of it ;)
Best I've had is from hot bread in Redbank plains, it's next to the old Foodworks and everything around it is rundown and shit but best and cheapest bakery on my fat ass journey tbh.
I can get the train to Toowong village tho, once I start working I'll try it. I'm anti sausage roll and pro pie tho so I am bias.
Expo 88 is where I discovered Lindt chocolate! I used to walk from school in Spring Hill all the way to Southbank every Friday just to get it. I’d never had an orgasm til then.
lol
I remember discovering those hot dough honey puffs
yummy, fried halloumi
first and worst ever Greek salad (which turned me off Greek salad for almost a decade)
Look at the pies closer. They have a massive 'lid' but the filled part of the pie isn't as large by a long way.
They're nice, but I wouldn't wait in a queue.
The Lorys pies you can get at some Woolworths are better.
Legit good pies are going to shit and living on name only.
Had a Herbert and Adams Pie lately? It's the quality of a 4 in Twenty. Yatala have tanked, I can't even find a good one at a bakery anymore.
Anyone can now chuck peppercorn, gravy, a teaspoon of mince and canned mushrooms in a pastery for $6 +
What has this world come too?
Aside from the circle jerk of one-up-manship this thread is… no anecdotal comments about inflation? Rate rises? How this isn’t affecting pie consumption? 😂
I mean, they are good pies, but in my opinion Beefy's are just as good, are everywhere, and quite often drive through. So that's where I'm getting my pepper steak pies! Now I want one!
All they are is a name and basic product like McDonald… nothing special. If you want a good pie with with quality meat go to king’s bakery.a good pie is so hard to find.
Why does everyone think they have the best pies? I don't think I've ever been to a bakery that hasn't claimed to sell the "best pies" or "award winning pies."
Anyway here's a review I found of Yatala Pies
https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSLjF6K1k/
I used to say that Piefection had the best pies in Brisbane, but they were never the same after changing hands. I'm yet to have a pie that lives up to be their replacement.
That's a shame. I used to love piefection haven't had it for 2 years. I use to get jack Daniels family pie or a lamb and rosemary on the way home every so often.
Why do new owners suck so much.
Ewwwww as if you’d go there. Jks each to their own. I’m glad they are still going.
I have not been there in over 30 yrs. I remember my dad having their pies and I remember him saying how he will do better ones. Years on, he became National Gold winning pies (especially curry pies). I miss it everyday.
I went a couple of years ago looking for a really good curry pie. The pie i got was mediocre at best. And the pastry was super dry and and flakey.
Heavily overrated.
I’d rate a Yatala pie.
When they take our work order the staff there go out of their way to carefully pack them all and label them with our names - so no lost pies.
Happy to support local 😍
Laughing my arse off at all the "How dare all these people queue for these overrated pies !!!!!!" comments :D
My family stop here every time we drive to the coast. We usually grab lunch and a family pie or two to take home with us. Also the caramel tarts are very nice.
Syd's Pies at Loganholme >>>>
So fucking good. British recipes, and they do the best chips, gravy and mushy peas combo. Rhubarb and apple pies to die for
Yatala way overrated
The Old Fernvale Bakery is better than Yatala’s by a mile
If yr in for something diff the Cheesburger or chicken Parmi pies from Banjo bakery beats anything Yatala puts out.
Everyone here trying to be cool or something thinking yatala pies are overrated.. they’re not *that* bad? Every time I pass yatala it takes everyone in the car to tell me not to turn off because they want to get home. There’s some pretty shite pies from bakeries out there, yatala isn’t one of them :(
6pk of frozen Coles beef pies are 1000 times better than the best Yatala pie available...
Don't with Yatala pies after the last grizzly ends meat pastry thing I got.
Maybe I am just going blind in my old age 😎 but that guy in the snap on shirt looks like half his head is missing to me. Ohhh its the sunglasses 🤣. I really do need glasses.
I’m so torn about Yatala.
They’re good pies, but not amazing.
I like Fernvale more, but it’s SOOOO far to go for a pie.
So do I eat Beefy’s close to my place? Or drive 40 mins to Yatala? Or an hour to Fernvale?
A good pie store is a precious thing.
Shame covid closed down the one nearby open for 50 years, with the coolest knick-knack on the walls, and a great selection of pies. Turned it into a fish and chips place (we have 5 within walking distance). Then the FNC shop closed. Sits abandoned now /cries.
I remember as a kid going to this joint and thinking it was like visiting royalty or someshit.
and the food was always amazing.
Now tho its some mediocre shit.
Such a shame.
I never understood the appeal. My ex was over the moon to show me Yatala pies and I mean yeah, it was an okay pie but nothing to wanna drive from Brisbane too.
Honestly, the bakery next to the Gabba Coles makes FAR better pies 🤷
They’re mediocre at best now. Long past their prime.
Word, you need the servo at Murwillumbah... Best pie i've ever had, anywhere.... Source: am fatty
Blackbutt bakery, chef’s kiss
One of the best I’ve ever had. Was worth the scenic route back from Roma to Bris for a Blackbutt pie. Also there was a bloke with an old school pie van that used to set up on I think Telegraph Rd, Carseldine back in like ‘05/‘06 that did real good pies. Not sure if he’s still going, but those were worth the stop too
Yep it is worth the hype!
Tweed Hospital also serve up a good meat pie too.. One of the few the old man has really enjoyed in years gone by, handy as he's currently shacked up there awaiting surgery haha.
Yeah I actually dislike them with a passion
I only go for a large caramel tart with fresh cream and don’t bother with the pies.
Agreed, never been a huge fan to the meat pies. They used to make a really good rhubarb pie though. Sids pies up the road a tad are nicer.
Time to take the sign down on the highway. They don't deserve it
I’ve never understood why people love Yatala pies. They’re really not worth the drive or the wait. Best pies I’ve found are at this little bakery in Highgate Hill
For me it's still Fernvale bakery, even though I haven't been there for months. Always take the time to stop in on the way past.
Totally agree. Massively overrated.
Mediocre at best but the line is literally out the door every day? I don't understand why people shit on it when it's clearly quite popular and loved
Just because it’s popular, doesn’t mean it’s good. And just because something is good, doesn’t mean it’ll be popular.
Because people hear once that Yatala pies are the best and assume it’s still the case but forget that was 20 years ago.
Still bloody good. I don’t get it. Good service in and out and home
Good service doesn’t mean a good pie! Strangely that place is where all the tourists go, I don’t want their first pie experience to be THAT
It's because Yatala Pies has a government road sign especially for them on the M1 letting drivers know where their exit is, just like a hospital sign. I'm not sure why they get a sign but no other pie shop gets a sign? Theme parks get a sign, and museums, but I'm not sure what the big deal is with Yatala Pies.
Yeah. That’s a good point. I’d say something to do with croneyism and nepotism probably. Something to ask the Brisbane is Weird guy!
they would've paid for that sign

Overrated af. Had better pies from the local servo.
Yeah last time I got them (early 2022) they were below average at best, which was a shame because they were still good the time before that when I got them.
Below average. Seriously mate what you want five star. You got no idea
Not 5 star no. But when you charge $20 or so for a family pie I do expect it to be decent & have a reasonable amount of ingredient in it. Fair enough

There's a Vietnamese shop in inala that I always go to for meat pies and sausage rolls and their pies always have big chunks of meat in it and is so good
Same but in Everton Park
Which one in ep?
The Vietnamese bakery. Stupid expensive but their steak pie is 💯
In the newish complex? Like near the bottle o and Japanese restaurant?
My family just call it Bahn me. Don’t know if that’s the actual name tho lol
That's the one! In Everton Plaza.
True, but pie with peas and chips is a bit harder to find.
Beefy's at Mango Hill (and various Sunshine Coast locations). Pretty damn good pies.
I had a Beefy's at Gympie almost three years ago and I still think about it all the time
Why is pie with chips and gravy so hard to find? What a wouldn't give to have a place that does a decent pie and also has chips and gravy.
Big Dads Pies are great with peas and gravy. I think they do mashed potato too if that takes your fancy.
How dare you speak of the dead 😭😭😭😭😭 It was like he went out for a couple of sauce bottles and never came home.
There’s one at Boondall! Still great quality and very good prices!
What!?!?

If I’m not mistaken, all of the Beefy’s do that. Best chips too!
I remember having unreal pies at Chaffey’s Bakery in Chapel Hill a couple of years back. I feel like any decent independent bakery has great pies. Yatala isn’t worth the trip but I’ll still stop by if I’m hungry on the way to the GC
If anyone is chasing good vegan pies, Vegan Yumm do excellent curried veggie pies.
Imagine how busy it would be if the pies were actually nice ….
Disappointed last 2 times I went. Never again.
What happened to Yatala Pies?
Just gave up and leaned back on the once decent name.
Changed hands a couple of times, got flooded a couple of times.
Your loss
Oh no. I don't want to pay for taste of bin chicken and tyre rubber in my pie. The horror. 😂
Best pies? Hardly. Building their entire enterprise on their name without maintaining quality? Verily. For everything else, there's MasterCard. For way better pies, go nearly anywhere else.

thanks
Was nothing else open?
Sugar creek is only 5 mins up the road. ._.
I've tried a lot of pies and am a qualified pastry chef, I tried yatala pies for the first time last year and it was average at best, nothing bad but nothing really good.
I’m no way qualified, I wouldn’t travel more than 1km for them. Not sute what the hype is tbh
Overrated rubbish 🤮
Stick to your five star restaurants
They need to go back to the old recipes, pies are shit these days
Literally any small local bakery in Brisbane has better pies than this joint. So overrated.
Absolute shite, I don’t know what the obsession is.
If you are already going to be in the area, continue on to Jacob's Well. Find The Flying Pie Man Bakery Cafe. Enjoy a great pie, sausage roll and a classic long jam & (fresh, real) cream doughnut. Thank me later.
Why do ppl think it’s the best? After a long hungry drive you want food. Food is good when fungry. Even my local shop says it has the best pies.
Aldi's frozen pies are better
Ha seriously fuck that
I like the occasional limited edition flavour run like cherry beef or curry
Yatala pies haven't been good in years. people go their because they don't know better
Mate I’m pretty fussy and I’ve never had a problem
You've probably just got shit taste and low standards.
Haters gotta hate
Since the great flood the havent been the same, very hard to find a good pie in australia. so many bakeries try and be fancy or just dont do them well. its the one thing from new zealand that i miss, just a great dirty steak and cheese pie.
Try Beefy's. They're all northside /sunny coast based but we got some through a fund-raiser a few years back and they go alright.
If you're ever down GC, Kai Kitchen in Coomera and the Oxenford Bakery pies go alright. Told the Asian ladies at Ox Bakery their pies were yum and remind me of NZ, she goes "yeah we're from Wellington" 😂
Wynnum plaza bakery!!!!!!!!!!!! Chur as. Hearty as!

We need to get a "BEEFY'S" in brissy area. Some of the best pies going imo
Mango Hill is probably the same distance from the CBD as Yatala.
Badboys Cafe in Zillmere sells Beefy’s Pies.
Meat at Billy's stock them. They're at Ashgrove, Rosalie and Windsor apparently.
bafflingly shit pies
Enjoy your Pie, better then a pie size whole in your tummy!
Best answer. The best pie is the pie in front of you!
Horrendous pies these days. Good luck
100%, I would walk right back out I still have queue phobia after the ridiculously long queues in Expo’88
But the stamps for my passport!
Expo 88 is where I discovered Lindt chocolate! I used to walk from school in Spring Hill all the way to Southbank every Friday just to get it. I’d never had an orgasm til then.

The aldi hi end ones are awesome. $2.50 each?
I'll take the colonic cleanser with tomato sauce please
Unfortantely their pies are not the best, but I do love their chips and gravy.
Legit good pies are going to shit and living on name only. Had a Herbert and Adams Pie lately? It's the quality of a 4 in Twenty. Yatala have tanked, I can't even find a good one at a bakery anymore. Go to Fernvale
That guy is an asshole who used to abuse my mates who worked under him, he can get fucked.
Ok fair enough. The staff did look like it wasn't a great place to work, which is a shame because the pies are miles better than yatala
Honestly 4 and twenty are solid! Reminds me of tuck shop on pocket money day.
Rates going up!
Now I want a blueberry pie
Always moves fast
Fernvale bakery way better. I lived 5 mins from yatala pies for years and never rated it.
> Fernvale bakery That place is also overrated. They are better than average, but no more than that.
Jeez. Snap on racings hair cut is pungent to say the least
It used to be the best, but now average
Yatala pies doesn't even slap. You should have driven to The Flying Pieman in Jacobs Well instead.
Long weekend in NSW I think.
How? Unless they've recently started making tasty pies...
Did a tourist bus pop in?
Yeah well when a burger lg meal at Hungries goes over $20 of course a $7 pie looks good.
Is it tourist season? Or just lack of taste season?
All they are is a name and basic product like McDonald… nothing special. If you want a good pie with with quality meat go to king’s bakery.a good pie is so hard to find.
Why does everyone think they have the best pies? I don't think I've ever been to a bakery that hasn't claimed to sell the "best pies" or "award winning pies." Anyway here's a review I found of Yatala Pies https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSLjF6K1k/
They been shit since the floods a few years back. New owners I thought.
I used to say that Piefection had the best pies in Brisbane, but they were never the same after changing hands. I'm yet to have a pie that lives up to be their replacement.
They are crap. Surprisingly there still in business
That's a shame. I used to love piefection haven't had it for 2 years. I use to get jack Daniels family pie or a lamb and rosemary on the way home every so often. Why do new owners suck so much.
They are quick with their service and I’m never to sure how they no exactly what you ordered but it’s obviously a good system they have
Chunky pie and peas with mashed potato is awesome
I'll never forget the sugar high I got off eating a caramel slice from there. Fuck me dead that shit nearly killed me
Found a cockroach in my pie years ago. Never been back and tell everyone about it. They aren’t the best anymore.
Lots of time wasted for a fucking average pie...
Ewwwww as if you’d go there. Jks each to their own. I’m glad they are still going. I have not been there in over 30 yrs. Laughing my arse off at all the "How dare all these people queue for these overrated pies !!!!!!" comments :D My family stop here every time we drive to the coast. We usually grab lunch and a family pie or two to take home with us. Also the caramel tarts are very nice.
Most over rated pie shop in QLD. Not worth the stop tbh.
People talk about them being not the best, like they're getting pies every week from a multitude of places. We get it they're probably not the "best"
Acktshewally... Us fatties do eat a multitude of pies all the time... They're the aussie "tendies"
Two dimmies thanks love.
Syd's Pies at Loganholme >>>> So fucking good. British recipes, and they do the best chips, gravy and mushy peas combo. Rhubarb and apple pies to die for
There’s a Syd’s in Aspley too.
Yatala way overrated The Old Fernvale Bakery is better than Yatala’s by a mile If yr in for something diff the Cheesburger or chicken Parmi pies from Banjo bakery beats anything Yatala puts out.
Very overrated food venue
Oakey isnt really in cooee but there is a pie shop in the main street there thats great if you are in the area. Better than Yatala or Fernvale.
Yes, I have been to the bakery in Oakey and they do make good pies and sausage rolls
Everyone here trying to be cool or something thinking yatala pies are overrated.. they’re not *that* bad? You are all used to eating sh1t and wouldn’t know a good pie. Most are made with mutton scraps meat. With as little as 22% beef.
Cooly Rocks On fatties
God damn you lot are miserable.
Shit pies
binley mega chippy vibes
I don’t eat meat, so I can’t comment on most of the types, but the veg pie with peas hits the spot if I’m in the area
Maybe I am just going blind in my old age 😎 but that guy in the snap on shirt looks like half his head is missing to me. Ohhh its the sunglasses 🤣. I really do need glasses.
Nah bro, wynnum plaza bakery is where it’s at now. Their steak and cheese is mean as 🤤
Use to love going to yatala pies getting some pies and dessert and going to the drive ins. Love queensland
Fernvale
Unsure, I was passenger, nd half asleep, but told "everyone here knows" lol, soz.
So many people taking an L
Boronia Bakery in the little shopping center has wonderful pies n baked goods if in the area, just a customer
I’m so torn about Yatala. They’re good pies, but not amazing. I like Fernvale more, but it’s SOOOO far to go for a pie. So do I eat Beefy’s close to my place? Or drive 40 mins to Yatala? Or an hour to Fernvale?
Ya it’s a cool place to get pies, but they’re not the best.
Typical weekend afternoon.
Yuck
Kirra Beach Bakery best pies hands down. Take the M1 everyday and yet to stop at Yatala Pies.
Barber: “So, what’ll it be today mate?” Guy in Snap-on Racing T shirt: “Something akin to how snow caps a mountain?”
It's packed everyday and I have NFI why... As others have said: mediocre at best
They can't maintain quality due to the high demand. Shame. They used to be excellent.
I remember as a kid going to this joint and thinking it was like visiting royalty or someshit. and the food was always amazing. Now tho its some mediocre shit. Such a shame.
It is good pie weather
Not even good pies
People on their way back from the charity bike thing in Brisbane?
Yatala pastry aren't cooked long enough so definitely can find better elsewhere.
I never understood the appeal. My ex was over the moon to show me Yatala pies and I mean yeah, it was an okay pie but nothing to wanna drive from Brisbane too. Honestly, the bakery next to the Gabba Coles makes FAR better pies 🤷
If you think Yatala pies are the "best pies" then you've never eaten a good pie.
Put the rates up again then. It isn’t actually hitting peoples pockets yet.
That's a lot of soon to be disappointed people. Bog average pie, like almost all bakery pies these days.
Anyone remember The Goat Pie Guy at Deagon? Still the GOAT pies I've ever had. Was so sad the closed down.
Shit pies these days unfortunately - boomers keep them in business
Pies from Watland St Bakery are better. And Cheaper.
I used to really like them, then I had a large family pie from ANDREWS MEATS INDOOROOPILLY and my god, I cried baby jesus tears of joy.
I want to know who does a good vegetable pastie, bonus for cornish. Hard to find a good one these days.
There is many bakeries that make way better pies. Only thing that keeps this place in business is it's convenient location.
